Poor governance has plunged this country into the deepest schism seen since the civil war. |
Mikecold:So by reporting the news they have become your enemy and the enemy of the state. See how fellow citizens think. Instead of thanking them for going places where the vocal studio media will never venture to report incidents so that action can be taken. You folks seem to prefer a situation where rumour and half truths prevail so that these crimes can continue in the dark... |
Anneka101:That is the only thing that makes sense. Have multiple tiers of security that understand local peculiarities and are answerable to the local populace. To ensure accountability these services should be paid for as first line charges off direct levies so that the local or state government is not burdened or they donot hijack its operations. Someone here suggests increasing the staff strength of the present police is the answer, not decentralization and I just laugh. If by some heavenly inspiration all of us send our domestic security men, including drivers and cooks to join the police, even willing to pay their salaries, how many of them will we see doing duties on the streets, how many of them will effectively return policing services to us. I tell you, barely any. They will still end up with Senators, in convoys of personal and special assistants and carrying the bags and guarding the premises of bigger men than you. The argiment in Nigeria has never been about the resources but way resources are deployed via the system that designates it which is just wrong. I repeat we continue to operate a colonial model of government which was all about monarchial control and not about citizen service. Thay is why today our police do barely anything to serve the people. |
Today a police constable on the streets of Lagos, Kano or Onitsha is answerable to no one but his superior. He can even give a finger to the Governor and nothing will happen. Why? Structure. Folks, with the kind of structure we operate the police ultimately serves the President of Nigeria. They have said so in words (past IG's) and do so before our very eyes in unfortunately many, many unkind, unreasinable and ineffectual anti citizenry deeds. Without restructuring Nigeria will just fade away as a nation state. No amount of management can help this country. |
If it is not a privately developed bridge then its just funny. Why not deploy the resources in completting the metro instead which will be a far bigger cash cow. Just wondering. |
Because of the unique dichotomy between geography and religion. In a nutshell the north is defacto Muslim and the south defacto Christian. And until the country us restructured a camel will pass through the eye of a needle before a southern Muslim or a northern Xhristyian will bedome President. But the real tragedy is that when calls are made for the restructuring of the country agencies like MURIC will take sides with the north on acount of religion and torpedo any moves to right this listing ship of state. So call it shooting oneself in the foot. |
Just passing by. Nothing left to say about this sorry country, under this sorry government led by those sorry leaders. We have earned every dividend we presently enjoy. |
And what makes her a Nigerian? |
maybanks:What is the rate of inflation oga. |
This is the same city called 'mega'.…kai. Must be mega wahala day in, day out. |
Poor quality governance everywhere you look. But what can we say. We all vociferously put them tgyere only to realise later we had been sold down the river. |
fnep2smooth:Its a camper. You drink beer when 'CAMPED'....Nigerians sef... Learn to learn about things. |
Rochas looking on in deep reflection... |
....perhaps, because they are all in the nude....gentlemanly won't you reckon? |
Like Ronaldo at Juventus, Messi will just be more or less a badge. Useful for international matches only. |
Another confirmation that soccer has drifted away from Spain. If table toppers Atletico can be this poor then.... |
Messed up government. This issue has been lingering the entire tenure. But since the people so love the PDP there they can stew in the situation. |
The beat 11 players in the world does not necessarily make the beat team. Known this since the 1982 Brazilian squad. |
alasane:That is a lie. They have not all been compensated. There are long running court cases that precedes this government, even this republic. If a government cannot obey the law, they can at least negotiate with the opposing parties. If they lack the resources to compensate they can at least reach agreements. But government and this one in particular is apt to kick up storms and wage war against its people constantly. They then turn around and wonder why the fabric of society is so weak and the country is terribly divided. |
Quietly achieving great things. |
Good one. Infrastructure is business. I will like to see private and publicly quoted companies involved. |
There you have it. Your so called Representatives you go stand in line to elect work for the same people you stand in another line to elect. What is the point of having the Executive and Legislature singing from the same hymn sheet. Why do we have a Legislature at all at such high cost if they simply duplicate the functions of the Executive. Who for goodneas sake do these people answer to and who do they serve. |
Because of a stupid commissioning. Or is that bridge built with anyone's personal money. Indeed I have seen an evil under the sun. Those who pay for public works trekking and fainting while those who profit from it and personify government having their egos massaged...hopeless nation, hapless citizens. When the governor finally arrives they will still hail his imperial majesty and spread their garments on the bridge for him to drive over. After all it is the season of royal entries. |
Once again. Public schools are public property no matter what title they bear and when a service is public it should reflect public interests for justice. Thus if these schools are funded by the taxpayer, the taxpayer has every right to decide how they are run except prior agreements had been reached between the previous owners and the present. Second and more important point. Once again to Christians out there. It should be clear to you folks that the Missionary model of free, qualitative education as established a hundred years ago is no longer feasible and sustainable. It is clear that qualitative education requires qualitative funding. Against the backdrop of the desire to maintain or sustain the Christian ethos by controlling these educational institutions churches and missions will have to come up with the resources to make them or keep them private and off the tax payer. But how is this possible when today there is widespread criticism about the charges indepedent Christian based educational institutions demand and criticism of the levies adherents are made today for the upkeep of these institutions. Every Christian out there complaining about secular/societal 'takeover' and equally complaining about financial demands of churches and missions should ask themselves how they want this circle squared. I wish to call out those custodial churches mainly the Catholic and other orthodox Christian faiths and warn. If you will not pay for the independence of those schools you will lose them to the world. It is not the name that matters but the piper that plays. |
jansonn:Sure. A nation that cannot sit down and discuss within and amongst itself to lasting peace but is apt to issue threats is one that will surely come a cropper. You then ask, what is the point investing heavily in Legislatures at various levels if the views of peoples cannot be addressed without shots being fired. Why is everything in Nigeria zero sum. Why can't this country be restructured. Why. |
The whole country is in a mess. With all these where is the lasting development going to come from. Folks, you can all see what really matters to Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not corruption but the structure of this country which is not right at all. Nothing worthwhile can be built on this basically dysfunctional foundation. |
I think for the formative years a child will do better here in a reasonably resourced, reasonably enlightened family. Beyond the that the gap begins to open up quite markedly. |
This administration has really taken this country and its citizens to the lowest depths of division not seen since 1966. And those entrusted with power for the benefit of all and who swore to uphold the Constitution that ensures the liberties of all do nothing to keep this country on an even keel. |
Get legal counsel.. It is best to see the end from the beginning. Self help has its tragic consequences. |
guy222:That one was just a serial kleptomaniac who is just a beneficiary of political trapeze. |
But as a matter of fact, that particular aircraft is not a large one and does not require a great deal of runway to put down. If the runway was too far off why not put the craft down on a highway or something. There are many long, well paved roads around Abuja. When you lose an engine it is an emergency but not a crises until the second and third (if there are more) are lost. If it is certain the aircraft cannot remain airborne it is pointless trying for an airport, just look for a safe strip of land and land. |
Must be that notorious fan disk problem. There is nothing I fear more than that sort of failure because the shreaded parts can go anywhere. |
