dinachi:The government. Sometimes the victims (including women) plead for a withdrawal of the cases. Usually, where children are affected, the State goes ahead with the trial irrespective of the consent of the parents. |
TrustNone:Yes |
U09ce:I agree. That's possible. However, I read somewhere that they were notified earlier but went ahead to build. I've seen places in the past where recalcitrant landlords simply paint over the red markings of the authorities and continue building. Problem is that when the house is completed and occupied, another agency of government collects levies and taxes thereby seemingly validating occupancy. Bottom line is that one shouldn't build without proper documentation at the lands registry and a genuine building approval. |
These demolitions in Festac are being carried out by FHA not Lagos State. Those who have relevant documents and approved plans can seek redress. Sad and avoidable loss no doubt. |
I'm wondering how the Pastor will be able to preach forgiveness which is a fundamental principle of Christianity. I don't know her offence but there should be a better way of resolving their issues. |
NAC1666:That's FHA land. If they have the relevant documents and approvals, they can sue for damages and compensation. Painful loss truly but most people build without proper documentation whilst hoping to regularise in due course. Some people got away with that in Ajao Estate near the airport but places prone to flooding or those obstructing the right of way are rarely pardoned. |
pharmagba:There are rangers too. I've forgotten the name of their organisation but they're in charge of our forests. |
What should we say about Yorubas and other tribes whose houses were demolished? The point is that those who have valid documents and permits can sue for damages and compensation. |
They have staff in the moribund refineries earning salaries and incurring operational expenses without producing anything all these years. That is a scam that needs to be investigated. |
That's ridiculous if it applies across board. Hope it doesn't affect land owners in the area councils. |
Wow! Time flies. A legend indeed. The evil ones were always on edge but we learnt a lot about their ways. Probably Soka wouldn't have happened if the security forces paid enough attention. Another person making waves now is Oriyomi Hamzat, the one who is following up on the Ramon Adedoyin murder case. |
ShugaSneh:You're so rude! A lot of crayfish in Lagos markets are prepared in some Lekki villages. Neatly done and quite fresh. |
At least they responded and they're keeping the website open for us to see and and criticise. I read through their responses to the comments line by line. I don't quite agree with some but some explanations are fairly reasonable. Now they'll be more meticulous and careful about what they spend on. Many other states are opaque so I appreciate their transparency. The Procurement agency should be more prudent and diligent going forward. It's a step towards achieving good governance. |
Sadly, most commenters seem to have comprehension issues. A city is different from a State. Polytechnic is not the same as university. That's how people fail exams and blame village people or the examiners without scrutinising themselves. |
Hopefully, the government revisits this before the next election. |
The Governor has denied this. In any case, an instruction is not the same as an evidence of payment. GRV should provide that so lawyers can take BOS up if true. Otherwise, he'll be giving idle lawyers ideas on how to cash out by suing him for damages. |
We've seen Deputy Governors response denying receipt of the huge sum. Waiting for the Governor's office and updates from the Procurement agency. The transparency is appreciated but prudence and accountability are very important. |
Otti o, Sanwoolu o, all na de same. Anybody who is yet to understand that all our politicians are the same is on a long thing. The only difference is the party name. What we need to fight for is accountability and transparency in all sectors of governance in our nation. This is a good starting point. We're now aware that we can track expenses and make our voices heard on our opinions. Even if we have our say and they have their way this time, it puts them on notice that people are now awake to their responsibility of monitoring the use of our commonwealth. |
PHAYOL81:True. There are others including Funmilayo Ransome Kuti and Adunni Oluwole. |
FrontDev39:Those who truly have government approved plans can sue for damages and compensation. The problem is they don't have. |
U09ce:The detailed story shows that they were warned not to build on pipeline areas, drainage channels and road setbacks. They were hoping that FHA will regularise their misdemeanor. Same as it happened in Ajao Estate and Lekki. People need to learn to abide with the laws and regulations of the society in which they live. |
This doesn't look like Ebute Metta. There are indeed old and distressed buildings in EB but mostly owned by Yoruba families. |
I love her spirit. True Naija wife. ![]() |
Femijohn198:Justice is based on provable evidence not sentiments. This is not about bribes. Once a step is missed in the electoral process, it renders the subsequent events a nullity. Zamfara case comes to mind. Henceforth, the parties should abide by the processes required under the law and their party rules, during the nomination of their candidates. |
Sweet potatoes, gari and maybe beans depending on the current price. |
Heartbreaking! |
The governor messed up big time when he chose to take his personal grudge against Ganduje to ridiculous levels, thereby adversely affecting the people, who bore the brunt of his excesses. Unfortunately, he may not be missed. Life goes on. My comment has nothing to do with the court judgement which is based on evidence. |
dinachi:The LASG domestic violence laws are non-discriminatory. If the men agree, the women will be tried and punished accordingly. |
This isn't funny at all. It means the nation is breeding more thugs and social misfits. A woman like this can't train her children well. Kids of today learn more from what you do than what you say. There are always better ways of handling discontent. |
aswani:The Adelekes have always been true sons of the soil irrespective of their mum/grandmother and some inlaws being Igbos. Their late dad was a grassroots politician. They've done so much to uplift their town and the people so they're loved. |
