I don't know why folks are celebrating "the masses". It's not the masses that invest or employ people. How many poor people have helped anybody (either by employing them, investing in them, building factories, or starting companies that improve people's lives)? Power to the people, but I think this "victory of the masses" rings hollow - the same people who are voting in another 4 years of mediocrity are the same ones who will be complaining about lack of jobs or opportunities. Oh, and the "man of the masses" - his people are busy driving expensive toys, wearing expensive outfits, visiting exotic places, and staying abroad for months on end for earache, while those who vote for him will resort to begging for alms. And you know what's even more annoying, is this willful suspension of critical thought, that makes people pretend that there's a difference between APC and PDP: they are all the same carpet crossers; switching sides and making coalitions - and in some cases endorsing known looters for governor - in order to promote their own self-interests. What makes you think Buhari, Tinubu, or even Oshiomole give a crap about the common man? Some notable swindles by the President: "I won't pay subsidy" "What is office of First Lady"? "No medical tourism" "We don't need so many presidential jets" "Public declaration of assets and liabilities" - Still hasn't revealed his assets (which is very suspicious), yet was quick to dismiss CJN for having property abroad "Expanding the economy" ... and so much more. Not 1 of these has happened, and now there's no need to pretend because this is his final term. Well done to "the masses" |
OP, you gather 4.5Million and you want to use it to become boy boy in Australia? You know that with that cash put in timed deposit, you could be getting 450k annually (at 10%) in most banks? I'm not going to go into other ways you could make that money work for you. Let's assume the best situation: Your trip will cost almost 1M. (about 700k for plane fare and visa). Living expenses will be at least 400k/month (I just did a rough estimate based on costs from https://sydney.edu.au/study/finances-fees-costs/living-costs.html). So 4.5M will last you about 8 months, within which you've found a job, and you - like most (honest) Nigerians who ran to the diaspora - will spend the rest of your life barely getting by, and probably saving just enough to travel home once every 5 years. Soon you will add wife and children to your expenses - their health, feeding, and education, and perhaps a 20-30 year mortgage on a house. If you're diligent enough, you may be able to save enough to build a house in Naija, but when you visit in 10-15 years, you will see most of your mates have become big men after working their way up, or running businesses, while you're still earning just enough to live. I know many people who regret their move abroad, but I understand... Naija is very frustrating. Business is not straightforward, even farming is so risky these days: if it's not disease, it's vandalism where your entire crop is burned. |
judedave181:Chai... na joke oh... it's comic strip and the guy is obviously playing along. For all you know dem be padi from uni days. maynia:Yes, because a Nigerian man can slap his Nigerian employees here in Nigeria and nothing will happen, so why should it be different if it's a Chinese or Indian man slapping Nigerian employees? That's an issue with the Nigerian environment. If you know cases where American or Chinese bosses can slap their employees in America without repercussions, please let us know. |
OP, Somebody was making posts about how the North thinks they need to hold on to power because they don't have giants of commerce, industry, education, etc, so power was all they could. https://www.nairaland.com/5046825/north-never-told-us-not I found it sad that instead of Northern leaders emulating the well-proven examples of other societies and peoples around the world - emphasizing education and empowering their children so that they too can become giants of commerce, industry, science and technology - they prefer to keep them shackled in poverty and oppression, using religious dogma as the chains. I'm not even sure what their purpose is - I would assume everyone would want their people to progress and be successful. The government that was re-elected is part of that Northern elite that produces the vast number of beggars who have been disenfranchised since birth; denied education; denied vaccinations (which would eradicate all the cases of polio and other such diseases); denied self-determination. If I have 200 Naira, I will use it to buy chalk for my local schools in Asaba, rather than give it to a class of people who insist on empowering the very same people that are the source of their predicament. If they need alms, they should refer to their elite in the North - the ones with billion-naira weddings in Dubai, who line the walls of their homes with gold, and wear the finest threads while holding $105,000 purses. |
Dronedude:Abi oh... maybe she bought it abroad, and they gave her cents, and she's converting price. The picture looks like outside Naija sha. But tell me why I was looking at those curves for so long... that's the appeal of a good surgery. |
Abeg, me too I will collect. Do you know how much a bag of rice is? For most people, this is the best they will get from that governor for 4 years... collect rice and vote your conscience. After all the rice was bought with public funds. |
Ahh, at last, back to our favorite activity... butchering snakes and posting on Nairaland. ![]() Glad that whole election thing is behind us. Where are my twerkers and slay mamas? |
I expect this administration to go on administrative leave in London for the next 18 months. |
AjalaJ:Are you joking? Isn't this the evidence? |
grandstar: 0monnak0da:Poor man mentality. Instead of planning how to create and own factories that create luxury cars, clothes, and lifestyles, you're just wasting money and making those luxury brands even richer. Smart. Not. In 1960s, Nigerians were abusing Japanese products. In 1980s we were abusing Korean products. In 2010s we're abusing Chinese products. For 70 years, none of our people buying and posing with expensive foreign made things has thought: "maybe we should get to a stage where we're abusing Nigerian products, but can look forward to when Nigerian products would be desirable". |
Nice... already making yourself sick in the new Buhari era... great start. I suppose that's how we'll all look after the next four years. |
mekaboy: deomelo:But that's exactly what it means: this government has a penchant for borrowing - instead of growing. Also, bonds rise because investors are seeking safety, meaning they're pulling money from stocks and other growth assets. That's not something to be happy about. |
I don't see it. Four years from now, more of these senators and governors will enter their 70s, and that's who we will foolishly chose from. We are not ready for youth in this country. ![]() |
Donmedra:Read that again. During Jonathan, people had a fair chance, because he believed in rule of law. This is Buhari, who BTW exchanged CJN on the eve of elections and stacked the bench with his people. I'd say Atiku better go on a long vacation and forget this charade. |
Congratulations sir! Please enjoy your restful stay in London. No need to lie about your health, just leave Osinbajo in charge and take off for as long as you want. 45 months would suit us just fine ![]() |
Waste of time. See the collation? They are in line with expectations: PMB kicking ass in North, cleaning up in most of the middle belt, slight marginal losses in SW, and even though rejected by SE and SS (minus Edo), those numbers don't add up to Kano or Jigawa. Congrats to PMB... not the results I was predicting, but Atiku should just concede and not waste peoples lives. |
freemanbubble:Happiness is where you find it and where you make it, my brother... this particular guy you're talking about... he too will marry somebody else's ex... And even if you say: "enh he can marry a virgin", that's no guarantee of happiness in the home - he may end up unknowingly raising kids who are not his, because his "virgin" decided to play outside small. As for me I was thinking, why are we men not satisfied with one woman? See a perfect package (at least physically), yet after 6 months, we will start trying to sample another tin. |
Samirana360:Buhari is leading by about 2.5 million votes, and people are here celebrating a state with 50,000 margin and using the word "floored". I'm assuming the data here is current and official: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-f0b25208-4a1d-4068-a204-940cbe88d1d3 As of 6:30PM Kano and Jigawa just added an additional 1.4million votes in PMB's favor. I don't think there are even that number of voters in the remaining southern states that have yet to be declared. Once Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto declare, I'm calling this a re-election for PMB. Congrats. (Of course I'm irritated that I have to look at BBC and not INEC's website for actual results). I don't want PMB to win, but I have to support the data on hand. The next four years go hard sha... who wants to bet PMB is already planning his extended stay in London? |
stephleena:Erm... Buhari won Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti decisively. Osun by narrow margins. Even in the states Atiku won, the victories were narrow to slim (see Oyo). Didn't want PMB to win, but it appears the SW voted for him enthusiastically. |
SteveJenkins:Funny... I thought Trump was voted for by xenophobe white Americans who feared about immigrants, losing business to China, and were angry about the Black man in power the previous 8 years, and would be dammed if they voted in a woman with more experience in government. |
Space bookers, una well done oh! ![]() But anyways, I wanted to say I like the level of maturity displayed in Lagos (apart from a few isolated incidents). No need to die or wound yourself for politician who won't even buy you pure water for your troubles. |
batb:Agreed. |
Racoon:There might be irregularities, but the margins are so large that it's hard to see how the numbers could be cooked up. Atiku got his ass handed to him in the SW (and even Oyo the margin is so slim it might well not count). He got decent margins in the SS, and won handily in some SE states (as expected), but got absolutely trounced in the entire North and middle belt. He just managed to eke out a win in his own home state. The votes we expected him to split in the north did not split... did you see how Yobe just chased him out with 9%? These results indicate that a vast majority of Nigerians rejected Atiku. I don't want PMB to win, but Atiku is no saint, and people saw through his facade to reveal the true (corrupt?) person underneath. I could also feel these results from listening with my ear on the ground in the weeks up to the elections - not via online polls. So instead of getting all heated up for politicians who don't give a damn about who dies for their cause, let's all unite, welcome our re-elected president, then get ready for the reality that the next 4 years are going to be shitty. |
People shouldn't vote governors into the senate... |
I don't want Buhari to win, but from all indications so far, he is handily winning, and we have to accept that fact. Nigerians have spoken, and I heartily welcome the results - even if I don't like them. The margins are too wide, and I feel they reflect the true choices of Nigerians. The last thing we need is any type of division or talk of parallel government. FFK will not be there to save anybody's life with his own. If anything, he should be arrested for inciting violence and insurrection. |
... and somehow "educating and empowering our children up North so that they too can become giants of commerce, industry, science and technology" doesn't appear to be an option. That's just sad. |
I've never seen an entire press release that didn't say anything. What were the preconditions and how were they met? Don't Anyways, I think IPOB did more harm than good... how many people didn't collect PVC or made other plans? And now those votes will be lost. The more they waffle, the more they will lose people's support. |
TIGRITIS:Interesting choice of analogy... more like: "your tenure will set, as sure as the setting of the sun, on Saturday"... ![]() We all know as soon as elections are over, PMB will not be seen in public again - whether or not he wins elections. London calls, you know. But let me be the first to say "Bye Baba. I can't say it hasn't been fun with you at the helm... cuz it hasn't" (I'm just talking trash oh... neither PMB no Atiku give two sh!ts about me personally) |
Business ventures are not guaranteed/sure. That's why they are called (ad)ventures. That said, real estate... continuing building though it's been hard to find tenants this past 6 months. The best other "business" in this Buhari era is just fixed deposits where you're guaranteed interest with very little risk. Lost so much in other businesses, so I'm waiting to see the results of elections first. |
All I can say is, I've noticed, the more religious a person, the darker their deeds. And schizophrenic too. ![]() |
Yes oh... I can't wait to waka to my polling place and say "Bye Baba" |
I thought they said Edo was locked down for APC? ![]() |
