Yes many 'traditional' people (esp the family) will look as single moms like they're less desirable than women without kids.

You usually need less for Master's programs. Some Thesis Master's program turn out to be net positive when grants, invigilating, TA work & scholarships are considered.

However, you must have a proof of liquid funds for the total amount: academic & living expenses combined; when you apply for a visa.
