@Obong,
Just kidding bro. Good luck doing what makes you happy. Unfortunately, my relationship with animals end on the dinner table.

With a name like that, i will not trust you with any dog related venture. Obong sounds Calabar and I understand their culinary delight in dogs.

It depends on the context it's used. It could mean bad as in naughty. Or just a bad person.
PoliticsRe: Chimaroke Namani The Most Corrupt Governor by BlackMamba(m): 3:05am On Jun 13, 2007
If you're not a WAWA man that really understood the joke called Chimaroke, please shut up already about infrastructural developments. I can see how refurbished existing structures can easily be sold as landmark projects, especially while the paints are still fresh. WAWA people are not known to be overly combative but the fact that Chimaroke, even with all his illusory achievement, was dogged by strong opposition speaks volumes.

Need I remind the Mr. Seun that the title of this thread need to be changed. It dangerously comes close to the Nazi call to put an end to the Jewish problem. huh
PoliticsRe: Future Of Nigeria- An Honest And Non Tribal Debate by BlackMamba(m): 3:48pm On Jun 09, 2007
As a practical solution to start digging the country out of the menace of corruption, young educated and conscious Nigerians ought to come together in every ward, local government and state, to form non-profit, government-watch organizations. These organizations will promote government awareness among the people. Monitor and expose government corruption and ineptitude. As many as such independent organizations that can be formed all over the country, the better. This will avoid corruption of a few such organizations, as is the case now, by the government.
If every local government has genuine young conscious Nigerians really dedicated to see the rule of law function, I sincerely see a future where the population become more aware to exert pressure on the government to perform. Courts will be more emboldened if they know that they have popular support to issue bold decisions against arbitrary government actions. We've seen a glimpse of a few such decisions in the past year.
To reiterate, this idea of government watchdog is not a new concept in Nigeria but they've been few, concentrated in major cities and not very effective. We must break the cycle of inept leadership by reducing the massive corruption involved. There is no magic wand to democracy and good governance. The people must become actively involved and be ready to sacrifice.

When was AU (former OAU) headquarters moved from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Nigeria? huh

Are these spanish/Portuguese cheesy love dramas subtitled or some kind of voice over in English, while their lips keep moving after the dialog is translated. cheesy
PoliticsRe: The Nigeria Army: Best In Land Troops Worldwide? by BlackMamba(m): 2:57pm On Jun 08, 2007
Well, they are the best in policing their own citizens while the police is relegated to traffic enforcement. They can be very effective quelling civil disobedience with horse whips and more often live shots.

shezy:
is it that a.i.t doesn't whant to spend money or what? bringing in old soap, despite all the meaningfull and meaningless adverts.
Or better yet, shouldn't there be some kind of content control by the NBC to stop this shameless import of soaps from places like Latin America? This is a serious knock on our TV industry.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Lawyers And Judges Wearing White Wigs by BlackMamba(m): 2:40pm On Jun 08, 2007
We need to discard the wig and gown for a more comfortable attire that will suit our climate. The sight of average lawyers in Naija sweating it out in their wig and gown is just pathetic. Not to talk of our crowded courtrooms where A/C is a premium.

As a Lion conversant with the setting of her story, it brings back a feeling of nostalgia and I can't be more proud of her. Kudos to Nsukka for giving us another gem to follow in the footsteps of Chinua Achebe who blazed the trail of literary icons from the university town.
CultureRe: Let's End The 'Osu' Problem by BlackMamba(m): 6:51pm On Jun 07, 2007
It's a remnant of a throw-back culture still loosely observed in some Igbo communities. There are still some discrimination especially in marriages but it's more or less an individual family call. It's not as pronounced as some Igbo detractors will make you believe and has obviously lost most of it's efficacy over the years. There has been communities in Igbo land, who through government support physically destroyed some of the dieties whose adherents promote this hideous practice. It's a practice that is bound to become socially irrelevant, because of the Igbo man's adoration for individual accomplishments.

omogenaija: what i want to know is should we have a babyshower for the 16 year old ? or is the baby shower promoting teenage pregnancy ? do your culture affect your views on this ?
It is a fairly recent tradition in the United States and in other cultures influenced by American culture or media.
You can show some love to a stray classmate who didn't get her priorities right, but definitely not in a school sopposed to mold young minds into independent prosperous adults. Teen pregnancy is a retrogressive ghetto culture, even in the US.

Majority of Niger Delta Igbos deny they're Igbo, despite their obvious and conclusive Igbo heritage. It's a by-product of colonial divide-and-rule, and the Biafran cause.

He is on the run from EFCC, seeking admission to do a post graduate course in the US, alluding that he may not serve his "selected" term as a senator.

Now the joke about about Obasanjo's regime:

EFCC was created by Obasanjo to sanitize the nation (at least that's what we're meant to believe).
Obasanjo, on a campaign trail, few weeks before the election, was busy extolling the virtues of the "mad dog" in Enugu.

Maybe OBJ was not privy to these information and that the "Ebaeno fool" was buying time to become a fugitive from the law. huh huh huh

And what part of the country is known for ritualistic killings for money? When you go for your NYSC, you are adviced by people from this area not to go out at night, lest you become"roasted meat" for some cannibals, Many a youth corper has gone this way. Another thing they are popular for ostracizing people from their own tribe, not marrying them or doing business with them, even though they are all "christains" and you have the nerve to criticize Muslims and northerners
Ignorant uninformed analogy. Nice try at a foolish rationalization.

R&B artist Ne-Yo (real name Shaffer Smith), who has written hits for Rihanna, Beyonce, and Mario Vasquez (former American Idol currently embroiled in a gay sexual harassment lawsuit), has denied gay rumours.

In August, it was rumoured that the 24-year old artist was going to come out of the closet in Essence magazine. When questioned by New York’s Albany Times Union he responded, "Anybody who knows me, knows I'm not gay.”

“I'm blessed to have very, very, very real people in my corner. Some managers will not tell the artist certain things because they don't want to stress them out,” he continued

“ My managers are like, 'Yo, it's a dirty game.' I respect them for that.”

“I look at that as I've officially made it. If my name is in your mouth, that means I'm on your mind. I take it all in stride."

Ne-Yo's debut album, In My Own Words, was released in early 2006 through Def Jam Records.

He has said that he has written songs for Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Corbin Bleu and Enrique Iglesias for their upcoming albums.
SportsRe: Is Anyone Watching The 2007 Nba Playoffs? by BlackMamba(m): 2:17am On Jun 06, 2007
nhl anyone. THE NBA IS DEAD WITH THE SPURS
A dead NBA is way way way better than an inconceivable stupid game of grown men skating on ice and bumping themselves into the wall to thrill some white folks. Maybe we should just watch figure skating, dodgeball or lacrose, or better yet move to Canada to appreciate the stupid hockey game.
Christianity EtcRe: Men And Women Don't Pray Together In The Mosque. Why? by BlackMamba(m): 2:50pm On Jun 05, 2007
Religion is full of laws primarily aimed at reining in adherents. These laws often don't make sense, but you know what, you can't complain, if you're caught up in their stupid ideology. There is always the religious trump card of, "You can't question God's command", even if it makes no sense, "because human intelligence is not up to it".
Unfortunately, Islam still dominate the least enlightened part of the world and ignorance breeds strong faith in religion as a way of escaping social disadvantages.
Enlightenment is the only solution to the religious clamp down on human intelligence. Christianity had discriminatory laws that over the years has been eclipsed by human reasoning. Islam will get around their own stiffling laws, that does humans no good. It's only a question of time. Ideas come and go. The only constant is humans and they keep evolving, changing ideas and belief systems.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Does The Muslims Do Not Pray In English. by BlackMamba(m): 4:11am On May 30, 2007
Reciting prayers in Arabic is as ignorant and dumb as reciting prayers in Latin. This is one of the reasons religion is such a repressive concept.

I was born and bred Rangers. My loyalty transcends win and loss. It's a tradition handed down from generation to generation. I've not watched them play for almost a decade, but the mere fact that they're there representing is enough fun and glory for me. Admitted, foreign clubs can offer lots of entertainment but I still don't feel them like my Flying Antelopes.

UP RANGERS!!!
FamilyRe: Nigeria Law For Divorce by BlackMamba(m): 3:08am On May 29, 2007
Obviously you're overthinking this issue. Unless you have reason to suspect this guy, such minor discrepancies has nothing to do with the authenticity of his divorce in Nigeria. If he claims to have obtained a formal divorce in a Nigerian court, it is same form and substance as obtained in the West. If you really believe that his purported divorce is fake, scrutinizing the divorce decree for typos may not help. Unfortunately, he can produce a Nigerian divorce decree which you may be unable to verify.
FamilyRe: Nigeria Law For Divorce by BlackMamba(m): 2:18am On May 29, 2007
In Nigeria, a man does not change his name as a result of marriage or divorce. A woman changing her last name after marriage is the norm, just like in the West.

africarose: My husband came here from Nigeria. Before him and I got married, I had him show me a proof of divorce before I would marry him. Do the divorced couple still have contact like they would still be married (as in still consider each other married)? Since there is proof of divorce is it still carried out in Nigeria?
Divorce ends marriage globally, including Nigeria. Unless you have reason to suspect your hubby of fraud, divorce means divorce.

ThiefOfHearts: It's quite irritating when you have jobless akatas running their mouths about a country they know nothing about.
Wealthy people get love and respect in Nigeria, not based on race.
I can understand your disgust for BigSis who rightly promotes the African American cause, but can't just live with the fact that Africans, irrespective of the colour semblance with AA, have different set of values.
