Education › Re: Unilag Students Share The Present State Of Their #350k Hostel(pics, vid) by delpee(f): 8:29pm On Nov 09, 2023 |
nairalanda1: You want better university hostels, pay higher fees, probably as high as 2-3 million naira a year, then we can talk.
No, I am not abusing the poor. This is what happens when education is heavily subsidised. Bad quality results. We cry that sane countries have hostels that look like hotels, when in real life, those students in sane countries pay high fees, or their parent is giving the government at all levels there nearly 50 % of their incomes
Go to most developing countries where education is heavily subsidised, and you end up with the above.
Our budget for education is 2 billion dollars.Half of that is how much one hospital in the US spent on expanding its facilites one year. Yet that 2 billion is supposed to make all our primary schools, secondary schools and all the tertiary institutions look like modern schools. I dey laugh like hyena.
When I say that FEES NEED TO BE RAISED...people come and abuse me, shout at me , etc. Yet, see years of paying 'people's fees' and what do we have? Shitty hostels. Hostels that are not fit for human living. Yet the poor have to breathe....breathe...in places that are damaging to the psyche
We keep lying to ourselves that education is cheap. It is a lie we tell ourselves every year, for decades, under every admin. Educations is not cheap, it is effing expensive. It costs money...and it costs even more money.
And yes, students are selling their spaces for 350k. Because we don't have the money to expand facilites. Universites do not have the cash to build new hostels. All new hostels are being built by private individuals, who won't maintain them, so at the end, they all get messed up, because accomondation fees cannot pay for proper maintenance.
And now 40% of university revenue has to go to the government
Abuse me, curse me, etc....but university is effing expensive. And God knows I effing hate the fact. I effing wish I could send every Nigerian to school for free. Like in Demnark. But them Danes in return for free education spend half their salaries on taxes to government
Denmark by the way has less than 30 m people, and spends 30 billion on education, as well as 8 times our GDP per student...on funding. And like I said, everyone pays tax
But in Nigeria, we have to let the poor breathe.
Abuse away. Reality is lacking on this site. You're right. Reality is far from the minds of our people. How can we expect well maintained hostels with 40k being paid to the universities? Plus the fact that there's overpopulation which puts heavy pressure on the facilities designed for specific number of people. |

Fake news!
They should show us the yacht since they said it's been delivered since June and was meant to be used by the former President in May.
NASS claimed to be unaware of an approval for the purchase. Nobody seems to know how we got a yacht. They need to get to the root of this to prevent a reoccurrence. |

Absolute nonsense. No one can force them to use an official vehicle. Besides, they can have a minority view to request for made in Nigeria SUVs. We would have hailed them as patriotic citizens. OmugwoAunty: She did not attend wedding. She was not given enough ‘time’ to prepare. Like I said, she’s not dependable or present (for myself and siblings). All of us still manage to keep our relationship. I'm not judging your mum because I don't know her story. However, I believe she could have done better. Not attending your wedding, not seeing her grandchild since birth and now trying to block a willing family member isn't fair. For your peace of mind, consider the fact that she knows her sister better than you even if there's some envy involved. I think it's better to avoid both of them for now. Live your life. Don't bring problems into your home. God has helped you weather the storms of early motherhood. He'll not depart from you. BTW, you shouldn't have sent the screenshot to Aunty. Never get involved in sibling rivalry/disagreements on that level. Yours is to sue for peace and stay clear. They'll resolve their issues in due season. Stay blessed. |

The most important thing right now to boost agriculture is the tackling of insecurity. Anything put in place without resolving that is a waste. Many big farmers are unwilling to return to their farms. Even small placeholder farmers near urban areas are not safe. Paying taxes to terrorists and having crops eaten up by cattle is not encouraging at all. |

proeast: Lol, his ignorance is undiluted. It's extremely difficult to see any Igbo woman that will want to marry a Yoruba man. Except such Yoruba man is a celebrity like Davido or wealthy. Igbo women consider Yoruba men only when their chances of getting Igbo men are very low. Especially, when it is due to certain traditional reasons which I won't mention here.
However, on the contrary, Yoruba men who succeed in marrying Igbo women see it as a great achievement.
These are facts no one would argue except ignorant ones. It depends on the level of exposure. I have some Igbo inlaws and they're not "outcasts" as suggested in your post. We made enquiries and visited their villages. They married for love. Our men don't see it as any form of achievement. They marry whomsoever they love. Same way many enlightened Igbos are married to Yoruba women by choice. Chief Emeka Anyaoku for instance. The elites have no time for primordial sentiments. |

Went to UNILAG but it's only for their students and staff. Then, went to nearby Cafe one at e-center but they're charging N2,500 a day or N250,000 for six months, which is really what I want. But then, they were playing music there!! Have you tried the library at St Agnes area on Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba? It's between Sabo and Unilag junction and beside the Catholic girl's school. I think it's a Lagos/GTB sponsored Library. Modified... it should be Herbert Macaulay way not M/M way. |

People don't understand that it's the Palestinians who have been rejecting the 2 state solution all these years. I remember the one involving Bill Clinton in particular because I followed the story. I was so disappointed when the PLO backpedalled at the last minute.
The point is HAMAS and their supporters only wish is for Israel to disappear. Since that's unlikely to happen, they have to go back to what they've been rejecting. Israel didn't object. |
A better Nigeria all around is all we want at MANNA, Not all these political shenanigans.
Let us all join hands to move Nigeria forward. We have no country to call our own.
Nigerians : The Major problem is not "the presidents" but the governors that collect allocation and do absolutely nothing........
On a state-by-state basis, in the second quarter of 2023, Delta state received the largest allocation, totalling N102. 79 billion, followed by Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, which received N70. 01 billion and N69. 73 billion, respectively.
Below is the monthly allocation given to every states in Nigeria by the FG (IN BILLIONS!!!)
It's surprising that Bayelsa is not so developed considering the amount received over the years. Delta too should do better.
We need to hold our Governors and LG Chairpersons accountable if we must make progress. |

crossfm: Hehehe. Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy.
If it's US or UK now you will see them protesting on the streets and telling us how they are treating moslems bad,but they won't say anything now.
Just look at how they are protesting about Israel, but no Islamic nation want to take Palestine's in as refugee, even the ones that have border with them. They claim love from far .
They know these guys are trouble. The last time Jordan took them in,they almost dethroned the king of Jordan. He regretted taking them in, infact they turned that country into something else.
You can also ask Lebanon how far today. A country that was peaceful and progressive was reduced to nothing, because of the people they took in.
The last time Egypt opened their border, they joined the Moslem brotherhood and unlished terror on Egyptian government.
The world know these guys are trouble makers but they just want to be political correct. True. Beirut, Lebanon was like Dubai of today. People traveled there to buy gold and for holidays until the terrorists took control. It was a well balanced country for Muslims and Christians. Now, it's more of a base for Hezbollah. |

I opened a boutique business for her last year, now she said she wants to sell baby things, and I have done it half way,I had to just prank her that the other money I was expecting hasn't come, immediately she began the insult again to my face,as it is the prank is getting real because I will not give her the money anymore Have you tried reporting her to the Gender Based Violence office? It's not for women alone. They're quite helpful. They may be able to counsel her and guide you both towards restoring peace in your home. |
