Ah Ken Nnamani. I once visited him at his country home just outside Enugu. He is a billionaire who made his money in Oil a long time ago. One thing about the man is that even though he is a very rich man, he acts like a commoner. It's not unusual to see him walking around his village with no security, greeting people. He did this even when he was Senate president

This message is for the Igbo people from the land of the rising Sun aka Biafra.

Why have you all chosen to disappoint Nigerians who to an extent thought you guys were serious about Biafra?

Don't tell me all your rantings on Nairaland were mere Chest beating?

You come on Nairaland everyday to inform the world how you plan to achieve your Biafra dream. You even went as far as carving other non Eastern States to your Biafra.
I am begging you all please here is an opportunity for you to actualize your dream of having a Biafran Country, please don't let this opportunity slip away. It will never come back.
No single protest and y'all want Us to take you guys serious?

What happened to y'all has your feet gone cold or has your Chests been over beaten?
Oh poor Biafra, it saddens my heart to find out you are just a toothless dog.

O ye people from the land of the rising Sun arise and fight for what you want.
It's not Biafrans you should be sad about, they are just people seeking their freedom. The real people you should be sad about are Nigerians such as your self who have embraced the colonial slavery that Lord Lugard put them into.

By the way, watch the YouTube video below and tell me if you still think Biafra is an online thing

Col Ojukwu the founder of biafra died as a Nigerian. He died in the UK after a long illness, aged 78. The Nigerian Army accorded him the highest military accolade and conducted a funeral parade for him in Abuja, his coffin was draped in a Nigerian flag during his burial.
Before his death, Ojukwu ran for President of a united Nigeria.
His wife Bianca after his death was made the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain. His son, Mr Emeka Ojukwu, also contested in the 2015 Federal House of Representatives election in Nigeria.
The war had come and gone. The story of the war and what led to it has been told, is being told and will continue to be told.
What seems to me a human tragedy all through ages is the inability of man to learn a good lesson from the past so as to avoid the pitfall of those who had gone before.
There is also the innate and unconscious desire of man to remain oblivious of the lessons of the past. He hopes and believes that the past can be ignored, that the present is what matters, that no mistakes of the present can be as serious and grievous as the mistakes of the past. As a result history tends to repeat itself. However, there are exceptions of nations and men who had learnt from history to avoid collective and individual disasters or a repetition of such disasters. I feel confident that Nigeria must join the group of these happy exceptions if we are to have political stability, economic progress, integrated development, social justice, contentment and be the epicenter of African solidarity. Since the end of the civil war, Nigeria has made considerable progress in all these areas.

A lot of people seem to think that Biafra was about Ojukwu same some people think Biafra is about Nnamdi Kanu. Ojukwu was the leader of the movement but he was not the movement. Biafra is and always will be about the collective desire of a people to be free.

If the average Nigerian can understand the need for Nigeria to get its independence from Britain and even marks 1st of October to celebrate this, then I see no reason why that same Nigerian cannot understand my desire as an Igbo man to be independent of Nigeria.

OP, you reasons for saying Biafra is not viable are so funny, I felt like hanging myself out of laughter. You believe that corruption will kill Biafra? Has the massively corrupt entity called Nigeria been killed by corruption? You said that the minorities will not want be part of Biafra because the will be minorities in Biafra? Please don't make me laugh. A Niger- Delta man has the three majorities of Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa-Fulani on his head but you are trying to say this is better than having just Igbos? It is better to have three masters than one? How can any of the minorities be even more 'minor' in Biafra than they already are in Nigeria? 80% of the resources of the Niger-Delta people is reportedly in hands of the Northerners but you think the Niger-Deltans have a better deal in Nigeria than they could have in Biafra? Who are the people who just kicked a Niger-Delta president out of office? Who stood by the Niger-Delta people in the last elections? You people really make me laugh

I just don't get it when people play the victim card on the number of people that died in the inglorious civil war. I don't care about the number be it 500k, 1m, 3m or even 10m! Afterall, it was a war and the biafra soldiers were not saying the lords prayers - they were busy killing Nigerians too.

For some reasons, I took a public transport some weeks ago I heard some guys discussing (they were both ibos). One of them ask the other "how on earth do you fight with someone that feeds you?" According to him, although Awolowo was wrong for the so-called starvation policy, but should be commended for ending the war sooner because he (Awo) could have chosen to poison the foods and kill millions more instead of the blockade.

I never thought of it that way before but it rang through to me. You can't pick up a fight with your boss and later turn around complaining that he sacks you! His point was that the ibos started a war that they were not prepared for and now complaining of the consequence - fighting someone that feed you and later complain of not giving you food.

Having said that the truth is that everybody has a GOD given right to call for self-determination. BUT it must be through peaceful means. Otherwise history is notorious of having a way to repeat itself. A friend showed me a video on a questions and answer summit by some Igbo group with Mr Kanu. It was shocking to see how unprepaired the guy is as he couldn't give convincing answers to some of the questions asked.

Any group is free to ask for independence but it has to be peaceful without insult to others especially those who they think should follow them.
This flawed thinking of yours is why black Africa never moves forward. Igbos never started any war, it was your Nigeria that brought war to the east. You said in your write up that people have a right to self determination. Well, Ojukwu asked the people of eastern Nigeria what they wanted and they told him they wanted their sovereignty. Ojukwu then declared them a free people under the banner of Biafra. Ojukwu was one of those rare African leaders who did what his people asked of him. It was Nigeria, a mere British colonial constuct, that brought war down to the east in the name of 'one Nigeria'. So please, you and others like you should stop saying Igbos started war when it was Nigeria that came shooting first. I regard anything that can kill people in their millions as truly evil entity. Nigeria has done this in the past during Biafran war, and will probably do it again if Biafra is declared again. That is why it is time to do away with this British fabrication called Nigeria, it has lasted past its shelf life. Nigeria is an evil entity.

Ikweres call it 'Igu-Ocha', most Igbos call it 'Igwe-Ocha' while some historical text such as Wikipedia call it 'Ugwu-Ocha'. If the river passes through non-Iboland, this whole charade is soooo dead on arrival! You think the natives of those lands will watch you cross their land, from the sea across their land to Ibo land? No fucking way is that gonna happen! Not only would you be stopped, but even if it ever happens, they can choose to dam the river at anytime, so you end up with a big hole or channel without water!!
Unfortunately, no one can lay claim to the rivers, even if it passes through their lands. You said they might dam the River? Under international law, no country with access to the sea can be denied that access. Someone also said said something about bridges. There is something that people are forgetting. Using the river Thames as an example. There are several river ports along the Thames especially in London but rarely do you see Big ships plying it. So how do all the containers get in and how do they leave? The answer is badges! Some of these badges can carry hundreds of containers at a time. Large ships do not necessarily not have to ply the entire length of the River, they only have to get to a certain point then discharge their contents on to badges that will now take it to the River ports to be craned off.

I also believe that a sea port can be built in Obuaku Abia state because it is almost as close to the sea as Portharcourt

It not possible that they can trust each other. Igbos and Yorubas are as different as day and night. Great, I support Referendum.

I support Biafra's agitation! Let them just remove hate speeches from Yoruba's . They should begin to relocate massively from Monday. They should leave their place of works throughout what is today constituted as Nigeria and move to their enclave. Thats the first step toward Biafra.
Well, hate speech is not a crime. No one ever gets charged to court for saying they hate someone or for insulting a person so Yorubas will have put up with it while we are still 'one Nigeria'. It falls under freedom of speech. As for relocating to our enclaves, we have already done this in the past to no avail. In 1967, all Igbos went back home to face Biafra, it didn't stop Nigerians shouting 'one Nigeria' all over the place and coming to fight to bring us back into Nigeria. If we still relocate on Monday like you said, it will still not give us Biafra so that's pointless. We will only relocate after Biafra is declared.

Sorry mate but you have to accept that a white man called Lord Lugard cannot come from Britain to give you your country. It is for all of us all to find our country and we Igbos already found ours in Biafra.

I think it is. No one region or federal government can stop you guys from pursuing that. Recently, Cross-River state floated a Grand Project and that man is also part of this country. I can tell you that if Biafra comes today, even those ones will be difficult to attain. A mandate needs to be agreed to by all first. I can't imagine a case where I can't visit my S/East again: No, I can't! My children must be proud of their parents heritage. And if at least 60% of those things I stated can not be achieved in present day, even a change of Nomenclature would not really help sir.
If a young man is a reckless guy, because he's married won't make him a prudent guy; he would still carry his recklessness. Honestly, I support Biafra a lot but the lack of strategy and the obvious hatred spewed on others with the political timings made me query the agitators intents. Let's subject the general public moods to a 5 years period and let's see if most agitators would not fizzle out their quests. If they can't hold in for 5yrs straight with their agitations, then we can say quest was just sensational and blackmail. But, if they can hold it on, then we can certainly said their quest is more than emotions but a well-thought out quest.
Obviously you are not Igbo to have this kind of 'defeatist' mindset. What do you mean you can't visit Biafra? Just like anybody with business to conduct anywhere in world, you are entitled to visit anywhere. Nigeria had 100 years of unity and 55 years of nationhood to get its act right. It has not worked. It is time to seek new horizons because it's only a fool stands a long time on quick sand. Nigeria was nothing but a British experiment to see if several ethnic groups could live together progressively. 55 years on, one civil war, millions dead, 70% porverty rate, widespread corruption, tribalism, nepotism and general economic disaster. Biafrans think its high time to call a spade by its right name and try something new. What we need is a referendum let us all go our different way and find our individual destinies.

I learnt it by heart when I was still in secondary school. It is something that anyone who has a sense of self determination aspires to retain their sovereignty should learn in its entirety.

Funny enough, when this document was written up, America were fighting to secede from Britain. The British were saying similar things that Nigerians say about Biafra:

"They have no right to secede!"

"Treason!"

"They will never survive without us"

"They will come back begging!"

"The fear of losing their investments will make them change their minds"

Guess what? America is now the greatest nation on earth

Not all of what you call Niger-Delta will be part of Biafra so you have to be specific about what tribes you mean. I think that one of the biggest reasons for someone from the south of Nigeria to embrace Biafra is because we will all get out of Nigeria. Of course if some people prefere to stay, that's their choice.
PoliticsRe: Flashback Of The Nigerian Civil War,and Why We Should Stop Its Recurrence(photos by kingzizzy: 2:48pm On Oct 30, 2015
Most Nigerians regard Biafra as synonymous with war but the truth is that Biafra has always been a democratic and peaceful agitation. It is Nigeria that always brings war into the issue of Biafra. Before Ojukwu declared Biafra,he constituted the Eastern Nigeria consultative forum to advice him on what to do. This forum comprised of all the Chiefs and representatives of the 20 provinces of the old eastern region. It was the same Ojukwu who despite the deafening sound "secession!" in East against the wholesale massacre of easterners all over Nigeria that still had the temerity of mind to sit down with Gowon in Ghana and hammer out an agreement so that there would be no war. It was Gowon that broke the agreement with the creation of states and Ojukwu asked the consultative forum what to do. They mandated him to declare Biafra. When people talk about Ojukwu, they don't realise the pains that Ojukwu went through to avoid war. The same people never query Gowon for going against the Aburi accord he signed in Ghana. People never question why the North had to massacre over 50,000 easterners, men, women and children. All you you hear from Nigerians is "Ojukwu started the war!". The ignorance of most Nigerians is truly incredible. Through out the 3 years the war lasted, Ojukwu kept telling Gowon that he would call a halt to the war if Gowon agreed to a referendum or plebicite so that the people could decide their fate but Gowon said no! "We must be one Nigeria!", "treason!"The result is that it wasn't Biafra soldiers that died but innocent civilians in their millions, mostly through starvation and disease. All to keep a British fabrication called Nigeria one.

The same thing is about to repeat its self before our very eyes. Uwazurike started MASSOB and chose a peaceful non violent approach. What did Nigerians do? "Kill them!" "One Nigeria!" "Treason!". True to type, the Nigerian authorities gunned down MASSOB members, clamped them in jail and detained and tortured Uwazurike. Watching all this were other MASSOB members like Nnamdi Kanu and Ben Onwuka. They decided that the Nigerian Government doesn't understand the word peace. So Nnamdi formed IPOB and Radio Biafra while Onwuka formed the Biafran Zionist Federation or BZF. This time, both men now added an element of militancy to their struggle. What did Nigerians once again do? "Kill them" "one Nigeria" "Treason!". Both men have been detained in Nigerian custody with many of their followers languishing in jail.

Now what do Nigerians think that the next breed of Biafran agitators are going to be? The next ones are those who are going to embrace full blown militancy. These ones will be the ones who are going to be carrying guns, unlike Uwazurike, Kanu and Onwuka. These ones will be the ones that Police and DSS will not be able to arrest without a shoot out. Boko Haram in the North, Biafran Militancy in the east, possible return of the Niger-Delta militants who are currently restive. As this unfolds, as this tragedy is about to happen, you Nigerians are going to shout the same old chant as Nigeria goes down in flames.

Such a pity

As for Igbos and their investments in Nigeria. No amount of investments anywhere in the world is worth Igbos getting their own country. Only a fool will give up the dream of having his own country because of outside investments.

If a referendum is held today in Igboland, at least 90% will vote to go with Biafra.

Hello Fellow Igbos,

I got my greatest shock a few days ago. A good friend of mine, well educated, well to do and from Akwa Ibom rubbished Igbos due to Biafra movement. To my greatest surprise, all his friends from SS stood with him. His grouse :

1. Old Eastern region had Calabar as its capital but was later moved to Enugu and Umuahia because Igbos felt they were superior to their Efik kith and kin.

2. Biafra was declared without consulting them. Biafra soldiers (Igbos) invaded their villages putting them to undue hardship. They believed they were occupied.

3. Biafra war was subsequently sabotaged by SS because of reasons mentioned above.

4. Igbos lost millions of lives as a result

5. Their forefathers had already told them what we did.

6. Igbos are currently sabotaging SS because of their support for Jonathan on previous elections and want to lump them into Biafra as we did before.

7. Nigerian intervention and subsequent victory in the war was a liberation for them the SS.

My friends that lump SS in Biafra map, especially non-igbo regions in SS ( Ijaw, Ibibio, Itsekiri, etc), you need to rethink. A single sabotage will spoil everything.

Finally, let's work together and make our politicians accountable. We need to protest for bad roads and other infrastructure in SE. May be in future, we propose for a peaceful breakaway via referendum. Let us concentrate in building our land for future. We are a blessed people. Despite the war, we bounced back very quickly. In terms of HDI ( human development index), other regions are trailing behind us. Against all odds, we remain indomitable.

I remain an unapologetic Igbo son and have no grouses against other tribes in Nigeria. Live and let live !
Two things. Ojukwu consulted everybody before declaring Biafra. Googke the Eastern Nigeria consultative forum and read where all the Chiefs of what you now call 'SS' mandated Ojukwu to declare Biafra. I will even attach it here for anyone who doubts.

Why can you build your land in Biafra? Why must it be in Nigeria? Didbt your people survive before there was anything called Nigeria?

Don't worry, when we get Biafra, one of the first things we will do is to abolish all the states and return to regionalism and provinces like it used to be. It was in the bid of the Devil known as Gowon to introduce unitary rule and increase the power of the North by implementing "divide and rule" that these states were created. It is because of these states that the western Igbos are called 'Delta Igbo'. It is because of these states that Southern Igbos are called "Rivers Igbos". It is because of these states that some will call himself an 'Imolite'. What is an Imolite? What is Imo state? What is Anambra state? Igbos named after a body of water? Just like Nigeria? It is because of these states that the average Nigerian thinks that Igboland ends in the 5 South-eastern states. The states have done so much to divide Igbos to the delight of the Northerners and it must stop.

All states must go on the declaration of Biafra!!
