I don come with my wahala again, but that's the life of a first timer taking care of this wahala called car.
Well I successfully put my ride back in shape but here are issues I'm now facing:
1. My MIL(check engine) light was previously blinking anytime I drive, but after some mechanical works today, it has stayed put any time I'm driving. I browsed the internet for some info and found out a faulty airflow meter usually causes it. Actually a part of my airflow meter is broken anyway due to the accident, which makes the car make noise like trailer.
Was told an airflow meter goes for about 10k, bear in mind I reside in Taraba state.
2. Anytime I drive, my drive D keeps blinking, even after refilling the transmission oil with 1L of transmission oil, as i saw on the net as well that it's the commonest cause of a blinking D on the dashboard. Wetin una think?
3. Sometimes the car goes off itself while driving yesterday, and was diagnosed today as one of the plugs being faulty. Had the whole 3 of the front plugs changed today and it hasn't gone off itself since then. But there's this low sound it makes while it's on idle, as if it wants to go off, before going back to it's normal sound again. This sounds is worsened anytime I switch on my AC. Make una epp me check am out!
4. Finally the Brake light keeps showing, despite the Brake working perfectly. This is giving me serious concern as the info I got on the net says it means the brake isn't working as it's supposed to. Checked the "master slender" as they called it for the brake oil, and saw the brake oil is reduced. Yet to top it up, but I go still like know weda anything apart from brake oil fit cause am, to be prepared before hand.
Thank ya'll for the comments in my previous post. Abeg make una epp me put mouth for this one too ooo!
Nagode soose!
your car is being scanned with a basic scanner or its just guess work
1 MIL but stay on (as indication that something is wrong) therefore you need to pull out the code through scanning
2 Forget about what you browsed, aslong browsed with a specific code you are at the mess of all DIY information on the internet, yes part of air flow meter is busted but let a code direct easily that browsing blind
3 Blinking of D is specifically something to do with gearbox, get it scanned with a right scanner that can scan your gearbox module aka brainbox of the gearbox
4 As for the brake sign check all relatent parts see if there are ok then clear it and see if it pop up again
chukel: curious as to how you will be having transmission issue without any code. Don't go and wreck that car. There is no way you won't have solenoid codes if the issue is in the transmission. Which oil did you replace it with. How many litres did you put there
what i have noticed is that some people dont scan the transmission ECU they just scan the engine ECU thinking it will pull up all codes from both ECU
some scanners are basic they only scan the basic from main ECU and some cant even scan ABS or AIR BAG there a customer can be told that there is no transmission code due to the fact that the scanner is basic
then a common thing i noticed from nigerian car dealers in my town they go buy the cheapest car they can get from auctions and 99% of these cars have lots of faults and warning lights, instead of buying the parts to fix higlighted by the warning lights, they take off the instrument cluster a put a black tape to block the warning light (check engine light, abs or air bag) if you buy such car it will take you ages to figure out that your check engine light doesnt turn on when switch on the ignition, you will assume to say everything is OK becoz there is no check engine light or other warning lights
Good scanners are not cheap and people refer to go where the price for scanning is cheap and the chances of the scanner being a basic one are high
radautoworks: Sigh.. I didn't want to shalaye for him so here you go.
Again, I disagree with him but he's one of my best that's why I'm hoping he's right for BarrSly's sake.
"Yes, from is explanation, that's possible. But I don't rule out anything. If this particular fault occurs only when the gear is down shifting, then the valve body. The ECM shouldn't be completely rule out too. Though I didn't ask what type of transmission. That is why I generalized it to be a chassis problem. A single jerk when break is applied can not be transmission. Oh! I see why he's mad at me"
ately1: nothing bad with accidental car na.. is like reviving scramb cars to normal car .. we Nigeria don't like to waste things. that is why we buy and rebuild them to normal car.
nice transformation ..
oyibo people like to waste things. we naija no dey for that one. bring the accidental car. we Go work on am. well..
buying accidental cars no mean say the car go get accident later. if you buy am na. ..
they dont waste but there are other factors involved that you dont consider due to how african countries vrs the west work
1 in the western world time is money, people get paid per hour so hours spend fixing the car are not worth it the insurance would rather pay you off than getting the car fixed
2 some damages are beyond health and safety standards the accident would have damaged the structure integrity of the car, therefore putting you at risky
promotervickky: Hello friends, as regards Vehicle History Checks on VIN, what can we do about accidented cars that was refurbished in Nigeria?
Could there be any system or structure whereby we can collate reports and form a Nigerian database?
Unfortunately most African countries dont have database for accident damaged cars
I think this is due to LACK OF ENFORCEMENT of insurance, in the WESTERN WORLD no car should be on the road without insurance, eg in UK some police car read your number plate automatically and if your are not insured the police stops to investigate further. So in most African countries there is less or zero enforcement. If the enforcement is effective it would be easy to report every accident as the involved parties would want to claim or report the accident therefore automatically an accident report is generated on the cars involved
Also insurance companies should have a data base they share among themselves and also share that with CENTRAL VEHICLE REGISTY of the country
So i think 1st is to educate people about having insurance mainly how it protects you from rackless drivers, they damage your car due to their faults they pay through their insurance, insurance keep data of all reported accident involved cars and what sort of damage was on the car eg in UK there are categories, there is one where the car needs to retested (after being fixed )for road worth by an official from relevant authority
So in Africa we all lack the enforcement and collection of data
radautoworks: I posted it verbatim because I know they call things by different names here or did you miss the quotation marks? I said I think it's the transmission but hope I'm wrong for his sake. Let him check. Best case scenario, we are wrong and it's a cheap fix. Worst case scenario for him we are right.
yes i know that they call things different but normal it would in direct translation eg wheels aka legs
yours is more like calling your head your foot, i believe we still educate people like we do with ECU we put in bracket as (brainbox) meaning we would taught someone the right/technical/orginal term for something
radautoworks: One of my techs has a different opinion that will be cheaper if he is right. He says "This fault is from the chassis, a part is shifting when the brake is stepped on. from the front chassis. i.e any of the arm". I disagree but worth having someone take a look because transmission is more expensive. I hope he is right.
do you really know what is a CHASSIS ? or you just take any rubbish you are told by aka kazeems?
back to what he said, someone already mentioned it,its sounds like the trasnmission is failing to download smoothly
with automatics, if you are on a crusing speed lets say 45mph and above your would be likely in 3rd gear and above and when you press on the brakes to slow down the car downshift to a lower gear this should happen smoothly without jerking
hence we suspect that something is not right with your gearbox 1st get the transmission scanned and see if anything comes up
when was the last time you did oil change on the gearbox ?
play the videos to understand, you will notice thats most car has two o2 sensors one before the catalstic converter and one after
these monitors exhaust gases meaning the 1st o2 sensor measures values of exhaust gases straight from the engine then the 2nd o2 sensor measure values of exhaust gases after going the Catalytic Converter (cleaning process of exhaust gases) those reading from the o2 sensors should be within range specificed in the ECU if not thats will trigger a check engine light that might be related to o2 sensors or Catalytic Converter
so a missing Catalytic Converter can trigger the ECU to increase fuel ratio therefore your mpgs can drop
rhythyson: Yes Engine number, Chassis number colour etc.
You all these details will be in the vehicle license.
Or has the process changed?
releality is the system is out of date
"WHY ?"a car will carry its VIN number for the rest of its life even with any modification then whereas the engine can be changed many times during the course of the life of the car hence the engine number is not necessary during registration
engine is necessary when aquiring parts especially from the dealer
BUT if law requires you to do so then you have to find the engine number
alatbaba1: My boss just got this Toyota Corolla 2012 toks for his wife the engine temperature gauge, engine RPM and Speedometer are not working. AC is working normal and fuel quantity gauge is working too. The power steering light is up, abs light is up too and madam has already fallen in love the the car. she does not want us to return it. pls anyone with there I can get this fixed in Abuja and idea about the cost. The car seems overpriced and he is considering sending it back to the dealer. He is not ready to pay heavily for the repairs.
do you want a simple solution?
For me i would take it back to the dealer and let the dealer sort out the problem than trying get your own mechanic and sort it out
captainking: i am not a car guru but these codes are pretty clear and straight to the point...cylinder 4,5,and 6 misfires...the random cylinder misfire will clear when all misfires have been fixed...
It seems your catalyst is weak ...get ready to replace it or use oxygen sensor spacers for this if you cant afford to change the catalyst at the moment
it also seems your oxygen sensor is weak or bad too..
all codes are related
you might be wrong on the o2 sensor
since we have already a misfire from 3 cylinders in most common cases that will trigger o2 sensors since misfires causes fuel not to be burnt etc the o2 sensors will pick it up and throw a code
so the solution is to sort out the misfire 1st if sorted then clear the o2 sensor code then see if o2 sensor cames back
Wilson5183: Please how good is Honda Crv 2004 in term of fuel economy. Because the honda crv car I have always consume fuel and I dnt under where the problem is coming from.
Can someone please assist me understand why?.
its pointless without the figures
you need to give us for information eg engines size, petrol or diesel and then finallly manual or automatic
then the most important is your figures based on your driving eg full tank gives you such mileage within city driving or highway driving
Jovannyj: Plz I need help My toyota camry 1999 model gives me the p0401 code, ie, EGR insufficient detected. I noticed my EGR modulator was stuck (air wouldn't pass through), the modulator was changed. However the code remains. Then I had to take a look at the *throttle body* attached to the manifold, and I noticed that I can't also suck air from the two hoses from The throttle body that leads to the EGR Modulator, is it supposed to be so, isn't those lines suppose to be free for air flow? Please I need help
when you say it was stuck was it full of carbon deposit or becoz you couldnt move it yourself ? remember is opens and shuts electronically via ECU command
Realpal: Please, I have a question for married guys and engaged couples. I hope I'm in the right section. How do I find my life partner? I'm 36+ years old, independent and I want to get married, but I don't even know where to start. My parents subtly suggested to help, but I rejected their offer, because I don't want an arranged marriage. How do I go about this on my own? My pastor advised singles in our church to meet him, if they're seeking for a woman to marry. Is it advisable to look for my future wife in the church? I need help, please.
For me the fact that you are asking it means you havent met the one and not ready
when you mean the right one you will feel it your self that this is the one to marry, no will advise but the thought will come on its own
BornToSucced: Recently I have been scouting for a wonderful lady to settle down with.
On two occasions, I met some cool looking ladies, only to be told they are married. However, I noticed something, the two women never wore their wedding ring.
My latest encounter today was the funniest. So I walked up to this lady and we got talking, only for her to tell me she’s married and the husband was actually inside a car that was parked beside us. So I told her I never knew she was married since she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring.
Lo and behold, the husband just stylishly came out of the car, by then I’d already excused the lady and left.
Mehn..........I was just laughing at myself after the whole thing.
So my question, is it not important for married young ladies to wear their wedding ring to public places?
unfortunately you see marriage world in your tunnel vision
1 not all married people follow the western world using the rings to show one is married
2 The ring doesnt stop anyone doing whatever they wan,t in this case cheating
3 With or without a ring, its the respond and interaction that will make you notice that this woman is married or in serious relationship
Fhowe: I am talking from my own personal experience and the solution that was applied and to be honest I drove that car for 4 years before selling it off . Now I have a question does this thermostat also work when the car is off and parked ? Cause I noticed something in my present car the fan suddenly comes on by itself when the car is off
the thermostat only works when the temperature reaches the opening state which between 86-90 degrees, this when it opens to allow cool coolant from radiator come in while hot coolant got he radiator to be cooled and to be let in on the next cycle
meaning the same cycle remit itself aslong the thermostat is opening at it opening stage aka between 86-90 degrees
in normal setting the fan will only run after the thermostat open, in theory thermostat open 1st then fan run to cool
Fhowe: you said earlier you know little about cars , I believe in practicals . A car was delivered to me at Ondo state and this car was purchased at Cotonou the driver brought the car and gave to me at Akure . When I started driving the car and switched on the ac it was overheating until I took to my Kazeem , the thermostat was removed the fan was put on permanent and they checked whether the fan was blowing outward by putting a nylon on the condenser it was actually sucking it instead of blowing it away . After the fan was made to blow in the right direction my car temperature became normal I used that particular car for 4 years before selling it off ,from my earlier post I was referring to radiator as condenser my mistake though ,most of all this guys on nairaland forming car gurus know nothing I have actually met some in person and I was disappointed with their misleading post and ads they put up here , you think they know it all but they know nothing I won't mention names but please be guided
You got more to learn
Normal Fan should suck in Air from outside aka sucking air to the radiator, meaning its sucking cold air to cold hot coolant which is coming from the engine, remember in a normal manufactureer set up the fan which only kick in after the thermostat opens, when the thermostat opens it means its letting out hot coolant from the engine to go to radiator to cool via radiator meaning hot coolant flows from top top bottommof the radiator and yhe fan kick in to help the coolant to cool by blowing cold air from outside, therefore the rotation of the fan should suck in air from outside and this system should work the same whether the car is in Alaskla or Saraha no fan should suck air out of the enginebay to outside
its always sucking air i to the engine bay through radiator to cool the coolant or cool your refrigerent aka AC
fineboynl: it's couldn't be a lie. split AC fan for example is blowing the condenser Reverse. but who the window unit is blowing outstanding.
Fan on car draws in cold air from outside to pass through radiator fins to cool whatever liquid is in radiator which mainly coolant and air con gas
Whether in cold climates or hot the fan is meant to work in the same direction of spin aka the direction of spin that draws in air from outside
The only different due to temperature is in hot climate a car can quickly reach operating temperature, than a car cold temperature
Yes a fan is designed to have a direction that draws in air but it doesnt mean you find a radiator fan that blows out air from the engine bay to the outside NO
A fan works the same way whether you are in Sahara or Alaska the only different is that in Alaska your fan will rarely kick (run ) due to the fact that outside temperature is also playing part cooling the engine block, whereas in Sahara outside temperature helps in reaching your operating temperature quickly and your fan will be more kicking in more regular especially in slow moving traffic or at idle
Fhowe: Oga when I say polarity the fan might be blowing in reverse or normally , and engine operating below the normal temperature is at disadvantage so in colder regions the fan is made to blow in reverse to put the engine at normal temperature it does not go out of the engine bay through the radiator.
justiniyke29: is the bleeding something i can do myself? and if not, how do i know the mechanic has bled it well?
yes you can if the bleeding nipple is there if not you open the expansion tank cap or the radiator cap and let it idle while the heating system in cab is on high
justiniyke29: So we finally got a hose at the spare part market at fagba, though it wasn't the correct size so the excess was cut off. After fixing it I paid him off and started the car, it was already getting to 8 by that time. I had not driven for 20mins when I noticed the temperature was rising up to 100 degree and I was like who did I offend today? Parked and opened up the bonnet and saw that the engine fan wasn't working again ( I still don't know whether it was the fan stopping that burst the hose or the bursting of the hose that spilled hot water on the electric fan and spoilt it). So I had to result to what I learnt from my dad. Opened the radiator cover and waited until the temperature went below 60 then I topped the water and started without closing the radiator cover. Brethren that was how I was starting and stopping till the man of God reached agbado oo. This is my first experience with over heating and I pray that it's the last.
Tomorrow I am going to change all the water hose to new one or good tokumbo, cause if one failed the others can. Am just thankful it didn't happen at third mainland bridge
it over heated becoz of an air lock, when the a new pipe was installed you were meant to bleed the system, i understand that it was on the side road but he was meant to be patience let the car idlle while you bleed aka letting out the air into the system
what you need to do know is properly bleed the car otherwise you ended with blown head gasket
Aanumi16: I think your fan is running direct and your thermostat has been removed.
Even if it is like the temperature should be around 50/60 degrees
something faulty 1st check temperature sensor or gauge
but the easy method is to check temperature reading via scanning to see if the temperature sensor is sending the reading to ECU, if it is then it might mean that something wrong with gauge on the cluster
what i have observed here it seems like most people dont understand the cooling system of a car, they think the thermostat is for the western world due to cold which is not true, The thermostat is there to maintain the operating temperature irregardless of the outside temperature/climate aka cooling and maintaining a temperature that give better mileage per gallon/litre without causing any temperature change damage to engine block over time
sultaan: But ECU does not just for like that, something else had happened,I am working strictly on the premise that all he did was take out a spark plugs and replaced it with another. If he had disconnected the battery prior to working on the car it is likely to start rough. I like to keep things simple. It seems Nigerians replace ECU more than their engine oil. I have never had a problem with one in 20 years of driving
Very true, i have seen 100s of post where people are advised to change ECU over a simple
its seems like mechanics/rewire in nigeria fry ECUs of all the cars they touched
9icetoo: At the bolded, not so true. I've had a thermostat stuck closed on my skoda. Had same symptoms as OP. The needle always rested above the middle line on highway trips but stayed on the middle line in town. I changed the thermostat and it stopped happening. The thermostat had a bypass which still allowed coolant to flow but wasn't allowing enough to flow at highway speeds with engine working hard. Water pump can also cause this.
your are wrong
yes a fully stuck thermostat will cause overheating whether the car is idling or crusing
zaza999: I don't know why for close to three years now,I am always the one to initiate love making with my wife. She can stay for weeks,no attempt.Unlike before, such moves do come from any of us. The attitude makes me not only feel unwanted but I assume may be she don't have my feeling anymore. The irony of it all is that during the process, she will be the one that enjoys it most, moan to the highest with different kinds of display as if she was deprived sex for long. What should I do.
its a very simple issue
1 talk to your wife, tell her that it would be nice and sexy for her to also make the 1st moves
2 Tell her that it would make you more Hot if the starts the game and it would also make you feel wanted
3 Tell her that her initiating is also her own way of showing she feelings for you
4 She shouldnt feel shy to show her sexual feelings to her man, explain to her that you are not old skol that judge women based on the fact that a woman who initiate sex have loose morals
5 You are now married there is no holding back if now feels to have it go for it
adesanyadotun: I observed that my Camry 2010 has poor fuel economy. When scanned it was observed that fuel efficiency is fine while in motion but very poor at stationery. The exhaust line has been checked and panel says no leak. The exhaust tail is clear, no black. What could be the course of the poor fuel economy.
please show us the results from you scan
especially the poor fuel economy at idle aka stationery
adesanyadotun: When in motion , the temperature guage goes above middle but in traffic it comes back to normal. Car newly acquired The fans working directly Water level in radiator not reduced I noticed a sign of radiator sealant at the edge of radiator opening. Thermostat still there Toyota brand
Please what could be wrong and what should I do?
i think a picture would do much talking
Normally if the car as its thermostat and relay controlled fan, if in traffic and coolant temperature rises, the thermostat will open to let in cool coolant from the radiator into the engine, then your fan kicks in to help the hot coolant coming from the engine to cool down. "Dont be fooled by those who say this system is for Western World due to cold climate" this statement is from Kazeem mechanics who dont understand optimum operating aka best temperature to get maximum effiecent from an engine without damaging it, running an engine at cold aka anything under 70 degrees is uneffiecent and also damages the engine in the long run
Your car is doing usually opposite, most cars overheat in traffic due the the fact that there is no air flow the radiator due the car being stationary
Since yours overheats during driving it might be a headgasket gone, why becoz there is more heat generated during driving aka at high RPM than in traffic were your RPM are low
Just let a good mechanic check all possibilies that might cause overheating
