Car Talk / Re: Why Do People Buy Expensive Cars? by eledalo: 6:58am On Dec 27, 2017
What is important to James may not be important to John.
The same way there are people who own every pair of sneakers but no car. They just like it. As long as we're not in North Korea and you're not adversely affecting anyone, do what makes You smile when you wake up in the morning.

Deeldorado:
I doubt that ranking reflects the reality on ground. Yes, large enterprises can easily access credit on the back of their asset base but SMEs who are the main drivers of employment-creating growth find it difficult to access credit. Besides, the cost of borrowing remains too high and is stifling Enterprises.

Which large enterprises?

I understand now what Trump called Fake News.

Well done to Jumoke Oduwole, she has forever publicly identified herself as one of the ineffectual buffons in this lying, scam called APC government. Instead of sitting quietly.

When it comes down to it, most Nigerians, however high the offices they occupy are usually unrully, impetuous and aggressive at the slightest opportunity.

The woman (especially) and the Kwari guy can't take turns to speak to the Vice President, even with others watching

And these are the people running a government for 180 million people.

I am surprised that this is the way differences are ironed out in the highest offices in the land. I expected better.

You expected better? From a country that has been sliding backwards from time immemorial?
Please adjust your expectations quickly

The Patrol Team Trailed the Vehicle, when the Occupants Suspected they were being trailed by the Police, they abandoned the Vehicle & took off.

The story has holes in it. The suspects abandoned the car and "took off".
How did they "take off"? On foot or with another car?

Took off running? The police that were trailing them in cars couldnt catch them on foot?

God should manifest himself by you doing your child/ward's homework?

Truly everything is faulty in this country when you can proudly do someone's assignment, come to proclaim it proudly in public and then have the audacity to mention God.

You are a liability.

Disgusting.

Crime / Re: June 17th To 21th: The Incredible Story Of How I Survived Kidnapping by eledalo: 12:54pm On Jun 30, 2017
Go outside Nigeria for one week, and you will realize that it is a failed state.

I feel sad for the country that kidnappings are a regular occurrence. In saner climes, an event like this would be national news! Kidnapped, bound, blindfolded, starved, beaten and drugged!
How can someone be kidnapped and go through this ordeal for 4 days? But in Nigeria, it happens so regularly. And this is to a salesman, just trying to make a living for himself. Who then is safe?

I've never said this before, but I think it's true: Nigeria is a failed state. The elected President is incapacitated and speaks to one section of the country in his language. The acting president speaks only in rhetoric. Governors plant flowers and buy 50 seater buses every year. Citizens face kidnap, torture and extortion by other citizens.

Well, we may expect some changes in the coming weeks/months.

Uber's CEO has just resigned, under pressure from shareholders.

I often wondered, why did Uber have that knee jerk reaction to taxify's reduction in fares? No they're struggling to exit this very strange hole they've put themselves in.

Why because they are deep shit this lady could be keeping in her cupboard, if a lady can lie about something as non-trival as a certificate, what about more trivial issues like genotype, friends, age and the rest of it.

Marriage should be built on truth, the worst I can stand is lie, how would the husband take it when his wife comes back late from work and tell him she got stuck in traffic, would he believe her? if no, now is the time to call off the marriage. A broken relationship remains cheaper and more stress free than a broken or unhappy marriage.

my 2 cents though

Good points made. However, you should look up the meaning of trivial, you have misused it here.

Mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick dies in boating accident

Mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Bonnie Kalanick, has died in a boating accident, a company spokesperson said.
Travis' father Donald Kalanick, was seriously hurt in the incident.
An email sent to Uber employees said that Kalanick's father is being treated at a hospital.
Kalanick's parents, who went on frequent boating trips, were on Pine Flat Lake in Fresno County, California, when the accident occurred.
Our thoughts are with the Travis and the entire family at this was time.

Good to see the protest today! Uber Drivers organised themselves around Lagos - Lekki, Ikoyi, Surulere.
Let's see Uber do the right thing for both sides - riders and Drivers!

Taxify did not have the driver numbers to force Uber to reduce prices. Besides that Taxify has bigger issues in getting customers - riders cannot even pay by card using Taxify. That is is one of the things they need to focus on if they are looking to increase demand.
And drivers are not exclusive to Taxify or Uber - most drivers on Taxify are already on Uber!
Besides do you know that surge can be turned off and on by a simple click of a button by Uber? It is not some type of magical automated system. I wish I could say more on this but it would jeopardise other things.

For those saying that the rates don't matter, please consider this - in 2015, Uber's marketing tactic was 'Earn 150k a week using your car' and it was very possible. Today check what their highest earning drivers are earning in their weekly email - below 100k- and you know those are even inflated figures! Do they even publish that anymore? grin

Sadly Uber may be destroying its own business with its tactics. Not only is it earning less by reducing its prices, it will pursue better cars/drivers from its platform which means less revenue per trip, and fewer trips overall.

Ho ho ho! grin

Uber is now accepting 2003 cars! So your 2012 corolla is now on the same level as a 2003 matrix. Don't be confused o. Uber is looking to quickly fill the large gap that will be created as more and more partners run away from the platform.

And For those taking about surge today: it is NOT due to increased demand via rider numbers o! It is due to reduced supply in terms of driver numbers!
Let's see how it plays out!

Business / Uber Partners & Drivers: Response to Uber's 40% Rate Reduction by eledalo: 5:46pm On May 04, 2017
I created this thread so Uber Drivers and Partners can coordinate a response to the recent 40% reduction of fares by Uber. It is very important to organise ourselves in this instance before it is too late. Delay is dangerous.

A little while ago I posted this:
eledalo:
Uber, Uber, Uber... grin Does anyone remember when they were taking ML Benz for UberBlack! Only Big boys came for inspection at that their office in Ikoyi grin . You'll see like 20 mad cars blocking that close waiting to drive inside! Inspection na light, wiper, fire extinguisher, jack, spare tire, go and wash your car, Finish. Some guys will now collect 20k to give you name of driver to pair with LOL! Workcenta/Jobberman made money!

Even Uber X was for SPECIFIC 2009 cars and above only, with all sorts of documents needed

Now its any 2005 4 door car. grin And no more UberSelect. Imagine if you had decided to build a business using new Kia Ceratos on UberBlack/Select. I went to meet my bankers for big loan. . .them too they were happy LOL! Thank God for all my mentors and big homies who advised me against it. . . had I gone ahead, I might not be here to type this! If you want to enter water, use your small toe first!!

If you can buy Uber shares, please do so right now (April 2017). Cos its only at those that exit during their IPO that will make any return. I wish all Uberers the best!

Please note: Oladele by name. (Eledalo backwards). I am a former Uber Partner. I left the platform in December 2016 following the 'rate discount' they applied, with a promise to top-up the balance. They didn't and i could see this was going to affect my business in a BIG way. I invested heavily into Uber and had 10 cars on the platform. Not 1, 2, 4 or 6 cars o. 10 cars. If someone slaps your face and doesn't say sorry, rest assured he or she will use a cane or belt soon. I left soon after that.

This morning, Uber Nigeria announced NEW RATES for their service in Lagos. Fares have been slashed by 40%. Obviously this means reduced earnings for partners/drivers but how they react remains to be seen. See new rates here

Uber did same in Kenya but reversed when drivers protested.
Existing partners & drivers need to come together at this point and plan out a course of action.
Join the existing facebook group:Facebook Uber Lagos Partner & Driver Forum
and stay up to date with Uber/Taxify news Uber Africa Forum

This thread is not to get partners/drivers to leave Uber, Taxify etc. Uber has provided thousands of jobs for young Nigerian men and women. Let's get them to do what is right with Partners and Drivers. It's confusing that a company with such a great opportunity would waste it like this!
