HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 9:20am On Jun 29, 2012
Stop tripping and give us your medical opinion.WE NEED DOCTOR'S OPINION NOT RIFF-RAFFS'.
Bluetooth, one thing you should know is that most Nigerian doctors don't even research well into HBSS type of patients. please if you do not believe that SS patients suffer from malaria, do yourself a favour and visit the sickle cell centre in lagos, opposite LUTH.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 8:52am On Jun 29, 2012
queensmith: LOL- you are right I don't know where he's getting his information from. SS carriers cannot get malaria. hence the selective advantage.
i have SCD, and i have researched well into the facts, fiction and myths of SCD. Your average of mid 20s is a myth jus like abiku phenomenon. You can ask any doctor, malaria is in the top 5% killer sickness of SCD patients.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 8:10am On Jun 29, 2012
queensmith: Is that not one of the things they use to 'create awareness' of the disease back home? They say all sorts of things, they cant be tall, they all have yellow eyes, they can't kids. When I have a 5'10 model friend with SS who recently gave birth to a healthy boy.

and please if you are going to correct me replace it with the correct life expectancy. The one in my mind might not be true but the belief will be propagated as long as Nigeria fails to provide concrete medical facts.
Queensmith, there is no correct life expectancy age for an SCD patient. If a sickler understands his or her system and adhere stricktly to those medications that help him or her keep fit, then the person can well hope to live fulfilled life well into his or her 80s. Recently the sun newspaper carried a story of a woman with SCD who is into her 80s and she is still kicking and alive.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 7:53am On Jun 29, 2012
queensmith: God bless you, i was literally going to start crying if someone didn't mention this. Given the history of infant mortality, and the abiku phenomenon that someone mentioned. It only makes sense most will carry the traits. It's a selective advantage.

They should be working more on the malaria problem we have!

They need to start investing in better treatment of these patients, the prevalence isn't going away any time soon. They should be catering for them there is no need for them to be dying in their early 20s. The world has advanced beyond that point. If a country like England can provide better treatment for a disease that isn't even endogenous to it's own type of people then I don't see why Nigeria cannot.
And who says that SCD patients are prone to die in their twenties... please remove that concept from your mind. I agree that with better medical care SCD patients will live a more fulfilled life.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 7:40am On Jun 29, 2012
Nwa Teacher: SCD is mainly an African disease and Nigeria been the most populated country shows that the statistics is correct. My research work as a pharm. Chemist (Chartered) in antisickling drugs has shown that this disease can be cured with plants. I have 2 plants that can wipe SCD in African race. Oyibo man is not interested becos isn't dia sickness. I have presented a paper both on the local and international journals on this plants as antisickling drugs.
Please correct that notion. SCD is not an African disease, there are some caucausians with SCD. Yes, SCD is mostly found in people of African dissent. And again there is no known cure for SCD except bone marrow transplant. Your antisickling drugs can help correct some of the sickled blood cells, but it can not completely wipe it out.

chemberlin: We are cos of our stupidity and ignorance...that this alone can make us change our mind from getting married to some indiviuals base on who we are
i dnt really get u.. are u saying that SC should not get married b.cos of their genetic make up.
It is true that they have limited options when it comes to marriage, but if they should stick with people whose genotype are AA, there will be no fear of having SS children.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 6:48am On Jun 29, 2012
We are number 1 in sickle cell and maybe number 1 in malaria too. . . .I thought they said people with sickle cell are immune to malaria ? huh Please, doctors help me out !
I am no doctor, but a carrier of SCD should as much as possible avoid malaria. Infact malaria is one the most fatal sicknesses to a sickler. the SCD patient should endeavour to take malaria preventive drugs at least once a month.
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by Abali1(m): 6:43am On Jun 29, 2012
miky: hmm except for a bone marrow transplant with some serious high tech stem cell additives, there is no cure in sight!!! even developed countries are hapless,, and i doubt if just a single drug would be the answer...[b] just like cancer you would go through various remedies spanning even months...

hope you are not comparing cancer with sickle cell disease. unlike cancer, SCD is not a terminal illness. infact a carrier of SCD can have fun and fulfilling life if s/he knows how to manage the disease.
Medical science have advanced to such a stage that one can actually manage the disease with some degree of success.

so much HATE in Nigeria. Like I said on another thread, let us not forget the RWANDAN GENOCIDAL WAR. it started like this.
Nigeria of 2012 is far different from Nigeria of 1966. The blood that will be shed if thngs get out f hand will be better imagined. And it will have nothing to do with population of one religion/tribe against another.

Ex-Inferis, please you need to do a self re-evaluation. your post exlaining the ideology of Islam is way too deep for someone who condenscends too low to insult Jesus(Isa).
PoliticsRe: I Forsee A Military Coup Soon by Abali1(m): 7:14am On Jun 19, 2012
Though I do not support a military take over, but it is sad that our politicians never learn from past experiences. Why do we always adopt the strategy of cutting the nose to spite the face. If we should look back to what happened in Rwanda in the not too distant past, we will see a pattern forming in the present day Nigeria.
I dare to say that if President Jonathan does not put down this BH insurgents, he is setting up his govt. for a military take over or worst he is putting himself up for assassination.
But I still believe that the worst civilian govt is better than the best military govt(in theory).
PoliticsRe: Please Where Is Dr Umana Now-nigerian First 419er? by Abali1(m): 8:27am On Jun 15, 2012
I believe the Umana guy was a creation of IBB. or was he picked up and then eliminated by the regime of IBB, of course the money recovered from him going into private pockets. So with govt coming in into the picture, it will be easier to close the case and nothing will be heard of it again.
EducationRe: Rochas To Build First Free University In Nigeria by Abali1(m): 7:05pm On Jun 12, 2012
I have never been one to shout praises to our politicians. But Rochas Okorocha is really winning me over to his side.
For those doubting if it is possible, have you asked how it was possible for this guys foundation to run FREE SEC SCH IN SIX GEO POLITICAL ZONES of the country EVEN BEFORE HE BECAME A GOVERNOR.
With his present position as an executive Governor, he can easily draw international grants to help the funding of this project.

PLZ NEVER SAY NEVER.

What if the hubby is just refusing her the use of the car because he knows that she has not perfected her driving, and that could be a risk to her and the child's life.
Op, why not consider taking the cab option, while you pressure him to go with U on weekend driving, in a less populated area, till U perfect ur drivng.

FamilyRe: Cheating On Her Husband Saved Her Life by Abali1(m): 10:14pm On Jun 09, 2012
If my senses serve me right, nobody on the other thread said it was okay for the husband to cheat. All what I gathered was that DEATH is not the best possible punisment wish on a cheating spouse.
If I were to find myself in the scenerio you just descrbed, death will be the least of the things I will wish for a woman who bore my kids. Even if I am going to divorce her, it is still better I divorce her alive.
PoliticsRe: Farouk Lawan (subsidy Probe Committee Chairman) In $600,000 Bribery Scandal by Abali1(m): 9:57pm On Jun 09, 2012
Like play like play they will sweep everything under the carpet. Of course na PDP family affair.
There is no way Otedola (the giver of the bribe) is going to jail in GEJ's adminstration. Farouk Lawan is going to be pressured along with other house members, and before you know it subsidy probe report and this very bribe scandal will die a very natural death.
Untill we are really tired of coruption Nigeria will keep going on in circus.
FamilyRe: Cheating On His Wife Saved His Life. by Abali1(m): 10:46am On Jun 09, 2012
jennykadry: Op is suffering from a lost and never found womanhood problems A.k.a low or lost self esteem. Sir, some of us were not brought up to accommodate a serial cheat and even though some of you's laughed at browns post, things like that are what I am capable of doing. You cheat on me and expose me to STD and expect me to rejoice because your dry Nyash did not board a flight?

Marriage is not a do or die affair for me like that useless housewife of a OP who does nothin but spend her life on nairaland because of her joblessness due to illiteracy. You hear me sir?
Jenny, I ddnt know it was something person between you and the Op. I don't wish to get into an e-fight with anyone.
But, I hope you not seriously saying that you would prefer DEATH to be the best possible kind of punishment for a cheating husband, whom you had kids by? 'cos I wouldn't wish death to even my worst enemy.
FamilyRe: Cheating On His Wife Saved His Life. by Abali1(m): 8:01am On Jun 09, 2012
jennykadry: ^^how sure am I? When I find out until then. . . cool
God forbid it, but you will agree with me that you still want him alive, even if you guys are seperated or divorced. At least, he is better off alive, for the sake of the children even though you will not wish to share your bed with him again.

No woman wants to share her man with another, also many women will not want to be widowed at a young age. Thus, what the op said has little to do with low self esteem.
FamilyRe: Cheating On His Wife Saved His Life. by Abali1(m): 7:01am On Jun 09, 2012
jennykadry: Lol.

@topic
Awon low self esteem oshi. undecided a serial cheat is as good as dead to me anyways so what is your stupid point? Rejoice that my husband lied to myself and kids that he was traveling for some meeting unbeknownst to us he was sleeping with another woman in the same city. Abeg don't include me in your low self esteem crew. I danced with my father as a princess when I was a girl and even as an adult I still attend parties with him and dance with him on dance floors where I am treated like a princess, that alone boosted my Self esteem whilst growing up. I no join una mourning losers.
and how sure are you that the man you married is not already cheating on you. pls NEVER SAY NEVER. The op, is just saying that she is better off choosing the lesser of two evil. In other words even if she is going to quarrel with the man later, it is better he is alive than dead. At least you will agree with that most women will prefer to have the father of their "princess" alive even if divorced than dead.

PoliticsRe: President Jonathan's Speech At Enugu Is Treasonable by Abali1(m): 1:27pm On May 20, 2012
Blackteeth: President Obama was once said that there is a problem with America's politics. This statement is of the same class with what GEJ said. So why didnt Americans cut his head? Cos its a fact! Simple.
Saying that something is wrong with Americas politics is not the same as saying that something is wrong with the formation/creation of the American State.
GEJ, is not an ordinary citezen of Nigeria to make anyhow stateent without weiighing the consequences, if Truth be told He is Supposed to be the Last Man Standing when issues that threatens the Unity of the country comes up.
For Gods sake he is the PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, and not the President of South-South.
He is their son but our PRESIDENT.

@CC, If the ladies most Naija guys meet in Nigeria are like what you describe, I doubt if so many guys will be complaining about girls being leeches. Most gals out there only contribute se.x to a relationship.
I have followed your comments on NL faithfully, and I can say your type is what a reasonable guy will be looking for. But it's hard these days to get a gal that contributes more than se.x to a r.ship these days.
