PoliticsRe: Sagay: Wike Should Stop Acting As President, Federal Republic Of Rivers by Cantonese: 8:30am On May 13, 2020
Baba Sagay praised Sanwoolu for following the steps of the FGN and disagreed with Wike and Bello on the one hand. On the other hand, in the same interview he accused Sanwoolu of not being proactive enough with the lockdown in Lagos.

I hope the man is not confused and is part of those obsssessed with Wike.

I have repeatedly asked if the people of Eleme have come out to protest against Wike. Have we heard any noise from other areas of Rivers state against him? There is calmness and orderliness in Rivers state. People have better understanding of what they are expected to do to protect themselves, their loved ones and others now in Rivers state?

I want to ask if the same level of kidnapping, robbery, electoral violence and other forms of crimes in Rivers state are perpetrated in Lagos state, will Baba Sagay be talking about the rule of law? At a point we were told that kidnapping started in Rivers state and then spread into other states. The kind of electoral violence experienced at each election in Rivers state is better seen than imagined. If Baba Sagay is made the governor of Rivers state, will he be shouting to the high heavens about the rule of law?

Rivers state needs a very tough governor like Wike or El Rufai to maintain some level of sanity.

From this interview baba Sagay has showed to us that the lockdown order in Lagos failed because there was no enforcement. Again Sanwoolu cannot be forceful because of politics too. He will always remember what played out with Ambode. Yesterday only he threatened another lockdown. Even if a new lockdown order is given, will the people comply? Lagos is the epicenter of covid 19 and needs strong measures to make the state safer.

Baba Sagay should praise Wike for doing well to manage the kind of people leads in Rivers state.
PoliticsRe: PDP Demands Restoration Of Police To Rivers Task Force by Cantonese: 5:35am On May 13, 2020
The police has always never taken such state matters seriously. Even when they are deployed there some take advantage to make money for themselves.

Wike and the Nigerian police have always been at loggerheads. Whether they are there or not the lockdown order will be followed with the support of the people of the state.

I thought policemen on private guard duties had been withdrawn nationwide.

They will always abuse the oppotunity. Some are used to beat up and detain disagreeing family members, friends and business associates. Sometimes you see them with koboko in traffic flogging those who seem to obstruct their movements.

The pictures clearly depict what happens to policemen attached to private citizens and the houseboy roles they play.

since you want to be dumb I will come down to your level of reasoning . The only place that needs that flyover is rumuokoro and not the other areas , what pH needs is creating more urban areas move development , from phalga and obalga to other LGA , and if you think it's flyovers that solve traffic there is something wrong with you If in your brain you think development of urban areas is just roads they there is nothing left to say to you
Chai I don suffer. Someone who does not know what flyovers serve to do says "I will come down to your level of reasoning". What a shame. Please writing unco-ordinated English does not depict you as educated.

Why have you advocated for a bridge in Rumuokoro? Why should a bridge be located there? Olodo. Why is it called "flyover"? What does the word "flyover" or "bridge" mean? What does the word urbanization mean? What are the functions of flyovers? Do you even have what is called common sense at all?

Why can't their parents/state governments/Islamic leaders keep them in their exact locations in the north? Why do they fly around like mosquitoes? How are they able to travel such great distances from the north if boundary closure is effected by security agents?
Have almajiris become traders of covid 19?

NGpatriot:
Too many contradictions and poor understanding of the rule of law, societal expectations, and civilized behavior. How do you break the law, display poor judgment, and uncivilized behavior while trying to enforce the law? It makes no sense.

In the same civilized societies, you referenced where they obey the law, they not only obey the law, they also apply the law like civilized people, not like thugs, hooligans and banana republic goons.

In the USA, a lady in Dallas violated their COVID-19 lockdown laws because she opened her beauty salon for business, she was arrested and charged, but her business wasn't touched or destroyed, this is how they enforce the law in civilized societies.

You obviously are either confused, you don't know how truly behave and enforce the laws in civilized societies because, in civilized societies, they expect their people to obey the law, but they also apply their laws based on the rule of law and due process.

You'll never see a governor in the USA or any civilized society arrogate judicial powers to themselves by charging, prosecuting, convicting, rendering judgments and enforcing the judgment by leading a demolition squad to destroy

private businesses all in one day and on the spot.

Is this your poor and warped understanding of the rule of law and civilized behavior?

You sound like a terrible and a repressive leader in the making, but I do hope and pray that you are not in any leadership position now or in the future.
What a shame that you chose to be cheeky.

Unfortunately you are so deeply troubled by the actions of Wike in Rivers state that you have failed to look closely into events in that state. By the way, have you wondered why the people of Rivers state have not trooped into the streets to register their disagreements? Why do you cry more than the bereaved?

Don't pretend to be civilized. I am certain that you jump queues at banks and ATMs. You "press button" certain times to get undue favours. You drive on the wrong side of the roads. Can you swear that you have not given bribes uncountable times? If you have ever been to a civilized society I am certain you conducted yourself there. You, do you conduct yourself properly here?

Civilized societies did not evolve overnight. It took the sound judgements and sacrifices of great leaders and the people to achieve the societies they habit. Today Nigerians in millions have trooped to foreign countries to enjoy the societies built by citizens of those nations.

I asked you if truly you believe that the Nigerian society is a civilized one. You either did not read it or you chose to bypass it. I also asked if it was morally right to break the law deliberately. You failed to respond to my questions but rather chose the easy path of insults. Is that how civilized you are? Can you not express your opinion with decorum knowing that the other person in entitled to his opinion?

Examples abound of leaders of nations who on some occasions applied the same strong arm tactics to get their nations to where they are today.

Maybe you have not heard of Paul Kagame and what he's been doing in Rwanda. Have you heard of Lee Kwon Yu who was called the father of Singapore? We had Buhari as head of state between 1983 & 1985. Where you very young then and not of age? I can tell you confidently that in his 2 years as the head of state sanity restored everywhere in Nigeria until Babangida/Abacha truncated it.

Nigeria needs strong and decisive leaders so the society can get to the level of civilized ones.

Lagos prohibited the use of motorcycles in certain areas. Government enforced and thousands of motorcycles were seized... unlawfully as some said. Many people in Lagos clapped and celebrated. In some south east states, governors supervised personally the pulling down of houses built by kidnappers and ritualists. People clapped and celebrated. Wike's decision to pull down the properties may be too harsh, but the truth as it continues to stand is that obedience is always better than sacrifice.

I never contradicted myself. I have maintained constantly that there are certain Nigerians who need the strong arm. I have maintained that some Nigerians are unusually unruly and must be handled in an unruly way.

For your information, I am a leader. Do you want to see me? I can invite you to meet me one on one.

Do you know that he who points one finger at someone has four of his own fingers pointing back at him? Your single evil wishful finger returns to you four folds.

Alanpoza007:
Your rantings are just empty supporting tyranny and abuse of office. You don't go about demolishing buildings because of lockdown violations in civilized societies just because you feel you have limitless powers as a governor. It's unheard of. There are standard measures like heavy fines, arrests, sealing off premises etc. With all this Wike's braggadicio and showmanship of seizing and auctioning trucks/vehicles and demolishing buildings to pass a message that he's on top of the game as far as Covid-19 containment is concerned, you'd think Rivers would be Covid-19 free by now. However, evidential data has pointed to the contrary, with new cases every now and then. In the whole of the South-South and South-East, Edo state aside, Rivers has the highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19. We're talking about among 10 states here. These other governors of the remaining 9 states haven't gone about behaving like mad people destroying buildings in the name of fighting Covid-19 spread yet they've been to contain it fairly well especially governors of the South-East.
Thankfully you said "a civilized society". Do you truthfully believe that the Nigerian society is a civilized one? Do you call it braggado? Sorry, I disagree with you bro. Leadership comes with certain responsibilities. Part of the responsibilities is the enforcement of laws. In civilized societies people live by laws. Nigerians hypocritically travel to other countries and obey their laws right from the airport. The ones in prisons all over the world broke their laws. Whoever went there to complain? Followership also has its responsibilities, part of which is abiding by laws.

We cannot continue so recklessly in this country. Wike's actions may be seen as extreme but truthfully some people in this country need those measures. Now you may ask how many of those on the affected local governments were found disobeying? Those who obey, should we can them fools? Do they not need food in their homes?

This country truthfully needs strong leaders who are able to put things in the right perspectives.

Painfully you do not seem to realise that some governors are economical with the truth about figures. We all sincerely pray that the figures do not skyrocket. But Wike is honest enough about not letting it escalate beyond control.

Just like everyone screamed to the heavens against PMB if Wike fails to take control he will be held respondible in the event of a big breakout of the virus in Rivers state.

"Accomodating federal government". Thank God it's a federal government man who said that.

If the federal government was not accomodating, airports would have been shut in february. Inter state boundary security would have been more effective.
Some governors would not be waiting to take undue advantage of covid 19 funds.
Lagos covid 19 cases would not be rising so rapidly. The worst hit states are those controlled by APC governors.

Wike and El Rufai have strong policies in place. They have refused to accomodate.
Hopefully very soon Kogi will not run cap in hand to Abuja asking for covid 19 funds.

Now the man may never build anything in Rivers state again, he will decide to invest everything he has in Lagos, so las las who loose?

And the Ipob people will be supporting him on Twitter. The reason Lagos is developing at a very fast pace is the ease of investment, a sane government should at worst take over the management of the hotel till certain obligations are met, at this rate of destruction and auctions of properties if this covid-19 linger for 1 year or more, there will be no more hotels or cars remaining in Rivers state before the vaccine is discovered
Absolutely you are wrong.
Why don't you take time to ask why the man is on the run? Knowing the levels of robbery, kidnapping, bunkering and other forms of crime in Rivers state, why has the man not made himself available?
Why are there no riots, upheavals, etc in Rivers state as we speak?
Why are the people in the affected areas and other unaffected areas complying with the lockdown?
Have you not noticed that those deslt with are just an insignificant population of the people?
No ease of investment in Rivers state and you have multinationals operating there with a lot begging to operate there?
Lagosians are quite unruly, you must agree. The reason has to do with many political interests and godfatherism. How many complied with the Lagos lockdown? Do you know that a new lockdown is imminent in Lagos? Do you know that covid19 is rapidly spreading in Lagos? We have been told that by July Lagos should expect over 120,000 cases.
With a weak governor whose political will is in the hands of godfathers how can Lagos do it?
To you Wike may have made an immoral move, but ask yourself if it was morally right for those ones to disobey the orders.
Remember the saying "if a bird learns to fly without perching, a hunter must learn to shoot without aiming". Lagos too will get there soon.

Wike was in his 30s when he became a local government chairman. The same goes for Amaechi and Magnus Abe. They took leadership by the scruff of the neck. They did not sit and wait for enabling environments. They created enabling environments for themselves. Brother, the richest people today did not wait for enabling environments, they created them. They got ideas that translated to power and wealth.

GOD bless you bro.
You will make it in life.
I always laugh at the joke we've constituted ourselves into and called a democracy. Simply aping the West because we lack a sense of self worth and introspective reasoning as a people. Until we identify our uniqueness as a people both positively and negatively we're making no progress.
It takes strong men to build or to facilitate building strong institutions. Nigeria, and I must add all of black Africa can only advance under a benevolent, visionary form of dictatorship. I dare say it is a lack of it that has brought us this low and if we do not get our acts together we can only sink further.
We were taught something in medical school: there's no democracy in an emergency. Case in point in a multiple vehicle accident scene, as a doctor it's not a scenario where you waste precious time deliberating or seeking opinion. You immediately get into your element and tell people what to do. You dictate. Delegate what you can. You hold that man by the leg! You check that little girl's pulse!! You raise that woman's head up! You clear that boy's airways like this!! You tie this cloth over the bleeding arm!! No time. Every second counts. Lives are at stake. My question is is this not where we are as a country? If what we are in currently as a country is not a dire crisis, a gruesome emergency somebody tell me exactly what it is. But we swallowed the concept of governance shoved down our throats by our colonial masters hook, line, sinker, fisherman and the whole goddamn boat and expect we will make meaningful progress. Negroes wake up from this inebriated, sedated consciousness. We have an extremely bloated Senate and House that is bleeding us with unmatched and historically unprecedented avarice and we call it democracy. Somebody tell me we do not need an iron hand to handle us in this country and I'll show you a pathological liar. We are lawless as a people, at least 98% of us. Tell us to go out and we choose to stay in. Tell us to stay in and we give you 1,001 reasons why we should go out and how there's nothing you can do about it.
The West has sold us their democratic form of government as the best thing for us but it is nothing but a lie from the pits of hell.
I'm glad you made reference to Lee Kuan Yew and how he transformed Singapore into an economic giant. He held sway for 31 years to achieve this. All the while the West were busy accusing him of highhandedness, lack of freedom of speech, political persecution bla bla... See Singapore today. The end has justified the means. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk of Turkey is another one of note. Paul Kagame of Rwanda who took the reigns of leadership in the aftermath of 1994 ethnic genocide is another classical example. Forget the fine boy look that guy is a ruthless dictator. But he has overturned the woes of the needless genocide and placed Rwanda in a positive socioeconomic trajectory.
I will always say this Visionary benevolent dictatorship is what can get the Black race out of the doldrums. Strong men with vision and unmitigated powers need only to surround themselves with and employ technocrats instead of hopeless self-seeking politicians. A benevolent dictator does not need to pander to every nonsense group, agency or constituency. He has a vision for his people and he pulls out all stops to achieve it. Get in his way and you'll be wasted. As in wasted. Any reasonable government would adopt this principle for our power sector for example. Nothing can kick-start our economic growth faster than instituting uninterrupted power supply to the entire populace. But no, we prefer to speak English at our different levels of tiers of government.
We go tey.
Thank you so very much bro.

We need to ask ourselves why Nigerians conduct themselves decently while they are in foreign countries. The ones who flout the laws there are caught and jailed. Who goes there to ask them why their laws should be applied on the offenders?
Several Nigerians are in prison yards all over the world, how many foreigners are in Nigerian prisons? Nigerian teach foreigners how to disrespect our laws and in turn the foreigners take advantage to deal with them...factories owned by Indians and Chinese come to mind quickly with their harsh employment conditions in Nigeria. We cannot do the same in foreign countries. Such businesses will close without delay.

We must get to the point of enough is enough to have a better country. If PMB according to his slogan says "it begins with you", then truthfully leadership must take responsibility and deliver quality to the people. That's what I see Gov. Wike doing in this situation.

When he dealt with the helicopter company three weeks ago or so, the minister told him that he was acting outside his powers. The chairman of Bristow called all the way from America to apologize.
The minister clearly was playing politics and being hypocritical.

This business as usual must come to an end someday in this country.

Cheers.

Bagehot:
The problem with this thought process is that it glorifies strong men and not strong institutions. Hence why when the strong-men like Quadaffi and Saddam fall, their nations crumble. Should any Leader in a democratic setting suddenly wake up and declare a law to retroactively take effect? If truly you understand how laws work, that alone is a red flag for the courts. If you don't believe me, ask legal practitioners around you about the enforcement of retroactive laws.

I'm not against punishing people who break the law with hefty fines, community service, or even a few weeks of imprisonment, but for a Governor to wake up and make uncouth and draconian pronouncements should be a source of worry to anyone who truly cares about democracy. I also hope you know that this dictatorship you are clamoring for wasn't exactly rosy - it is rife with state-sponsored assassinations, genocides and corruption. So maybe you should ask yourself 'Who would watch the watchman?'
My dear friend, without strong men how can you have strong institutions?

Let's take a look at our recent history with OBJ. Do you remember that with him as the president insititutions were built. He was a fearless leader, very decisive and he put the right professionals in the right positions. Can you honestly say that with OBJ boko haram would lay claim to any part of Nigeria? Today insitutions built by him thrive. That's what visionary strongmen do.

Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein were victims of international political interests by the Americans. Their countries were solid and they left solid economies. The Americans destroyed their institutions and infrastructures just to create markets for the American business people. They were solid leaders who had the interests of their people at heart.

See are their no laws against crimes like murder, kidnapping or robbery. Just as you have prosecuting lawyers you also have defence lawyers whose duties are to convince the judges that the accused, caught red handed, was not an offender in the first place. So it is with the case of Rivers state. Certainly you must have lawyers for and against.

"State sponsored assassinations, genocide, corruption", etc are prices that some will pay. Those who pay the prices are exactly like those people caught by the Rivers Gov who think they are untouchable.

Do you know that no one will dare in Portharcourt and ObioAkpor local governments to drive their cars out, walk out of their houses or try to defy the order following this example? The ones caught face compulsory quarantine. If hunger was their excuse, now they will learn their lessons in detention potentially without food.

If the virus spreads in Rivers state, the same governor will be accused of not doing enough to protect the people.

The lesson is there for all Nigerians who are either leaders or ordinary citizens. Behave yourself or get punished.

The one who watches the watchman are those who live by the rules. They say "those who go to equity must have clean hands". After their service, the institutions in place surely will judge them.
PoliticsRe: Lockdown: Wike Orders Auction Of Seized Vehicles by Cantonese:

This sort of thinking is why smart folks don't invest their money in places like Nigeria, where based on one man's whims, your property can be willfully expropriated. Do existing regulations in place prescribe fines, or auction of property? Your sort of thinking is precisely why we cannot have a proper democracy in place: people like you would support silly politicians in becoming emperors and laws onto themselves. This silly action cannot even stand in court! Yup . . . there is the small issue of retroactive regulations.
And who says they cannot stand in courts when such orders are backed by laws?

Why are we being so hypocritical? Why will Nigerians never learn? Unfortunately such positions as yours are the reasons why we remain as we are and very backward.

When the governors began to close interstate boundaries people asked where they found the powers. In the face of existing realities what were they expected to do? Sit down and watch while the president was acting very slowly in the face of a deadly virus threatening humanity?

Smart people invest their money where laws are in place to protect their investments and such laws are enforced. Does democracy allow people to act lawlessly? We are talking about lawlessness and disobedience to orders for the safety of the society. As it stands, Wike needs to ensure that those who disobey the order to lockdown do not put the lives of those who stay at home at risk. By the way have you asked why just a few people chose to disobey in the mentioned local government areas?

If Emperors are needed to make Nigeria better, let's vote them in and have a saner society. Li Kwam Yu did the same thing in Singapore in the 60s and 70s, go and see for yourself how Singapore is today. At a point he ordered those who urinated openly to be flogged and detained. Today Nigerians beg to go there. UAE had a very effective Sultan in the 80s who decided to transform Dubai. Today Nigerians rush madly to go there.

We must ask what is the problem with us. Why do we always choose to disobey laws? If the military leadersship in 1983-85 continued at the pace then Nigeria would have been a better place. As it stands we lost that opportunity. With due respect I do not know if you were of age at the aforementioned period. The democratic president we have today is not the military head of state we had then. Unfortunately our democracy, age and health issues have tied his hands.

All strong leaders must be supported to move the country to the next level.
