PhonesRe: How I Lost My Phone And Lessons To Be Learnt by athorello(m): 11:33pm On Jul 21, 2016
I feel your pains bro.... I lost my phone first ever this year in port, infinix hot note. Funny part was that I'd just switched off the location service so when I logged on to phone can't be found unless the last seen location, date and time it registered. It got more painful when I had to dole out 28k in this Buhari economy to get infinix hot 3 that turned out to be of wack performance. Anyway, management till Baba God of olowo gives more grace for a major upgrade.
I'm happy that with the current technologies and cloud services anything retrievable can be retrieved. I dey back up on infinix site and google like I no wan miss class.

Na same uniben wey I graduate fromhuh
As someone rightly stated before it's all jargons that 500l law students are supposed to be familiar with.
From my observation though, the lecturer set the questions in such a way that there's a very thin line between having a C or D in this course. If you read the course materials well you should be able to answer two questions but if you really read wide and understood the lecturer you get at least a B. A first class student like myself will be able to get an A by answering 3 questions comprehensively.

EducationRe: ASUU Rejects Scrapping Of Post- UTME by athorello(m): 12:16pm On Jul 19, 2016
OK.. It's simple... Prospective students have to apply to their schools of choice by paying an application fee and presenting all necessary documents and results. On the other hand the institution should verify documents and set their individual admission criteria based on the standard tests or exams (JAMB-UTME, WAEC, NECO, etc.) as well as conduct telephone or face-to-face oral interview if need be. They can even prepare a comprehensive questionnaire for prospective students that will help them to understand the candidates more. This way, all this tussles between FG and ASSU will be reduced. Schools need to be competing for students.... Make higher education attractive and competitive please! More jobs too since the schools have to employ enough reviewers.
Shey na money wey the problem? Owo ni koko!
CrimeRe: Police Charge Unmarried Man With Adultery, Collect N10,000 Bribe at ATM (Pic) by athorello(m): 10:46pm On Jul 18, 2016
My uncle is a PS but my hatred for this naija police keeps growing. Always mad when I see some on black looking haggard and hungry collecting #50-#100 on the road. Imagine, I met my uncle to help get an agent refund my money so he consulted one of his friends in town to help. When the guy, came around they they started discussing how they operate based on yahoo boys things and the man concluded that policeman no good. Mehn, I gave up. The guy started dribbling me like mad cos my uncle is outstationed and I finally let them be. Anyway, the agent refunded the money but I lost 5k to him.
Ffwd sometime in October last year, I was on public transit when we got to a police checkpoint. I was sitting close to the door with my bag and they ordered me to get down. Two of them were standing by so one was searching me while the other moved on to other passengers. Once he saw my laptop (PTDF receiptless), food done don. I immediately remembered my guy who's been advising me to get a receipt. Anyway, I immediately manned up to them. "Is this laptop yours?", "yes". On it... Ok! My pic on display on the lock screen. "Enter your password"... Viola! Desktop displaying arsenal 15/16 team photo. Ok! By now they have left every other person...."Ok go see that officer inside our van across the road". "where your receipt? "oga this laptop doesn't have a receipt, it's federal government property". "oya find us something". "oga I don't have anything to give you, unless I have to call my director". That's how they started demanding for money until we got to 5h. "officer, na only one five dey ma wallet and I no fit give u 5h". Then several threats followed... They'll take me to the station, they'll ask my bus to leave, I'm an armed robbery, this is bush, and so on. I was just calm and smiling all through. The other passengers were agitated and some with the drivers started begging them, some pleading with me to give them 5h. Thank God they didn't reason my phone and with my bag and laptop in their van, I took some steps away and called my director. My oga, a gentle man only asked me to ascertain my location and where the police were from and said I should follow then to the station. He also asked to speak with them but when I walked back to give them the phone they all refused. In the end, they returned my bag intact after wasting almost 30 mins. I was just smiling and laughing inside with their background remarks: "Na so una dey do because u know one or two persons", "comot from here fast".
Somewhere in my mind I know it was a risky venture cos we were in the middle of no where....same road I've heard military men threaten a guy in my bus that we are nowhere, they can finish him and hide him in the bush, nobody will ask. I promised myself never to carry that kind mind in such environment again.... Another time I had to part with 5h to one of the policemen attached to a bank after I almost fought a bank security over phone usage.
Anyway, I still know some police officers on personal basis that I like and respect so much: my former landlord during nysc and my uncle. Peaceful people but people always say you can't trust them finish.

(forgive my Nigerian English, I always struggle)

Whoever is viewing this post, I want to update you that I now have two options. Either to use a lawyer or an agent since pursuing the LA myself may take years of cumbersome effort. The lady who linked me with the agent is in the advance stage already, i.e, will soon be called to the magistrate court. According to her those who have been pursuing retirement or death benefits via this particular agent have mostly been successful.
I have an appointment with the agent today.
I have gathered some info that I will share later but I still need inputs. Am I on the right track?
It's sad that I'm FTC on an important post in nairaland space though this is my first thread.

I believe Nigerians write differently than they speak (GRE, Toelf, IELTS, etc)... I don't mean "online chats" though. We used to have these series of technical presentations in my former place and they were all replete with all the Op stated.
A white coach even pointed to one of my colleagues that Nigerians like using words though she had more vocabulary in my observation. Anyway, her point was in line with the Op and we even call ourselves by the one each person uses most.
For me "actually", 2 "basically", 2 "as in". Op literally missed this my bombastic friend, "...what?"... As in "...is when you what...", "...and by doing that I'm trying to what..."
You also missed one senior colleague who I met, "what's called". As in "...that is when you want to move into what's called..."

For all I care University produce premium graduates for the workplace whereas polytechnic produced just graduates... Lol. So, there's supposed to be a demarcation...two separate mandates. However, Op raised a thrashy thread because none of the positions hold water. I don't know why you should be comparing apples and oranges in the first place.
Nairaland GeneralObtaining Letter Of Administration In Delta State by athorello(op): 8:22am On Jul 16, 2016
Hey guys, I want to know your advice with regards to obtaining a letter of administration for someone whose popsy was a civil servant and didn't leave a will.
I have surfed the net for some relevant info including some old threads and also spoke with a magistrate court registrar who gave me some headups. He promised to link me up with a lawyer.
Guys, I'm skeptical about my options dues to non familiarity with legal fees I may have to part with and how fast I can get the LA with or without a legal adviser. Can I do this within 3 months?
Your candid opinions will be very welcomed cos I have taken much time to start this process due to my tight schedule on a previous project.
Thanks.

Christianity EtcRe: Olawale Elisha: "Eunice Breasts & Head Were Removed According To Crowd" by athorello(m): 2:02am On Jul 13, 2016
Who's to blame for this? The blood thirsty morons of course but the husband and wife threw caution to the wind. I hate it when you have a bad premonition about something and the worst fear still came upon you. The husband could have shared his worries with other senior colleagues not just the wife. That was why she lost guard. Talk about watch and pray. Anyway God knows best. R.I.P Dcns. Eunice... May God console your family and His church.
Btw, some women get mind like mad... There was this my Pastor neighbour who recently moved out. The wife is very gallant with the gospel. She'll do morning cry in like 3 to 4 different spots in my street from about 5 to past 6am with a very protruding pregnancy till the very morning she gave birth. Everyone agrees she's more spiritual than the husband. God bless our good women.

Mehn, that your 4 year old is a bad guy.... Watch out for him. I have a little sister like that, our youngest girl. Her teacher used to complain. They pick stuffs up like pro. The teachers only need to put in extra efforts to bring them out. Those kids are wise o... You can even encourage him yourself. When family members, friends and strangers come around, ask him to go greet them if he's shying away. Also ask him to do recitations for you in their presence. If they come with kids ask him to go play with them. Inform him of the teacher's report and impact on him. In fact it's not a threat to tell him he'll repeat. Watch out for your kid... He's set to always top his class in the near future. Smh for peeps who tie their kids especially 2 years upwards to their body in church instead of encouraging and releasing them to the children's church.

CareerRe: The Illusion Of Big Pay: Nigerian Oil & Gas Workers Ain't Exactly What You Think by athorello(m): 10:07am On Jul 05, 2016
Op did a nice write up about the current realities of oil and gas workers. Thank God I've been opportuned to interact with several of them and wish to be one of them some day. It's not die cast because I'm open to opportunities. Anyway, most responsible companies have come to terms with the these realities and are doing lots of sensitizations and other programs to enhance healthy work life balance, wealth management, etc before and after retirement. I must also point out that living planless and above means is subject to an individual regardless of occupation.
However, the let down for street boys like us is that oil jobs automatically cut your away from a large part of the community, friends and family. Only selected few have an idea of where you work. You'll be living in the most elegant part of the city, attending porsche church parishes, most expensive clubs, rarely visit the village, and so on. The only alternative to remain street is to meticulously hide your identity, no glamorous dressing, Kpako car, no celebrity church, hide the identity of your businesses or locate your investments in a different part of the country or another African country, etc. The only discussion about your job is "Na company work I dey do". Lol. This can continue until you make enough money to float a mega business or go into politics and resign. Who won't like thishuh Lol! kiss I've met these two categories of persons but sadly the vast majority are living the former lifestyle.

That's how two of my colleagues and I lost two tabs and a phone in ph. We're all new to ph and have heard several stories but this still happened to us almost a week apart. No one can really explained what happened. My friends tab was in his bag which was still intact. As soon as I came down from the vehicle and attempted to cross over I discovered my phone was gone. I've always been careful but maybe I was distracted by the babe with me. I've had to come down from several vehicles, some with with loose doors like the op case. We only have to be extremely careful. God pass this people sha.

Wike is working... What I noticed in phc is that he's well praised for continuing and finishing some Ameachi's work. But last night I decided to take a stroll and saw the amount of preparation with all the security personnels and vehicles lining the street, I only smh! Anyway, maybe cos I'd never liked the road construction work right from unset.
Anyway, general observation, many Nigerians are suffering from GEJ's hangover just as some people in rivers state are suffering from Ameachi's hangover.

Christianity EtcRe: The First Monotheistic Religion In Nigeria: Igbe Religious Movement by athorello(m): 7:05pm On Jun 09, 2016
The Niger Delta style dance, "avbo, avbo" has it's root not far from here. Most of the early prophets and prophetesses where once Igbe priests. As a kid growing up I used to love their dance with their drums... Always like to star at the large mirror in the Ogwa... Wack correct Owoh soup with yam. Sometimes I think if I can still do all those stuffs again. But naija, yes I can.
I for one condemn no religion. I know most of us fantasize more about Buddhism and other foreign religions but give little thought about our traditional religions. "Juju", fear... What am I even saying? We're all Christians.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: N-Power Teacher Corps: FG Begins Recruitment Of 500k Unemployed Graduates by athorello(m): 4:31am On Jun 09, 2016
Sure-P that I waited indefinitely for their reply after application. Meanwhile some guy's name will just be in one private school register or is residing in warri and doing Sure-P in lagos but was earning between 50-80% of the monthly allowance. The politicians and private sectors were only leaching the economy.
N-Power sounds more robust but they should tell us the modalities on ground for it not to be high-jacked.

A wise company I know of does evaluate the success of any of their CSR program by the percentage of participants that have been truly empowered (gainfully employed, self employed, have completed studies and/or proceeded on advanced studies, etc). Also, what are the gains to the company in terms of reputation and percentage of participants that have been absorbed and performing.
So, the FG can take a leaf and not just pumping money.
N-Power!

Christianity EtcRe: Is Tithe Card Necessary Like We Can Find In My Church? by athorello(m): 1:41pm On May 08, 2016
Without quoting any specific Bible verses, this is my take on tithing.
If I must tithe it mustn't be according to the leviticus order with blessings and curses reeled on a Sunday basis from malachi 3.
I should give tithe like Abraham as an act of reverence or hounor to God. Mechizeldek, Prince of Salam brought food to Abraham on his way back from war and blessed him. Ab then gave him a tight of all the war proceeds. He didn't even take anything from that war but use it to "epp" others ministries.
I can also give my tithe as a vow like Jacob (Israel). This implies that I can even vow more than 10%. Is there a pattern since jk didn't pay like Ab and we don't know if Isaac paid or not.
Anyway, that's that.... It's left to you. I give mine the way I like it. Though most of the churches I attend do card things, I don't save when I was an usher during nysc days and I do keep the records too.
Whether tithe card is necessary or not wait until a contract or job opportunity is announced in church and they said if u have so so and qualifications meet Pastor so and so and bring along tithe card, baptismal certificate, letters of recommendation and so on. Some will only remember the first and forget the rest. Maybe your Pastor never tell u b4 say wish u meet so and so requirements I for send ur name to Mr. X and this for done pure. You see you have to take God and church more seriously.
Na only God dey position some of us.

CrimeRe: Kidnapped Rev. Father Adeyi John by athorello(m): 12:40pm On May 08, 2016
I've been wondering why MoGs move about with huge security escorts. Also, I've seen some people bring police escorts to church all the time.
So, after church today I noticed a tag on one of the free transport busses, "Mopol Escort", as if trying to reassure the users of their safety. What the hell? It's Port Harcourt!
Immediately I reasoned that a good city transit system (buses and trains) will go a long way to alleviate the security situation. We need city buses and trains with well defined routes and installed centralized traffic control and security systems. Our so called big men and ogas at the top will no longer have to be afraid of the people they are supposed to be serving. They can go about their businesses on train or bus ride.
Also, we need village, city, state, interstate and federal police. NPF should be discentralised asap.
May God deliver His Rev. MOG!

I've lost touch with JWits. They were weekly callers at home while my dad was alive. Used to read their books and journals like mad. Library is still stocked with many of their literatures. Yeah, that's back then but I still have many of them as friends. On the average, jw has some of the best behaved folks as a religious organization.

All I care for now is my jw girl. But our love is yet to permeate religious boundary. According to jw, ur associates should not just respect your beliefs. They must hold them too. But to me, understanding and respect with love is key.

I'm now more of a church decentralised Christian though I currently hold my stronger ties to rccg. Formerly dlbc. I have my parents church (ccdc, don't ask me) at home, Salvation ministries half of the time this year. Winners, blw, ag, cgm, Baptist, Anglican, the apostolic faith, et al are places I do or have been to not forgetting the various campus fellowships back then (Gtan, dlcf, tlt, rcf, cfi, e-life, few others). Never been to Catholic, cele, church of christ or even jw (Kingdom hall). Who else is like me?
