You said it all. Not everyone could afford that N800 back then. How much was the minimum wage again? cheesy People should stop using the past to hurt themselves. We can't turn back the hands of time... Those days are gone and buried!

michlins:
Truth is that exchange rate isn't a determinant of how good an economy is. For instance, Ghana cedis exchanges higher than the Chinese currency and Korean won and that doesn't mean Ghana has a better economy. Another example is the Kuwait Dina which exchanges for almost $1000/dinar. During the said time, very few people can afford to buy a car even when it sold for #4000. But we have folks buying used cars today for tens of millions.

Having said the above, it's undeniable that Nigeria didn't have potential back in the day. It's just that we had lots of petrodollars and less population and the government then was able to do her job without borrowing like today. Forget all the glorious tales our parents told us about how quick you can get jobs. That's because there were fewer graduates then. We need total overhaul of this country

Balogun106:
Good morning nairalanders, i saw a thread this morning about a guy complaining about a little scar he has on his hand, this gives me the courage to spill out what am currently battling right now, here is my story. Please pardon my English.

My problem started about 3 week's ago, I noticed a discolorations on both sides of my chest on my brest area pricisely, it was slightly lighter than the rest of my body, i showed my friend and he said he couldn't see anything that am just over reacting, i am a very shy guy by nature. I was restless because i couldn't take off my shirt because of it.

I started doing some Google search on how to make the area slight darker to match my surrounding skin, during my Google search i found a product used mainly for vitiligo condition, but couldn't find it in any big pharmacy so i ordered it online and it arrived in 3 day's.

The instruction on the label that came with it was to apply it on affected area and expose the skin to sunlight for 1 minute, then to wait until 2 - 3 week's before repeating, but i was so desperate for results that i couldn't have such patient because i really wanted to get instant result, so i applied the liquid on my chest area which is a very small scar like a dot, and unfortunately it rolled to other areas on my chest which wasn't affected. I still foolishly went ahead and exposed the areas to the sun, i exposed it thought the sun coming through my window, i laid on my bed because it is around the window area.

I exposed my chest area from 1:13 pm - 4:00pm, the next morning i found out that the area was darker than my surrounding skin, the next day i applied bleaching cream to make it lighter, on the third day i found out it was now very reddish than my surrounding skin. I bought razor to scrape the area in other for it to peel off and for a new inner brighter skin to appear, but unfortunately it became worse because i had some slight injury from the scrape.

I was confused so i did some research on Google and found out about chemical peels, i ordered the 30% strength for 13k.... The seller warned me to text patch it on surrounding skin that isn't visible and wait for 24 hour's after seeing that it gave me no negative reaction before using it on where i intends applying it, he also warned me to dilute it in water to reduce the strength, but i was so desperate that i couldn't wait for 24 hour's to text patch it before applying it on my chest. The day i bought it i applied it same day, it also rolled over to other surrounding skin that din't got darker from the effect of the first product i applied.

The image's below are the stage by stage description of what i went through :

Please i need help and advise on what to apply and how to get my skin color back before this damage, i have been so depressed and unable to sleep this past few day's, because of this damages that i caused to myself.

Image 4, how it was before applying the first product product i bought :

Image 1, The dark skin i got a day's after applying it :

Image 2, The reddish skin and injury i got 2 day's later, after applying the bleaching cream and after using razor blade to scrape it and make the area lighter

Image 3, The instant burn i got after applying the chemical peel i bought :

If he had just turned himself in on that fateful day, his charge would have been 'Accidental Killing'. Likely spend some few years in jail, and later released on compassionate ground.

But no, he blew it by driving off. Now he'll be charged for murder if after investigation it was found he had the choice of slowing down to let the victim cross but chose to maintain his speed. His defence would have been he didn't see the victim, but a counter claim would be established. They'll ask him if the victim was a spirit/ghost that made it impossible for him to see.

Like I said, he blew his chances of getting a 'manslaughter' charge when he chose to drive off without halting to help the victim/check if she's still alive.

Career › Re: Please HELP, My Boss Slashed My Salary Unjustly by bigtt76(f): 2:27pm On May 20, 2020
Sad really but look at it this way.

1. At your former company, you didn't work at the production but got N40k. Now at the new company, you were probably paid more for you to work on the production line.

2. I assume the fumes from the chemical is what affects you health wise, it's not for you to diagnose this. Best you could've done was get a medical report from a reputable or company's hospital to be exempted from the production line if the chemicals were in use.

3. Request for an industrial respirator to protect you from the fumes. I expect them to do this without you asking though.

4. By refusing to do what you were instructed to do could cost your employer negatively hence your suspension which is in order. You left undone the action required of you till the next day and didn't report it undone until you were asked. Your boss expectations was that you had done it.

5. The rent loan has tied you to the company's apron for now, either you do what is required of you or risk losing your job.

I wonder what sort of company employs you without medical tests to confirm you can work in their environment, it's even against the labour law. You shouldn't be forced working in an unsafe environment but you probably erred by not presenting a medical report to exempt you from such during your interview.

PhenomenalAustin:
I'm sorry for bothering you all but please hear me out.

I'm posting this on behalf of my uncle.

I was working in a company, and was being paid 40,000 a month not including other allowances. A new company called me to work with them as an Officiator and we negotiated a salary of 60,000.

Both companies produce the same products.

They agreed to pay and I resigned from the other company. I started my new job in Oct. last year and was paid all through Oct., Nov. and Dec.

Earlier this year, January precisely, I had a little issue with my boss. The misunderstanding was that I complained to him that the chemicals we use during productions was adversely affecting me. In the previous company where I worked, I didn't work during the production of the products as I was allergic to the chemicals used.

On a working day, during the time for production, he asked me to join in the production but I politely reminded him about my allergies to the chemicals being used. He commanded me while shouting that I should go back and work. I normally have heart burns, dizziness and severe migraines when I'm exposed to these chemicals.
I left during production as the chemical adversely affected me.

The next day, he came and asked if I had finished the work he commanded me to do the previous day. I apologised to him that I didn't because of the chemicals rxns which he knew about. He didn't say anything but from his body language, I thought everything was alright.

I returned the following day, only to receive a 2-week suspension notice. I was surprised and asked about my offense which the General manager told me, the boss was really pissed and so mad at me which I also explained to the GM and he was really surprised as I did no wrong. Nonetheless, he advised I serve my suspension sentence.

After suspension, I was given a review of my salary and my salary was slashed by 20,000 to 40,000 because of the issue...

I was really confused and bewildered because out of the revised 40,000 I receive per month, the company takes 15,000 out of it for my rent loan...

I've been apologising while also pleading with my boss to reconsider his decision as I'm a family man and 25,000 realistically, will not be sufficient for I and my family. He hasn't yet changed his stance.

I'm so confused, please I need your opinions, suggestions and help whatsoever..

I'm sorry for bothering you.. Thanks

Please help me out please... My uncle is really down at the moment...

Thanks!

Roger Milla [Miller], is one of the most iconic players in football’s history.
The former Cameroonian striker is revered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and world’s football governing body, FIFA.

In 2007, CAF celebrated 50 years of its existence and conducted a poll to determine the best African player since the inception of the organzation — Roger Milla won the prize.

Milla also won the African Player of the year in 1976.

First attempts
Milla played for Cameroon at the 1982 FIFA World cup, he could have had a goal against Peru but his effort was disqualified by the referee.
Cameroon went on to draw the World champions then, Italy, but it was not enough to secure their place in the next round of the FIFA World cup.
The team bowed out of the first round after playing 3 draws in the first three matches.
He won the 1976 African Player of the year award , he participated in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles before called it quit on his international career.

Sad but you guys need to pray for your dad and if possible, let him stay with you girls for a while before deciding on what next to do. Calling his siblings would only aggravate things since they don't have any love for him. Also for you and your siblings protection, keep in house any squabbles you may have. Don't invite awon aye into your issues. God is with you all.

Ope88:
Please don't read and pass, also Pardon all my typo, I'm typing out of duress.

I am from a family of six, 3 girls, 1 boy including my parents.
I had a horrible childhood experience, My Mum (no thanks to her) was something I can't quantify, I can't start writing every of the things she did and I can't say If the religion she practiced contributed largely to the devilish attitude she put up while growing up.

My mum has no good record anywhere, in the church, with the neighbours, with her siblings, we the children, her in laws and even at work, She was always at war with people, if she dreams that someone was trying to attack her in the dream, if she sees the person the following day, she was ready to attack the person.

Also, she would curse her children at any slightest provocation and leave only my brother out(last born and spoilt), She doesn't have any good relationship with her siblings and won't allow my dad visit his family member, I remembered them (Mum and dad) always saying this (don't be unequally yoked together with unbelievers). To them anyone who isn't a Christian (deeper life) is not supposed to be associated with.. My dad on countless occasion will call his mum a witch just because she was a Muslim and one of the oloyes of allasalatu(Muslims will understand this) and had nothing to do with his family members.

This went on and on like this until my elder sister moved out of the house and in the process of trying to find her feet, she got pregnant and my mom practically tormented her life, she later got married to the man, and for that act alone, she's always at logger heads with my sister and her husband..

Later, I got married and then my younger sister followed suit, leaving my dad, herself and my younger brother (whom I have disowned).

Ever since the three of us got happily married, and left the home, my dad slipped into severe depression. Although he has been depressed given lots of things he encountered, job loss, no social interaction, unforgiveness amongst others, it became severe when all his female children left, then from severe depressgion, he started having mental issues, he would wake up and leave the house talking to himself, or start preaching and going out of point with anyone he finds on the street, sometimes he would leave and come home at night, my younger brother who is supposed to comfort and help him, treats him with disdain, my mum who is supposed to check mate his excesses would leave him to his folly and now he has started standing up to her and everyone else in the house..

At 26, he doesn't know his bearing and obviously we have been seeing signs of him wanting to inherit the houses my father built in the same compound.. (and we have noticed that my mum has been making him understand that every of the property belongs to him).

The last straw which broke the camel's back happened one week ago, my elder sister ( who is 9 year older than him) took advantage of the lockdown and visited my father, he is usually exited when we are around him whc helps his severe moodiness. There and then an argument broke out between my sister and my brother, she asked why my brother was insulting our mum for an action that happened in the compound, he beat my sister up and her three children and boasted that, the rest of us (my sister and I) dare not do anything and that by the way we must stop coming to the house, that if he sees any of us He will beat us up, My mum who was supposed to resolve the matter started blaming my sister, asking her why she always love to come visiting, that she's supposed to be in her husband's house or father in laws place and immediately called her hubby to come pick her.

Its been one week my sister left for her house, my daddy who enjoyed her company when she was present started misbehaving again at home. He started roaming, he started cursing everyone.

The reason I'm writing is this, my dad is no where to be found, he left the house yesterday Friday 15th May 2020 and was last seen in ITAMAGA IKORODU, we keep trying his number but he is not picking and now his number is switched off, I'm sure he is still wandering about.

My sisters and I have decided that even when he is found(by God's grace) we do not what him to go back living with my mum and brother.

What other alternatives do we have to care for him, as his own siblings are not happy with him either for abandoning them and their mum (his own mum),, when they needed him the most..

I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LONG POST.. PLEASE HELP ME.

Modified..... My dad has been found today Sunday, 17th May 2020, my sweet mother (elder sister) found her, she has been on her feet since he went missing, luckily he was found but in a terrible state, I saw him via video calls and I wept, he can't recognize even my sister again, and just muttering some words we don't understand, he closes his eyes while saying this and asked everyone to go and leave him, he looks so faint and weak and would not leave where he his...My sister has called his siblings and she's waiting for the next line of ACTION from them.

I'll keep updating the house with reports from our end..

Altogether we have about 1000 law makers in this country representing various constituencies in the grassroots but I bet you many people have not met or seen any of them before unlike western countries where you can go and demand your right s through them.

Until our constitution strips them of perks of office, we will continue to elect people whose sole aim is to better their own lot over the people they govern or represent.

RISING OCEAN LEVEL AND CLIMATE CHANGE AT IT AGAIN!!!!

Before the #lockdown officially kick-started in Lagos on the 30th of March, 2020, I had to quickly tidy my work area on one of our sites at Victoria Island where I was carrying out wall treatment. When I was done, in my usual manner, I started my journey back home en route the popular Remi Olowude street. I ply this route, firstly to cut off the humongous traffic that often builds up around Four Points by Sheraton towards late evening on week days, and secondly to catch a glimpse of the #Atlanticocean which I relish as some parts of the Remi Olowude street has close proximity to this huge water mass and you can virtually feel the power of this nature's giant while driving through that point.

Fast forward to Thursday, 7th of May, 2020, barely four days after the President relaxed the #lockdown, I was plying same route and was greatly shocked at what I saw around what I will describe as the sharpest bend on this street, just 200 metres away from #Twinwaters and about 400 metres from the popular #LekkiLeisure event centre. The last time I passed through this road was about 39 days ago and now it's almost looking like I missed my way! Around the sharpest bend on the street, I saw a raging #Atlanticocean which had successfully broken through the sea wall. It didnt end there, the charging water mass was also forcefully transporting boulders and debris from the broken sea wall towards the motorable road and had successfully deposited some on the road hindering the smooth flow of traffic at that spot.

I saw the urgent need to act and quickly had to pull over, grabbed my phone and took a video of the event. I also spoke with a Vulcanizer working around that spot and he attested to the fact that the water transported the boulders from the shore to the roadside, a reality I was grappling to accept!

A #developingcountry will eventually end up becoming a #developedcountry if it consistently and persistently flexes her muscles doing the right things. In our case as a nation, we have to keep practising the right things like learning to take #proactive steps before an impending doom becomes a present day reality! . What I mean is, we have to repent from this attitude of waiting for a situation to go out of hand before taking a serious action about it.

What is likely to happen if this water mass eventually breaks through its final barrier - the slightly elevated boundary of the Remi Olowude street? We stand to experience a #flood that will destroy many structures, may lead to loss of lives and negatively impact the socio economic activities in Nigeria! Is that an exaggeration? We cannot downplay the economic importance of #EtiOsa local government of Lagos state as it is the home to most of the country's corporate business headquarters , multinational companies and investment organisations. The #LekkiFreetradezone is also home to several constructions and projects valued at trillions of dollars. Undoubtedly, anything that affects the Lekki Epe Express way, which is less than 900 metres(second roundabout specifically) from this flash point, affects the connection of these businesses to its supply chain partners, eventually affecting the Nigerian economy.
Let's all take responsibility by sharing this post till action is taken by the appropriate authorities.
