President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan stopped him. He said: That notice falls short of what the rule book says. You didn’t cite any part of our rules and I can’t tolerate it. You didn’t consult me. So, I can’t allow it. Completely out of touch... playing the fiddle while Rome burns. We have never had it this bad. A whole leader of the representative of the people this nonchalant and uncaring.... well it is our fault, we said we wanted a person who will co-operate with the Executive, meaning to agree with, co-operate with and doggedly back failure. This is the result. Nigeria will learn the ultra hard way what it means to live in and demonstrate responsibility in a democratic nation. |
Self preservation should be the first consideration in a robbery emergency. You run into an armed ambush never try to resist or escape. Never try to escalate the situation, aggravate or startle the assailants. They are already stressed, perhaps on edge courtesy of drugs and will be on a hairs trigger. Just raise your hands and gently go down into a prone position to neutralize the initial danger. That is the best chance of survival. |
My kind of place. Absolutely resent overcrowding and the squalor and environmental damage it causes. |
nedekid:When goverments in other climes borrow to fund infrastructure in hard times as a tool of general economic development they target specIfic industries that EXIST and are functioning but have probably fallen on hard times. These infrastructural investments do two things, they help lower cost of production making them more competitive and secondly they create direct jobs where the infrastructure is built by local enterprises or by direct labour. But when your borrowings are for frontier, exploratory businesses where you have no experience, no track record of successes and on top of that the expenditure is essentially offshore such that materials, men and means will create all the jobs overseas then where is the benefit. If I wrote a proposal for a loan to establish some high flying business which I had very limited knowledge or experience in when I was employed and earning good salary, that could be considered as risk averse, But if I then lost my job the risk of borrowing to invest in such novelty increases astronomically and it will be better I either wait to get my personal financial situation sorted first or I borrow to invest in what I do know, what I presently do and what guarantees me success. As a matter of fact no right thinking bank will lend me money for an exploratory, frontier business when I have no income or just scratching for a living. And that is why it is only the Chinese and their cohorts that agreed to give us the money for this sad journey of financial misadventure we have undertaken this past six years. They just do not care about the welfare of the Nigerian people, and that is because they are not a democracy, their own government is a pseudo autocracy where no one cautions them. The railway has no immediate economic benefit, we have no track record of success in it and its deployment holds scant benefits in job creation or small business stimulus, so why pay top dollar for it when we were in recession, leaving like you say the more important investments of refinery re/development which will have saved the six and a half trillion to be spent on subsidies this year and over 20 trillion spent since 2015. Where have you seen such madness practiced anywhere else in this world. |
When it was borrowing time for so called glorified infrastructure many here were chanting. Let them come and tell us now how this infrastructure has helped or will help the Nigerian economy. Borrowings that has inflated the naira causing devastating poverty and fuelling insecurity that makes the infrastructure moribund. Government of contractors, by contractors and for contractors. Here we are. |
Hmmm, next ting is medical tourism for this certain incaution. |
Khaleefa1804:Honestly, this should be if democracy works well. For the metrics, yardsticks and statistics used in removing the PDP as underperforming have all been attained and exceeded with this government. The APC is simply unelectable at the moment, and that is why they had to resort to primordial sentiment of ethnicity and religion. |
Sowiki:Are they more toxic than Buhari's supporters then or Tinubu's supporters right now. The fact that you can only see one angle shows bias and that you don't stand above the lot. Corrosive politicking gained ground in 2014 with the formation of the APC and we warned then on this forum that the genie was out. |
The point is that there is no guarantee United will make top four and qualify for next season's UCL. They have not bought well for near a decade and the team has been in decline for a while. I think it is beyond his endurance. He has made fame and fortune, what he now needs is a team to make more records and deliver silverware, legacy things. |
I think that is the fact. However, the predictions are for a runoff where Labour or/and the NNPP will be the deciding forces by alliances. So the demography of the 'first round will' be decisive. If the north or south (Atiku or Tinubu) has the slight edge that will determine where the smaller parties will align to push over the line. I don't think any party has enough impulse to get a majority off the blocks. |
Tade722:Then add 'against a particular tribe' or better still 'against a particular region'..... which is why we say that without restructuring, Nigeria just cannot move forward. People say corruption is the biggest problem. I then ask them, what size of a problem will you call tribal sentiment or religious polarity. |
To do what eh, completely bury them financially.... What is the old saying about never going back. This lad is like banned substances onto that club.... one good match performance and they empty the bank again and start selling their properties to 'keep him happy'. |
jamace:The outskirts of Abuja, on the Kubwa-Bwari road where they were on patrol (as reported). The concern is having a terror cell this close to the City centre, much closer than the location of the jail break on the other side of the territory. |
AK481:This is mere speculation, but if you wish I will extend the obligation. So, of course you will not stop. But if you then run into another vehicle in the process injuring or killing the occupants you will still go down for manslaughter, so. Even in desperate activities of self preservation there are consequences. The LASTMA officials are not doctors neither are they likely to have the competence to verify those claims of illness at face value. If no document (to the fact that the man was dying/terminal) they are not obliged to let him go. They did their bit in taking him to where he was going to verify certain things but their brief which included impounding the vehicle was correct. A felon taken to hospital anywhere in the world will remain in cuffs even under treatment. Sickness does not absolve anyone of obeying the law and a few minutes obeying the traffic light would have kept that man alive. His actions (of his son driving) could as well have cost lives, lives of other innocent road users. As I said earlier, the bribery allegations are the only hope of the bereaved family getting anything from that agency. |
The quality of leadership is a reflection of the collective competencies of the citizenry. Buhari was successfully elected because due diligence took the backseat to sentiment and propaganda. And it is repeating itself again with religious sentiment once again rising to the fore. I'm afraid Nigeria will suffer for it going forward and post 2023 may not look any different from the now. |
Hmmm..... so that the present governor doesn't do a Rochas on Government House even taking the cutlery in the cupboards and tissues in the John. |
Still campaigning.... till the very end..... what a government. Stuck in first gear for 7 years and revving the engine hot till total destruction. What a pity. |
Can't see what the LASTMA officials did wrong. Their legal department should be able to handle this without problem. The family of the deceased will have to prove the bribery allegations. |
Begoodtoothers:As there are State laws there will also be Federal laws. The state police will not be able to operate outside the ambit of state laws. And there should be Federal police to ensure Federal laws are respected and obeyed. There is nothing to it. Most people fear that their civil liberties will be affected by state police. But in most climes where there is a layered architecture the Federal police always has the final say. |
OkCornel:Why. To jump start the economy is very easy. Just reverse the direction this government is headed and things will begin to rebound. We are living far beyond our means. And by means I mean everything from economic means to the enormous security bills. The first thing to do is to demilitarise the country which consumes huge amounts of resources, by negotiating with dissenting groups so that what is left are criminals and terrorists. Demilitarise the south and east and sit down with farmers and herders in the middle-belt so that the focus can be on ISWAP, Boko Haram and Ansaru. Let States handle banditry because they can if they are permitted to establish State police so that the Federal Government handles cross border crime and terrorism. Secondly cut down massively the cost of governance by making MDA's revenue centres as opposed to cost centres. Such that government handles salaries and wages only, with every other bill offset by internally generated revenue. Within six months folks will be handing in their resignations and opting for early retirement. The threshold of performance in the civil service of Nigeria remains too low. Finally a phased exit from petroleum subsidy over a maximum period of 24 months to give enough time for modular refineries to come onstream and anti-inflationary programs to take hold. And most importantly, seek to put an end to 'contracting' at all levels and in all sectors in favour of investment and equity. |
stevebond007:Of course and local government police so that all these ragtag regional outfits and shadowy, amorphous vigilante groups can give way to constitutionally backed law enforcement agencies right down to the grassroots with the powers to keep the law and prosecute felons. It is impossible to serve and protect 200 million effectively from a desk in Abuja. It is reprehensible and totally unacceptable for us to operate this way in 2022. |
I like what I hear. The last line does it for me. Remove security from the exclusive list, because it is supposed to be 'everyone's business'. And make it a business, yes, security is business. Meaning that it should be a joint venture between the government and the private sector. The private sector will be the 'brains' and government will be the 'brawn'. Thereby unlocking more funding, technology, know-how and intelligence. |
cutecommend:African Snail and cold water fish I guess. Goat meat is the safest of the four legged animals but far too gamey for me.... so I pass. |
Oga, if you can prevent Christians in the north from being slaughtered at the drop of a hat in the name of protecting a certain faith then your wish is possible. But my guess is that you will not have any control over religious affairs particularly of your own faith since your party is not able to select your position based in equity. |
Like athletics, like cycling, I will wait for drug test results before saying anything. Too much egg on my face over the years. So congratulations... for now. Sorry for being so hard but that is life. |
I am really ashamed of this country.... and to think some folks find nothing wrong with the degradable way we live, rather they love it and fight tooth and nail to keep it this way is just heart breaking. This country is going down the drain and we better wake up and salvage the little that is left, of our humanity. We are not living here, just existing. |
As the only child of your parents at least you should have considered them even if you had no regards for your life. What a waste. When will our people learn to treat themselves like kings and queens, princes and princesses. A couple of weeks ago HRH Queen Elizabeth warned her grandson to cut down the frequent travels by chopper with his wife and kids. Ask why..... people who value life and know what it means to preserve it. So that the generations after them will remain on top, in power and in wealth perpetually. We have such poor mentality here. |
Nigeriafirstlad:Leadership failure caused by citizen sentiment. |
Hmmm.... interesting. Wonder if they are impregnated with landfill smells to complete the 'experience'..... ![]() |
In a nutshell Nigeria is bankrupt. Thank you Mr. Buhari and thank you the ruling APC. Your legacy is sealed. |
So shocked to see folks living is such humble and humiliating circumstances. So for the life of me I just cannot understand why we are not united in removing failed goverments, installing better performing ones and watching over them like a hawk in between. Why is all the talk today about everything else except our personal survival and wellbeing. |
