PhonesRe: How Much Can I Possibly Buy Iphone 6S Plus? by Bossman(m): 4:00pm On May 22, 2023
yeah. The bottom line is functionality and productivity. As long as your device does what you need it to do efficiently.

sEGXY2:
I use an old generation iPhone SE. I got it for only N30k. I’m a crypto guy so I run apps like meta mask, Binance, trust, discord, phantom. Not just that, I also use Social media heavily. These are all high end apps. The phone runs all of these apps smoothly. Never lagged.

If you try what I do on most mid range android there’s a high probability that it’ll start hanging after a while. Only high end android phones can run all conveniently.
Let me also add that it takes very okay photos.

So why should I splurge over a hundred grand on an android when I can carry out tasks more efficiently on an iPhone 6 or SE which is around 30-40k?

It's a monthly subscription service. So, you have to pay monthly whether you need/use it or not. The only other option is to cancel the service. That's how monthly subscriptions work.

Snart303:
I must pay every month for subscription ? I can’t choose to opt out at any point in time ?
PhonesRe: A Nairalander (cyrax1) Scammed Me On Monday by Bossman(m): 3:41pm On Apr 27, 2023
It's good to be weary when something is too good to be true. The price should have alerted you to that. That's way too low a price for that device. That alone indicate it's very likely fraud. Sorry for your loss.
PhonesRe: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 4:48pm On Apr 23, 2023
And majority do NOT have 450K to spend on internet. This clearly Buttresses my point. The price point of the device clearly eliminates most from being able to purchase. Hence, the reason it will not pickup in Nigeria. The few of you that can afford it...enjoy!

Stanley08:
If you have 450K to spend on Internet, you also have money to get a powerbank that will keep it on.
PhonesRe: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 1:47pm On Apr 22, 2023
I agree. The need for 24 hours electricity is a huge factor. No power means no internet. As I have posted here multiple times...until the power situation in the country is resolved, the country will continue to lag behind. Everything runs through electricity. Constant electricity is critical!
Bonzojoko:
another reason it's not popular in Nigeria aside the kit price is the whole you must pay in dollars thing and the need for 24 hours electricity. To some, buying starlink means they also have to buy an inverter plus battery and solar panels. We are able to buy it because we already own a means of getting 24 hours electricity. I am not complaining since more starlink users in Nigeria will lead to network congestion and slower speeds which will bring about the 1tb peak time monthly fair usage policy

They got to you via your IP address. Your ISP linked your IP address to you via all the information you gave them when you registered for service.

toluxa1:
No think am oo. A few years ago I downloaded one movie that was still in the cinemas via torrent. A week later I got an email from the ISP that they got a report of illegal download of their movie from me the client (with the exact title of the movie stated) with plenty of threat of fine if it repeats itself. They said they will let it go because it was my first of such but subsequently, they will involve law enforcement bla bla bla. Since then I have been careful with torrents by making sure by VPN is always on. How they even got my email still beats me. How dey link the whole thing to my identity till today still baffles me.

There are embassies in DC, NY and Atlanta. Take your pick...none of them that does not involve stress of some sort. As you will have to travel there for fingerprinting. Here is the link for the Atlanta one. You can google the other two. I personally have always renewed in Naija when I am there. The embassy also go to some major cities to do mobile passport services. Check their websites for dates. My brother renewed his a few years ago via that means when they came to Chicago. Also, if you do not have an NIN, you will need one. So get that done first. You can get it done at some locations in US, including here in Chicago. Google for it.

Hello all, has anyone tried renewing their Nigerian international passport in the US recently? My passport expires in August 2023 and I want to know how & where I can renew it without much stress. I am currently living in Missouri. Thanks.
PhonesRe: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bossman(m):
Just do as already posted. Run LAN cable connected to the starlink adapter to your second router in living room. I'll suggest you give the WiFi a different name from the starlink WiFi. So that you know exactly which one you are connected to. In case you need to trouble shoot something.
That TP-Link router is not dual band (2.4/5 Ghz) though. So you'll only be getting connection on the 2.4 ghz band. I will suggest you invest in a dual band router so that you can get similar speeds as you are getting on the starlink router's 5GHz.

georgee:
I don't want to bypass the Starlink completely.

I want to have network up in my room where the Starlink Router and ethernet adapter will be sitting, then network cable is already run from my room downstairs to my sitting room where I want to place the TP-Link router and hope to get a more decent speed too

My TP-Link model is TL-WR841N

TravelRe: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by Bossman(m): 6:07pm On Apr 04, 2023
Yes, it will fail NIN verification. On your passport Renewal application try adding the names exactly as matching on NIN. That may get flagged that the name on the form does not match what's on the old passport. Otherwise, you can do an NIN modification to match what's on the passport. In my case, which is similar to yours, I just changed the NIN one to match.

flashinglights:
My passport expired and I want to renew it. The thing is that only my first name and surname are on my expired passport but my first name, middle name and surname are on my Nin, will this affect nin verification when applying for a renewal?
ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by Bossman(m): 3:07am On Apr 02, 2023
Starting with Python is good as well. My kids’ universities both use python to teach programming.

EducatedMind369:
What's your opinion on a person, learning how to code starting with Python?
ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by Bossman(m): 3:57pm On Apr 01, 2023
You can learn all 4 if you want. But it will take some time to be very proficient in all 4. Of the languages I mentioned, I will suggest Java. It is more in demand at the moment.

4Humanity4All:
Why do you think I shouldn't learn all four? I thought they were all connected in a career path.
Secondly, of the three in bracket, which do you advise that I learn?
ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by Bossman(m): 5:37pm On Mar 31, 2023
I would not advice you to learn all 4. I would suggest you learn one of the Object Oriented Programming ones (Java, C++, C#) and master it very well.
4Humanity4All:
I want to know. If I learn C, C++, JAVA and C# in that order, what does that make me in tech? I mean what will I call myself?

It has to be narrowed down to the city. Just too broad at the state level. Every state has some boring places. You can also google specifically for what kinds of jobs you guys are seeking and see what cities have the most.

Chai!
Thank you
Can you mention states with high job prospects please
ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by Bossman(m): 8:08pm On Mar 30, 2023
I concur. There is no reason to pay anyone to learn programming. Everything you need, tutorials, tools, etc. are all free online. You just have to have the passion and be dedicated. There is no free lunch anywhere. It will take a lot of time and effort to become good at it. Programming is in demand and pays well for a reason.

Any body can become a programmer, software engineer or a software developer or an artificial intelligent Engineer. All you need to start is just a laptop and passion to learn. Most of the introductory courses are free at techdoor computer science solution.

Mentioning the exact city will be helpful a bit. Depending on the field, job opportunities my be limited Iowa, S. D., and Kentucky. Also, some of these places may not really have much by way of activities for a young couple.

Which of these places will you advise a young couple to settle down?

Well said! Nigerians are used to mediocrity. Just SMH...

babzo:
Nigerians are very easy to amuse and please and the politicians know exactly what button to press.
People have gotten so used to the countries problems, they now accept them as normal.
Not one of the Governorship candidates in any State including Lagos, made any effort to say how they will make pipe borne water for all homes a reality. Imagine in the year 2023, people still digging borehole and buy water from Mallams. Let's not even discuss those in the rural areas going to fetch water at the river. Over 2000 years after a city like Rome had pipe borne water to its homes.
Not one of the Presidential candidates explained how they will eradicate bandits and kidnappers and defeat Boko Haram.

Now see a Governor and Minister ( different parties) dancing when it's not Friday or a party at an event where millions have been wasted just to rent the tent, print pamphlet, and buy snacks for the guests; and the citizens are shining their 32 saying " that's my Governor, I love my Governor, he always makes me happy" Is he a jester? Is that what he was elected and is being paid billions to do?

Today, the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the train in Abuja, with no one arrested or charged despite the many killed. Same Minister under whose watch, prison after prison was broken into across the country, and prisoners escaped.

Weeks after the election, the Elect is already resting abroad. Not one summit or strategic meeting on solving the glaring problems. Even the simple one of people paying N500 to send N5000.

Even the Opposition is confused. N25 Million to get ordinary nomination form for Governor , not campaign funds o; and you think the next
Governor wont steal? Or maybe they are not confused; its normal normal.
PhonesRe: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 4:50pm On Mar 26, 2023
Another video showing the setup with starlink. You will need to factor in the cost of all equipment to see if it's worth it. You will need 2 of the devices beam one to the next, plus a router at the 2nd location as well. Other things to consider are the electricity issues, reduction in speed, etc.

ProgrammingRe: With Chatgpt And All The Layoffs, Is There Still Hope For Beginners Like Me? by Bossman(m): 5:40pm On Mar 23, 2023
Just continue with what you are doing. It will pay off on the long run. There are plenty of jobs to be had, at least here in the US. Don't worry about chatGPT. Good software developers will always be in demand.

Devdevdev:
I am throwing an honest question to fellow programmers:

Is all my hardwork and sacrifice in vain?

Is my focus on the javascript ecosystem; both front and back end a wise decision, given the current market?

I am not just learning to be an average programmer, I want to be one of the best.

Will Chatgpt and the recent layoffs affect my aspiration to get a good job once I am done learning?
ProgrammingRe: Advice On The Best Path by Bossman(m): 5:35pm On Mar 23, 2023
Learn the fundamentals of Software Dev/Programming very well using any Language you want. be it Java, Python, etc. Once you master it very well, then you can start to learn about available frameworks available with that language. Then you can write small applications that solve a problem utilizing those skills. Software developers are still in demand here in US.
PhonesRe: How Do I Solve This Network Problem? by Bossman(m): 9:22pm On Mar 14, 2023
The issue will likely be the same if you are using the same network sim in the router. My suggestion is to switch to a network provider that has good signal at your location.

God is not coming from anywhere to safe anybody. He has done his part by blessing the country with resources and created us to take charge. Only Nigerians can save themselves! We've been waiting on god since Thy kingdom come and things are the same. That should be an indication that Nigerians have to take charge!
