Career › Re: My Banker Friend Quit His Job To Work In A Car Wash by bjdon: 3:18pm On Aug 07, 2023 |
Battlefield2: Seriously, I'm pained right now,how can one decide to be stvpid and senseless at the same time Before I begin, I swear to God who made me, this is not a lie, this is a true story....The story may seem long
So I have this friend, a close friend that works in a bank in Lag, he lives In his family house because his parents are late and he earns 70k plus, though he complains every now and then that the salary isn't much, if he collects salary by month end, before the 10th of the following month,he is already calling me for help on transports and all that and once in a while I help him with 1k or 2k to take transports and all that.
Last weekend,he was discussing with me on WhatsApp about car washing business, telling me it's lucrative and all those....I didn't pay much attention to it until he called me on Thursday and started crying...I asked him the problem,he told me a cousin of his sweet talk him into car washing business that it is lucrative and he can earn as much as 5k a day washing cars and he dropped the bombshell
He told me he sent in his resignation letter on Monday and Parked out of his family house telling those ones that he has been transferred to another branch, he moved to the one room apartment the car washing company provided to him n 3 other guys and started work. He said he hoped in his mind that if he can make 5k a day, he can save as much as 3-4k daily and that is a big improvement to the bank work
The reason for the lamentations now was things are not the way his cousin told him,he said since last week Monday up till this moment, they have only washed maximum of 3 cars per day and at the end of the day, the owner only gives them 5h each in which he used for eating. I requested for video call on Sunday and he is seriously looking lean and unkempt
He apologized that he didn't seek an advice from me or anyone before taking that bold move, he told me he is seriously depressed and wants me to profer a solution to him
Problem now is,he told me he is ready to quit the work and come to a different state that I am in other to restrategize.....I don't know what to tell him because I don't have much too and I'm struggling too because I'm sure if he comes,I will be fully responsible for feeding and all that Moreso,I can't tell him "No" because right now,he has no where to go,his parents are late and he has already packed out of his family house rendering him homeless, moreso he is my very good friend
So I seek an advise from you all Pls advise me, I'm confused! Tell him NOT to come to you. He's a full grown man and needs to take responsibility for his actions. I will strongly advise you to cut this guy off from your life. People like this are drains on your energy. Remember there are only so many hours in the day and you need to spend them totally focused in YOUR life and progress. It may sound selfish, but tht is how succsful people make it. They are totally focused on their plans and goals, to the exclusion of everything else. |

I totally supported Obaseki in his fight against Oshomole, becasue I detest this whole God Father syndrome (I had earlier supported Oshimole in his fight against late Annenih)
If Obaseki now tries any kind of move to impose his successor he can expect a similar kind of fight back from the people like me. We have made it TOTALLY clear that the days of God Father's in Edo state are over. Obaseki should complete his term and go off and enjoy his retirement. |

I guess the evil midget is going to be Power Minister.
All this is noise as usual. If govt is SERIOUS about power this country the answer is simple, allow the private sector run all parts of the power system, for generation, to transmission and distribution. Dangote, Otedola...etc will never build a power station if the gas supply to said statin is not guaranteed. Indeed all of Dangote's industries have their own power plants. As long as govt is involved in this , it will never see the light of day |

We have to be very careful when dealing with the issue of coups in the francophone nations. Many of these nations have very real problems with French oppression and these coups are partly a reflection of that. Also the so called democratic process has simply not worked in many West African nations (Including our own). If the civilian administrations, provided the basics for their people, there would be no space or support for the armed forces to take over. |

TimiofEde: Thank you for taking your time to explain this in such a civil manner and not like the uncouth helinues who'd rather throw jabs and insults.
With regards to your explanation, are you saying that we the yoruba moslems will remain eternally subservient to the grand children of uthman Dan fodio? Why can't we elevate a yoruba moslem to a position that rivals that of the sultan? Someone who can help us sight the moon without waiting for the fulani sultan as this has made the fulanis very arrogant and condescending towards we the yoruba moslems. The whole situation of the Sultan being the 'Head' of Muslims in Nigeria was done by the British. There's no historical reason for this, as it was not the Sokoto Caliphate that brought Islam to the SW. Yoruba Muslims need to stand up and demand equality. |

colossus91: So I currently work as a system admin in a new generation bank where I earn almost 500k while also having a side hustle that pays me 400dollrs monthly, I’m thinking of relocating as my sis and her husband have been on my case to migrate, I am in my early 30 no serious relationship just figuring if japa is the way cos my remote job actually pays me better if I’m here than leaving just need advice on this. Here is the best advice I can give you. Take some vacation from work, even if it needs to be some unapid time, at least 4 weeks, better 6 weeks. Go and visit the intended country you want to Japa to(I assume it's either Canada, US or UK) Make sure you go in Winter(As you have a good job, getting a visitors visa should not be a problem). When you get there observe how people live, how hard they work, what their social life is like. Observe all these for yourself, then return to Nigeria, and be totally honest with yourself on weather or not that life is for you. Only YOU know what is right for you, people telling you to either go or stay are simply reflecting their own personalities. Make the choice for yourself, but be armed with all the relevant knowledg and facts. |

The usual load of rubbish from those who do not want to face the issues. Is it the IMF that prevented our 4 refineries from working properly? Is it the IMF that facilitates large scale staling of crude oil from Nigeria? Is it the IMF that allocates over 70% of the federal budget to running the National Assembly?
Please let's stop with all this nonsense of blaming the IMF or 'The West' for our problems. WE are the cause of our problems, nobody else. |

Education › Re: No Student’ll Graduate From Uniabuja Without Having A Registered Company – VC by bjdon: 2:34pm On Jul 25, 2023 |
Another stupid Nigerian official. What does registering a company have to do with students getting their certificates. Is it everybody that wants to work for themself? Is every course geared to self employment? Should somebody that studied petroleum engineering, go and start digging for oil in his/her backyard? Nigerian officials seem to think that once they have power over people, by dint of their office, that somehow gives them the right to just come out with any kind of dumb ass policy. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu Hugs Deadline, Replaces 4 Names On Ministerial List by bjdon: 11:58am On Jul 24, 2023 |
Why do they have to wait for the WHOLE list to be ready?
Surly he could submit names of a few KEY ministers like Finance, Budget and Planning and Energy, to get those people confirmed and in place as they their roles are critical to the economy. The rest of the list can then come later. How can a country that is supposed to be the largest economy in Africa go for 2 months without a finance minister in place? We joke too much in this country |

gabmanuel: 1... A woman's money is her money, but a man's money is the money for the house/family
2... A woman will almost always chose her siblings and her children over you.
3... A woman will always be comfortable with her family members staying around, but will never be all happy if it's the other way round.
4... Never tell your wife about all the money you have, because her demand will increase.
5... As a man, be ready to spend and double your hustle because you must provide ooo, whether nah Tinubu or Obi wey be president.
6... Be ready to always tolerate and forgive, never allow any issue with your spouse to cross 24hrs, irrespective of who was wrong, peace is paramount.
7... You will be considered lucky if the both of you are ready to learn, relearn and take corrections , because in marriage, you will keep seeing new things from both parties.
I think if people should just be behaving the way they were during Dating/courtship, there won't be much issues.
NB: There can be 1% exception. Number 4 is VERY important, it'sCRITICAL if you are a Nigerin man abroad. You MUST have some funds that only you are aware of. Sadly it's the way it is theses days |

kokorokoman: I am an edo man like you, the truth is we should accept we made a mistake by electing this useless man, he has successfully taken edo back to 1999 again. Except you are deceiving yourself, every ex governor in Nigeria dictates who succeeds him, the same obaseki you fought for will assume the post of godfather and force his choice on us when his own tenure expires. Let's acceot our mistake, there's nothing like freedom and self respect in edo state under obaseki. The guy has modernized agberoism and given them uniform. My brother I will not argue with you on that point. All Iam saying is that it was OUR choice, and next year WE will elect his replacement. That's the beauty of democracy. Dey play. Totally Cool. There are many developed places that are run by corrupt dictators. China and Russia spring to mind. It's all good. If you guys are happy with that deal in Lagos, no wahala, truly no wahala. We in Edo prefer to elect our leaders at the ballot box, not have them imposed on us. We may be poorer than Laogs, we don't have the infrastructure of Lagos, but we have our PRIDE. Nobody can impose a leader on us. Even the all powefull Tony Annehi who was imposing governors and senators all over the country, could not impsoe a gov in his own state Edo. That's how we roll. |
