GloryIsaac:I saw it all in the boarding house. Virtually every hostel had at least one bully, usually a senior student. The house masters did very little beyond a warning. Interestingly, every student adjusted to it one way or another until the senior year. |
Apart from name calling, taunting, and physical rough-handling, I regard deprivation also as bullying. Or what do you think of some senior students or a few bad boys in the dormitory depending on junior students' beverages and other personal possessions. Refusal to bring your tea, milk, sugar, etc attracts punishment, usually kneeling down in his/her corner, or get under the bed. It is difficult to do, but if the child can ignore the name calling and taunting, that's best solution because the bullying stops if it does not produce the desired effect. Seriously, the house masters, teachers, principals, headmasters , and the PTA all have a big role to play in stopping the bullying. This is especially if they act on every reported case, investigate and punish accordingly, including expulsion. After everything, the best thing to do to minimise the effect of bullying is to prepare the child's mind in a way that does not scare or raise fear. Tell him or her what happens (not to every child, anyway) and when and who to report if it becomes persistent or aggravated. Parents should also go to the school, if need be, to "chat" with the school authority. Give a stern warning if you can against further molestation. |
Could somebody please explain to me, what is the purpose of the sweat shirt? Has the university now taken up the responsibility of clothing the students? I think it would wise if every uni has a Parents University Association ( similar to PTAs in primary and secondary schools) to monitor and vet what the students pay for. |
imagine the Hostel in OAU and that of Cambridge The difference dey very clear. Good study and hygienic environment.. Regular water, regular power supply plus free internet service 24/7. How you wan compete with them. Most technical colleges in the U.S are far more equipped than our universities. Not that we can't be like those, but our greedy leaders and policy makers will not allow us. |
Boring:And anything that makes you look good. Some fashion rules are like slavery. Who made them, anyway? |
It is not enough to say a particular fashion sense is unacceptable... Sometimes these fashion dos and donts do not have rational explanation. Could the OP please explain. I am curious. I still query why wearing a shirt with a short sleeve shirt is fashion blunder. Who made the rule? I have seen lots of people, even uni lecturers, who wore ties with short sleeves and they looked very smart. In fact , the combo gives sharper looks than long sleeves. |
Titilayooni:Wow!! I never thought of your second choice. That's the most mature, creative, and romantic way I have ever heard or seen. Imagine when you are deeply asleep, the quietly manipulates the ring onto your finger. What on Earth could be more pleasantly surprising when you wake up to feel something strange on that finger Then he goes...the gospel according to... I have this hunch that most men who happen to read your comment will copy it. Don't rule out that your Sweetie may see it, too. Good luck. |
Hello everyone... Please I posted this thread after an extensive reflection on the topic. I had expected mature inputs from readers, not these poisonous exchanges. Or is this a reflection of the kind of people who visit the Romance section? Please get back to the issue.. Thanks. |
janvier27:I totally agree with you.. She should kick the man out like hell. |
Schwartz:Noted.. Sounds like my measure is a bit harsh. |
Greene66:At least you hold an opinion. That's the most important thing. |
mapet:Early hours of the morning is the best time to watch movies/TV, especially if you won't be working during the day. Complex movies become very easy to understand. A friend said same thing to me and it is true. |
While the the possessions you mentioned would lure most ladies to a man, they wouldn't move a lady who is more interested in a husband material. If the man is monster, he will only attract monster ladies who are interested in what they can get from him in the short term. Most decent ladies know that it is only a matter of time before the men of their choice acquire those items provided they are hardworking. I have heard of men leading false lives borrowing friends cars and clothes and hosing women in their apartments. Ladies beware... |
FlawlesRebirth02:Nothing person no go see for here.. It is totally not possible... Both reflexes cannot operate at the same time. OP must be a juvenile. |
The media is awash with pictures and videos of men proposing marriage to women in various manners. Most of these are dramatic and sometimes outlandish. Question is: Ladies, how would you like your man propose to you? Is in the quietness of the bedroom, when two of you are in bed(not necessarily)? Would you prefer the restaurant with everybody watching or the middle of the highway with all vehicles stopping for you? Isn't that exercise supposed to solemn, when the man asks a very important question of his life? Are those fanfare really necessary? |
I don't advise that you disconnect from her totally but you need to do the following: 1. Stop having your food sent to you at home. Go to the restaurant in person to eat. 2. Stop picking odd hour calls from her. If you must do, steer the conversation to productive topics. Keep it short. 3. Try cooking regularly on your own. This will minimize your going to her mom's restaurant to eat. |
Most pastors are overstepping their bounds by interfering in family matters, especially marriage. Who is he to dictate when and who a female, even male, Church member marries? Our people say that a woman has no Church until she is married. This is because the lady eventually will, and is expected to, attend the husband's Church. Unless she does not really love her suitor, otherwise she should leave the Church. Or is Pastoring in that Church the only thing she can do? |
Let me react to some responses here, hoping the OP will see it: To those blaming the man for getting a dirty lady pregnant, I will say that pregnancy has nothing to do with the issue at hand. She could have gotten pregnant before they stayed/lived together. "Put it in prayer" is hardly a solution to a real problem such as this. One response advised as above plus cooking her meals and washing her clothes and buying her new ones... I am like...seriously...for an adult female and mother. I will definitely flow with those who said the man was not under compulsion to marry her. What good is a woman who sends her child to school dirty, allows her toilet to go brown from white, can't keep the house clean? I frown at such habits when I go to other people's houses, much more marrying the person.. It is a red flag for me. |
Thanks for the info. I use AVG and Avast Free Antivirus but the issue is the protection is usually for a limited period, usually 30 days. Unless one upgrades, one is not likely to get all the features. What I do is alternate between the two while waiting to renew my Bullguard. On a side note, how would you rate Bullguard Internet Security? My subscription just expired and I am wondering whether to switch to AVG upgraded. Having been with Bullguard since 2010, I now get 60% discount. AVG will cost more . |
Is this a new development? Does your son have only one teacher? If not, is this attitude displayed only to a particular teacher. Problem might be teacher-related, assuming the boy is is not new in the school You need to gain the confidence of your son and interview him closely. Maybe take him out and buy him ice cream, then "attack." |
alizma:Thanks for the explanation.. But I thought there are moderators here, who have set guidelines on which thread moves to the front page. By which yardstick is the individual calling on Lalasticlala to move a thread to the FP doing so? I have no qualms against a useful thread making FP, but some are overdoing it; most times, for ridiculous posts. |
Gist me more about it. |
There are many sections on Nairaland dealing with matters related to the section name. Although most people browse through, not all sections get the same focus and attention. When you spend more time on Romance than on Religion, what exactly are you looking for? Do the sections we visit most say something about who we are? My most visited sections are: Family: Commands traffic of more mature people and comments. Issues are topical and relevant. I guess visitors here are either married, about to marry, or simply love the exchanges. There is a lot to learn here. Properties: Domain of contractors, builders, dealers, men already in the process of building their houses or gathering momentum. I love this section for the practical advice it gives. Rarely will you see "Let me book space, I am coming" type of comment in this section. I get ideas from here that help me with my project. Car Talk: If you have a car with a problem, you would like to know whether others have similar issue and how they solved it. Car owners and people intending to buy a car go here. I get and share ideas here with people who have my kind car issues. Technology: I go here for DIYs. Sometime in 2006 or so , there was a thread/discussion on Free to Air (FTA) Satellite system that caught my interest. Recently, it was Solar Energy System. Only serious-minded people visit here. Romance: I go here mostly to see what people generally are up to in matters of the heart and to see what they are doing differently. The good, the bad, and the ugly posts appear here. Majority sound fabricated- like folk tales. Usually, I scan through and only genuine posts get my attention and responses. Posts in the Music section do not go beyond "What music are you listening to now and why?" I close then just as fast.... Tell us how it is with you. |
Irishrena1:Name true you talk.. Honestly, 3 is small... If you remove Saturday and Sunday, for example, when most people dey house, na 2 days be that already... Lol... |

It is not by luck at all. First, you have to convince yourself the type of wife you want, i.e., the qualities you are looking for in her. It is with this blueprint that you screen the multitude of potential wives, refusing to fall for anyone that falls short. In my own case, I met lots of flashy, beautiful ladies but I refused to be entangled because they did not satisfy my yardstick. I was looking for one at least moderately intelligent, not careless with organising the home, easily adaptable to city and non-city dwelling. Somebody that was not high maintenance and could manage resources when they are not plentiful. Some may say women hide their true colour but, unless one does not study his woman very well, it is difficult not to see beyond that camouflage. Sometimes people will tell you that a particular lady will make a good wife for you. Over a dozen people said same to me although I had long made up my mind she was the one. Same goes for the ladies. |
Back to the topic. .. Sex between couples happens spontaneously. . Creating a timetable for it kills the fun. My uni teacher said the normal number of times per week a couple should have sex is 3. Some exceed 3 times. **By the way, I don't understand why the only response somebody has to offer in a thread is to call on Lalasticlala to "do the needful," "come and see this one oo o..," etc. I find them dumb. |
I saw that you just registered probably to create this post. Seriously, why did you chose New York? Do you have relatives there and, if so, they should have told you all you need to know. If you have current Visa, all you need to do is hop on the plane. Otherwise, you need to apply for a visa. In your case, the category that suits your purpose is visitor visa. If your pregnancy is advanced, your chances are slim because those officials will suspect you only want their country's citizenship. But if it is not very visible and all necessary documents are complete, you may succeed, depending on how you answer questions at the interview. Usually, 6 months months stay period will be given to you at the airport . So, if your pregnancy is, say 3 months at the time, your delivery may come as your stay ends. No problem. Problem is even if you succeed at the interview, immigration officials may refuse you entry and turn you back because your belle don dey show well well. Assuming you crossed and you have a place to stay, which you should, you need to register in a clinic as a pregnant woman. If you have enough money, no problem. Clinics are there to make money regardless of your status. I learnt that normal delivery costs upwards of $20K. American citizenship can be acquired by birth in American soil. I am not aware of any legislation nullifying that for now. This is the much I know. |
handsomeclouds:Exactly my thought. .. More like asking between the fork and spoon, which is more important. I think whoever vets/publishes NL posts needs to really needs to wake up, please. |
Beautiful is not always functional. It may look nice and exotic, but it is not suitable for floors. Reason: it is prone to cause optical illusion and cause falls. It may be tried on shop and hotel walls. Less likely at home. I won't be surprised if some people install them in their homes thinking it is hip. Just as people use glossy ceramic tiles on the floor to show affluence, not knowing it is dangerous. My opinion anyway. |
Sounds like there is a hole in the tiny pipe work. I had similar problem in the past. If your radiator still looks O.K, take it to a panel beater who will use water to locate the point of leakage and weld it it close. Before then, you need to regularly check your water level... |
If you ask me, I don't know how much a typical Nigerian fresh engineering graduate is equipped with practical know-how. It is obvious that industrialization brings opportunities for practical exposure and hands-on learning by engineering students. But with the lack of power supply and industries closing down, I wonder how/where the students get their practical immersion. Is the period of Industrial Training (IT) enough for their purpose? I also ask because I have B.Sc Mech. Eng friend who tinkers with lots of stuff, including electronics. At the same time, I have a relative, fresh with HND in MechEng, who - I don't know if it is out laziness or lack of practice - hardly shows interest in troubleshooting minor mechanical and electrical problems in the house. Why is the difference, knowing the claim that HND graduates are more practical oriented than their B.Sc counterparts. What do you think? |
