Of course currency speculators affect exchange rates but their effects are limited and short term. It takes good monetary cum fiscal policies to stabilize the naira which are both nonexistent in this confused Buhari’s regime. How come Buhari’s 2015-2023 regime is correctly mimicking his 1984 regime? Don’t blame Buhari, blame the idiotas that witnessed his regime in 1984 and were able to convince all the mouthbreathing morons that voted him back into power.

Family › Re: My Wife Is Ungrateful by InvertedHammer: 2:47pm On Sep 18, 2021
Lessons123:
I have a wife and blessed with a daughter, I earn extremely high and I am in a debt of over 2m monthly as a result of paying for a loan monthly to set up a business for my wife which has gulped over 30m and still a failure though this is the second failure of business opened.

I decided to open the business as we both agreed she should resign as her salary as a teacher was the same salary with one of our two maids.

The issue is despite doing very well financially, my wife always gives me issues and there doesn't seem to be any love apart from me being her daily ATM.

There was actually a phase when I had challenges financially and she was the only person to mock me.

I need your advice as the quarrels are becoming too constant and the severe quarrels are majorly related to my brother in laws and sister in laws. Mind you my brother in law has been living with us and disrespects me and she defends him. Also before the marriage she was a very humble and tolerating lady until the business was opened. Sometimes I feel guilty as my dad had to sell his house in lekki and is in the process of buying a house in Ajah because he needed only 10m to complete his house in the village, which I could have easily provided if it wasn't for my indebtedness through my wife.

Mature advise please.
/
I think you should continue building wealth so that when they eventually kill you, they will have something to fall back on to live large. So if you see your wife mixing sniper with your drink, you will seek NL advice first before protecting your life?

Reading the family problems of the modern Nigerian men tells a lot about what gave the wives the audacity to act the way they do—they are married to indecisive wimps.

Travel › Re: Road Trip: Lagos To Abuja By Road by InvertedHammer: 2:27pm On Sep 18, 2021
speedfreak:
Good morning all, I recently moved to Lagos for a new job, having been here for a year I am planning on going back to Abuja for Easter, not really a fan of public buses and due to the surge in traveling, Flight rates are astronomical for me and my fiancé, so driving would be my surest, most convenient and cheapest alternative.

I have gone through previous travel threads but they all seem outdated so I’m looking for an update.

I plan on leaving Thursday morning 5am, Im driving 2012 Honda Accord coupe. My questions would be:

1. First time driving such long distance, is it advisable? I’m not such a tough chap but I’m sure I can manage

2. How safe is the trip? With the kidnapping trend going on.

3. How much would it cost me to fuel? Car is a 4 cylinder without a cat (catalytic converter)

4. How rough will it be on the car? Car is less than 5months old, wouldn’t want to rough it up just yet.

5. How accurate is google maps? It estimates 12hrs through Ibadan and 14hrs through illorin.

Aside from the above any other advice or assistance would be welcomed.

FFK’s defection to APC is of no benefits to him. Everyone knows FFK and the little he stands for. What APC and the Fulani cabals did with him is best described as keeping your enemy closer. Ribadu played such dangerous game and has been relegated to oblivion. There is nothing in 2023 for FFK. They hurriedly took him in for photo-opps with Buhari for a public show of a dog licking its vomit.

Smile4mee01:
Most Nigerians youth would fancy traveling abroad to better their lives, which is not a bad thing. In fact, some people's lives have changed for the better only because they traveled out of Nigeria.

However, this thread is about those who chose to return home for reasons such as
1. Inability to get legal papers to continue to reside there.
2. Personal choice
3. Better Job offers
And by Abroad, I mean developed “1st world countries “like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany etc

As a Nigerian in Diaspora myself, one of my good friends (We both in our 30s’) who is Ghanaian is ready to go back to his country. He has been very frugal here saving over $100,000 cash/yr for the past 3 yrs. He says he has dedicated 3yrs of his life to working so he can set himself up for life. He worked as a health care support worker, taking care of the disabled and aged ppl, a job many people will consider dirty.

Nigerians who returned from Abroad, Any regret?

For a caregiver to save $100,000/year after tax and living expenses means he lives in Jupiter not US. If you could rewrite the story with facts, maybe I can give you some insights.

Hey! Guys.

I want to know how fast can a 5 or bedroom duplex be built? I mean in how many weeks?

Let's assume whatever money that will be needed is readily available, dry land is also available and cleared of trees and bushes.

Drawings and render also available.

Building is a contemporary design.

I'll appreciate it if anyone with idea gives a breakdown.

If you also have a rough estimate of the cost please let us know.

The question doesn't even make any sense. If you want to build the house, go ahead. Who cares?..unless a doctor has announced your date of possible death and you are trying to beat the deadline to get the house ready for the funeral.

I am just laughing at these online news outlets. I defied the sit-at-home and drove from Enugu to PH yesterday. The expressway was a ghost town. At a point, I was the only vehicle on the express. Noticeably, all the police checkpoints were unmanned. Only the military checkpoints were active with the personnel seemingly bored out of their minds. I won’t dare such a journey again on a Monday for now.

I made contacts with their Vice Chairman, paid him off and had him keep his boys at bay. At a point I had to grease the palms of their igwe and cabinet. But in all, I spent about 40% of the original amount demanded. Being a gentleman could be a vice sometimes in Nigeria.

They are not pampering terrorists. A script is being played out. In 2023, if a Southerner wins the Presidency, they will let the terrorists run haywire and that way, power remains in the North. They don't want to relinquish power to the South. There is a reason they keep showing samples of what they can do. It is a veiled threat.

Yea staying in a hotel (if it’s a good one) might be considered extravagant.

My point is that what we consider “comfortable” in Nigeria could just be bare minimum in other places. So was it truly truly extravagant or was she trying to live at a standard that the rest of the world considers fairly normal.
Between rent/lease in a good and safe neighborhood, transportation, uninterrupted power supply and nutritious meals, she could spend close to that much before adding miscellaneous expenses

Yes, I would also love to see a break down of how she spent the money. I’m interested in knowing the true state of things right now.
/
Perhaps she should show us where she lives in UK. There are poor places in UK too. She could have spent N10m a month in Nigeria by choice. But there is no need lamenting about it like it is normal.
If she chose to wash down her lunch with a bottle of Don Perignon every day, is that normal?

People are MANAGING on a N200k salary
Especially those with families
Is it not this same Nigeria that I am in ?

Let's do a quick analogy
A man and wife earn a joint income of N300k monthly

This same family has three kids
How in the hell are you gonna give your family a befitting lifestyle on this income?
Maybe 5 to 6 years ago this was a decent income (by Nigerian standard)
But with the way devaluation and inflation have eaten the value of the naira
It's not that much

Putting your kids in decent schools will take a bite off that income
Rent in a decent area will also do it's own damage
Paying of black tax (we have a high dependence ratio in this failed country) is also there
High cost of transport
Cooking quality meals for this family of 5
Medical Bill's and drugs
Data subscription,
Cable tv
Electricity bill, running of gen and repairing the gen
Taking the kids out occasionally for recreation?
How much will remain

People just cope with the incomes they are getting
And its not a bad thing
But saying they are living fine is a cop out

Time to play Telliperson by Timaya. Going by how lucky that Katsina people got with Buhari in power, I pray that Tinubu succeeds Buhari so that his people would enjoy like OBJ's people enjoyed under him as well.

Egalitarianism plays second fiddle to ethnicity and religion among Nigerians. It will only get predictably worse--that has been the trend since 1960. With each coming election, Nigerians vowed to get it right. But with N2k bribery, they'd elect one who'd make his predecessor look like an angel. Whoever comes in 2023 will be worse than Buhari guaranteed. By 2025, Nigerians will be crying "Bring Back Buhari". Take emotions out of it.

Could Nigerians believe that they'd ever prefer GEJ? grin

She is just one of those Twitter noisemakers and a clout-chaser. Don't forget of all her expenses, she complained most about the price of food. She lived extravagantly and tried to pass it off as if anyone living in Nigeria needs minimum N1m per month to survive. People are living well on N200k monthly salary.
If you go to Manhattan, New York and blow $10k in a month, don't turn around and wonder how US citizens live comfortably with less than that amount in a month. They do. She is using Twitter for what many people use it for--exaggerated narratives.

Staying in a hotel for 2 months.

And if she didn't, I will really like to know what she spent the N2.5m on in two months. N2.5m in two months is relatively on the high side. How many families considered comfortable in Nigeria are living such life?

Dr. Maduka's town has been in turmoil since early 2000s. I feel sorry for him though. Dealing with villagers require the patience of a monk that many progressive minds don't possess. One man who can barely feed will challenge you because you are wealthy and your father is his mate.
