It is a very sad situation that we find ourselves in. Southerners should have taken to the streets the moment former governor Odili procured a perpetual injunction restraining efcc and other law enforcement agencies from investigating or prosecuting him. So many other cases highlighted the criminal tendencies of the political class. We lost our moral basis when we did not fight this stupidity.

The other day, Igbinedion (former Governor of Edo state) got fined for a paltry #3 million Naira having being found guilty of stealing billions of Naira. NBA, Southern leaders and other relevant bodies were not repulsed by that criminal judgement.

As a Southerner myself, I have never benefited from monies stolen by some southern leaders hence I am bemused when people ask southerners should fight for one accused southern leader who agreed to having committed the alleged infarctions.

Let the children of Odili, OBJ, Fayose, FFK and others take to the streets and fight for Onoghen.

I don't know why Nigerians are making a bit of a fuss about this matter. It is left to the CJN to search his conscience, if he believes he has done something wrong then he should resign immediately. On the other hand if his conscience is clear he should appear before the code of conduct tribunal to clear his name.

Nigerians will be sympathetic to the CJN of course because majority of Nigerians have criminal tendencies and they see the CJN as one of them.
What is the fuss about?

Saraki was tried by CCT and acquitted even though the Executive didn't have the power to remove as Senate President; the same holds for the case too - the CJN can not be removed by the President or CCT without recourse to the NJC but the CJN can be (and infact should) be tried and if found innocent he should be discharged and acquitted. if found guilty, the NJC should do the needful.

Many commoners here, have brothers/sisters/friends that have been sentenced to various degrees by this CJN for petty crimes, in the course of his judicial career! Let the elites fight themselves, they care little about you.

The entire preliminary objection appears anchored upon an underlying premise that the CCT process is to “remove” the CJN from office, when there is absolutely no mention thereof in the reported charge sheet. Obviously, it is NOT within the purview of the CCT (or the CCB) to remove the CJN from office, but it is certainly within its authority (and thus its substantive jurisdiction) to hear and rule on petitions brought against any officer listed in the Constitution for failure to properly declare his/her assets.

The contention of the preliminary objection is essentially akin to arguing that because only the Senate (and Senators voting in the chamber) can impeach and remove the Senate President under the Constitution, a sitting Senate President cannot be tried by the CCT for improper asset declaration. Obviously, such an argument did not prevail for Saraki at the same CCT (and even the Supreme Court upheld the CCT’s jurisdiction in the Saraki case), so why would anyone think it would in this instance?

All over The world, Presidents withhold their assents to bills; Presidents have the right to assent to or veto any bill while the Lawmakers reserve the right to override the veto, if they can muster a 2/3rd majority.
