PoliticsRe: How Awolowo Opposed The Creation Of The Midwestern Region in 1963. by bjdon: 9:55am On Jul 01, 2023
This is why I was laughing when Tinubu was telling Edo's not vote for Obaseki. Anyone who knows history, will know that Edo people will rather vote for a goat in the market, before they listen to any Yoruba man. Edo no be Lagos.
PoliticsRe: Edo 2024 - The Reality by bjdon: 9:47am On Jul 01, 2023
There should be no zoning. Let all candidates present themselves and may the best win. Our sister state, Delta has been zoning the governorship across the zones and what have they got for it? Delta is a total mess. Please let's do away with outdated ethnic thinking, and select next governor based on merit.

PoliticsRe: Stakeholders To Tinubu: Hasty Economic Reforms Worsening Poverty by bjdon: 8:45pm On Jun 29, 2023
IfnobeGod20:
How would a government punish the downtrodden because of the few cartel that are not more than 2% of the population? Please where lies the sense in that? Or are we saying the 2% are more powerful than the government the people elected to see to their affairs, including providing good life for them. No single sense in all you people alluded to. How would the few be more power than the government? Meaning we are not running a truthful government. Until we build a strong institution, before we can have headway. All these panting the so called cartel at the backs for doing the wrong thing against the system, should be the thing of the past, else they regroup and fight in another way because of the resources at their disposal.
It does not matter if they are 2% or .02%. Their actions were bankrupting the country. Have you not seen the massive amounts that were being spent on so called subsidy? Do you not also realize that it's due the corruption with petrol subsidy that none of our refineries were working. For your information there are cartels all over the world. In the US it's the arms and weapons history(Otherwise known as the military industrial complex).
With the subsidy gone, local refining will now take off (BUA, Dangote, others) and eventually the cost of PMS will come down due to competion. The nation will also save MASSIVE amounts of FX which will help the exchange rate.
I will agree though, that the govt should very quickly provide relief to the masses

a tinubu supporter spotted. Stop disguising.
I have no need to hide or disguise anything. The simple truth is that once we consider politics with a mature mind, not childish emotions, you'll find that no leader is either wholly bad or wholly good. They are all somewhere in the middle. Obi, Tinubu or Atiku, either of them would do things I agree with, and things I will not agree with. We should learn to call out the truth at all times.
PoliticsRe: Stakeholders To Tinubu: Hasty Economic Reforms Worsening Poverty by bjdon: 1:25pm On Jun 29, 2023
I don't like Tinubu
I think he lost the election and rigged his way in
I hope the courts eventually throw him out.

Having said the above, I support this moves on the economy. Whatever you say about Tinubu, we must admit he's a 'player' in the Nigerian game. He understands that there are cartels in this country who have been making Billions of dollars from the old structures around subsidy and FX. if you waste time, they will find ways to block any attempts at reforms. He had to act fast before they could organize themselves to fight back. Yes it will be painful, but hopefully things will start to lookup, especially once Dnangote and BUA petrol starts to hit the market. There can be no genuine reform without some pain

This is one of the reasons turkey is blocking their bid to join NATO.

As a Christian, I don't support the burning of quran
I agree, and I believe no true peace loving Christians will support this. However the fact remains Sweden is a liberal country and they do not take religion seriously. I would advice our Muslim brothers and sisters to ignore this provocation.
PoliticsRe: Abdulrasheed Bawa Moved From DSS Headquarters To Private Facility by bjdon: 3:46pm On Jun 28, 2023
Whatever he may or may not have done, the rule of law must be followed. What gives the DSS the right to detain people without charge, without access to their lawyers? Those doing gra-gra today will be ones behind bars tomorrow. We've seen it all before in this country
PoliticsRe: Subsidy On Professional Bodies Removed by bjdon: 11:32am On Jun 28, 2023
ede1:
One important question Nigerians are not asking is thus . After removing these subsidies can the government give us both short-term and long-term plans on what to do with all these funds realized from the removal so we can monitor the judicious use of it?

Or they are just creating more funds to be embezzled.
What funds? Don't you see how much the government is borrowing? Nigeria is effectively bankrupt, our revenue is not enough to meet our spending. All these measures will only help to reduce the borrowing.
PoliticsRe: Nuhu Ribadu Assumes Office As National Security Adviser (NSA) by bjdon: 9:02am On Jun 27, 2023

Another square peg in a round hole angry

What exactly is a police officer doing in the office of the national security adviser?
What is his combatant experience?
What is his war experience?
grin grin

How will army Generals , Navy Rear- admirals and air force Air vice marshals honour a meeting summoned by a police officer?
grin grin grin
Modified
Ribadu lacks the knowledge, training, education & experience in domestic, foreign, & military policies related to national security.

Most of the directors and other senior staff of the NSA are military men, will ribadu dismiss them? or place them under his command as a civilian?
Ribadu is also politician who took part in the APC primaries in the last election, he still have his political ambitions intact and remains a politician....a card carrying member of the APC.

Fingers crossed
The NSA is not supposed to be a military post. Its more of a strategic, coordination post. In the US, this post is mostly occupied by civilians with expertise in intelligence, strategy and international affairs.
We've had military men in that position fir years, and the country has never been more insecure. Let's try something else

PoliticsRe: I Want Tinubu To Start Addressing The West Like Ruto, Kagame, And Ramaphosa by bjdon: 9:49am On Jun 26, 2023
You can't give what you don't have
Tinubu could not address Nigerians during the elections
Tinubu could not address the audience at Charternham House

How do you expect him to be able to address international conferences/summits. He should have just
sent Shettima.

I say it again Tinubu is a smart man. The Tinubu of 10 year ago, would have been a Lion of Africa and would have made us proud. Sadly father time has not been kind to him. He needs to run the next 4 years more as the 'Chairman of the board' and allow his subordinates do the heavy lifting, even if that means some of them outshining him

Nothing to worry about. Senate President Godswill Akpabio will simply declare their seats vacant and it will be enforced immediately. Bye-election will be conducted and loyal party members will be elected.
They will not defect to PDP, they will simply vote with PDP, the same way the Saraki group did.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Refuses To Give Speech, Sends Representative Instead. by bjdon: 11:26am On Jun 23, 2023
Grayoso:
Yes Tinubu has health challenges but he is nowhere near as debilitated as Stephen Hawkings who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the prestigious and premier University of Cambridge till his death.

What Tinubu has to do is work fast, never waste even a second, and genuinely empower ordinary Nigerians with executive, constitutional and legislative reforms the wicked and evil enemies of Nigeria will not be able to reverse once delivered.

For example, security is sacrosanct. Tinubu should work to defeat insecurity permanently by giving all regions the total freedom and latitude to protect themselves optimally.

If State policing will be expensive, since many Nigerian States are struggling, then he must bring in regional policing that is affordable for every region of our nation and would instantly defeat what Buhari created where, as a painful example, Fulani herdsmen militia, including those not even Nigerian, caused havoc across the South and our nation raping, maiming and killing innocent Nigerians.

Those sort of things should not be happening when we can bring in reforms to end them.

Serious, progressive and peace-loving regions can secure themselves optimally without a compromised presidency tying their hands, while empowering their assailants, as Buhari did.

It is an awful aberration, and a failed state index, that illiterate and savage herdsmen, from all over Africa, can be armed with AK47, prohibited by Nigerian law, while I struggle to legally gain a licence that will allow me to own a pump-action shotgun.

These are the sort of things Tinubu has to move quickly to rectify. They are not Rocket Science issues and the President Nigeria needs does not have to be a genius.

I think he/she just need to be a fairly intelligent, authoritative and well-supported leader who will 'go there' to free Nigeria from evil people who want billions in the bank while most Nigerians do not even have 1k in their account.

I personally can follow such a leader to any level, for the sake of my children and generations unborn, because , as Martin Luther King Jr put it, “If you’ve got nothing worth dying for, you’ve got nothing worth living for.”

Tinubu is aware of his own mortality also. That is why he is giving Nigeria the 'tough love' leadership he knows will liberate us and unlock our potential long after he is gone.

Awolowo's leadership continues to speak for him after death. Kwame Nkrumah's Akosombo hydro-electric dam continues to be a mainstay solution for Ghana's electrification today long after he left this world.

What lasting and 'teach a man to fish' transformational solution can OBJ, Jonathan and Buhari claim to have delivered in comparison to the Awolowos and Nkrumahs of Africa?

The West is only better than Africa because they plan for the better and improved existence of civilisation across generations, and beyond the life of any individual, while Africans only care about today and fail to understand the concept of how we will all depart this world meaning the greatest gift we can deliver is to leave our geographical spaces in better shape for those coming after us.

I believe that is Tinubu's mindset he does not even need more than 3 years to achieve if well-supported by Nigerians and the world.
I agree and like the way he's started as a 'Man in a hurry' He needs to keep up the pace of reforms. Like you say 3-4 years is enough for a focused leader to implement some critical reforms that would really move the nation forward.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Refuses To Give Speech, Sends Representative Instead. by bjdon: 7:58am On Jun 23, 2023
We saw all this with late Umaru Yardua. Its sooo sad that we are repeating it again. A fit and healthy Tinubu would actually be a good president. He's got the brains and the vision and the tough character. The problem is he's not fit, he's clearly got early stage parkinsons (hence the shaking) The medication to control that also has side effects. Hopefully we can get through 4 years and then step down, having achieved his life long ambition

Congratulations to Bendel insurance of Benin.
Its time to rename this club from this "Bendel" to something else.
In those days, I remember Bendel insurance use to have a rival club, I can't remember the name now, they both share same stadium then, just like Inter Milan & AC Milan in Italy.
I don't kwn if that club is still in existence.
it was NNB (New Nigeria Bank) The team that produced the likes of Stephen Keshi, Henry Nwosu, Bright 'Ten-Ten' Omokaro....
PoliticsRe: Possible Verdict Of The TRIBUNAL From All Points Of View by bjdon: 7:58pm On Jun 22, 2023
From what I've seen, Obi has not proven beyond a resonable doubt that he won the election. At best the Rivers result may be overturned and the state awarded to him, but that will not be enough.
The FCT 25% issue might be the strongest case the oppostion have, but even if the courts rule in their favour in that the outcome would be to order a run off election between Tinubu and Atiku as the top 2 candidates.
PoliticsRe: See How Much I'm About To Buy Dollar What Did We Do To Apc by bjdon: 11:30am On Jun 22, 2023
Nigerians need to GROW UP and start understanding how REAL economics work. The strength or weakness of a nations currency is directly proportional to how much that nation imports. In Nigeria we practically import EVERYTHING and apart from Oil, hardly export anything in significant quantities. What do you expect would happen with the Niara in such circumstances? Untill we reduce imports and increase exports nothing will change. The currency will continue to get weaker

A lot of the issues between Igbo and Yoruba are pushed and fanned by politicians. At personal level the 2 tribes actually get on quite well, with lots of inter marriages and joint business ventures.

Abeg abeg abeg.
Emefiele was once the overseer of Zenith bank and at that position, your remuneration runs into billions. If you don't believe me, go and verify. So him affording to build this edifice is not out of place for a former bank MD.

Emefiele deserves whatever he is getting now. But that man already had basterd money from his career.
So right. If they have a case against him, charge him to court, but they should stop this useless propaganda. He was a very senior executive at one of the biggest banks in the country of course he will have a massive house. That proves nothing.

PoliticsRe: Worst Southern Christian Better Than PURITANICAL Northern Muslim – Shettima by bjdon: 2:13pm On Jun 12, 2023
What a hypocrite. He was happy to be number 2 in a Muslim-Muslim ticket, but now wants to block another muslim from becoming number3. For me I don't care how emarges as SP as they are all in it for themselves, but what nobody should try and use religion or tribe to blackmail anyone. With the Muslim-Muslim ticket for Pres and VP, it's now open season. if SP and Speaker end up being muslim, so be it. That may even be the best outcome to knock sense into the thick heads of those southern christians that voted APC

Stop this una blackmail. So una suddenly discovered that a Muslim Muslim ticket was not ideal thing, but sake of say una parochial political reasoning of winning elections, una push am,🤣🤣🤣 and now una wan use am blackmail Yarihuh
Yari has every right to contest for the SP seat just like every other person including Akpabio.
What we are after at this point is competent and not religion. So, it does not matter anymore, even if, all the political office holders today are Muslims, after all, Christians are sale-outs and useful-idiots.
100% agree. You can't say with one mouth that Muslim-Muslim is ok fot president and vp , but Muslim for SP is not OK.
From now on let all throw their hat in the ring and may the best win
