Folks, can anyone please help me understand and give advice how to resolve this issue? A man from Lagos (name withheld for now) managed to buy #2000 worth of MTN 'on demand top up' from my Union Bank account. This fraud was carried out on the 12th and 13th of May - he bought two #1000 top ups for his mobile number 0803 561114; within 24 hours. I had only just set up an online account 3 days previously. How easy is the MTN top up and how can it be done without some sort of password and/or token? I have reported to Union Bank and stopped the online facilty but they have not done anything else; no refund, no feedback, no explanation of how it happened. They just said they were investigating... This is maddening as I cannot use my online account and this person is still out there using his mobile and possibly can defraud me again. Please help - what else can I do? |
holuphisayor:My local bank knows about it and the Customer service of the bank also know but they say they are investigating. Investigating what? The person's phone number came up on my alert and I do not use MTN. I do not have a bank card and I have only had the online account for a few days before the person used my account to buy top up - I was actually in flight when the first fraud occured... I think the MTN top up system might be too lax or the interchange between the banks and mobile networks for remote top up might be too easy to encourage fraud. I might post the person's number if I do not get a response in due course. I wanted MTN to investigate and cancel his SIM number as they should know the registered owner of mobile number and they can see his top up history - I sent them one of the alerts. |
smartn09:I am sure that the police will want something from him... If the phone is very expensive then it might be worth all the hassle, otherwise, shame the fellow and not pay him. I have ongoing issue myself; someone used my online bank facility to buy 'MTN on demand top up'. I got one alert and was thinking, what is going on here; less than 12 hrs later, the person transacted another top up. Bank says they will investigate and MTN says it has nothing to do with them, that I shd deal with the bank. But all SIMs are registered and this person can easily be found or made to face some justice. But this is Nja - I have no trust in our systems. |
What can I say? The Aso-ebi, the parties, Owambes, loudness and sharpness, extended family and even the stringiness - I do agree. But how for do if you are an Ijebu man? The Aso-ebi thing weak me so so much. And the expenses on extended family and in-laws too. What if your mum and dad comes from the same small Ijebu town? Bad luck for Moi? The female poster wanting an Ijebu man - why? And do fancy being a baby mama? |
This is the family section: just read about all those that have unhappy marriages then you can see why some people will choose to do things differently. Is being in a polygamous marriage better than being a baby mama? |
fuckerstard:You are 'dead' right! The magazine is still in the gun and still remains in the gun when they left it on the dead robber |
It is not a case of loving it but I live abroad and I am very liberal and do not really care much about tradition, religion or conventional ways of doing things. As long as it works and people are happy, I have no problems... It will work for someone like me - too many cases of abroad guys taking spouses abroad and then being used and finding themselves back to square. Moreover, it is better than being successful and childless. How much will the OP consider is a good salary/allowance? How much will you want personally? |
Sadly it still works! But you missed out the part where some of us men are also comfortable with Baby Mamas; it is better than being single or being married to a liability and then cheating... How much salary for a baby mama? We are not talking celebrity status but guy who is reasonably comfortable and girl who is not one of those UniLag types - lol |
It all depends on the situation of the man and woman. A young man marrying a single mother should think long and hard; and get the lady pregnant as quickly as possible. |
I still do not understand how he could not explain his way out of the situation or even threaten the first responders with the possible consequences of messing with a soldier. Did he have a phone to call for back up? And why he was not carrying an ID yet had a gun on him. No excuse for lynching someone and certainly not beating up someone that is not caught in the act. Tragic! |
How quickly can a registry wedding be done? Does one need to apply first and then get a date booked and how quickly? I am thinking of Shagamu or Abeokuta or even Ikenne... Can it be done in 3 weeks; thinking of going to Nja and doing one and getting out. Good intentions, mind! |
I would have said nothing good... He thinks the people are great! How many of them did he meet and did he go around protected and/or with people that think the sun shines out of the backside of oyinbos. The country is now very unstable, unsafe, divided, poverty striven in parts and frankly failing its citizens. The country can be great but in general the people are not. |
You should have given your wife the evil eye and then calmly shook his hand and try not to make conversation, at least be aloof. The wife should have prepared you or least discuss things with you. Her rule of not allowing the dad in the house is not right; if it is a rule, not an understanding. Taking coffee to the ex outside and him coming every week shows they are civil and not enemies. You have upset your wife by being impolite and unnecessarily difficult. Just go and meet the guy yourself next time he comes to pick up the kids. Or you can all go out as one family to his car and you say hello and leave them to it. |

xtivin:He does not want to be a Worker! He is just part of the congregation and did Jesus reject anyone that comes to him? |
stanley99a:Pastor should have been more respectful and humble himself. The man went to another church - he does not need to go to that particular church; he is newish anyway. Pastor are not above anyone - they are servants of God; and should not be put on pedestals. Good move! Dress as you like - you are not there to please the Pastor but God. |
verygudbadguy:Whatever you make on this side must be declared otherwise you taking a free ride and does the tax office know. Salary is not enough is not a good excuse for bribery and corruption or such like. Give us examples of jobs where you are openly and legally allowed to make bits on the side? Is is ok for Immigration, Police, Lecturers, Court officials and so on to use their positions to make money on the side? |
What business? Do you not need start-up capital and good cash flow and steady income from the business in order to pay yourself a wage? There are too many people trying to do the same business and original ideas and businesses are always a risk especially at this very hard times. Too many hustlers in nja... Work for a while, build some cash reserves and network before ploughing all your efforts into some silly business that will not even give you #50000 per month. * The only reservation I have about doing interim jobs is not to take jobs that will not allow you to do something else. Imagine doing a 6-day job from 9-6pm for #20,000 (not graduate but if one does not have backers, those petrol station jobs can be a start) Too much credence given to going to university and getting degrees or qualifications... Parents sending kids to private schools at age of 2 when they cannot even afford to feed themselves. Unless one is a genius or can easily sell one's self, degree without connections could be a waste; in Nja. |
It is the asking for money direct within a short time of meeting that is a 'put off'. I met a hardworking and struggling single-minded recently. I was just fascinated about her pleasantness, dignity and motherhood. I wanted to buy her a recharge card as some Nja folks do use text and just start calling for minor things... We could not buy one cos of rain and I gave her the #500 (my first time of meeting her alone). She refused! I bought the card on the way home and texted her. I had about 1.5 months relationship with her and ended up spending lots without her asking me directly for anything. I even gave her the equivalent in pounds of her months salary on my last day. Girls should try to be dignified and humble! * The relationship is now a long distance one - I hate that and I tried to discourage her but we shall see... |
alexialin:There is a big difference between being labelled a 'giver' and then fleeced than simply giving to people that are deserving and that is within limits. God is blessing you regardless and not on a quid quo pro on whether you give or not. I am positive but seriously very negative about people that set themselves up as takers and do not do the blessing thing or give credence to religion or tradition. Tight fisted - well, I work hard and have to think about my bottom line, pension and inheritance for my children... |
alexialin:OMG! First negative alert is 'givers never lack'... How exactly is that true? It is easy to simply take, it is the giver that has all the problems: refuse, give, explain, guilt, stress, expectations, ridicule, abuse and so on... Including the very ridiculous and callous last statement of 'doubling their hustle'. So they double hustle including stealing and corruption to just continue to give the sort of gives that do not care where the money is coming from and/or what happens to giver after he is run dry. I know generous people that give a lot to family, friends and mostly to the church but they die without leaving much or leaving debt to their spouse and children. Giver - please treble your hustle too. Thx |
Lexusgs430:Why are you making things more complicated? Sorting yourselves out as a married couple in your present country of residence seems like a good first bet. Then worry about the UK afterwards. Although, I can understand why Africans esp Nigerians might want to get to the UK as soon as possible - Brexit and all that. I have a family who is an EU citizen with a prominent Nja that suddenly relocated his wife and children to the UK. No explanation yet and no one really knows what is wife is doing in the UK and why he is now being looked after by his sister and co. Brexit? |
We need whistle blowers in the NIS system. One is urgently needed at the Abeokuta office - some of the operatives are wicked. They take bribe money and do nothing in the hope that applicants are not successful or applicants give up. I think we need to start naming and shaming like a poster did for Mrs Nwachukwu... This country! |
taiwoaadl:No problems! Thanks |
taiwoaadl:Do you still have the phone for sale. I am really interested and based in Iperu-Remo. Please get in touch as soon before we buy it from Jumia; we need it soon as a gift. * PS, it has to be in an unopened box. C |
This is interesting! Spurs says they can win all matches remaining and judging by form, it is quite possible. Secondly. United are threatening the top 4. Arsenal might miss out this time... Will it be curtains for Wenger? United should have at least 6 - 8 more points - losing leads to smaller teams and losing to the likes of Norwich |
Mamagold123456:Something fishy going on? |
This thread is now all over the place. The questions from the OP are kind of derivative; although the information from the questions should be useful. The biggest question the ladies should ask themselves is why do i want to get involved in what might end up being very complicated when there are guys in this country. With Trump and Brexit and anti-immigrants sentiments all over, he chances of moving abroad even as a spouse is so hard - was not easy before. So why marry a guy you will not see for long periods of time. And as for marrying a guy that is not even in Nigeria; that will be so strange if they have not met before or she is not already in the family way. Do you live alone? Not relevant unless it is a case of do you live with another woman for pali sake or otherwise. The expensive car part - why does he have to have an expensive car and why is he showing off? I will rather show off my house. My 1.2 litres is good enough - fuel efficient, economical in all the taxes, and a good nipper and good for parking. Moreover, I live alone, so why drive a BMW or Benz or people carrier. Lastly, those saying that guys should be able to find spouse easily where they are - I tell you it is not that easy. The Nja girls here can be very difficult and demanding. One girl in her 40s with no kids yet, still studying but her expectations and expenditures is way off the scale. She just kept on chewing my ears off with what she wants and what she was going to get. An unmarried woman wanting to get a 4×4 and saying she wanted a girl and so on and so on... |
The one question the girl, I am sort of interesed in, asked was when am I coming back to Nigeria. The other questions from the OP was not entirely relevant as she saw my Facebook photo albums over many yeras, including so e scanned photos. I will not tell anyone about my savings, the credit rating is not something most Nja girls will know about but having your own house with a mortgage answers that question. Any girl intending to get involved with a guy abroad must face the fact that she is in a distant relationship and nowadays, she might not even get to move abroad with the guy. Unless, she is loaded herself and can sponsor studying. Or the man is so rich as to do all the running. It is not ideal. And it is very expensive for the man. So when are my coming back to Nja for good? After 2.5 months, I think it might be another 5 years at least. The country is pants and why come here to suffer - even if one is a cleaner, taxi driver, hotel worker, hospitality staff, parking attendant, bus driver, tube worker, kitchen porter (that is rank), data entry staff or even a teacher and so on... |
AfricanApple:This makes sense. However, money ritual itself is not real. Money is not from the ritual unless they are selling human parts or involved in criminal activities. The myth can be easily busted in this day of mobile phone cameras. In the same way, magicians can make money appear for themselves... |
apcisevil:I do not appreciate the way you have put your points across but even as a Yoruba person, it is hard not to concur with the overall sentiment. We Yorubas will only command respect if we have the guts to declare that we want to go our own way. Even if it does not succeed, we have always come across as the green snake in the grass - the so-called clever and diplomatic ones. But in true fact, we are just scared and good ass lickers. We are like the Brits! |
