Now I know a lot of Nairalanders seem not to be okay at all. Lots of crazy people roaming about SM these days.

How can ones parents not have a concrete answer to the whereabouts of their grandchild left in their care, if this is not absolute madness I don't know what it is.

Dead or alive they should tell you where she is.
Education › Re: How Private School Owners In Nigeria Deprive Their Teachers Of Rest by NoToPile: 7:21pm On Aug 29, 2023
BreconHills:
No two schools are alike. And you need to see things from the perspective of both the employee and the school. My wife owns a 300 child pre and primary school on the mainland so I think I can give some perspective here.

Our teachers are paid a full salary through the holidays - in fact teachers received pay throughout covid 19 because we have a robust online platform and we parents could pick up free fun activity flash drives and drop off hard copy assignments in decontaminated containers.

Most schools run summer schools. Parents continue to work through the holidays and many of them need/desire that their children are engaged. Most summer schools are "learning through fun" oriented. So topics are like painting, robotics, tie and dye, dance. We even got a nollywood director and shot a 15 minute film that's on the internet. It's fun.

If you don't run summer school your parents will take them somewhere else thst does - so you have to be thick or incredibly unstrategic to not have a good summer school.

Teachers get 2.5 weeks off on a rota basis. Some non teaching staff have had the whole summer off. Our teachers come in three days before commencement to decorate their classes. They are paid in full throughout.

Regarding salary, it really depends on where you are, your cost base and the kind of fees you can charge. Entry level teachers start here on 80k and senior teachers are on 150k plus 60% of private lesson done on premise. If they have extra curricular skills we keep that income in house and pay the teacher. Our post subsidy pay rise is between 10-30k depending on tenure. This excludes 100% HMO for all staff. Our head teacher earns 200k plus end of year bonus. And believe me we are not the highest salary payers.

I think it's grossly unfair to tar all private schools with the same brush. There are many good school owners out there and of course each teacher has to evaluate the school before taking employment. If the terms are onerous become a private lesson teacher or find another school or career line. Simple.

Modified: some of our teachers teach our Japa pupils online and get paid in USD. We are fully aware and they keep 100% of such revenue. In these modern times, teachers must be dynamic and innovative. Not to add that with the UK visa policy it is an avenue to travel and work abroad.
Sir it's not this type of private schools the OP is talking about. HMO loun loun, these schools refuse to pay salary as at when due.

You treat your teachers well, No teacher from your school will lament like the OP.

Lots of variables are involved in these our times.

The major concern is the security situation these days, lots of touch and follow people around.

If not for security matter it's not even an issue.

Lots of under 7 year olds still go to school themselves here in Lagos and lots of us still take our children to school so it depends.

I would prefer the kids doing their chores at and then take them out to buy things on shops in the street.

Hypocritical Nairaland men on display as usual.

The same people that say their wife is not their family are talking.

If you cannot write whatever legal name she's bearing on the documents then there really is no point.

Kuku keep the money because chances are that whether you write it in her name, their name or whatever, anytime your wife talks too much it will be shey it's because it's your brother that bought the car, if she say he should not drive it same thing. You know he doesn't have a car and most Nigerian men and ego are like 5 and 6

Nigerian men and their ego that remains in Nigeria when traveling abroad.

Instead of you to tell Nigerian men to work of themselves, they don't have money lasan like this they must frustrate the hell out of the wife's life, if it's not the man it's his family.

If she succeeds lasan, she has used his glory / destiny.
If she coughs it's beacsue she's providing
If she yawns it's because she's providing.

The major problem is that most Nigerian men feel useless without money, Money is the only thing a lot of them can bring so without that money they feel helpless and useless, full of rage and looking for who to pour aggressions on. OP tell the men to work on that.

You think the women too don't have emotions that need to be pampered. She's providing and won't even have peace of mind while at it.

Point it a lot of Nigerian men turn monsters overnight when they don't have money. Shikena.
Family › Re: My Wedding In Few Weeks Time Is About To Crash, Please Help Me!!! by NoToPile:
The problem here is that 300k sounds big but it would comfortably cater for very basic no of guests.

5 crates of can malt itself is about 30k for less than 100 people
Rice half bag is like 20k
Semo half bag

Meat nko even if it's 1 lap of cow

Before you buy the orishirishi to join 300k don finish oo. My point is party is too expensive nowadays. It's not like they want to rip you off or overcharging you. It's a very fair price for food.

If you wanna cook anything these days it's money, money and more money.

SO

You guys should go to registry and let them do the engagement/ traditional in her father's parlor, take quality photographs, ensure you bring the list of items required for the engagement and make una rest.

Tell them THERE IS NO MONEY

Na people wey don over chop belleful do party with canopy these days.

Now on a more serious note, you should be able to comfortably cover Court expenses and outfits without complaining about it this much.
Now you have not even bought engagement list, the most important part of the wedding. You guys should do it in the parlor ooo. Now that you have paid half for hall what happens.

Talk with one of your inlaws, the dad or the mum, explain that transport from ondo to kaduna is taking a whole lot from you and you can't afford all those stuffs. Don't form oo. You didn't even need to ask how much they were contributing out of the 300k in the first place. Diplomacy is key. Don't buga for them tell them as it is, they will understand.

Also talk with your wife, I personally think these discussions shouldn't be holding now weeks to the wedding.

Besides which one is engagement and reception again is it not when they are doing the engagement and at some point they start serving food during the same engagement.

It's all those ribbons our mothers use to pack our hair when going to birthdays with fine dresses and shoes and lace trimmed socks we will jump up and down in the name of dancing shikena.

These days it's almost looking like an abomination for girls to wear dresses.

Family › Re: I Am So Worried About My 5-year Old Son by NoToPile: 9:18am On Aug 22, 2023
edoncast:
He is even good in mathematics .We have been on this matter till today and my ex made an excuse that the problem was his former school cos they dont teach them phonetics and all that shits in English .

The boy is sound in mathematics because i had myself put him to test and he did well but the deficiency is in English .

He can write and pronounce 2 letter words perfectly and also he is trying with 3 letter words but he cant read long sentence like my younger sister son who is just 3 months older than him who is already in Basic 2
The bolded is the reason why he should go back, some schools even have nursery 3/ pre-primary/ reception (depending on what they want to call it) after Nursey 2. Since that school is moving to Basic 1 directly from nursery 2, I suspect they are incorporating some of the preprimary stuff in the children's curriculum.

The foundation of education is very important, you said he's trying with 3 letter words, I think a child should be able to do that effortlessly and read basic sentences before moving to primary 1. It's very important he gets it right once it's wrong the child will struggle with reading and comprehension.

I am not a teacher oo, just a parent that have children that have passed and still passing through the process.

Also don't compare your son with your sisters son, she is a teacher and has likely drilled the boy, he mostlikely has been with his mother not moved up and down you stated your boy was been moved from one place to another do you think those things don't affect children.

Get a stable home for him, enroll him with a good school, your sister can also help brush him up and see your child perform wonders. You can correct that anomaly now, your son will thank you for it.

He will still enter secondary school by 10, the foundation is the most important.

Family › Re: I Am So Worried About My 5-year Old Son by NoToPile: 6:11am On Aug 21, 2023
That age is still okay for Nursey 2.
He is still groom able.

Let your sis enroll him in Nursey 2 by next year he will move to Basic 1 at 6 years.

If your sister who is a teacher has assessed him and his suggesting Nursey 2, let him stay there, within 1 year he's going to do all this writing and reading stuff. Don't move him to Basic 1.

The foundation is important, if he can't get simple addition and few letter words right, he has no business going to primary 1.

By next September you would be impressed if he's well handled in a good school.

New yam that people will be rushing and bending to pick 600, 700, 800 is what they are calling price for this year.

This next set I bought 2k each I just dey wonder.

The Irony of the matter is the main proponents of this matter are Yorubas in Ilorin.
It's purely a religious matter, we know that if any form of religious intolerance will start among Yorubas it's will definitely start from Ilorin. They can be very fanatical, they have history.

I don't understand the brand of religion they are practicing that is different from the other Yorubas that are Muslims in the in the southwest.

The challenge is even the police cannot guarantee the security of the Isesee worshipers.

But 3000 liters is a lot can't you guys share the tank pending when you can get another for the tenant, even if it's 2 tenants you all can still use it.

So share your current tank with them do the renovations and let it out at 180k then you can now buy a tank much later from funds realized if you still want to but that 3k tank should be enough for you guys.

You want to collect monthly rent in Naija, when it's not a short let apartment you are on your own. DO NOT TRY IT, IT'S A RECEIPE FOR DISASTER LOTS OF NIGERIANS DON'T LIKE PAYING. They will start telling you sebi it's only 20k I am owing for this month. The only reason why some landlords have a bit of respite is because once they collect the one years rent, they know the battle is till the next year. No try am.
