kahal29: Thousands of women took to the streets blocking major roads to protest the judgement insisting that no handover of power would be conducted in the state without Lyon.
The protests rocked different parts of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, following the Supreme Court’s judgement that stopped the inauguration of Chief David Lyon as the governor of the state.
Riots commenced in the state on Thursday night after the judgement as youths blocked popular roads in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The youths, who sang in solidarity displaying the flags of the All Progressives Congress (APC), refused to vacate the roads leaving motorists and commuters stranded.
One of the commuters, who spoke in confidence, said she ran into the obstacle created by the rioters describing her experience as terrible.
She said: “It was a terrible experience when I ran into them. They refused to vacate the major road. There was no vehicular movement of any sort. People were forced to return to their homes”.
It was learnt that the protesters made bonfires to cover the dual carriageways as they remained there till after midnight.
On Friday morning, the palpable tension that enveloped the capital city forced many people to remain indoors.
Hundreds of travellers including police and military personnel are currently stranded at the Kiama Bridge end of the East-West Road.
The protesters with the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC numbering over a hundred, are protesting the ruling of the Supreme Court nullifying the election of David Lyon as the governor-elect of the state. . At about 10:20a.m when Vanguard visited the scene of the protest, vehicular movement on either side of the road had been grounded while a long stretch of traffic gridlock had emerged on both sides of the East-West road.
The protesters most of whom are youths, said they are ready for any showdown with security operatives who were seen helplessly staring at the protesters.
Speaking on Chibok girls, Shekau said, “Those shouting Bring Back Our Girls, Bring Back Our Girls, the only way to have those girls back is for our men in prison to be released.”
.....but I assumed they've been subtly doing that under the guise of the rehabilitation program
Akposkool: Reactions in Bayelsa State as Supreme Court sacks Governor Elect of Bayelsa State Chief David Lyon to be replaced by the runner up who happens to be the People's Democratic Party's Douye Diri.. Let's see how the story unfolds
This Lyon abi na PSG own pass Near Success Syndrome (NSS), I no even know wetin to call am, the matter tire me, anyway sha, may God drive every 'Lyon Syndrome' far away from our lives in 2020 and beyond.
Sometimes I wonder why most people dislike this guy, it's ok for everyone to air their opinions and by the way I think I saw someone asking for his location....guy, you better japa no be BBQ dem wan come chop o!....a word is enough for the wise...lol
Story for the gods, so he took a graduate who willingly followed him to his house and "raped" her.
If a girl says 'stop' (because she realizes she was dumb to have allowed you) just once during the act and keeps quiet and the act continues to completion with both of you enjoying it, she begins to scream rape when her body cools off.
Also, if you don't subsequently give a girl the goodies she requested from you during the act, it becomes a rape case.
The relevant authorities should get sense and stop allowing these female use rape as a weapon. That was how one accused a Pastor of rape after 17 years, out of anger, regret and jealousy.
dragunov: President Buhari is one of his kind. He is the coldest, meanest, calculating spawn of the Devil that I have ever heard of or read about.
He uses this trick; 'tell them what they want to hear while you infiltrate their social structure and annihilate them'.
He used his anti corruption and "experienced military combatant " stance to bamboozle Nigerians into thinking that he could fix the country's corruption and insecurity problems, while he was actually funnelling public funds to empower Fulani herdsmen and BokoHaram by paying ransoms in dollars.
What responsible government would pay ransom to terrorists? What responsible government would empower the enemies of its people. What responsible government would seek to rehabilitate TERRORISTS, mindless killers, destroyers of progress and peace and within the shortest period of time push them back into the society? I even hear they are being ingratiated into the Nigerian Army. That is preposterous!
Why can't the same treatment be meted out on armed robbers, cattle hustlers, pick pockets and those who steal primarily to satiate hunger?
While trying to prevent government officials from stealing public funds, he is directing the monies disguised as ransom money to terrorists thereby empowering them.
He is lending his military training and experience to empower Fulani herdsmen and Bokoharam. Then he would pretend to not know anything and further insult our collective sensibilities by stating that he is surprised that bokoharam is still making waves and that herdsmen should not be retaliated upon. He is sympathetic to these killers. Period.
You just hit the nail on the head. In saner climes, he would have been forced to resign.
Question: How can a group of hoodlums stand firm against the army of an entire country? Answer: Go and ask your their kinsmen who are in power especially the obvious bigot.
ChieduJoshua081: This is very sad. These kind of decisions are suppose to be made when alternatives are in place. Lagos is a very tiny place and everybody in the bloody country wants to go there. All those big big land in ogun state that are covered in bushes, can't Lagos buy them? can't federal government buy them and increase Lagos land? It will benefit all of us. And by the way Lagos has to upgrade to electric trains now. It's the only way out of this traffic shit that I have been hearing since I was little.
So, Lagos state should acquire parts of Ogun state in order to expand Lagos? Sorry to say, but are you in anyway related to your President?.... because this reasoning get as e be....
Dpharisee: Okada ban is continuation of the implementation of Amotekun. Most unregistered riders are from the Sahel regions of West Africa including Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Central African republic and Northern Nigeria. The influx of these migrants who cannot be traced easily is part of the reasons US banned Nigeria as it poses a threat. Many of them come in, get Nigeria passports and use it to travel to go and fight in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya etc and to migrate to the West as immigrants. And Buhari even made it easier by declaring visa free entry for all Africans. If you arrest an Igbo or Yoruba rider, within 24hrs his family roots will be known, arrest a northerner and he will tell you that he is a product of almajiri and that he was told that his family was from Maradi in Niger republic. This is a serious security issue, so don't expect the state govt to openly tell you everything. We sympathize with genuine riders affected by this ban, some of them are in this forum.
The love I have for this man eh (Mike Pompeo)......no be here o. I believe him, the restriction would be lifted as long as we do the right thing as a country.
PerfectMatchNG: Narrate your trekking experience this morning
What a day . Oshodi 500 Obalende 800
How much is my salary? I went through hell this morning trying to get a bus to convey me to Eko Hotel from CMS. On a regular day, i take a bus for 100Naira or 150Naira but on getting to the bustop today, it was an eyesore and i eventually paid 500Naira to get to Eko Hotel. I honestly hope something is done soon to help the masses. A BRT Bus came and upon seeing the kind of crowd at the bustsop, he decided to help and asked us to come in. At the point of payment, the other oficials, said the ticket available was for 250Naira and people began to move backwards because we were already used to paying 100Naira.
He said he only had a ticket for Ajah and he was just going to follow Eko Hotel and drop us off. People couldn't pay and we watched an empty Bus leave the terminal. Please help us provide BRT busses that will drop us off at Eko Hotel with a ticket we can afford..Help us please cause i'm not sure we can survive this.
Tankers have claimed so many lives in Lagos yet LASG hasn’t even bothered to enforce existing traffic laws that restrict their time of operation.
Relax, election periods would soon arrive, things would go back to status quo just about that time.
Please try and endure till then. People must get sense by force.
After not being able to get a proper sleep during the week, I decided to induce myself so I could sleep over the weekend, one of the effects of what I took was eating like a glutton, that's not even the point, most intriguing part is the crave for drinking garri.
I slept and ate all day throughout yesterday and as I was about to jump in bed at night, this sudden urge to drink garri just came, I jumped out of bed, drank enough with cold water and groundnuts and went to back to bed. Woke up this morning, first urge, Garri again, I drank plenty of it and went back to bed.
Now today, it's bedtime and the crazy urge to drink Garri again came upon me, I decided to relieve it by coming to catch some fun on Nairaland, only for me to open it and guess what? This thread on Garri!!!! I hope this is not village people at work o, Just so Garri is the strategy to exterminate me!!! I'm shouting out now o!
@OP, you better come and finish what you have started.
Sunnycliff: Buhari is not serious in this Boko Haram fight. How big is north east that a thorough combined military force of all our armed forces can't bring to a halt Boko Haram attacks?
I trust OBJ, whether by hook or crook, he would have resolved this insurgency issue.
This is an anti-government protest cleverly camouflaged as a prayer walk. If it were a prayer walk, why is VP Osinbajo not there?...or has he suddenly stopped following our spiritual father? Anyway, nice one our Daddy GO, you have done the right thing and would be on the good side of posterity when its judgements come.
I saw a picture where GMB marched alongside other prominent Nigerians in a peaceful protest against insecurity years ago when his eyes were set on the Presidential seat. Today he is President and clueless on how to resolve the challenges. We read also that BRF said any regime that cannot fix the issues in the power sector within 6 months is unserious, today the portfolio is under him, again, like his boss, he remains clueless on how to resolve the issues. We can now see that talk is cheap and it is easier to stand on the other side and criticize the opposition, you get there and become absolutely lame. My point is, have a blueprint of the resolution of any issue you choose to criticize or just STFU. Very shameful government, sometimes I wonder what we were all smoking when we voted for them.
Brugo: Which Jonathan? The jonadàft who auctioned Nigeria to ipobs?
The one who went uninvited to RCCG to kneel at the altar and collect blessings before resuming the massive looting of the nation? The same Jona that refused a political debate but chose D’Banj and SeyiShay to interview him? The same Jona who gave Abacha a posthumous award right after teenage boys were slaughtered in their hostels by Boko Haram? The one who went dancing and celebrating right after the Nyanya bombing? The same Jona who said Boko Haram are our brothers? The one who came down south to collect blessings from traditional kings with their staff used for curses? The same Jona that dangled the 2nd Niger bridge at the noses ipobs for re-election? The same Jona that denied the Chibok kidnapping until it was too late? The same Jona who refused the help of UK and US intelligence to rescue those girls? The same Jona who gave Dasuki money for security to share among his cronies?
Abeg, forget Jona. He was an aberration.
Well said and nice post, we quite agree with you, at the time, Jonathan was bad and we all voted en mass for a 'change' we desperately needed and afterwards for 'next level'....but please sit down and reflect deeply, is this government not worse? A regime that keeps blaming its predecessor for any blunder or act of incompetence even after almost 5 years in office? You might not admit it but many people including the likes of Daddy GO have, hence this anti-government protest camouflaged as a prayer walk. We all make mistakes in life and must learn to admit them when it matters most, voting for GMB was a grave mistake.
hooha: Today you hear of bridal shower, lovely wedding, wedding in Dubai, men in Black, she is my queen, he is my hero, bla bla bla. Then tomorrow, you hear of divorce: she is a devil, he is a dog, he is a wife beater, she is a beast, I didn't know she was a witch, I didn't know he has STD, bla bla bla bla. That is why you really need to do a proper check before you marry. In those days where many people were good, you could easily pick a guy or a lady, and marriage will work out. But today that is filled with hypocrisy, you ought to be careful.
I will show you things that you mustn't skip before you marry your fiance or fiancee.
(1) Test of Love: Until you love and get loved, and until the love begins to flow without energy, before you can say you are good to go. If you still put pressure trying to impress your partner to love you, please pause first. Something is wrong somewhere. But when the love flows sweatlessly and selflessly, then you may proceed to marry.
(2) Test of Fidelity: Some people love, but they are promiscuous. But promiscuity is not a characteristics of true love. So if your partner is a promiscuous cheat, pause the wedding. You can take the person for spiritual rehabilitation or deliverance before you proceed with wedding.
(3) Test of Time: Everything, no matter how sweet, palatable and enticing it may look like, can only be validated with time. So no matter how you love your partner or how your partner wishes to marry you, give it the test of time. Give it time to see if whatever you feel or whatever is shown is real. As they normally say "time will tell".
(4) Test of Peace: No matter the sweetness of any relationship, if there is an internal tension of the mind, please go back to God to ask questions. Until you have true and persistent peace, don't marry that person. When the peace is sure, go and marry.
(5) Test of Availability: Whoever tells you there is time for love and time for serious business is not a good partner for you. Love has no schedule! Until you have much access to enjoying your partners availability, don't marry. When I talk about availability here, I don't mean that your partner may not be in situations were you cannot access each other, but even when such situations come, you will still see the urge to be together; not that he or she will be operating an intentional love on schedule.
(6) Test of Tolerance: Until your imperfections are swallowed and until you are able to swallow the imperfections of your partner, don't marry yet.. It is good to have a large heart, but if you find it so difficult to take some things from your partner, do not marry yet until you are able to take it. Marriage is a very long journey.
(7) Medical Test: Don't assume your partner is good and you trust yourselves. Seek necessary medical tests before marriage.
May God help you to have a successful marriage with a God-fearing person.
@OP: We hope your house and its environs are well secured because some of those you are rejoicing not seeing at Ikeja under bridge anymore may soon start coming over to your axis to pay you and yours untoward visits in order to eke out a living, it is then you will understand the consequences of this government's decision and mind you, the governor will not save you...when the C-in-C of your country cannot even save you, is it the governor that will? You better always have a holistic view about a situation before you take a position.
