Thewritingnerd: Good afternoon everyone, quick question: I already had an Upwork account from Nigeria (NB: this account wasn’t active, I just created it and abandoned it) ,
if I were to change the account location and start using it to get freelance work now in the UK, would the hours count towards my 20-limit as a student? Would it be considered self-employment which is a breach of the student visa conditions?
Add: Also, is remote work that I’d been doing for a UK client from back home and I’ve continued to do now that I’m in the uk part of my 20 hours too 🤔 Yes freelancing is self employment and its a breach of your student visa rule |

headofschool: Whatever first fruit means to you... Bible commands that we bring first fruit of harvest...in any case either you do it annually or monthly it is still the same as tithe and God made it so.
Having been in the UK, I now understand why tithing was an issue to some Nigerians. However if you personally feel it is a rip off, just take that as your opinion. There are pastors who take advantage of it and get dubious, but tithing was not designed to make pastor richer than members... However some Pastors who have become extremely rich are natural business men who would flourish wherever they work. I might condemn those who sell anointing oil and water but selling books , audios, videos or establishing educational institutions are very justified means of a natural business man be it a pastor or not.
People with so much anger about tithing and enriching pastor should also take bold step to sue home office to stop wasting millions of your tax🤣 to fund Bibby Stockholm's maintenance and illegal migrant expenses...take them to court and direct your anger to a proper channel since you have stopped paying Nigerian pastor's, at least UK compulsory own too should monitored and challenged Where in the bible did God commands Christians to give their January salary as first fruit? |

koonbey: Look up to you? Lmao tufiakwa.
I've never said anything about tithe. You see how you keep bringing that up in irrelevant contexts like a toddler throwing a tantrum and determined to be as loud and obnoxious as possible till it has its way?
Anyway, your behaviour does, unfortunately, seem to set the tone for the thread due to your position. I'm sure you won't see that and I'm not really typing this for your benefit - it's for other, hopefully more level-headed people, to calm things down. You are confused as always, if my behaviour set the tone for the thread and people go along with me that simply means they look up to me. If a grown adult like you is incapable of behaving differently then you are not man enough to judge me. |

If you want to know, ask. You didn’t, and you just jumped to insults and attacks.
Not sure what has happened to this three as in the past few days but it seems most people have just lost their sense of decorum and people are letting their inner ágberòs out. I guess the mod doing the same is part of what's emboldening people but please try and do better. Of course!! It’s my fault, I never knew that people look up to me this much, I mean a grown up adults following the footsteps of an unfit mod in a faceless forum. So can I take advantage of my influence on you lot to demand that you stop paying tithe? |

babajeje123: See, I know what you are talking about and I have asked those questions before. The first issue is why Justwise is always using tithe to derail this thread? It's so unfortunate to have him as a mod as he is always failing upholding the rules of this platform once a discuss is against what he stands for. There is a religion section where we all can go to to argue for or against tithing.
That said, you don't disseminate your seemingly truth by insulting others. No one will accept it. You can't also force others to accept your truth as it may be senseless to them. So you can only encourage people to see from your perspective and if they refuse you let them be. You have Justwise derangement syndrome disease. Anytime an argument is going on here and i'm involved you will definitely jump in to shout bullying and moderatorship..i mean this has been the case for years You failed to answer a single question asked by dustydee but wasted the opportunity to moan about Justwise |

dustydee: It may be insulting but what if what if it's the truth? A lot of people that preach it do it either out of ignorance or to scam people. That's why you hardly hear them teach the unfavourable passages about tithing. They also do not tell you that if you obey the law of tithing, you must obey all the other laws or you are cursed (No be me talk am, na bible). People should study the bible and find out the following: What is tithe? Who should pay it? Who should it be paid to? How should it be paid? When should it be paid? If you start with these questions and sincerely answer them, people will be better informed. Another potential scam that is creeping into chritianity is "first fruit". I once led a bible study where this was the topic and I could not teach it because the references given in the manual did not in anyway support it and they "twisted" it to fit the narrative. Years later, I attended an oyinbo church and the preacher tocuhed on first fruit and how it was done and my eyes opened. I asked him after the service about paying first fruit and his question to me was "Is it an African thing?" I was the second African to ask him about that. Since then I have not paid it. Are you really expecting them to answer these questions? |

I think it's just a defence on the syndrome using something like security, good life and others but I am not part of them. My goal is to make money here and establish myself in Nigeria. I prefer an insecure Nigeria to a secure UK provided there is money. Let's stop deceiving ourselves. Our main motive here is to make money not that we enjoy life here. Don't do that because you will not return to Nigeria. Just leave the UK now and move back to Nigeria to make your money. |

Free will giving to the work of God or to the needy is biblical. You do that as your spirit leads you and you do that without making a public show of it. Tithes and offering is a scam used by fraudulent Christian religious leaders to enrich themselves. If your spirit touches you to give to a pastor or a church member do it without expecting anything in return. God instructed the Israelites to give a tithe of their agricultural produce (exclusively livestock and grain) to the Levites. The Levites were the physical descendants of Levi, who had no inheritance in the land of Israel. it was intended to provide sustenance for the Levites who were responsible for the work in the temple and had no inheritance in the land of Israel as stipulated by the law (Numbers 18:21-32). Secondly, the tithes were also meant to be a source of nourishment for the poor (Deuteronomy 14:27-29), which was collected every three years (NOT MONTHLY). |

I mean there's a UK Pastor wearing £30K LVs and £300K Patek wristwatches but people will still give the tithe. You really cant help someone who is being scammed until their eyes open, wake up and smell the coffee
I think everyone needs to watch this cartoon "Sausage Party". It's a subtle dig at religion and very funny -https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1700841/
To each his own, your money, your religion, your tithe
As for me sha, I have never paid tithe and I will never give any Pastorpreneur 1 Cent to goan use for Gucci shoes
Gucci sef go fit me na A lot of church goers who pay tithe does it out of ignorance of the scripture, some pay because they believe that God will bless them financially but there is no such thing. The richest man in Nigeria or Africa is not a Christian, richest man in the world is not a Christian but they all have one thing in common…they have products and services that generate wealth for them. Nigerian pastors become rich after scamming their gullible members through all sorts of false teachings and fake miracles. |

Solumtoya: It's not in my nature to engage random folks on the internet especially over matters like religion which is why I didn't quote you by deliberately misspelling your moniker but I'd make an exception and leave the thread if I have to since it's actually yours.
You said and I quote "Tithing is a scam" among several other things. That's just off for people here who may hold it as a sacred doctrine. You won't do same to even an Islamic doctrine or any other legal group like LGBTQ even if you don't believe in what they're doing.
You have to respect other people's legal beliefs even if you feel you are now much wiser than them. You can share your opinion but making such definite derogatory statements is bullying.
This isn't about you "calling out some fraud in the Church" , don't divert it and act like that's all you said.
I used to respect you a lot and I still do, I really don't want to stretch this conversation Tithing is a scam and those religious leaders benefiting from it are committing fraud. If this bothers you then deep down you know i'm telling you the truth. Read your bible, when tithing was practiced in old testament it was not about money and never paid monthly. |

Solumtoya: This is what this thread is all about: Community of kindness and sharing.
I had decided to let go of this thread because folks like Justman had decided to use the opportunity of being a moderator to attack beliefs that people hold sacred. I never understand how one thinks it's wise to keep saying negative things about non-criminal religious doctrines. You won't do such in UK to people's sexual orientation, for instance, regardless of your stance on the matter. But because it's Nairaland, it's alright to say things like "someone's sacred doctrine is a scam run by crooks in the Church".
I digress... But, I think I will come back. My epistles have helped so many people here.
I passed my theory driving test yesterday, first time. I also got my Mortgage Offer last week after only coming here 2 years ago as a Student Dependant. These are only 2 examples of some of the ways God has used information from this thread to help me.
So, here's to more Communal assistance on Nairaland. Its Justwise. If you are offended because i called out some criminal/fraud happening in many Churches today then you are part of the prob. The difference between many Churches today and armed robbers is just gun. charlatans running those Churches know how gullible people like are hence your reaction. Welcome back. |
