Why equate movie fantasy with real life?
In movie, husband and wife are both actors, and their "abusive relationship" ends when the camera stops.

In real life, the abuse never stops.

I've known, and heard of women who have been beaten mercilessly till they died, in the name of "stick to the marriage". I've personally advised 3 different women to leave, before it's too late. The man you're saving your marriage for will simply get another wife once you die, and she will be abusing your children. The only thing your relatives, pastor, advisors can do is cry and shake their heads in pain... they can't bring you back to life.

No husband is worth collecting abuse.
Family › Re: Would You Sell The Land Where Your Parents Were Buried? by nextstep(m): 2:13pm On Oct 05, 2020
We have too many coffins littered around our towns in the name of "papa is buried in our compound", and in some cases "papa is buried under the parlor". One of my uncles said to me: "nobody wants to visit this place because we have like 4 graves... who can sleep with all those ghosts around"? And it's true. If not that the graves house my relatives, me too would fear to even enter my ancestral compound.

I support the girl. Move the bones to a dedicated graveyard, and pay your respects in that place. Lagos and Abuja have such, and many cities are moving in that direction.

To those objecting, let me ask you this: where are all the graveyards of all your ancestors? Nobody in my family knows were our papa's papa's papa's papa (great-great-grandparents) were buried, meaning, over time, it don't matter.

Everybody has 16 great-great-grandparents... I doubt anybody can point and say, yep, these are where 16 of them are buried...

The truth is, nobody knows why she killed herself. Everything we're reading is speculation.

So please stop bashing a person because of somebody's speculation. We don't know anybody's internal state of mind. People can be smiling all day but be absolutely miserable inside. What we hope is people will seek counseling and realize while there's life there's hope.

May she RIP, and condolences to her family.

design and packaging has always been trending among manufacturing companies.
salon cars follow a particular kind of design.
gt cars follow a particular kind of design.

funny enough Korean cars have always look fancier than their German and american counterparts. quality was their major issue which they've worked on.
I think we're not on the same page about the word packaging: my assumption is it has more to do with advertising, slick images, than on the product itself. So when I say spend more money on quality, I'm looking at the design and reliability of the product, choice of materials, etc, and not on marketing campaigns.

If I misunderstood, my apologies...

My experience is that when young companies go all out on advertising, packaging, etc, there's less money spent on the product itself, which can mean long-term failure.

You are not a business man, packaging can make a deaf man buy hear piece, why do most company spend fortunes on advertisement?if you know the important of packaging you won't spill this rubbish, see lagos a glorified ghetto but most expensive to live, guy it packaging, there's nothing in lagos.
It's ironic that you think I'm not a business man, but I'm not sure you understood my post. I don't deny that packaging is important. What I did say is that the lack of good packaging is typical for a manufacturing company at this stage in its life, and that with time, they will get to that point.

If you look at long-lasting companies like Kia, Samsung, and LG (Korean companies), you'll see that they've evolved their packaging over our lifetime. They used to look absolutely terrible 30 years ago (in comparison with slick American and Japanese companies), but now they are some of the most sophisticated around. You can see the same happening with Chinese companies.

Packaging definitely helps sell products by many multiples, no doubt. But it's the reputation of how well products work that gives companies lasting power. With the fixed, shallow pockets of younger companies, money spent on packaging is money not spent on the quality of the product. If people are initially fooled by your slick packaging, they won't be buying your product again if the quality vs. cost is not right. In fact, they will actively advise others not to buy, despite the packaging.

One thing I notice about innoson is that they lack packaging.
Better a quality product without packaging, than rubbish in fancy packaging.
Most companies evolve in this manner: basic, then small packaging, then better packaging.

Can you compare Korean packaging of 20 years ago with now? Or Chinese packaging of 10 years ago to now? They are almost as good as Japanese ones. And even Japanese one were crappy at first, in the 1960s (so I hear). These things take time, effort, and money, so it's important to focus on what's important to buyers first and grow your base reputation.

What's special about car park?
So that's a new achievement now for a manufacturing company. People posting this stuffs should stop feeding people junks
From an industrial-historian perspective, this is a big deal: it shows that demand for Innoson's products are growing, and their production capacity is increasing. This is absolutely wonderful, because people are supporting the company, as we've always wanted.

It also means a lot of these cars will soon be available on the used-market in a couple of years, at a cheaper price, further increasing their share of the car market in Nigeria. I anticipate several spare parts companies will spring up (if not already) to services these cars in the future.

A lot of these vehicles are being bought by other countries, so right before our eyes, Nigeria is becoming an exporter of cars.

Rather than spend more on school fees and exams, use your mid-twenties drive to be more productive for yourself and others. Education › Re: What Is The Meaning Of Unity School? by nextstep(m): 7:41pm On Oct 02, 2020
olisaEze:
Model secondary schools owned by the Federal govt meant to promote unity, but with an abused purpose through the institution of Federal Character used in accepting pupils.

There’s no unity in explaining to a child that he can’t be admitted because even though he made the pass mark, he is not from a certain geopolitical zone.

One Nigeria, but some are more 'oner' than the others.
Unity Schools and quota-system are just like desegregation and affirmative-action in the US. Their aim to uplift certain sections of society that have traditionally not benefited from (or seen the benefit of) modern educational practices, but only for one generation (e.g. 25 years).

Because of this, Nigerians from Sokoto end up in Ebonyi; those from Osun end up in Benue, promoting mutual understanding, in theory. The quota system also enables people who would ordinarily not make it to these schools (due to high competition in some areas) have a chance to improve their future (and the overall future of the country).

The unfortunate side effect of this policy is that many students from competitive states cannot be granted admission.

But look at it from the other side: without quota system, because you're disadvantaged by being born into a state with low educational bar, you never got a chance to improve yourself via affordable secondary schooling, which means no admission to Uni, which limits your life choices. That isn't fair either.

In other words, for instance, either some students from Delta can't be admitted, or all students from Adamawa can't be admitted (because all spots were taken by Deltans), so Adamawa continues to be educationally challenged forever. You have to strike a balance, with the expectation that the society won't have to keep doing this after a few decades.

In the meantime, you build more and more schools all over the country, which improves the available spaces, encourages development in many places that ordinarily won't ever get schools. Then encourage Deltans to go to school in Adamawa, and vice-versa. That's the principle, anyway.

How do you think I felt, as a Delta child, that I could not get into my preferred FGC, yet my best friend from Kogi was able to, despite I was always in the top 5 in my class, and he was around #20-30?

Thanks to this system however, he too has become successful, as have I. Now the country has two people, instead of just 1, who are highly educated.
Education › Re: What Is The Meaning Of Unity School? by nextstep(m): 7:23pm On Oct 02, 2020
The term usually (if not always) applies to Federal Government Colleges, which are secondary schools. They were borne out of the same spirit as "federal character", NYSC, quota-system etc, meant to foster a unity among people of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

The idea is that you can do nation-building by exposing Nigerians from different parts of the country to each other and to different places.

All the above are good in concept, but can be subverted if not well administered.

2. I never trust a girl's word; whether they have boyfriend or not is irrelevant. They will do what they will do.

vice versa. The U.S. actually became stronger
Really? I think US is winning petty battles but losing the war. It doesn't happen at once, but undoubtedly, USA is less influential today than it was 20 years ago. It will only get less so.

Europe is saying, "we can't rely on the US; yes, we need to pay more for our defense; and now we need to quit our dependency on US arms". Sounds like the US defense industry is going to lose out, which has other implications for the US' ability to project its power. The recent call to extend the arms embargo on Iran... fell flat at the Security Council as traditional allies felt ambivalent, with China and Russia outright rejecting it.

America is withdrawing from leadership roles in organizations like WHO (during a pandemic), and climate change accords (while ignoring the science behind the worst fires they've seen). On the other hand, China is upping it's funding and is growing more influential around the globe, with far more relevance in growing economies in Africa than US. They even fought US to a standstill on the ongoing trade dispute, despite the trouble with Huawei and TikTok. Two decades ago, China would have capitulated quickly, but the sleeping Dragon has become stronger, challenging the weakening Eagle. Canada is also engaged in tit-fot-tat disputes with US. There are growing realizations that the world is getting tired of the big bully US which penalizes countries for disagreeing with it on any grounds.

More significantly, China recently pledged to be carbon neutral before 2060, something the US has refused to show leadership in. In fact, US is retrogressing. Guess who's going to be the leader in renewables? If not for Tesla and Toyota, US really would have very little electric vehicle capacity. China already has the largest market share in EVs and buses, as well as panels, etc. China also has surpassed the US in number of scientific publications, which for long has been used as a benchmark for technical leadership, and as a proxy for economic growth.

Although still a popular place to go, immigrants, students, and tourists are increasingly looking elsewhere.

Igbo tradition doesn't explicitly support it, but it tolerates it. We realized long ago that some people are like that, but we didn't torture, jail, burn, or otherwise persecute people for being differently oriented. This is the point of this post.

Abrahamic religions have intolerance as their basis ("there is no other God but I", "there is no other way but mine", and "everyone else shall perish in fire", etc). That's the mindset that encourages people to kill other human beings for being different - whether by color, religion, orientation, and so on. We have an inherently live-and-let-live philosophy, and it applies to many aspects of our ancient heritage and informs our modern lives. It's my contention that oyinbo and arabs are merely catching up with our civilized behavior, after centuries of preaching hate and division.

I see parallels in our concept of female husband - when a (heterosexual) woman marries a woman to bear children for her. Oyinbo saw this and said it was unholy, and convinced most of us. However, this is a far advanced socio-cultural construct from ancient times in Igboland, yet there was absolutely no space for this in Western countries until very recently.
