Kids are adorable. |
This was in 2014. |
Fluency could be subjective but 5 years is more than enough time to attain conversational level in any language. There are two ways to learn a language: * Actively - this involves formal training typically in a classroom but could also include self-training. * Passively - this involves moving to an environment where the language is spoken. The two approaches have thier advantages and disadvantages. Ideally, one should combine the two to get the best result. You'd normally start by taking classes and subsequently, you move to a francophone region for immersion. This is what FLE students do. However, it's not a secret that most people don't have the resources to do that. You may not have the funds for the expensive French classes or to move to a new country. In that case, you'd have to make do with what you have, and by that, I mean self-training. The one thing you can't do without is time. Regarding self training, you need a dictionary, a good textbook, a conjugation handout, lots of videos and a French-speaking friend. A pocket dictionary you can easily access would be just perfect. A good textbook should help you understand the grammar. There are a lot of conjugation handouts out there, just get one that covers the verb groups, modes and tenses with lots of examples. These are just the tools. You still need some guidance (which is the only thing most self-taught people don't usually have). Unfortunately, most YouTubers just teach any topic requested by thier followers. You need to have a list of tropics to cover within a period (the more topics you cover, the more fluent you get). Normally, this is one of the things you get from a classroom training, but you can also get that from a friend who learned the language actively. This way, the chapter you read in your textbook and the videos you watch each day would be informed by the topic you're trying to cover for that day (directed/structured studying). Unlike other topics, conjugations, vocabulary and pronunciation are progressive. So I'd suggest you take a bit of those along side any topic you have for the day. Finally, you MUST practice even if you feel you're saying/typing rubbish. Like we usually say, the only way to learn a new language is by speaking it. This is where you friend comes handy. Also, a language exchange pal can serve here. There are many of them on different language exchange apps/sites. Good luck! |
Most people can have kids. But training someone is definitely an achievement. |
The anti-nigerianness of a typical Nigerian is underwhelming. Without knowing the story, they're always ready to support the second party. |
Lol... I like the "I can't do that". But seriously, why would anyone who can afford a grinding machine do this? How is it better? |
Hehe... il n'a rien fait. |
Thanks for this thought provoking thread, Zimri. By the way, did you just add the (m) to your name? I could swear I'd always seen Zimri(f). ![]() You're still the best! |
What is speaking phonetics? |
If the OP was a lady, this thread would have been all about how women are confused, how you should fear that gender, etc. |
finalboss:Lol... are you kidding me? I don't really think you understand professional level competency. Painting isn't all about pouring some thick liquid on the wall. Painting is an art and art, more than science, requires talent. |
What's wrong with the room? |
AntiChristian:Lol... cats are lovely. Even without any chase, cats sleep during the day to walk around at night. That's a known fact. I don't know why anyone would believe that a cat doing what cats do is something to be afraid of. |
kettykings:I see. Did the person that asked you that question respond to this? I'd like to see his response too. |
Goodplace:How exactly was that comment rude? Perhaps you would have preferred it if she didn't contribute at all cause she's lady? |
During the first phase, flights from countries exposed to a certain extent were banned. We all understood it was for the greater good. This phase isn't any different but I trust my African brothers to get emotional about it and make it a fight. Nigeria should have a yardstick and if the UK, Canada, etc. have been exposed beyond that, they should be banned. Otherwise, it would be unwise to ban some countries just because they banned you and thereby leaving your people in those countries stranded. We all know we have more Nigerians in the UK/Canada than we have Brits/Canadians in Nigeria. It is not a fight. |
Sad. We always come here to say RIP to these suicide victims but everyday, people on this platform still mindlessly say terrible things to others. Funny thing is, some people would start considering the exact thing that made the victim take thier life and then start telling us how it's not worth it. What these people don't know is that it's hardly about the triggering factor but more about the individual, their achilles' heel and pre-existing dispositions. If you don't have anything good or constructive to say to people, just leave them alone. Some say it's the Nigerian lifestyle. Such people are just galvanizing thier lack of empathy. Please, let's be considerate in dealing with people. Being blunt or straightforward or woke or whatever it's called shouldn't take the place of being kind. |
Odetokun3:Hahaha... This one got me ![]() |
xynerise:Wow... this is insensitive. You can choose to ignore her story, that's okay. But you don't have to shut her down. It's her story. It may not worth much to you but that was the most remarkable moment of her life. She's got every reason to, dare I say, reminisce about it every year. |
You had to use that pic to represent Nigeria? You're more interested in mischief than actually conveying a message. |
That's a locust. While locusts can mate and produce other locusts (already-made gregarious) , it's also a known fact that grasshoppers turn into locusts when the conditions are right. In fact, the initial set of locusts in any outbreak cycle is just a bunch of grasshoppers that are suddenly exposed to abundance of green leaves after a prolonged period of drought. The release of serotonin in thier CNS makes them to change from being solitary (solitaire) to being migratory (gregarious). This also comes with change of diet, colour, reproduction speed, etc. When the the locusts reproduce, the nymphs could be solitaire or gregarious. It's not really very easy to tell if one is born a locusts or a grasshopper-turn-locust by looking at them. But you can guess by comparing the age with the outbreak start-date. Rickmann:It's still consumed as a source for protein today. |
Yet you can't stop talking about it. |
Lol... you really expect people to remember the first thing they saw on tv? |
Hahaha.... this one made me laugh. |
backbencher:Oh... I see. |
oyatz:I don't that's an assumption most people make. |
advanceDNA:Lol... I've never read something more Nigerian than this. What evidence do you have to support this your statement? You authoritatively explained what the staged crime was meant to achieve, who staged it and who fell for it as if you were in a closed door meeting with the stakeholders, yet these are all assumptions that appeal to your line of thoughts. This idea of calling out the entire herd (tribe, religion, gender, etc.) cause of one person's activity is so Nigerian. It makes zero sense. I'm very sure you already know this cause I perceive you to be smart. You really think Jussie as an individual had the job of the manipulating the laws of the United States of America? And who exactly is the leftist? You think the US government would execute such a poorly scripted show if they really wanted to pass any laws in favour of gay people? Jussie Smollett is a celebrity. In show business, media attention is singularly the most important element. He had a show coming up and there was also a rumour that the Empire team was going to remove him from the show. The most logical assumption here is that he needed the attention to either promote his own show or gain public support against the Empire team. Celebrities go far and beyond to get attention and simply because this particular celebrity is gay, y'all have gathered to drag gay people to thier graves. We have 9,999 stories about straight people commiting crimes or coming up with attention seeking schemes and then we see that one story where the person is gay and suddenly, we believe it makes sense to cook up theories that tie his activities to all the gay people in the world? You are the same people that protested against stereotyping/profiling barely a year ago. How you really think Jussie Smollett's lifestyle is a yardstick to determine how gay people all the over world should be perceived baffles me. Imagine someone saying Buhari is straight so straight people aren't good leaders or that Okwy is a drug dealer so Igbos are drug dealers. Or you think the gay boy in Asaba was in a whatsapp group where the so-called community planned this attack? Brother, taking the slightest opportunity to take a swipe at people who are different from you is not a very logical way to advance your perspective. Your statements promote discrimination against a group of people who may not even know who Jussie Smollett is and it's not an honorable thing to do. Call out the individual in question, leave his tribe, race, religion, sexuality, etc. That lifestyle hasn't gotten Nigeria anywhere. |
Tonto Dike's ex husband's wife... You just had to find a way to mention Tonto. Later, y'all will say she's the one seeking attention. |
Flamemignon1:Hehe... ![]() People are mean. |
Because, like you, many people keep going for it. |
Flamemignon1:He really blew it.
