Christianity Etc › Re: What Is The Essence Of Feet Washing in the church ? by bixton(m): 5:28pm On Feb 28, 2021 |
Princewell2012: Happy Sunday to you all. Let me make it brief.
In John chapter 13. from verse 4 He riseth from supper and laid aside his garments, and took a towel and girded himself. 5. After that he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel where with his was girded.
Let me stop here, what actually is the essence of these?
Because some today's churches are doing it very often, and my feet have also been washed several times in the church. But I believe something is missing somewhere.
To my own understanding I think Jesus was just trying to emphasize about sharing and caring with each others as a Christian, I don't believe he gave it as a practice or a commandment for us to be washing our feet physically when ever we are gathered in the church.
Am just confused, does anyone knows a better meaning For these. Even those mega churches do practice it too.
Shalom. Why don't ask the pastor in your church where your feet was washed what it means before coming to ask if it's in line with the Scripture |

Don't just sit in your house with no information and expect yourself to have a good judgement. I remembered Apostle Johnson Suleman once criticised those that have private jets. When his ministry grew, same him came on to apologise that he never knew until he was in some situations and wished he had one. I watched the video. Please answer this question....... You spoke about their work schedule How great is their work schedule compared to that of Apostles Peter and Paul |

Enskynelson: How many times? Try and find out how many times some travel out of Nigeria in a year. Since u seem to know, u can let us know the exact number of times. The OP comparing a ministry that owns no Church to other ministries that have Churches is not right. An evangelist is different from a Pastor. Billy Graham was an Evangelist. OP should stop comparing how he achieved his goals with how pastors did. What is the meaning of a pastor and an evangelist? What do you mean by a ministry? Who truly owns a ministry? How did Christ Jesus went about walking the streets, roads, mountains, hills, etc, etc.....preaching the gospel of salvation......... Try reading your Bible? |

QuotaSystem: Dangote's refinery will definitely be a game changer for the Nigerian economy.
What a genius strategy. Imagine a scenario where other African countries would be looking for Nigerian Naira in order to purchase Nigerian Petroleum Products. It would increase the organic demand for our currency thereby boosting its value significantly.
This does not make sense. There is no way Dangotes petrol would be more expensive because not only has the issue of landing cost been eliminated since we're no longer importing, but the market has also been deregulated (which is why we suffer price hikes whenever price of crude or USD rises).
You're right about elimination of subsidy which will save us significant amounts of money, but even greater benefits would come from saving millions of USD daily that would have been wasted to import refined petrol (a whopping 41% of our forex saved) : further boosting our foreign reserves and the value of the Naira. The multiplier benefits from job creation and development of allied industries to support the refinery and petrochemical plant are better imagined.
Finally, the disgraceful economic anomaly wherein the 6th largest oil producer in the world is one of the biggest importers of petrol from less endowed countries, and continuously suffers whenever crude prices rise instead of enjoying the largesse like fellow oil producers, will finally come to an end thanks to Dangote's refinery. I wish him the best and I'm excited for Nigeria. Deceitfulness to those who choose to remain gullible.. It's just a matter of time and Russia will rise. |

12 Let them give glory to the Lord and declare His praise in the islands and coastal regions.
16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness into light before them and make uneven places into a plain. These things I have determined to do [for them]; and I will not leave them forsaken.

24 Who gave up Jacob [the kingdom of Judah] for spoil, and [the kingdom of] Israel to the robbers? Was it not the Lord, He against Whom we [of Judah] have sinned and in Whose ways they [of Israel] would not walk, neither were they obedient to His law or His teaching?
25 Therefore He poured out upon [Israel] the fierceness of His anger and the strength of battle. And it set him on fire round about, yet he knew not [the lesson of repentance which the Assyrian conquest was intended to teach]; it burned him, but he did not lay it to heart.

Isaiah 21:13 13 The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Arabia: In the forests and thickets of Arabia you shall lodge, O you caravans of Dedanites [from northern Arabia].
14To the thirsty [Dedanites] bring water, O inhabitants of the land of Tema [in Arabia]; meet the fugitive with bread [suitable] for him.

I try not to hold biased views when I read or do research. But from the numerous documents online there's no actual verified facts to that as to that geneology. It's based only on assumption.
Now if you are being honest you will realise that God specifically made a convenat Ishmael.. So don't compare Ishmael to the rest of Abraham's other children unless you show proof where God specifically made covenant with Abraham other children
It's just plain english and easy to understand. When God made a convenant with Abraham who did God speak to?
Yes...God made a convenant with Ishmael but did God speak directly to Ishmael or his mother in making the convenant ?
Genesis 16 11 And the Angel of the Lord continued, See now, you are with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael [God hears], because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your affliction.
12 And he [Ishmael] will be as a [b]wild ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man's hand against him, and he will live to the east and on the borders of all his kinsmen.

Myer: Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?
If Yes, give your reasons. If No, give your reasons. In topics like this it's better you do a wide research or have an extensive knowledge of it rather than seeking out opinions or based on hear say. So you can balance all arguments for or against. Now to the topic........... The God of the Christians/Jews is not the same as that of the Muslims. Reason is that if they have the same God then certainly there won't be 2 different Holy Books and Prophet Mohammed's name certainly would have find his name in the Holy Bible just as they have the names of the Holy Bible Prophets in the Qur'an. Another view.......... Isaac and Ishmael are sons of Abraham. Abraham to Isaac to the point of Jesus Christ one can actually trace the geneology/family tree with ease. I may be wrong....... But is that the case from Abraham to Ishmael to Prophet Mohammed( knowing he is the only Prophet to be given the message)? Is there any historical proof that Prophet Mohammed is a direct descendant of Ishmael(blood line)? Another is why would the same God raise up 2 different religions; to what purpose? Remember Abraham had another wife after the death of Sarah and she also gave him children. Certainly God's promises on Abraham covers his blood line first and by extension every other person that believes in it. Why is there not another religion from the child/ren of Keturah to buttress their point? Those who are historians/theologians compare the spread of Judiasm/Christianity before the time of the Roman empire and do same likewise for Islam during the time of Mohammed? |

MaxInDHouse: Hmmmmmmmmmmmm you're truly a wise student!
Now think of the different versions Janosky posted, surely they were all in English but from different translators. That's exactly the same thing Scribes does back then, they copy the scriptures and since the original Hebrew language Moses spoke with the Israelites in his own time wasn't understood anymore by some of the Israelites after returning from Babylon, the Scribes need to translate from Hebrew and Aramaic to Greek. Don't forget that if you and i were given the same write-up to translate form either Hausa, Ibo or Yorùbá to English we must apply our own understanding to the best of our knowledge in delivering the job.
That's why you can't find the scriptures exactly the same way because each Scribe (copyist) will have to apply his own understanding. The same thing applies today! Remember others are reading our comments.Try not to bring confusion even in this simple thing. I deliberately used transcribe and translate . I hope we all know what it means to transcribe. Let's move to translate........ Let me tow your line of knowing....... Translation is not (necessarily) in ones understanding but ability to interpret as it is or something nearest/closest to it's meaning or most appropriate word as said in waec english exam. Assuming you understand Ibo language though I'm not from igbo...........so I may be corrected by those who know the language better. I boola chi//// I saa la chi ......it's a typical greeting. MaxInDHouse: According to the Bible itself the converts that comes from Beroea were more noble minded than those from Thessalonica. WHY? They didn't just believe what the Apostles were teaching them simply because the Apostles performed miracles rather they cross-checked the scriptures to be certain that it's true! Act 17:11
Do you think those Beroeans will only read the scripture copied by one or two Scribes? NO! They will certainly compared and contrast the works of different copyists before coming to conclusion. Because as at that time the Jews themselves were contradicting one another over who the Messiah (Christ) will be or what he will stand for. So it's not easy for a new convert to know which copyist or Rabbi is teaching the right thing and the Christians were also coming up with yet another form of teaching that's different all together! That's why you need to compare different versions of the Bible to ascertain what the big book has for you! I try as much as possible not to assume certain things. The Bereans studied the Scripture that's what is written. There's no history that tells anyone that there were several versions of the Scripture as at the time of the Bereans. What was the language of the Bereans and in what language was the Scripture written as at the time the Bereans were doing their Scriptural research? Greek was the dominant language so the NT was written in Greek. To make the Scripture in written copies giving access to those of that era certain persons were appointed to transcribe the Original. Every other copy made from the transcribed falls into the version referred to as a translated copy which gives us the different versions you speak of. |

Janosky: JWs wholeheartedly agree with Jesus Christ at John 14:6... John 14:6 is a clear proof Jesus Christ is NOT the only true God, John 20:17. Probably it's our usage of english at times and our individual interpretations leading us to understand. I can liken your bolded statement as an interpretation from you in order to explain to me. It's the same way those who stand by the Trinity interpretation in trying to make an explanation known. Maybe I'm mistaken but I do not think Jesus Christ called Himself God or equated Himself to His Father. The instances where Jesus says "I AM" is an attribute of being in ONE-NESS with the Father. We will all only err in our interpretation/understanding but the Scripture can't be changed. 1Cor.8.6 - yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. Phil.2.5 - Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, Phil.2.6 - who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, Phil.2.9 - Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, That is not to say that the Trinity interpretation is not correct. It only depends on the context of which it is been explained. There's only One God and Jesus is His Son. |
