the fulani worked in collaboration with indigenes from the areas they conquered.

@^^ Did you not read the clear question posed by Malawian? My mentioning the Fulani is clear enough in my post. They are not related to Bornu state nor the proud and self assertive Kanuri who I 'suspect' are the source of the strength of the BH and Ansaru reputed to originate from Bornu state. Yes, we know that there are some collaborators/hospitable indigenes in the run up to the fulani conquest of the Hausa.

you're confusing europeans with africans.

are ethiopians crusaders? Are they not christians?

@^^ Where is the confusion cheesy? Are the later day European 'middle ages' crusaders not against the muslims(Middle East) and later Africa exempt? Yeah, we all know the History of Ethiopia and Christianity but does that negate my opinion about the clear "Prejudice" against the Hausa/Muslims by naijaking1. Did you not read/see his post?

How come Fulani, control all your states? are Hausa not interested in politic? Do you guys fear fulani?

Also why is that the fulani ,despite controlling and influencing others ethnicities politically and culturally esp up north don't impose their language? (This is my observation, maybe I'm wrong)

Also what is the widely spoken language in the North? Fufulde or Hausa?

Bro, African conquerors/colonisers were benevolent and were not interested in imposing their language on 'others' otherwise the Southwest that was part of Benin empire would be speaking Bini/Edo language hence "Benevolence" is in order/culture.
Hausa is the predominant language spoken in the North other than in Bornu state.

where is boko haram and ansaru in all of these? a honest question please.

Boko Haram and Ansaru are probably Kanuri populated and from Bornu state/Chad/Cameroon. They are not Hausa. Hausas are inherently Peaceful, farmers and tradesmen/women hence they were easily defeated by the Fulani.

Of all the Hausa people I have met around the World, Nigerian Hausas seem to have the worst mind set when it comes to religion, living peacefully, and even taking pride in being Africans first and muslims/christians second.
What happened?

What exactly do you mean by "the worst mind set"? Islam does not really recognise boundaries/modern nation statehood. You are muslim first before being a so called Nigerian or African as you put it. How can you begrudge anybody for believing/ having a faith which you clearly do not understand. If I may ask, Is Christianity your original faith/ belief system? Are so called Christians not the marauding Crusaders of ancient times? Are they not our conquerors as Slavers and Colonisers that you fervently embrace their faith and bad habit of Prejudice et al. Bro, go easy with your prejudice.

Hi Bro wink The Touareg are not known for hard work nor intensively cultivated craftsmanship. They are nomads by tradition/culture and rarely involved in any other trade besides trading and marauding robbers in the Sahara grin. The settled ones in Mali are no different from their ancient habits/ways. It is partly the source of the national/ethnic problem of Mali, Algeria, Niger and Mauritania.

@OP Sincerely, it is an interesting read but not exactly profound. Any African from the continent who has the good fortune of travelling around the Americas(north/South) and encountering our Cousins in Diaspora, must have asked/dialogued with them as to come away with similar world views as Pius has about the 'African tragedy' which he elegantly couched metaphorically as 'Love affair' and 'Dowry' between the warped arrogant powerful and the weak.
Many Africans have alluded to similar observations before even on NL and I guess Chimamanda in her latest book gives her version of similar observations in the USA/Diaspora in the dangers of single stories and confusions about self affirmation/definition/identity in encounters with the 'West' hence I may say his lecture is not profound/original but for the title.
As for the name Nkunzimana it is a name peculiar to Burundi & Rwanda very similar; East DRC and some parts of Uganda. as they share almost similar ethic groups and 'problems' - Tutsi. wink
I appreciate the write up as away of spreading informed diverse education amongst our very uninformed citizenry as History as we know it is Dead in the Nigerian/African Academia(Schools).

I disagree. Poor judgement and lack of vision is the root of our endemic poor leadership, not poor education. Nigerian leaders received far better education than the leaders in say, Tanzania or Zambia or Niger. Thos three countries perform far better for their people and their countries.

@^^ Gbam+100. Such belief/penchant for so called "certificated educated" leadership is the bane of our quasi "elites" and the rest of NIgerians. Nigerians are addicted to belief in Certificates in anything. A good leader is as good as his advisers/cabinet- like you mentioned already, Vision is the crux of the matter and of course the lack of emotional attachment for the so called Country hence we are not a Nation yet. Nigerian leadership/elites are inherently unpatriotic by their active or 'unintentional' actions besides their hollow rhetorics of loving the country and ever ready to die for it. They have good reason to love and ready to die for her. Nigeria is the proverbial golden goose that lays the golden egg(loot)

In progressive societies privatisation is minimised and there is more emphasis on govt improving the services that it already provides this is what happened in Venezuela under Chavez and the results were positive. Under Chavez administration literacy increased and poverty decreased within a very short space of time, this what we need in nigeria someone like Chavez who will work in the interests of the masses of nigeria to rebuild the nation and lift millions of people out of ignorance and poverty.

@^^ +1000-also did you intentionally omit the previous Brazilian President Lula who changed the lives of the massive poor Brazilians especially the poor African Brazilians. Bros perhaps you are a little hopeful that Nigerians are politically aware but you'll be shocked to know that the so called "certificated/educated" are actually the source of the Nigerian problem undecided. I am not optimistic at all. Nigerians are indeed everywhere in the world but lack the ability to be discerning to see/learn or imbibe simple things around even political values from good leaders like you mentioned, Nigeria have failed and shamed the African race irretrievably. The country presently is not fit for purpose under the present/past leadership either. Even in so called developed West they guard/protect their strategic assets/industries. Can you explain what you mean by saying that young igbos who didn't witness the war, don't understand the concept of biafra. I am all ears.

We(young igbos) didn't witness the war,but we can see the effect of that war all around us. We still have pictures of young uncles who died during the war and pics of elder siblings who died of malnutrition, all hung on our walls, and we have parents who still suffer from post traumatic effects of that war. We still have elderly relatives with one deformity or the other, incurred during the war.

We have other nigerians who keep reminding us of our defeat and still call us biafrans.

So,i am all ears.

@^^ Bros, it's not every topic that one must reply to in detail if you understand my drift. Yes there are a lot of Ndi-Igbo young men/women who may have/not witnessed the war but sincerely their mentality/abject ignorance based on very rudimentary knowledge of self(culture)/society make it absolutely difficult for some to assimilate some good historical/essence of the war. Many come to NL half baked/uninformed to say things that are almost infantile and self deprecating without thinking before opening/typing. Those are the characters I am referring to. These days perhaps with the good reign of Onlytruth some of them have been cautioned/reined in to cut down on some of their ill informed loquaciousness. Yes every Igbo person have lost a lot during the valiant War but the essence/lessons about it seem to be lost to a lot of the youth let alone the rest of sleepy Nigerians who have little or no grasp of national history hence they'll remind 'you' of the so called "defeat"/war. Sincerely, that's not enough excuse to be haughty, ill informed and engage in banal to and fro arguments with historical 'illiterates' lacking in empathy but full of Hate, Jealousies, Envy and Covetousness. In the light of such awareness is it not wise for the youth to tread carefully but very alert/aware of the dangers around, instead of bumbling around foolishly?.
Name calling is natural. It is what ignorant people do because they have nothing else to say based on their ignorance and inherent inadequacies. It's akin to a lazy white working class person calling a well suited city black gentleman/lady names grin. It is no big deal at all. That's what lazy ignorant kids do on the play ground especially on NL. Bro please relax it's not that serious. Keep your thoughts to yourself wink. It is not everything that one should be discussing on a public forum. Every valiant Biafran or not has been scarred by the experience of war directly/indirectly so it is nobody's fault. That's the natural effect of war but the lessons/essence of it is what should be most important to the rest of the survivors . The rest of Nigeria sincerely is unimportant in the self preservation of Ndi-Igbo.

We seem to have many Biafra diehards here. Why are they so bitter

@^^Bros, Most of the so called 'diehards' on NL are not really 'bitter' as you put it but if any Igbo person is "bitter" about Nigeria, it is not misplaced either. For example if you have been a "victim" of war that claims to "keep Nigeria ONE is a task that must be done" or the banal "No victor no vanquished" slogans, without commensurate positive "Actions", it'll generally generate deep resentments etc. I'll rather that so called Nigerians demonstrate some sense of empathy by everyone concerned about the future of Nigeria in the true sense of the word, not wishy washy burying our heads in the sand/wishing that we do not confront our demons/talk about our collective past/recent history. What's the point wanting to be Nigerian from every part of the country if we cannot have a civil conversation no matter how unsavoury it is?. Also, perhaps if you witnessed about nine or more male members of your direct family being murdered in your presence(genocide) by so called fellow country men in cold blood you'll definitely out of humane empathy appreciate the source of the "anger" and "desperation" to disassociate with anything Nigerian.I'll say that Ndi-Igbo are remarkably resilient and forgiving but then that is an African attribute not exactly unique either. Empathy and a little 'Contrition' on the part of the "actors" who actively participated in the bad/wicked decisions/actions in our collective history is all that's needed not exactly reparations. Many of them are still alive and some with oil blocks as old soldiers cheesy. Please don't believe the hype of internet "Biafrans" grin. Most of them did not witness let alone understand the concept of Biafra e.g. the famous definitive "Ahiara Declaration".

It is obvious he comes from the school of thought- that thinks that Nigerians should be Grateful whenever he renders a service/does his job in whatever capacity as an employee of voters/Nigerians. Ali would acknowledge this if he is not an example of the malevolent throwback Dinosaurs we need to get rid of. The Yorubas would have to be aberrant to be grateful to a man like OBJ. In fact, if most Nigerians were not supinely docile , apathetic and politically unsophisticated, then the likes of Ali et al would not be able to be uttering this revisionist garbage. African players do not go far because of indiscipline and a lack of professionalism, they have the talent, but that is not enough in this business.

You are definitely correct Bro wink. Only in Nigeria you have ex-players and current so called professional players commenting openly about the team and manager of a club or national team negatively or otherwise. They publicly criticise and even suggest players for the national team etc. They'll never dare open their mouth in Europe let alone criticise/suggest anything to their club manager/coach. The Wayan Movies shoot their movies using who is available whether white or Black according to the script, A lot of Black Producers and directors are springing up in America so black people have no excuses, but it

You have shown by your comments that you are blind by your prejudice towards White People!

@^^ Bros easy on your "PC"/pseudo-values grin wink. Movies are made especially in our domain because of the laws of Demand & Supply(Eye balls) or market(Returns on Investment) so your mentioning the paucity of Hausa Actors etc is not plausible if you really understand the industry you are discussing.
