I am a pharmacy student who is struggling to break into the world of programming...I have downloaded and studied lot of videos on YouTube and i do make use of the free lessons offered by freecodecamp. But all the hours i've put into learning how to code seems to been in vain, as I can't apply most things I've learnt to do something remarkable in real life. I'm sincerely appealing to a programmer who will like to take me under his wings as an apprentice.

My Alma-Mater, you will be given what you rightfully worked extremely hard for, unlike awon public school chest beaters that will go through;

- Lecturers extorting students by selling handouts compulsorily without teaching anything, then show up a week to exams to mark attendance and mark names of those who paid, smh

- Lecturers saying "A is for God, B is for V.C, C is for them, fight for the rest", and these same students think it is a normal part of life

- Sex for grades, reason why we have so many educates illiterates in the society today, ask them where they graduated from- public Uni smh,

- Cultism, co-habitation like married couples, overcrowded lecture hall with some standing or sitting on the floor, they think these foolish experience will polish any sane human being, lol

All this and many more, yet they think all these is an achievement to experience, talk about suffering and smiling lol

P.S before some dings quote me, Google achievements of some Covenant University graduates and the school as a whole so you don't disgrace yourself.

Covenant University is a fine institution.
By Nigerian standards, It's an Excellent institution.

However, it may be unfair to put all 'public institution' graduates in one bucket as 'awon chest beaters' — unless you're not referring to all Of them — but those who speak condescendingly of private schools like yours.

Remember that over the last decade (maybe increasingly fewer now) the vast majority of lecturers at CU were most likely 'public school' products.

Also, given the opportunity, most people would prefer to have graduated from a private/foreign institution. Thank God for having parents who could/did make it happen for you.

Finally the fact that CU students are successful in their endeavours globally is great / endearing. But it [probably] had little to do with CU. Perharps It's Survival bias at play, maybe I am wrong but it could also be worth considering that the vast majority of CU alumni (not all) are very likely from well-to-do homes with the deep pockets, Psychological support and the much needed network base to do great things — even if they hadn't graduated from CU.

Good institution nonetheless. Success to the graduating class.

1. Pick a political ideology and stick to it. (This would allow you see and interpret that of others)
2. Research politics especially geopolitics as most analysts I've heard from sound like beer parlour and newspaper stand commentators.
3. Don't pick anything politics from Nairaland or Twitter; get your news from non biased sources like the Guardian (UK), DW and AP
4. Read about the political history of Nigeria (plus the military regimes)
5. Don't let nobody discourage you.
6. Research, read widely, research some more and ask questions objectively.
7. Never see anything through ethnic lens (nah how we end up where we dey so)

But if I did, I'll take the advice above— well except for the requirement of sticking to an ideology.
Never stick to any man made ideology. They'll almost all flawed. Consider changing your mind when the Counter argument is overwhelmingly reasonable.

Plus, Set up a YouTube change and hone your craft!

Looks like what you're referring to is in fact an UNSTRUCTURED business and not necessarily a one-man firm.

A One-man firm isn't always a bad and negative thing.
In fact, some of the worlds' most innovative firms are one-man firms — but with structure. I am talking of places you/me would like to work till retirement.

A one-man firm can also be a Multinational company.

E.g.

Dyson (UK) - James Dyson.
JCB (UK) - Anthony Bamford.
Liebherr (Germany) - Hans Liebherr(+), Isolde Liebherr.
Bose - Amar Bose (+).
Mars - Forrest Mars Jnr(+).
Clifbar - Gary Erikson.


These are firms owned virtually 100% by single individuals (and their families) — but with structure.

The problem is/has always been the lack of structure in these Nigerian firms NOT the ownership. Family owned companies can be the most beautiful institutions with proper structure.

Most employers only look at your first degree and NYSC discharge certificate. But some ask for olevel especially when they need to verify age. In fact, I've experienced those that insist on primary school cert.

Having two sittings is okay but for the sake of unforeseen circumstances, you can go ahead and register for WAEC private January or December exam and have your result in one sitting.

WAEC with dates later than one's first degree admission date is usually NOT admissible for supporting related First degree based jobs. It'll look fishy.

You're right though, [Most] employers never look past one's first degree certificates.

But some do — most notably the Consulting & a few MNCs.

I am in a state of dilemma now. Choosing between going for masters and pursuing my passion of studying medicine is quite difficult for me.

I studied chemistry Education, graduated well, served and I'm now teaching. I am barely two years into the profession and I am already tired of it. I feel I deserve a career not just a work. A career in medicine for me is something that I belive will make me happy. it's something I can do even if I'm not paid for....I'm 25 years and I feel I have no time again.

I hope to go pick up a JAMB form this week to pursue my passion and happiness. I will not want to make any mistake here. So I believe hearing from people who have been in this shoe will guide me.

Funding for obvious reasons & keen interest for the tough days it becomes hard to keep studying knowing you're a graduate.

A HND in EE appears more valuable to me than a BS. In IT. (Note that I think IT is not equal to Comp. Sc. But a subset).

Not that it matters much but I hope you know that the word 'prestige' was derived from the Latin word — praestigium which meant delusion, illusion or deceit.

Schools are meant to be resourceful institutions of learning/research — Not centres of 'prestige', Whatever that means.

No way to do that. Arsenal is not a listed company with widely held shares. It's a closely held company where every shareholder knows the other.

Also (as in many closely held firms) existing shareholders have the right of first refusal before shares are sold to a new buyer.

Nigeria having leading scholars in Ghana and South Africa Universities does not make the quality of Nigeria University education higher. ASUU is failing Nigeria student who are very intelligent.

That not the only issue though.

For populated countries, limited lecturing opportunities means that some lecturers would always have to go abroad for opportunities.

In the UK, a good number of the lecturers(particularly in Engineering) are originally from India.
