Christianity Etc › Re: Pandora: My Observation About Bishop Oyedepo's Tax Haven Controversy - Highered by InvertedHammer: 9:49pm On Oct 10, 2021*. Modified: 4:12am On Oct 11, 2021 |
HigherEd: I'm back from Church, and I find myself laughing as people on nairaland are claiming that I am a PR person for Bishop Oyedepo and expect I would soon be back with a rebuttal. I wasn't intending any rebuttal before, as I am not a PR person for the living faith church. But I would do this in defense of the gospel because a non credible attack against one of Nigeria's most credible churches is unacceptable.
I think many of us generally get carried away with headlines and forget the substance of an article before rushing to comment.
I have gone through the entire article and I haven't seen anything indicting of the Oyedepo family. But I would address four observations from the article itself and from the surrounding comments.
Why Should Oyedepo Or Living Faith Avoid Taxes By Setting Up Offshore Accounts Giving The Bible Verse "Give Unto Ceasar What Is Unto Ceasar"?
1) For all the businesses the living faith church operates in Nigeria pays taxes to the Nigerian government. This includes the publishing business, and the other taxable constituent businesses around the universities which includes the microfinance banks, water and beverage factories, farms etc.
2) There are over 200 nations on earth eligible to receive taxes. So British Islands is also 'ceasar'. Every nation has the responsibility to make themselves tax attractive to welcome foreign investment and Oyedepo and his family are just as eligible as anyone else to search for better priced tax opportunities for their personal or ministry benefit.
Is Living Faith Investment Carriage A Secret?
Inside the Mantle book and under the finance section of the living faith church details to great extent the administrative procedure for the church, it is well cited that the living faith church can maintain asset management to protect the church's income. Or did you expect the church to warehouse millions of dollars with banks who would live large on the proceeds and expose the hard earned income of worshippers to inflation even before the church uses it?
Are Oyedepo's Universities The Most Expensive In Nigeria As Claimed By The Article?
We all know this to be untrue. The Living Faith university system runs one of the most pocket friendly private universities in Nigeria when comapred to secular varsities of equal standing. There's nothing unusual about the price of Living faith schools.
I suspect that the addition of this claim was just to make Oyedepo look further bad and horrible.
Does Living Faith Maintain Four Jets?
This is another claim that has been debunked several times by Leke Beecroft of Church gist and many others who cared to explain. The living faith church has used four to five planes in the past to convey its church leadership. It regularly sells her older planes to buy new ones. Currently, the church uses more of its helicopter to shuffle the church leadership and that of the RCCG around the country. While deemphasizing on the use of the private jet.
However, the article presented it as though the living faith church maintains an active fleet of four jets on standby in a futile attempt to further make the church appear greedy and evil. / The issues involved in the Pandora saga are beyond your level of comprehension. There is a reason why it is a big deal to warrant an expose'. Tax haven exists for a purpose and those who patronize them know why they do. What you are trying to do is akin to justifying reasons for sleeping with a prostitute. There is a reason why none of those accounts was opened as belonging to Winners Chapel International, Faith Terbanacle. Oyedepo is a glorified executive criminal Criminals are blessed too. Afterall he cannot match the financial prowess and philanthropy of Pablo Escobar. But they are both criminals in different industries nonetheless. Escobar was a drug baron while Oyedepo is a pulpit bandit. / |

murphyibiam15: I'm trying to encourage our men here to take good care of their health, physically and mentally.
It's not like women don't have theirs but those of the men are very much noticeable in the sense that it takes a toll on their physical and mental health.
(1) I entered lagos two weeks ago and I needed to take uber, this uber driver as I can guess will be bw his 50s and 60s.He needed to send money to his wife (3k)but somehow he couldn't do transfer since he was driving me but I helped him with my bank app while he gave me cash. Do you know after transferring the money his wife was ungrateful and demanded he returns home immediately (that was around 8pm).Now,the man started complaining to me how whether he brings money or not how his wife keeps complaining and he said he's pitying Nigerian men who are getting married to strange women and giving birth without knowing what they're going into. He looked stressed out and trying to make ends meet but yet his wife added more burden, not just financially but mentally. So tell me how this kind of stressed man won't die out so sooner than later. He was lucky somehow that one of his children got a scholarship to study in India.
(2) I attended a friend's wedding and to my utmost shock both fathers of the celebrants are late. Only their moms are still alive while other relatives represented their fathers. So I was wondering how their moms are still alive while their fathers are late. Some may say men marry younger women that's why they die out but from the mothers of those celebrants they're not up to 60 years, so how much age difference that will make the two men be late?
Im saying this because I have noticed lots of people esp men are passing through a lot of stress, please men don't allow your wives, siblings or anything infact to overstress you to the point of dying out in time. We men aren't super beings, try to take things easy.
Just my 2cents, bye. / I have never met a happily married woman. Na so so complain complain. Forget the all smiley public display of affection. Only idiotic man will try to impress a wife/woman. Just do your "best" and leave the rest to God. The few who tried ended up dead early. / |

Travel › Re: Travelling Into Nigerian (MMIA) Is Uber Safe To Your Destination Within Lagos ? by InvertedHammer: 3:37am On Oct 10, 2021 |
oldienavie: Hi guys, I need experiences from people flying into Nigeria(MMIA) Lagos. My family is not going to be able to meet me at the airport this time and I am weighing up my options with transit.
I have a friend who said he knows someone that does transportation that he can come pick me up and take me to an hotel, however I am a little skeptical with that option with the high rates of insecurity in the country.
My opinion is that sometimes being annonymous to your service provider is better, but I am a little concerned with the security level of Uber in Lagos.
Are uber drivers known to kidnap their clients particularly people boarding them at MMIA ? Can uber hold their drivers responsible if something untoward were to happen to their clients, or if they are known to connive with kidnappers etc ?
I just need experienced info and also from uber drivers to make a better decision.
THanks all. / When you pick your luggage, just go outside. There are registered cab services at the airport. Make sure the driver has an ID and confirm with other drivers. Nothing to worry about. I have never used Uber. But I have Bolt app. That's what I use. No issues. Make sure you are going to a hotel along the airport road/Ajao Estate axis (about 5-10 mins from the airport). Then the next day, you can go to your house. / |
