Coolabbie: I will speak for myself and my experience.
I live in such a neighborhood and I love it. The calibre of people I have met just walking down my street is something that would never have been possible if I was living in low-income neighbourhoods.
Twice, I have gotten job offers without any mention of cv. One of them works closely with the governor, the other owns a radio station. The people that offered me this job did not know me from Adam, they only know I am a neighbour.
Besides, nothing beats the inspiration gotten from walking around your neighbourhood and seeing beautiful mansions, clean streets, and breathtaking landscaping.
The quiet, the serenity, the security is something I will not trade.

Funny enough, even women don't like being called feminists (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-47006912) and this also applies to Nigerian women. Feminism in Nigeria is only practiced on Twitter, Instagram and to an extent Nairaland. Go to Facebook and people's homes and you will see that the current ideology isn't espoused by your everyday Nigerian woman who are the vast majority of females not some overrated misandrists on Twitter.

Norman4real: A woman hitting the wall means that she is past the peak of her sexual market value and is only at a steady decline beyond that point. It's a point at which a woman is no longer able to attract the kind of men she desires and has to either stay single or settle for a kind of guy she typically would never have given a chance back when she was in her prime.
Women typically start hitting the wall as early as 25 yrs and some can hold out till their late 30s but normally by the time a woman reaches 40yrs she's hit the wall.

Culture › Re: Geles: A Nigerian Woman's Must Have. The History Behind Geles by wealthtrak: 10:23pm On Jul 06, 2021 |
2010 A famous Nigerian "Gele Artist"
Houston, Texas (CNN) -- Segun Gele, or to use his full name Hakeem Oluwasegun Olaleye, is a man making a name for himself in a woman's world. The Houston-based businessman has made an artform out of tying a gele -- the gravity-defying headwraps worn by Nigerian women. To meet him is to understand how he became a celebrity in a field only a few years in the making. He's not only a vivacious self-promoter; he's also clearly thrilled to find himself making money doing something that comes so naturally to him. Watching Segun Gele whip the material into graceful folds and arcs in less than five minutes, you know he is the master. Geles come in different fabrics such as damask, brocade and "aso-oke" (hand-woven fabrics popular for Yoruba special occasions in Nigeria). The most popular fabric among Nigerian women is a metallic fabric made from jacquard. Gallery: Segun Gele, the master headturner They have been worn by Nigerian women for generations, but in recent years has become the ultimate fashion accessory for important parties and events in the U.S., something that Segun Gele partially credits himself for. He says when he moved to Houston, Texas in 2003 from Nigeria, many Nigerian women had stopped wearing their gele because it was just too difficult to tie by themselves. To Segun Gele, this was a great tragedy. "I mean, you would not find a woman wearing a good headwrap," Segun Gele said. "They would rather wear pantsuits to a Nigerian party. They would rather wear their jeans to a Nigerian party. And when they had the headwrap made, it was just okay." He first noticed he could turn his skills into a promising business when he offered to tie a woman's head wrap at a friend's wedding. Within minutes, he had whipped the two-yard fabric into a headturning, vertiginous shape that left other women at the party impressed. Before long a queue had formed and he started charging $7 a piece to tie gele at the wedding, Segun said. Over time his rates grew to $10, then $15, and now he rarely ties wraps at parties but reserves his services for weddings or other special occasions. "In the past, I used to have so many people. I think I had about 20, 30 people standing in the line to have their hair tie tied. But it got to the stage where it was overwhelming," he said. Segun Gele now charges $650 to tie wraps for brides and their party for Houston weddings, and $1,000 plus hotel, rental car and airfare for out-of-town weddings. This wedding season he's already flown to Georgia, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts and Maryland. Knowing brides reserve him a year in advance, well aware of his popularity. It's the only business he's done since he moved to the U.S., and one that's showing no signs of slowing down. He has students that pay to train with the master, flying in from around the U.S. and London. So long as gele remains a fashion statement for Nigerian women, Segun Gele is sure to remain king of his domain.

Education › Re: Ibrahim Waziri Jnr: The HND Graduate From Nigeria Who Earned A Phd In America by wealthtrak: 7:55pm On Jul 06, 2021 |
Alajiki: Sometime in 2016, Farooq Kperogi shared a story of one Ibrahim Waziri, in an essay entitled “Ibrahim Waziri: From HND in Nigeria to PhD in America.” The story was both inspiring and intriguing. Dr. Waziri earned HND in Electronics and Computer Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. Of course he was born in America, so returning to his land of birth was not as much challenging. He did his masters’ degree in Applied Engineering at the Georgia Southern University, after which he earned a PhD in Information Security at Purdue University.
He is currently a Senior Consultant (Federal Cyber Risk) at Deloitte; working with US federal agencies to mitigate cyber risks and threats. He also teaches graduate classes as an Adjunct Professor of Cyber-security at Marymount University. Upon reading the essay, I informed Kperogi, that not only did he inspire Dr. Waziri to success, he, along with Moses Ochonu (of Vanderbilt University) also inspired me in ways they might not know.
Although a focal part of my aspirations since my undergraduate days in Nigeria involved the hopes that someday I would attend universities in Euro-America for postgraduate training, I must state, however, that that inspiration was further buoyed up as a result of my encounters with Kperogi and Ochonu. They have always been intellectual mentors who helped me appreciate the prospects of Euro-American education which activated my curiosity for critical inquest.
That said, Dr. Waziri’s story has opened up another can of worms in the Nigerian education system. I have seen comments on the social media of people asking if Dr. Waziri, could even be admitted into a masters’ degree program by a Nigerian public university without being given some additional senseless hurdles to pass through prior to admission.
Needless to say, the norm in Nigeria is that HND graduates are at best advised to go through a Post Graduate Diploma program before they can apply for a masters’ degree program. I know a Nigerian PhD (who started with HND) who could not find a teaching position in a public university in Nigeria. The ‘logic’ that university authorities used against him was simple nonetheless pathetic. They said he could not teach what he does not have; which is a bachelors’ degree.
Meanwhile in England, some people do supervise doctorates yet they do not have doctorates themselves. My father told me that his PhD external examiner in the UK only had a bachelors’ degree, and was not in any way academic. Of course it is always the norm globally that a PhD or a professor supervises a student on a doctoral program, but there are also exceptional cases that must be factored in.
My father attended Cardiff University in the mid to late 80s. He earned his doctorate from a thesis entitled “Studies on a freshwater fishery of a city lake.” His supervisor was one Dr. Ron Williams, a Senior Lecturer at the time. And my father said that Dr. Williams only got his own doctorate after he supervised and graduated two doctorates. Then again, my father’s external examiner was one Richard H. K. Mann, who was from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Oxfordshire. The Centre was under ITE Monks Wood Experimental Station, in Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire.
Although he was not academic as he was not working for an academic organization, and he only had a bachelors’ degree because his job did not demand more than that qualification, Mann, nonetheless, was as much an expert on Fish Biology as any university professor. He had written and published research papers on freshwater fishes including the Roach (the fish species my dad worked on) for many years.
Therefore, with only a bachelors’ degree, Mann was thus, an expert in his own right when it came to the Roach. Back home, Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo attained the professorial rank without a doctorate. Also, I used to read some scholarly work of one late Professor Abdullahi Smith (a Briton who later became Nigerian, and who was formerly known as Henry Frederick Charles Smith) of the Department of History, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). Professor Smith worked at the University of Ibadan before going on to ABU. Smith did not obtain a doctorate yet he supervised several doctorates in history, including, I think, that of late Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman’s.
It seems that unlike in Nigeria, in other places around the world, getting the job done effectively is more important than clinging on to narrow parochial concerns such as focusing on ‘paper qualifications’ at the expense of all other elements and variables.
When I was a researcher in England, it was not uncommon to come across students on a doctoral program being nominated by journal editors to review submitted manuscripts written by a sundry of authors including professors as co-authors. With more Ibrahim Waziris, I hope that we will continue to voice out our concerns about the peculiar absurdities that characterizes the education system in Nigeria. Related HND and American universities HND/Degree: Fresh controversy over old disparity Give HND holders a breathing space.

Romance › Re: Girls Are Quick To Lose Feelings When A Guy Makes These 4 Mistakes by wealthtrak: 7:02pm On Jul 06, 2021 |
MrTAnonymous: Girls Are Quick To Lose Feelings When A Guy Makes These 4 Mistakes
Girls are very observant, there are certain things that put them off or on when they chat with a guy online. Girls are like locks waiting for someone with the right key to open them up.
Below are 4 mistakes guys make when chatting with a girl online,
1. When guys confess their feelings over text too quickly I understand that when a guy has feelings for a girl, it literally hurts so much they want to tell her how they feel really quick so they just confess their feelings over text and expect her to agree to be his girlfriend immediately. No, this is a mistake you shouldn’t do. Rather you should watch how things play out between you and her and if you notice that she might be having feelings for you then you can ask her how she feels about you.
2. Sending “nice guy” text By nice guy texts, I mean the overly repetitive ones where you check up on here every now and then. For instance, you keep sending her texts like “have you eaten?” “How was your night?” “What did you eat?”, etc. These kind of texts are boring and would make you appear needy.
3. Being too available When you are always in her inbox, you are already giving away too much. It would make her get tired of you quickly and you have already eliminated any form of mystery you had and the chances of her missing you. Girls love guys who are mysterious, who are like puzzles they want to figure out. I’m not saying you shouldn’t check up on her, do so but still give room for mystery.
4. Giving up too soon Most girls like playing hard to get not because they don’t like you but because they love the chase and attention you give to them. Most guys simply give up because they weren’t patient enough to get her to open up to him.

Ladycewhy: Ever wondered why over time you no longer feel the need to do certain things you used to do at the beginning of a relationship? You get used to each other. Many long term relationships end up badly or even with one party being silently replaced while this can happen to either gender i will like to stress on the effect this will have on a woman. Naturally women have a biological clock and should be very cautious of long term relationships and time wasters.
The longer a relationship ,the more you get comfortable with each other, get used to each other and become like a typical old boring couple with no spark in your relationship with this the relationship is less likely to proceed to the next level of commitment and marriage.
Many ladies have been gaslighted with "our wife" talk that they become relaxed and assured even when there is no proper commitment in place. A lady said the mother of her ex was calling all his numerous other girlfriends he brought home "our wife" this means even tho a guy has introduced you to all his ancestors its not a guarantee if he doesn't do the needful.
Some guys will tell you i am still studying her,lol for half a decade? Na course?
Some will even tell you "baby don't let anyone pressure you to marry someone you don't love ".
Some will use finance as an excuse where as someone earning less than him is married o,lol
The man finds a woman, when a woman gets to a certain age,the number of men looking her way will reduce,so it is important to make hay while the sun shines ladies ,stop wasting your time in a relationship, stop assuming because you know all his ancestors that is a guarantee he will marry you. Personally maximum of two year is enough to study a person atleast that is how long it takes to acquire an OND .lol
Also lets not also forget the "lord of the rings" actors who will engage a lady for a decade ,lol for some reason there is never a good date to fix for a wedding, that is how one aunty turned to ring bearer because of engagement.
Feel free to add a time wasting line guys normally use. Lol... "Our wife" to multiple young women! |

When asked, she said she wanted to know what it felt like to murder someone. She had already mentioned killing and cutting people on Facebook. When most teenagers have a Friday off school, they sleep in, maybe get together with friends, or play with friends but when 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante of Missouri had a Friday off from school, she spent the day digging two holes in the ground to be used as graves. Then she waited. Alyssa went on with life as usual, she went to school, she hung out with friends; all the while just waiting for the perfect opportunity to murder. That opportunity came just 4 days later, on October 21st, 2009 in the evening, when her neighbour, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten was walking home from her friend’s house. She killed her and later confessed. She’s serving a life sentence.

Abagworo: Ohafia
The ancestors of the Ohafia people must have had a beginning somewhere. Obviously, they must also have had some connection with other groups that are not identified as Ohafia people. Since, Ohafia is Igbo, it goes without saying that Ohafia has a common origin with other Igbo Ethnic groups. In their quest to finding a permanent home of abode, they sojourned through many lands, namely Benin Empire, Ndoni, Ibeku, Bende etc. A prominent happening at their Ndoni home (Ndoni is in present Rivers State) was the demise of their ancestral leader, Akpo Uku. This bequeathed the responsibility of leading the Ohafia people to his son Atita Akpo Uku. From Ndoni the journey continued to Isieke Ibeku. At Isieke Ibeku, some Ohafia persons soon resorted to acts of mischief. Deprived of the influence of their dead leader, minor disagreement with their Ibeku and Leru neighbours easily got out of hand. The laying of sharpened knives across footpaths for offensive rather than defensive reason became very rampant. The ringleader in this overture was a man called ;Ukoha". Both the Leru and the Ibeku people were getting uncomfortable living with their Ohafia neighbours because of this mischievous propensities. During this period, there was fighting between sections of Umuahia ad Ossa Ibeku people. He Ossa people sought refuge with the Ohafia people of Umuajiji in Isieke Ibeku. An attack was been planed against the Ohafia people by the Ibeku people. The son-in-law of Ukoha (the trouble-maker) who was present at the meeting of the Ibeku people revealed the conspiracy to Ukoha. Ukoha took immediate action, alerting the Ohafia people about the planned attack against them. Although the Ohafia people beefed up security, an ominous event occurred that ended their stay in Ibeku. Several accounts exist as to the reason for this exodus. One account said that it was the barking of a dog caught in a trap that frightened an Ohafia woman called Mgbo to raise an alarm. This alarm led to a stampede that evacuated Ohafia people from Isieke Ibeku. Another version of the story was that a string of calabashes (food containers made from the dried skin of gourds) suddenly collapsed making shattering noise. This later version seems to be more correct. This is because the idiomatic tongue twister coined by the fleeing Ohafia made reference to the incident of the collapsed string of calabashes Ruggedman. |

Gibberish! Eri was a warrior from Igala who migrated to the Omambala basin and mixed the the existing Igbo communities. The kinship and closeness between Nri and Igala peopis not shared by other Igbo communities.
Onojo Oboli, a son of Eri was a strong warrior also who terrorised many Igbo communities on the Omambala basin and the Adada basin. Onoja Oboli is Igala yet Eri is somehow supposedly the father of the Igbos. Ridiculous! |
