eGuerrilla: Mainly because you have been fixated all along with the feeding allowance of the LASG, I am afraid you have proven nothing.

Someone more astute and driven by less of a desire to malign the Lagos state governor would tackle issues of accountability quite differently.

The larger problem with your approach here is not so much that it is prosecutorial - even in the absence of any scrutable facts.
Rather, its the paucity of thought on display which equates governance to a zero-sum game, which I find alarming.

To be honest though, you are no more guilty than any number of other commentators on this thread who, on good conscience, denigrate discussions of this sort to the pedestrian level of "my governor is better than yours" or "touch not my anointed".

Never trust these Bretton Woods institutions. According to the World Bank's Chief Economist for African region when asked in October 2012 about poverty rate in Nigeria, he stated that the data supplied by National Bureau of Statistics are controversial and unreliable. See: www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/no-reliable-data-on-nigerias-poverty-rate-world-bank/

UNDP also complained over the rising poverty level in the country in August 2012. See:

Where did the visiting Mr. Diop manufacture the reduction in poverty index?

If d data was NEGATIVE, wudn't u guys be celebrating it by now? The data from d World bank and NBS show that poverty rate is in a DECLINING position in d 2-yr period unda GEJ afta increasing for sm yrs b4 he became President- DEAL WITH IT..... At least on NL, none of u goons wud eva with a straight face that Poverty and Unemployment rates are increasing, except also admitting dat such data was pulld up yr azzes...
Sorry if I am not comfortable enough with these Bretton Woods institutions. Can you please explain to me what the government has done right to have a reduction in poverty and unemployment rates? The economic growth we are experiencing is due to the increase in the international price of crude oil and increase in crude oil production but it hasn't improved our human capital development index. I'll like to know the indicators for you to conclude that this government has made a considerable impact in human capital development.

Why sensationalise this news when GEJ has effected a change to it? Though we've also had pocket of arrests and detention of journalists by the SSS with GEJ in power. Guess every government is never comfortable with criticism hence the Pro-GEJ's on this forum tries to silence those who critique the government.
Politics › Re: Economic Reforms Not Easy In Nigeria – Jonathan by takedat(m):
Economic reforms are not easy because of the poor quality of leadership and our socio-political environment complicates the process of national development. The depravity of government makes them disoriented by churning out absurd policies and reforms without political will to see it through. A country that is still on zero industrialisation, double digit inflation rate, high interest rate, N6trillion debt and more borrowings to come, infrastructural deficit, massive corruption, failed political class, high unemployment rate and insecurity will NEVER achieve any sustainable development in the long run!

Politics › Re: No Going Back On Cell Phones For Farmers – Minister by takedat(m):
@Taharqa, this talk on subsidising mobile phone na wash. Note that this scheme is not for poor farmers. The government is already subsidising 50% of the farm inputs while the farmers also provide the other 50%, so what is the need of providing them mobile phones when government is already benevolent to them abi government na "father christmas"? Why not leave this in its entirety to the farmers and telecom operators since their own motivation is to expand their coverage? The best government could do is to organise enlightenment programmes on how the e-wallets is used to the farmers!

thelastPope: Why did this not affect the monies spent on the blue rail launch which was unnecessary and the food and drinks that the people were scrambling over? Do you know how much was paid to music artists in the last Lagos state event i attended? Some artists were paid in millions! You can defend the amount spent but to suggest no monies are spent on these things is ridiculous!
How are you so sure it was the state government that paid the bill for the blue rail launch? It was more of a launch organised by the Chinese partners. Can we know the Lagos state event you attended as an invited guest for you to know how much was paid to the artistes? Abi na mouth u dey make?

Politics › Re: No Going Back On Cell Phones For Farmers – Minister by takedat(m):
eGuerrilla: Comrade take dat,

You raised some valid concerns about the issue of access, but these have already been covered by the minister.

With the direct involvement of telephone service operators, I think we have the technology angle covered.

My considered view is that the provisioning of an e-wallet application would require phones of a particular standard.

I am, of course, not unaware that this may well provide an avenue to siphon funds, and therefore intend to keep an eagle eye on further developments in this area. wink

That a farmer is not literate in English does not make him an illiterate in all known languages.
There are ways around this particular constraint sir, as the Kenyan experience of M-Pesa has shown.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQo4VoLyHe0
Well I like your optimism. Apart from the fear of a thieving government, what motivation do the telecom providers have to install base stations in the rural areas? There are a lot of farmers who Find it difficult to use ordinary voucher cards, I am yet to understand how those will conform with an advanced technology like e-wallet!

What kind of insult do you think the ACN, CPC, SNG, acn and cpc foot soldiers on nairaland will heep upon him. Please be sincere with ur self.
Don't get it wrong, the onus is not on the state assemblies to start an impeachment process. It starts with the state executive council led by the acting governor who will constitute a medical panel to verify the governor's state of health but where the problem lies is; the medical team will most likely consist of the governors personal physician, the state commissioner of health he appointed and some other loyalists/sympathisers of the ailing governor. It will be difficult to ascertain the true state, because the report of these loyalists will be in favour of the governor since they have vested interest in keeping the governor at the helms of affair, just like the Yaradua scenario. It is only with the intervention of the President, whom without minding whose ox is gored that can help salvage the situation.
Politics › Re: No Going Back On Cell Phones For Farmers – Minister by takedat(m):
eGuerrilla: It is not often that I find myself defending the current administration, but as its agricultural reform program provides clear evidence of "green shoots" emerging, it behooves commentators to toe the line of objectivity.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with subsidizing a key sector of the economy. If you read between the lines, this is precisely what the minister alluded to doing.

"Addressing newsmen, the minister said government would not commit itself to direct purchase of the cell phones for farmers but would only subsidise the phones through a partnership that would involve telephone service operators, Ministry of Communications Technology and other stakeholders."

Government has a moral duty to protect its citizens from all kinds of charlatans. In this instance, since we have been informed the plan is to provide real-time information to farmers, by eliminating leech-like third parties, what is the problem?

"According to him, the decision by government to subsidise the purchase of cell phones for farmers is tied to the distribution of fertilizers directly to the farmers without the involvement of third parties who had allegedly been ripping them off".

"The minister also revealed that the government will provide agriculture loans at below 10% interest rates from next year. Extension services about use of correct seeds and fertilizers would also be provided to rice farmers in 2013" (Source)

Agreed.
There is absolutely nothing wrong in subsidising the sector but the distribution of mobile phones to farmers doesn't look like a well thought out plan.
Firstly, I am not convinced that most farmers are without a phone. Since the scheme is a 50-50 arrangement between government and the farmers, for a farmer that is willing to part with his own 50% there is no way he wouldn't be able to afford a mobile phone on his own.
The country is still battling with rural telephony and most farmers reside in the rural areas, would government also erect mast for mobile network coverage and what is the motivation for telecoms providers to establish base stations in the rural areas? Will government pay for their vpn also?
How convenient is it for an illiterate farmer up north to use an e-wallet?

I have other reservations but am time constrained.

Demdem: Interesting and welkom development from the killer party no doubt. grin grin

Come to think of it, if a lower court ask a governor to vacate his seat and he immediately appeals to an higher court, does the governor vacate his seat pending when his appeal is finally adjudicated?
Surely, Retardeen has given the Mallam some kai-kai. he is going mad.
That simply shows its a divided house. They could have waited and rallied round Oyinlola to see if his stay of execution pending appeal scales through in the usual "family affair" manner.

Omexonomy: I have said it before alot people can not differiate b/w the function of a president and a gov e.g MUSIWA SEANAT01 and alot of educated illitrate on this forum. Now the SNG are comparing the post of the presidency is being compare to that of house of assembly. In future they will compare it with that of a ward councilor. What a pity.
Since the acting governors of the affected states have refused to set up a panel to ascertain the state of health of the absentee governors before sending their findings to respective states houses of assembly to begin the impeachment process, the President who is the National Leader of PDP ought to wade in since those states are PDP controlled states and with majority in the assemblies. The President's silence shows he is covertly in support of the illegality.

The President should wade into this matter since the Acting Governor is not forthcoming or afraid of constituting a panel to verify his state of health before the state assembly initiate an impeachment process. Not until the President and PDP leadership take a bold move, the people of Enugu will remain in the dark.
Is it not pure ignorance that will get failed political party agents to wish and actually believe that the present internal dispute within the PDP will destroy the party. PDP has a strong record of conflict resolution. The have resolved worse disputes before with ALL parties to the conflict going home happy. That is PDP for you. Just few weeks back, Adamawa dispute seemed capable of swallowing up the party. Tukur took tough decisions and resolved it the way he did and people within the rank like Oyinlola was sure that Tukur was on his way out because by his estimation, he was the candidate of the Governors forum. Just few days later, the Party axis of power concentration (PDP governor's forum) passed a vote of confidence on Tukur.
Just know that the PDP is really tested in this game. PDP power lies with the President and the govenor's forum and they almost always have their way. Tomorrow, your Oyinlola could be on his way to Jamaica as an Ambassador while praising PDP, Tukur and the President to high heaven.
And for political parties that hinge their sucess or popularity of the failure of the ruling party to resolve her conflicts, it says a lot about their mindset. One of them even 'prophesy' assasination. It shows that they don't care whose father or mother is killed in the process. They just want power. And i know Nigerians will always see through them.
We all know that the internal wrangling in PDP is a temporary affliction and that aggrieved members will be settled from the public treasury with "ghana must go",appointments or another fuel subsidy scam in PDP's usual family affair manner! You just clarified the party as the biggest treasury looting party.
