FrostyButter:Brutal truth. Instead of defending poverty, have the mentality to generate wealth. The world is leaving us behind to crab it out at the bottom of the barrel. Mediocrity is the new ideal in Nigeria. I will definitely be investing in supporting the faculty of my profession in CU with infrastructure and scholarships in my lifetime. They are a determined, serious bunch. |
Aquariann:No, no. What about those who gave him the dollars. Is bribery not a crime anymore. What about those who released the funds to the contractors? Are they covered by immunity too. They are doing NOTHING about the Kano incident. They are not even talking about it thoughtless of taking any action, media or not. |
Fantastic one from the government. Good infrastructure development. We will get there step by step. |
ArcFresky:Not much difference. Can the average Lagosian say he is better off than the average Nigerian in all the key indices of living.... don't think so... |
7 trillion... wow ... Thar is Federal status....indeed paltry returns on investment. |
Where are those racists that claim violence is a northern phenom. So folks can be massacred over the same land issues the infamous herdsmen dare. |
OMOTOWO:But Fashola was there for 8 years and before him the great Jagaban himself... |
Ha.... is this really the Dubai of Nigeria.... hmmm after 20 years of APC and trillions of naira in income.... |
chosengocap:Exactly. No case has been opened yet. Not even against those offering the bribes.... Abeg.... Nigeria does not need this distraction now. |
Ehiscotch:He was stopped by a court order that bordered on constitutionality. The penalty could have been impeachment. That is why in my opinion no leader can make the fundamental changes that will transit the country to the path of true and sustainable development on their own with mere policies and programs. Granted the PDP then was largely power drunk and sluggish on reforms needed due to the complacency that attends to its long tenure in government, but you can see that in this government, even with the much trumpeted anti-corruption war as a panacea to our development, that it has not improved the lot of Nigerians. Our chalkenge remains fundamental. The structure is just wrong, period. So any government that is elected next year, whether the Buhari led APC or the Atiku led PDP, will not make any meaningful impact come 2023.... except the person sets up the machinery to take this nation apart structurally for a better and more homogenous rebuild. Nigeria is by default a defective entity. My old posts in 2014 are there for anyone to see and it rings true today. Without restructuring, governance in Nigeria is like paddling a canoe upstream. And since President Buhari has closed the door on any chance of restructuring we Nigerians can be guaranteed that by 2023 this country will be exactly the way he met it and hopefully not worse. |
PhockPhockMan:Hmmmm.... |
Can't see what is wrong with what she said. I for one will not bathe my daughter for the very reason. I remain of the school of thought that impressions are relevant and what you do is as important as what you think and who you are. If I see you wear a short skirt, sag your pants I will need a lot of persuation to believe you are not what I think. I don't leave my intentions to the imagination of people and would not cause anyone including my partner's mind to fester. So I don't keep beer in my fridge or ladies numbers on my phone and I believe as soon as a child is one years of age his or her or my privacy is paramount. That is the cross I have to bear to make relationships work. That is leaving no one in doubt. |
DaAwesome1: ..yes na, won't you run. There is no soldier who won't run at some point of a fierce battle. That is why to succeed you must engage them outside their kill zone. You need artillery, mortars or missiles.... or if you have the guts you can hunker down till they run low on ammunition because those things donot come with much due to the weight.... But who will dash you guts when you hear them spitting fire and the ground is shaking. Abeg, these soldiers are trying and we must support them from the COAS down to the infantryman on the field. They make terrible sacrifices everyday. War is bad, very bad. We need political solutions. |
And for some other information. There is nothing such as an outdated weapon. A bow and arrow will kill you today as it killed 5,000 years ago. A Lee Enfield of the second world war will still kill effectively. What makes a bigger difference is the serviceability of the weapon in question and the tactics adopted to suit that weapon. There are however outdated weapon systems and this has to do when you want to integrate different weapons platforms into a battlefield system. |
FarahAideed:Something like this. |
DaAwesome1:There is nothing you can do about those on the battlefield. Those things have enormous range of a couple of kilometres. They will kill you out of visual range. That is why a fighting unit must be fully complemented. with out of range weapons such as mortars and field guns or be completely mobile. |
fkj950ax:Na so. You need to join the infantry. Then you will know better. |
richeeyo:No sir. If.you have used a weapon before you will realise that the heavier the rifle, the more accurate it will be to shoot. It is simple physics. A longer barrel makes for more rifling and the more a bullet spins before exiting a barrel the more likely it ia to stay on track. A longer barrel means more weight. That is why the Tavor cannot compete with a BM for instance at range. But since you can carry more ammunition it compensates for the less accurancy. Not saying the AK is heavier than the AR though. They are about the same weight. |
There is some misconception here and folks have to understand what the loose term 'sophistication' means. Modern, updated, technologically superior can hardly describe what the inventory these insurgents wield, at least from the ones caputured. I really cannot see any sophisticated weapons used in the Bornu theatre. What I however obswrve is that they seem to come to battle with a better balance of weaponry carefully selected to defeat our military. If they counter your infantry with truck mounted, thus mobile heavy machine guns they will do damage to fixed infantry positions. If they bring rocket propelled grenade launchers and can man them tactically they can take out your APC's and light vehicles. If they bring those 88's with anti-aircraft rounds as long as the palm of my hand then even helicopter gunships will need some serious tactics to penetrate their envelope. None of these weapons are unusual or exotic. They just seem to have a better balance of weaponry, and a different tactic driven by their warped philosophy. They donot come to fight, they come to die. It is difficult to contain such an adversary. But doubtlessly our military needs to step up, re-arm properly and adapt their tactics. If they donot have the requisite equipment to hold the ground and dig in, I suggest they keep mobile to offer these bandits less of a static target to assault. |
yusufu16:No sir. The Tavor is not considered a battlefield weapon in these parts in that it spots 5.56mm ammunition which has an average bullet weight of 4 grams and powder for a maximum effective range of 250 metres. Traditionally we prefer 7.62mm ammo which has a 9 gram jacket and has more powder to propel it to an effective kill at 400 metres. Every soldier I knew preferred to engage the enemy at a further distance and I can imagine if you are faced with a charging horde of militia men you want to start taking them down further out and especially out of PED range. Two. I cannot expect any serious infantry to use a lower calibre that the adversity it is fighting.and the AK appears the standard weapon for militia the world over. The 5.56mm ammo does have its advantage. It is lighter and so you can carry more and can be more effective for close combat. Lastly. And most important to any soldier is reliability. There is currently no rifle in the world that can match the AK for reliability. Even the Americans with more sophisticated AR's, Colts and Bushmasters will tell you when their special forces get into battle, they inevitable complete difficult missions with the AK and our armed forces donot have the same maintemace and replacement capabilities of those nations. The summary is: every mechamic, cook, cobbler, painter, sportsman or woman will most likely perform and succeed using the tools most familiar, reliable and comfortable dor them. I had only a brief stinct with the AK in my time and we used to call it a toy back then due to its light weight and melodic sound in rapid fire. We grew using the German H&K G3, before the Belgian FN and then our government went completely East bloc. In terms of personal infantry fire arms there is absolutely nothing wrong with our set up. What we need are the other elements that a fighting unit needs. Communication devices, battlefield analysis devices, command and control devices, updated heavy weaponry such as mortars, mines and HEAP artillery pieces and of course updated training. That's all. |
In this structure corruption CAN NEVER END. Instead of facing that we prefer the distraction of the anticorruption rhetoric. |
KingThreatzz:So doing the right thing has no more meaning... just getting re-elected.... anyway I have said it numerous times....by 2019 everyone will be demystified... |
Olufemiolaolu:Oga, stop this nonsense and join the protest to get things done!!!. What is your gain in all this. Can the PDP help you now. Can the PDP rebuild those roads. Why not wake up and hold power to account instead of trying to shield mediocrity. That is how democracy works. It is not a fashion parade. The APC holds power at the local government, state and Federal levels and you are here shouting PDP. Some of you folks are just impossible. Okay, don't call on the government and roam around the PDP. Let me see how those roads will be fixed. Be playing politics with your welfare and destiny....nonsense. |
Some are still talking about a regime voted out almost four years ago.... and absolving a state government that has been in power close to eight years and still is.... I just do not understand. Okay, leave the roads as they are. Don't hold your leaders to account. Even the much maligned pastor in that area offered to partner to rebuild some roads but it has not received the necessary cooperation. Even PPP solutions cannot work and folks here are playing politics.... shame. |
Yeah, heard it today on the radio and was quite impressed. I think this is the most positive vibe I've heard from Mr. President in years and I must commend him for that. I also think a lot, and I mean a lot of time and resources has needlessly been wasted looking into the rearview mirror and playing both the ruling amd opposition parties at the same time and Nigeria and Nigerians have suffered for it. We all have had this kind of experience at one time or the other in our personal lives, relationships, businesses, etc. If you must make quick, sure progress a man must lighten the load he carries and there is no bigger burden than that of the feeling of mental incapacitation. It has sapped the energy needed to generate the ideas that will have helped the country. Once more I commend Mr. President for being this forthright. |
jellington:Let me ask you a single question. If the APC gets voted out of power for non performance 2019. Do we then assume that in the next election cycle say in 2023, the APC should not contest or people should not consider them for office because of what happened 2015 - 2019...? Because you have to understand how democracy works. Success is rewarded with re-election and tenure elongation for the party, failure is punished with loss pf power and truncation of tenure of the incumbent party. Your problem is that you like most Nigerians cannot just bring yourself to seperating the party from the actors and you have to grow mentally into that scheme of thought. Tje party is an institution seperate from the entity of the individuals that run it. If people stole or mismanaged resources in the course of their responsibilities, they are now out of power. The immunity that the office gave them is gone and they can be prosecuted but the party is not a human entity amd so cannot be held accountable for the actoins of its principals. The party is a vehicle and cannot be arrested for causing an accident but the driver can. If the present government runs the country aground and the tenure of President Buhari is ended by the people it does not stop the APC from fielding someone else at the next polls. It will then be the failure of the individual. The vehicle will simply be repaired and put back on the road. You cannot have a race with only one contestant. I just don't understand how you folks reason like that. |
Fitbillionaire:Then leave this forum. This place is about Nigerians and for Nigerians. And we will solve our problems. Tell me which country you are now and I will reel out its violent history. All countries from China, Japan, Australia, India to Europe, the Americas, the Incas of South America.... all countries and territories had an unruly, violent pasts. They solved it to become civilsed and prosperous. We will solve our problems and Nigeria will be great with our without naysayers. This nonsensical, cowardly attitude is beginning to irritate me. You have left, good. Better don't look back. Just enjoy your ready made bed. Stop the insults and face your new country. |
Ugosample:Tracked by who. You will need another institution and with it another bureaucratic bottleneck with its attendant challenges just to do that. I think the first thing to do is to completely commercialise health care in Nigeria so that it can attract the much required investment. Then to liberalise health insurance by taking it away from government control completely. For the rich and educated middle class it will be a straight forward procedure. For the poor and less informed it can be organised around the various cooperative contributory schemes you find run in markets, schools, shops, etc amongst traders, students and artisans, etc. Then if the government wants to buy equity on the service side or customer welfare side, it can but its participation should strictly be that of a regulator. This will transfer responsibility to the public and will go a long way in creating awareness on the need to live a healthy life and moderate the number of dependents or offspring a typical family has. Right now the government at all levels serve this false claim the medicare is free in some of its hospitals for some procedures but the truth is far from that. No government in the world can cater for 180 million people free of charge. Someone has to pay. |
theoldpretender:I understand. The whole system is a mess. We badly need to curb our population growth with education while we think out ideas on how to generate the much needed revenue to fund public services. This can only be done in a restructured entity. Our present system is just unsustainable. |
chendstone01:Stop being silly. What has the lecturer got to do with this. Do you know plagiarism is a criminal offence. It is equivakent to cyeating in examinations, or forgery in statutory requirements. There is a level of academic competence required of a grad student and if he cannot meet these he is advised to withdraw. Simple. The idea that everyone who goes to school must graduate is misplaced. All he needed to do was extra studies to meet up not kill himself because of 'his mates' as if his life is tied to them or a given time frame. He goes out half baked and it is folks like you that will accuse the institution of mismanagement and incompetence. His friend knew he was suicidal and did nothing to alert authorities or intervene. |
That is why Nigerians think they reserve a right to walk into any embassy and be presented a visa. Because of things like these. They think every society is as disorganised as the one they choose to accept. |
What really upsets me in all this is that at a time like the transition period, when pertinent questions should be asked of power and important solutions be sought of the opposition, this is the best the citizens of this country have to offer, useless sentiment. The elections will soon come and go and then the people will awake by their hunger to realise the great missed opportunity. Today is Atiku's visa, tomorrow is Buhari's persona.... why are Nigerians this dull.... Look, we can never build a society better than the quality of our collective intellect. So disappointed.... really. |
