I don't accept that Nigeria failing is a bad thing. This was a marriage of expediency to join two dissimilar countries so that the northern one would have a better chance of survival. Rather than keep hobbling the South, let the country dissolve back into two (or more) according to the wishes of the people. Would France and Spain accept if we went and joined them?

In 1976, then Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed, eyeballed the United States of America, the ‘World’s Policeman’, over the liberation of Angola. President Gerald Ford quickly expressed America’s displeasure at the recognition of the MPLA as the legitimate voice of the people of Angola by Nigeria and some other nations...

At the extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of African Unity (now African Union) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 11 January 1976, Mohammed declared, among others: “when I contemplate the evils of apartheid, my heart bleeds and I am sure the heart of every true-blooded African bleeds.

Rather than join hands with the forces fighting for self-determination and against racism and apartheid, the United States policy makers clearly decided that it was in the best interests of their country to maintain white supremacy and minority regimes in Africa… Africa has come of age. It’s no longer under the orbit of any extra continental power. For too long has it been presumed that the African needs outside ‘experts’ to tell him who are his friends and who are his enemies. The time has come when we should make it clear that we can decide for ourselves; that we know our own interests and how to protect those interests; that we are capable of resolving African problems without presumptuous lessons in ideological dangers which, more often than not, have no relevance for us, nor for the problem at hand.”
I hope it's no lost on anyone that barely 1 month later, General Murtala Mohammed was gunned down, allegedly by Colonel Dimka in a coup effort. It's my estimation Dimka was merely a pawn, and the order came from Ford, via the CIA.

Parody is when people know the account is just for play. This is social commentary, and allowable by free speech. They looked through all his DMs, tweets, and didn't see anything criminal. Yet he was detained for 84 days.

I know this is Nigeria, but I seriously doubt that GEJ himself called for the boy's arrest. Likely some oversabi officers - he mentioned Jonathan's CSO.

It's also disappointing that youths here are busy blaming the poor guy for doing something which is not a crime. This is exactly why our leaders are just riding all over us. I may even be bashed for this comment, while the real problem is gross injustice; lack of freedom of speech; and denying access to a lawyer.

indeed.com and monster.com are the best places to answer your question. Look at the number of job posting, and visit some of those companies.
Travel › Re: What Are Top Skills I Need To Learn Before Leaving For USA? by nextstep(m):
First, look on job boards like indeed.com and monster.com to find what are the best paying, and get the skills to get those jobs. See how many posting there per category... that will give you a sense of what's in demand.

Programming, IT, health, insurance, business analysts, are the top 5 that you can get without advanced education. You'd need a bachelors in one of these areas (computers, chemistry, business) to get jobs that pay, though there can be exceptions.

These are also very good suggestions... fashion, design, ~eh... you will probably be working at a restaurant for a few years before you can make those come true, realistically speaking.

Graphic design, Digital marketing, Video editing, Programming, Data science, mobile app & web development.
I would do more research on these job boards for interior design/decoration before you set your mind to it. It sounds like you need a few years experience before getting this kind of work. Other jobs, like repairs, office cleaning, wait staff, are plentiful, but the pay is relatively low per US standards. People survive, but did you spend all that money on airplane tickets and 3-6 months rent just to "survive" in obodo oyinbo?

The second most important skill is "How to live frugally". Save 30% of your income after tax for a rainy day. NO MATTER WHAT. You don't need the latest phone, or more than two $20 purses. Otherwise, you'll become like most middle-class Americans: working paycheck to paycheck to pay bills and service debts, with no end in sight.

Best of luck!

Mrpojj:
It normal for church to ban her, did she expect to carry pregnancy and be singing to the members? As an unmarried girl?
The irony is that the pastor and choirmaster are likely the most frequent disturbers of ladies. But that aside...

People make mistakes. Live and let live. Even if you feel someone slipped up, the Church should be the one place you are forgiven and tolerated, not outcast. The entire tenent of Christianity is about forgiveness and redemption. Jesus would not have banned her, based on what we've read about him.

So ALL these people bashing here her did not kiss, handle, and/or have sex in secondary school or early uni? Really?

I mean: how can you say she brought shame to her family and church, for doing the same thing we all did/do? Because she got pregnant? Ironically, that's when her family, Church, and friends should be giving her the most support.

Now that she's raised her child and is successful, folks want to start loving her.

My singular warning for my daughters is:

"Attraction is natural, sex is natural, and babies are a natural outcome. However, children are hard work, expensive, and a 24 hour responsibility. Ideally you should be in a position to take care of your child, which usually means having enough income, and/or and a dedicated partner who can share the burden. Being pregnant doesn't guarantee the father will stay, and many girls have had to raise a child on their own, so be wise".

No need for threats of fire and brimstone... just a simple logical explanation to guide them.

Stop shifting goal post, your argument was that scientist don't believe in Christ i.e all of them believe in Evolution theory, which is wrong. EOD.
Here's an except from an article which echoes my understanding about what scientists accept:
https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2009/07/09/section-5-evolution-climate-change-and-other-issues/

Nearly all scientists (97%) say humans and other living things have evolved over time – 87% say evolution is due to natural processes, such as natural selection. The dominant position among scientists – that living things have evolved due to natural processes – is shared by only about third (32%) of the public.
How that acceptance gels with the individual scientist's religious belief (e.g. their belief in Christ) is not for me to say, and I've never claimed anybody does or does not believe in Christ.

However, if you study the record (fossils, existing animals, dna, etc), the patterns appear in-line with the theory of Evolution. On the other hand, the evidence doesn't fall in line with the creation stories in religious sources from Jerusalem, Cairo, Mexico, Ile Ife, etc. These human-centric creation myths all say humans were specially created (of course they all would; dolphin-centric narratives would probably hold that dolphins were specially created). The appearance of parallels (e.g. first a Big Bang of "let there be light", then waters, land, plants, animals, then humans), makes one realize that creation narratives are just earlier theories... humans best attempts to rationalize Creation. Depending on who's talking, their version is Religion, and all others are myths.

One thing I don't understand is: if the divinely-inspired Bible explains creation to an audience 6,000 years ago, why do people refuse to believe that God is now divinely-inspiring scientists to explain creation to an arguably more modern audience (one that is exposed to calculus, chemistry, physics, and so on). It's like, the way you'd explain things to a 6 year old is way simpler than how you'd explain it to a 26 year old, but the 26 year old is refusing to upgrade their understanding, because it expands beyond what they learned at 6.

Humans existed for millions of years before they could read or write. There is evidence of tools, bones, and other artifacts that are far older than any written records. Before religion (esp. Abrahamic religion) came around to explain how things came to be, life had been evolving for over 3 billion years (and not 6 days), which is a generally accepted scientific understanding.

It's not the same people who laid cables for transmission that said the earth is flat. There are different arms of science. Ben Carson, who's a good and well known doctor probably has no idea what goes on in space. That's cause that's not his field. He deals in medicine and surgery. Someone who's a mechanical engineer, civil engineer etc. can be good in their field and have no idea what goes on in space. Radio frequency, transmission is mainly done by telecommunications engineers, and has nothing to do with space science, astronomy etc. I minored in it, so I know.

I'm an atheist, and the big bang theory and theory of evolution are absolute bullshit. You don't need to believe in God to see through the bias. I've meet some other atheist/agnostics who share the same view both online (on Quora, Tumblr) and offline.

That you think the theories are true doesn't make you smarter than any other persons, whether religious or irreligious. IQ TEST DON'T MEAN MUCH IN THE REAL WORLD. Just the same way you can't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, or judge humans but how well they perform in the classroom. You also can use IQ test as a valid measure of intelligence.
1. I specifically said: "The people that laid these cables and fired these satellites are telling you the Earth is round"... in other words, they have circumnavigated the globe in the course of their work... so dismissing their claims needs more than handwaving: do your own work and provide repeatable evidence that the Earth is flat.

2. What I'm addressing is people discounting the expert in their own field: e.g. a non-space scientist claiming that the space-scientist is wrong about the Earth being round; a non-telecoms engineer telling the telecoms expert that their ideas about radio waves and the speed of light is wrong; a non-paleontologist dismissing the findings of an expert on radio-dating and fossils. If one feels so strongly that the expert is wrong, kindly provide your own evidence. And no, religious books don't count... for we can also use the Yoruba creation narrative involving a hen and some sand; one myth is as good as another.

3. The BigBang and Evolution are theories (as you rightly state). They are the current best rationalizations of how things came to be. Time has shown that theories are proven right, wrong, or refined, so who knows. Dismissing them because they don't seem plausible... well come up with something better and logical, that makes sense. That's the challenge.

4. The theories you learn (in the classroom, journals, etc), are often very useful in the field. You can't build rockets to propel objects into orbit or to another planet without understanding orbital mechanics, chemistry, (and nowadays) relativity. Let's not conflate "street smarts and social intelligence" with "taking a theory, and deriving practical uses from it".

One theory that "doesn't make sense" is time dilation based on speed: in summary go fast enough and your clock will tick faster speed (relative to a different person standing still). Clocks on GPS satellites are designed to tick 38 microseconds slower per day than on Earth to account for this. Practice, based on theory.

Nobody has all the answers, so my request is for non-experts on a topic to at least give the experts some benefit of the doubt that they know what they're talking about.

we still waiting for ape to transform to human as they claim. Till then, spare me the bull shit
The correct statement is that apes and humans share common ancestry, but they have both diverged in evolutionary terms into their current forms. Just as you can look at all cats (lions, tigers, panthers, pumas), and surmise that they evolved from some common creature.

Going further, the theory suggests that all mammals share common ancestry; in fact all creatures with backbones share a common ancestry, and so on.

The existence of a book (written by humans less than 6,000 years ago), does not invalidate the strong scientific basis for this theory. I am careful to use the word "theory" because none of us can claim anything as fact. We look at the evidence, and try to rationalize it.

It was once rationalized in many cultures/religions that thunder was caused by a supernatural being. To people it was a very real, omnipresent god who must be worshipped and not angered. Now we understand it's the noise made by lightning ripping through air; and lightning is caused by electron flow between massive charged bodies (cloud-cloud or cloud-ground). We see evidence of this even in static electricity.

By that same token it's my hope that the (to me) irrational belief in the supernatural author of the Bible, and stories within, will someday be regarded with a little bemusement by future humans - the way we smile today about other religions that have come and gone.

Stop acting like an ignoramus, their are scientist who believe in Christ, not all scientists believe in evolution.
I didn't mention evolution, though I accept it as a valid theory - certainly more valid than the stories of one religion's book - accepted by the same scientists who believe in Christ. On face value the Old Testament's story of creation is no more or less valid than the Egyptians' or the Yoruba's.

What I did say is that scientists have shown evidence that the Earth is round, is much older than religious texts would have you believe, and it was once populated by dinosaurs. What I also said is anybody refuting these claims should come forth with their own scientific evidence that the Earth is flat, very young, and didn't have dinosaurs.

These words you typed, went over a satellite (or maybe undersea cable) to get into the Internet. The people that laid these cables and fired these satellites are telling you the Earth is round, and the speed of light is thus. They are also the type who can tell how old a fossil is. I don't think discounting their findings without solid evidence otherwise is progressive.

Science is all about providing proof and repeatable experiments. If somebody can provide evidence that the Earth is flat, or dinosaurs are only 6000 years old, well, they are welcome to do so - not just wave their hands and claim that they know better.

Not necessary, but for 20-30k, I feel it removes a whole class of problems from the building in the future, and we're seeing best practices being used in all oga's constructions.
