As for North, any candidate APC comes up with has their backing and they will throw their weight behind the person. Northerners know what they're doing - what makes them support you (as a southerner) is not a matter of your money or political power, in fact they prefer if you lack in both areas. If they want you, they give you votes from Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Sokoto as a heavy booster.

So based on your analysis alone it is a matter of who can pull more votes from their respective stronghold. Ameachi from the SS/SE and Tinubu/Osibanjo from SW. If you were a betting man and a man of data analysis, you would realize which region is more likely to pull more votes for APC in the general elections. Here's a hint, it ain't SS/SE(Obi don spoil that market)

Why would he lose Lagos? Lagos has never depended on federal might. If you look at the last presidential election Lagos was split about 60-40, so it is very easy for Lagos to vote for Atiku while still supporting APC at the governorship or state level.

You underestimate the North. There is strong hatred for Atiku and the North does not forgive easily. All you have to take a look at was the election of 2011 and 2015 to see that the North does not unite on everything. They'll gladly vote for a GEJ if the right political and religious leaders told them to. The bigger problem is the South, if the South unites and puts its weight behind a Southern candidate, the North will cannibalize itself but getting Yorubas and Easterners to agree on anything is harder than finding a needle in the Atlantic ocean.
