Let me just add, apart from the resources which would help a lot. Mentality shift is needed. 450 British soldiers died in Afghanistan since 2005. This includes offensives, non combat issues and others. Soldiers while they are to face death should not suddenly be treated as cannon fodder. I followed Syrian battlespace heavily for a while and it was until they almost began to run out of manpower they began to improvise. Go read spioenkop, reddit and other blogs for some of the evolving it took especially during the offensive to clear out isis then caliphate. |
Sizzorkay:Please, most western armies investigate deaths (even if in their hundreds)and that investigation is the reason why there's a lesser likelihood of another soldier dying like the former. There are multiple coroner reports ( or inquests in particular if questionable) of soldiers who died in wars, army bases (home or abroad), etc. The outcome of this mostly results in new better measures to prevent more deaths. Coroners or inquests identified Logistic failures, lack of uparmouring, poor recon were some of the past examples uncovered which they quickly ameliorated. How many times have we learnt in ours about Base security, infantry vehicle, etc. Face it, our doctrine is inadequate and not adapting, this is why things like this keep repeating... |
Banmeallday:You ain't worth it. If you think you're speaking to an easily swayed unintelligent youth then you have lost the plot. |
FFuck You Seun for always allowing your forum to display dead bodies and graphic photos of people. Have you no respect or dececny for the dead! You want to generate traffic on graphic and dead bodies right? |
Still reading whenever I can...one of the best threads on NL. Our solar project got canned for now due to change of mind on house location but seeing some set ups here are inspirational. I hope that when back on track, can also post pics about our set up. Right now, we have 5KW Ying Li cells, Victron charge controller, colour control and a Victron 24/3000W inverter (I know, not enough - but we gon buy more) all bought. Aside battery costs, I established links with someone with incredible rock bottom prices for solar pv Tier 1 cells. Solar in the UK is becoming unattractive from next year (government stopping feed in tariffs) and few companies are moving out stock at rock bottom prices. If you know where to look. ![]() Na only battery be the matter now... |
Hopefully, this would be supplemented by substantial improvement in infrastructure. This country for once is too heavily dependent on public sector employment but with limited large private sector employers. |
EVarn:The lack of protocol or due process is the remnant of the disorder the successive military governments left for us. In Nigeria, anyone influential enough can probably point to someone and order his arrest without explanation and they'll arrest first and talk later. How does a man wake up and order an agency out on illegal unconstitutional errands. These loyalty to their fellow man rather than following the constitution is the bane of the country. Using soldiers to win election, DSS to harrass, police to bully...argh! All this is just lawlessness. I'm watching on, if the country don't change I will wash my hands off Nigeria. Giant of Africa my ass. |
I only pity Nigerians the most as these rogues are playing to the gallery while on full salaries. Ben Murray is also the biggest twatt. If he ain't on twitter chatting shite, he's out here speaking gibberish. The outside world is looking on in shame and disbelief at the charade right now. Idiots without ideology jumping from party to another for their selfish gains. Saraki, Tinubu, Akpabio and Ben and others involved are scums of the earth. |
Surprised that R. Tinubu is a Redeemed Pastor. How does she manage to preach morality but her husband is one of the most corrupt enriched personality in Nigeria. |
Reads very much like a wicked stepfather... You have always been in the know that she had a child, regardless of the other man she now needs the support of her biological mum which you're trying to avoid! |
obonomaa:Liked all the bits where they developed solutions in house. War consumables are expensive. The cones for the Alpha jets were costing 50,000USD per week from the OEM. I do hope they get more machinery and funding to develop further. The UGV still needs further development, more robust tracks for obstacle clearing. |
Forget about oil rich, we probably need more than our oil revenues to maintain our population and meet our needs including our security expenditure. The difference between us and the North Africans is that Algeria seems content to be locked in an arms race with Morocco. Egypt gets billions in aid. Our population is still more than those 3 countries put together but with bigger problems. They had also been building up infrastructures through the decades where we are just starting after years of neglect. It is not rocket science then that we are spread thin with our finances. |
Ioannes:Previous coups were done by power blocs and interests even with the Prime Position. I repeat this country has a dearth of professionalism amongst those in law enforcement. They would switch coats quite easily. If the aggrieved senators or parties for example bandied together and could reach to a more susceptible commander in charge of a brigade or division to remove a stumbling block and they promised him COD role, would he do it or not if he he was susceptible. |
Nigerians are fuelling this sort of tit for tats tomfoolery from both sides of APC and PDP. This is what its becoming in 2018. Idiots like this on either side are making a mockery of governance. We should be passing laws and reforming but we're here dealing with closed chambers, comedians and absolute disregard for law and order. |
Ioannes:Away from foreign assassination conspiracies which I don't subscribe to. There is still the interests and power blocs within our society. How many times do law enforcement get ordered to carry out unconstitutional roles as directed by another influential person? If a police man can be ordered to supervise fraud vote counting, best believe it is not impossible for them to be ordered to do any illegality without batting an eyelid. It'll only take convincing with or without inducement from a bigwig, in or away from the corridors of power but in close proximity to his minions who he can conveniently use to usurp any reforms. |
aribisala0:Fair enough, I don't think the average Nigerian understands ideologies right now. It would have been easier if there was a political party campaigning for an objective like this. The parties available are either too greedy or would definitely sabotage the process as they would largely see it as some of their members losing their posts. The smaller parties may be able to do that but they would largely have to not field candidates for the senate. They might also require funding on a scale greater than these established parties. If only this cause was started months or years ago, it'll have been easier to have a conceivable crowd of supporters for this. I think also, might be best for political parties to start getting funding from donations rather than unknown sources. Alternatively, the use of power is the ONLY viable option but then its inevitable that as we know, The Armed forces are not loyal to the constitution but to the different power blocs or interests who put them there. Sowore for all I can see is highly emotive and unless he can prove me wrong to have a way round this, its a dangerous manoeuvre. The blame is on the dickhead in the first place who inserted this duplicacy in government. By the way, for the NIGERIANS Here, unless you are not well read. There is the SENATE and The House OF LEGISLATIVES. They are in effect doing the same jobs and a collosal waste of money. One has to go is all they're saying |
Buttresses my point of how clueless most vying for power are. From Jonathan, Buhari and then this dude. What executive powers would he deploy to axe the senate? The only way is probably a referendum by the people to end the duplication of role at the senate. Stop promising about what you have no idea of. |
Great compile @ nemesis8u I think also the use of hesco or wire mesh should be introduced. Even a DIY contraption will do, an outer mesh supported by sandbags on the inside. Hesco barriers are just an outer steel mesh or gabion with a plastic tarp on the inside. It's foldable, can be easily stacked unassembled on a truck. The issue is the without the use of earth moving equipment, it might be a problem to fill them up within a time frame. This then boils down again to doctrine as there looks to be little heavy equipment in the Nigerian army set up. The Syrians heavily used bulldozers, caterpillars and during their insurgency to regularly build obstructions to the point where they even uparmoured them.

nemesis8u:I would have said a tethered blimp but they're not exactly small plus there are bases scattered from town to town I think. I'm not too clued up on what would not be cost prohibitive that moving becomes expensive or a logistical nightmare. Security radars are possible alternatives. Another might be via use of cctv poles that can be assembled or disassembled. Our unstable electricity may be a problem. If not that, solar may be used but it has to be properly maintained. If those systems above are overkill or expensive, perimeter defence should have minimum specs. |
They can probably force him to relinquish the domain names if found to have little to no association with the names. It is not an illegal practice but the profiteering aspect is often frowned upon, especially if the seller tries to be greedy. |
... I think our doctrine is still to blame. PMC are more or less short term. What happens after they clear or push out bh elements and leave? Whatever they be teaching at Jaji is clearly outdated or not adapting to the current threats we face. Do we have training on patrols and ambush prevention? How about our engineers actually get to work on Base defence. Defensive Barriers are non existent and from the multiple videos we see, our boys are digging trenches with shovels and sleeping in it. These things might cause quite a few bobs but least we can probably wrap up sooner and focus on important issues than constantly kobo-pinching and depleting funds on war consumables over a longer period of time. I have seen far better knowledge from people like Beegeagle, Peccavi, etc than the rigid ideas from the army chiefs who seem to be outdated and offer nothing new. https://peccaviconsulting./2013/12/06/maiduguri-airport-a-focus-on-force-protection/ https://beegeagle./2012/06/22/ct-coin-operations-defensive-positions-and-watchtowerscontributed-by-a-beegeagles-blogger-peccavi-an-isaf-veteran/ |
naptu2:This kid's sister 'Sophia' is also a falconet and Nike sponsored athlete. I asked her to ask Nike to release the new Jersey for Falcons too, she just blocked me. As for the team, I hope they continue to progress. Must be a lot of sacrifice for the kid to represent Nigeria. |
Massive respect for Mrs Iweala. Congratulations to her. |
Faulty Nigerian doctrine means we still have little to no regard for base planning and defence. A base should already be a bulwark against aggression, rather than ours where trenches and sandbags are the only perimeter fencing. NA engineers seem to lack this thinking or probably don't get consulted when putting up bases in new aor. The service chiefs also seem to lack fresh ideas and lack of urgency in clearing out BH. It's time for fresh leadership. |
If the country was sane, shouldn't the two parties involved in vote buying be disqualified. If to use as a lesson, let the third placed party be given the mandate. Besides, this has got to be the funniest election as the pdp candidate seems more or less unknown. Apart from his master, haven't seen much or heard of him. Makes you wonder who exactly is trying to be governor. |
Fayose is probably playing out his exit strategies. If he loses, he'll likely bail out of Nigeria and use his theatrics as evidence to any foreign government about the mistreatment he endured as a governor. |
Jonaism Buharism Trumpism. You are either loyal to your country or you kowtow to your Master no matter the good or wrong in them. The latter are the bane of humanity. |
The position is that 'she forged'... But if she was to take up a paid position in Nigeria, it was essential! Or unless you own your business, then you would not care. The loophole here is not everyone would also be able to attend higher institution which is kind of discriminatory cos its likely competent persons without a degree may be overlooked for senior positions where NYSC certificate may be required of. An alternative is every Nigerian youth would have to serve the country at a point in their life irrespective of qualifications. |
gabng:DSS, while they're going for the most obvious things for intelligence gathering...forensics, is also very important! Information sharing of biometrics found at AOR can be useful if shared internally and externally. The possibility of sleeper cells reactivating sometimes even around 'secured areas' boils down to missing chances in the past. |
It's very early in the day and he's already LYING. We need nothing of his type to smell power. Isn't his counterpart a convicted felon but here he is in a country where questionable characters can declare for Presidency. Another Crook just like the past and present Presidents. |
