Commentor:Not their fault also. The person who wrote that headline needs to be shot. Different headline , different content. He never even said Homosexuality is the cause of insecurity, he clearly said lack of discipline and want of wealth without commiserable efforts is what is causing insecurities but as usual our blogs need to make money. |
Look for Jabra. Best battery. |
When there is no consequences for wrong doing. This is what you get. Law enforcement officers are laws onto themselves and do as they deem fit. The ones at the top are also culpable in the actions so it is natural for their subordinates to behave like cows. |
unscripted:Honestly, i don't know who posted this to the front page. Yeah it's hardwork for an 8 year old girl given the risks and not to take anything away from her struggles but just using Google map to calculate the distance i walked daily during my schooling time was 8km to and fro . And after getting back home from school at 3pm one still had to trek another 4km to and fro for evening Islamic classes that starts by 4:30pm. So people should stop making this seem like it's a feat or extraordinary. She needs all the help she can get but don't sensationalize things. Thousands of Nigerian kids do these daily. |
datasthmagirl:Lol me anticapitalist? Innovation thrives when there are humans who can actually use these products. You seem to think like a country can exist in a silo. You speak with too much emotions. And you talk about failures and peers doing better? Lol you forget Siemens, Nokia, Spotify, trivago, Skype, ASOS are actually European coys? So what failures are you actually talking about? Yeah the US has more tech companies and that's because of the differences in risk aversion and the BS open market the US peddles to EU countries. It takes a knee jerk reaction to push them into action. It doesn't take lots to create a search Engine or Social media app for the EU alone. Yeah it takes time but if there was to be a need. Then it would thrive. China has shown that. Businesses don't run with emotions. These tech firms would not pull out of France. They would rather negotiate. You don't need to travel far to see how most tech firms are lobbying to get a slice of the Chinese Markets even with state sponsored competitors and the Chinese governments shutting them out. The taxes been levied on them is a small price to them. They would adjust. Small businesses and enterprises in France currently pay 20% in taxes and there are still millions of them. They are still innovating and making profits. The tech companies should pay their fair share. If the USA puts any tariffs up against an EU country, in this case France, the entire EU responds in kind to maintain the integrity of the single market. That's the point of the EU. |
Sterope:Lol that's why cultish followership of Public figures or leaders should be highly frowned at. Not everything Trump says is right but their bias that he is their Messiah seems to make them intelligence even in lopsided arguments. Not suprised though. The guy already said he would win even if he carries a gun and shoots someone on the streets. That's to show you he has dumb followers. |
Sterope:Lol.. it's a long day jare.. Would indulge their thoughts for today. ![]() |
datasthmagirl:Lol...your type are the ones that stick their head in a heap of sand and pretend everything is Uhuru. You seem to think Cooporations are moral entities that would do their fair share, sorry to announce they only do when there are regulatory checks in place to force them to do so. These companies for years now have been using the fact that their businesses have limited physical presence to milk the systems dry. Political motivations you say? I hope you are one of those 1% who currently hold much of the world's wealth else that statement seems a lot pathetic to hear from someone outside that bracket. Go read the Oxfam reports on tax havens and see how billions are been subverted yearly thus undercutting governments performances in most countries on delivering quality of life to their citizens. Ireland alone makes $90 billion from taxing tech companies like Apple who have their EU headquarters there but 95% of those revenues by such comes from outside of Ireland and is mostly other EU countries. Just to simplify it for you Google is busying harvesting people's data to sell services. At the end of the fiscal year Google Nigeria would be declaring 50,000 naira profit while the revenue from Nigeria is like 50 billion naira. Ask Google Nigeria and they would claim the 50billion revenues was used to pay the image rights to the parent company for using their names and services in Nigeria. In their books and in the eyes of the current tax laws that would be seen as buying of mechandise for the business and such can't be taxed they may even get tax reliefs for such if their consultants are extremely good. That is an unsustainable situation. Most countries are waking up to such now and it won't take time before others level up. I am not a fan of any country. I am a follower of commonsense. Would support Trump if the taxes are sensible and not just a retaliatory one. |
datasthmagirl:Read the quote below. It is not only US businesses and they arw not taxing their global revenues. Just French Revenues. "Le Maire said the tax would target some 30 companies, mostly American but also Chinese, German, Spanish and British, as well as one French firm France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire defended a 3% tax on the French revenues of tech giants." https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/11/us-to-probe-proposed-french-tech-tax.html In principle, taxing profits is the only fair approach, but dishonest transfer pricing and creative accounting has made a mockery of this so if the French government feels it should tax their revenues then that's lovely. Apple has been operating for years outside of the US but go check their books in most countries they mostly declare zero profits. Are governments going to be taxing zero profits? |
AgreatMan:And you call this retort what? With or without tax would people take car rides or not? Uber is not bringing any so called FDIs into the Nigerian economy. They are only exploiting new business niches that have been unexplored. Is it Uber buying cars for Nigerians? Like wtf did you just even spew? How much has Uber invested in driver trainings, safety culture or even fu..cking CSR? People like you don't think of the wider consequences of things. You don't see the bigger picture and that's why we are still were we are. Only looking at benefits at a micro level. Oh your car dealer sold 13 Toyotas. Wow...and those Toyotas were Nigerian made or isn't this capital flight we talked about? When other countries are investing in cleaner fuels and reducing use of singular modes of transport this one here is celebrating populating our roads with junks burning bad fuel and polluting everywhere as a form of achievement. No wonder we have the kind of leaders we have. I am sure Jonathan would be out there celebrating bringing Facebook to Nigeria Oh since Dangote employs thousands of people, we should kukuma tell him not to pay taxes anymore. When the small business man in Alaba has to pay tv tax, street urchins tax, LG tax, detuct VAT and even pay state and Federal taxes. How lovely is your stupid ideas? Let me break it down for you. Local businesses like Taxis have to pay extra to have an hackney permit or commercial license to ride. Most ubers have just private driving licenses which to the society is a loss as these cars exert more pressure on public infrastructure and that's why commerical cars are required to pay more to be able to service these things. Also i am talking about Uber as a company and not their "partners" aka drivers. If Uber is taking over the jobs of local taxis and are exerting pressure on our roads aren't they expected to pay their fare share i.e tax for business continuity purposes? Also compare Lagos traffic from 5-6 years ago and now . Based on just basic assumptions there is like a ratio of 6:4 of ubers to other private cars on most Lagos roads. There are much more cars on the road than is needed because thousands of drivers are on the road scouring for rides. This is causing untold hardships on the general populace due to loss of man hours in needless traffics and the bigger one wear and tear of roads which costs billions of Naira to fix. The more the cars we have on the roads burning fuel the more subsidies the country has to pay on petrol. You guys are just dumb honestly. All these are what intelligent people figure out and look at cutting out. Yeah there are thousands Uber is providing a daily livelihood to but at what cost to the general public, infrastructure and sanity? You don't even want me to dive into the slavery that Uber is. That's another topic for another day. You live in a 3rd world country and humans are being exploited is what you would call gainfully employed. Please next time when you want to quote me, have your points clearly researched. Thank you. Ps ..i am at a mech workshop and i have lots of time to burn today ![]() |
Lol America first? oh ok then. France first, Germany first. If everyone wants their own Nationalistic views most Global trade would collapse . Also calling the President of a Country foolish because he is trying to protect his country makes Trump a kid that's only good at throwing tantrums. The dolts on Nairaland are so freaking stupid it makes one cringe. Facebook, Google twitter, IG all have huge presence in the countries of the world and they make huge profits from local businesses and populations but because they are online they don't pay taxes to Local countries and retain almost all profits back to their home country. Is this right? Nope . What Macron did was just to tax these companies based on estimated profits they make from his country. That's not a bad idea. Same way Uber is carting away 25% of all revenues made in Nigeria without paying taxes except for income tax of some fringe employees they have in the country. There's a spiral of effects this can cause and the most affected are you dumb poverty stricken people on here shouting Trump my G. A market seller in Asaba uses Facebook to chat her friends and views ads placed by Mr Emeka in Owerri and the money ends up in a bank account in the US. Isn't the government that provided security and other basic amenities to the extent that the market seller was comfortable enough to use the so called services entitled to a certain percentage of those profits since they were a direct enabler of such transactions? That's just a low level explanation. Anyways, poverty is truly cyclical and it is enabled by wanton illiteracy as displayed on this thread. |
elldeb101:Sometimes it is better to slow down and read. So because the card readers had to authenticate user details. It couldn't have been done locally i.e store user details on the machine? And if your transmission of data to a server was also correct , isn't it stupid and illogical to have to authenticate a single user detail via a network that spans thousands of km? I agine a card reader relaying information from Ibadan to a Server in Abuja. Imagine the latency and time lag. Also such cannot be on a public ip so it has to be router using private networks. Just imagine the loops it has to go through just to fetch data. And what would have happened in places where there were no networks or the traffic to the server couldn't cope with volume of requests? How was the authentication carried out then? If your statements were also correct, why then were the card readers unique and not interchangeable? Doesn't that tell you that the user details were already programmed to each card reader machine and was to be only used at a polling unit it wqs designated for. You don't need to be vastly experienced in IT to make basic logical reasoning. You lots just close the other half of your brains and reason along with half truths and inconsistencies. |
Nemesis909:You have to imagine the number of daft people we have in this country. Shows you alot dont even know the voting process. How would you count the number of votes for a specific candidate using a card reader when the votes were thumbprinted on a sheet of paper and the card readers were just used as a means of accreditation and not vote counting? To continously regurgitate this simply shows the level of blind stupidity pervading the country. |
alphaNomega:Daft. Nigeria is the only country where commonsense seems to be missing from most of their citizens. Only in the country you would see people drive down to a joint to drink and next hopping into their cars to drive home. You aren't only endagering your life but you are endagering the whole community you would drive through and |
Theyoungmatron:I swear. |
Sterope:Not in all situations you go confrontational. We all agree she can't tell him no sex, but there are other ways around it. Doesn't have to be only when the mum is around. The only thing wrong here is the manner of approach from the wife. Even if the mother in law scolded her which I doubt she did there are better ways of presenting such. You don't go to your spouse and say my mum scolded me for having sex. Like seriously? For me , I think the wife is not saying the truth. She is just self conscious and trying to use the mother to save face. Sometimes it takes time to adjust to the fact that you are having sex especially for people who grew up in homes that the parents were "strict", never showed affection to each other in front of their kids. It carries a long lasting effect and this is one of the result. |
We have too many stupid people in this country. Who in hell is he to tell people what to trend with or not? When Harvey Weistein stories came out, lots of people in the US and all over the World came out to decry the attitude and that led to the "me too" movement. Does that mean there weren't rape cases happening to lesser known figures in the country before those came out? Every rape case needs to be treated on a case by case basis. It also takes a landmark case to bring to light issues people have had or topics we always shy away from. Maybe due to the popularity of her case, something drastic would be done or new laws would be drafted to help the general society. More reason why more people need to start talking about it. If indeed he cares about other lesser known cases of rape, he wouldn't come out to say the trash he just spewed out. For you to have social change, whatever you want to push forward must be at the consicousness of the society. It must be something lots of people are discussing. We have a culture were people are told to keep shut and enjoy the pains and someone took courage not withstanding her position to come out and all you dumb people do is villiify her for speaking her own truth when we know how prevalent rape cases are in the society? Rape is not something you want to sound political correct on please. |
delugajackson:Swim? Swim the Lagoon? Even Phelps would not survive it. You are in the middle of nowhere , in the middle of the night with nothing in sight and you want to swim miles with currents pulling you from different sides? Your swimming skills would only help if you were in a country where emergency services works. At least it would keep you alive for some minutes till you are rescued. I have said it. I would never ever step my feet in a commerical boat in Lagos. We know nothing about safety. I am sure they scrambled rescue services in the morning after it was past anything been salvageable. |
Globalhustler:35 degrees in a place like Lagos with 80 to 90% humidity is worse than 42 degrees in Maiduguri with 30 to 40% humidity. Also why the current heatwave is causing so much havoc is because it is a sharp rise in temperature levels and increased humidity in comparison to Maiduguri which has always been hot and has dry air. As long as you are under the shade in Maiduguri and not exposed to the direct sun, you are fine but if you have such temperatures in such places even staying under the shade won't save you because the air is murkier and you sweat more but the water stays around and doesn't evaporate (i.e loose a lot of water while you still feel heavy). It's a very stressful position to be in and can lead to death. I would take Maiduguri heat anytime in comparison to Lagos heat or what they are experiencing in Europe currently. |
I knew Nigeria was gone when I saw the kind of guns and tactics the Nigerian Army deployed to guard a whole camp housing 2000 Corp members. I would do better at surveillance than they did. I feel for those who have to depend on such in the North East for protection. |
Omooba77:Leave Nigerian artisans alone make them Dem Bobo themselves. We all talk about nation building but you can't build a nation when the basic sets of nation building which are artisans and handy people are poorly skilled and not hard working enough. Ask a Nigerian carpenter to make you a wardrobe and you would almost want to take your money back. Poor finishing and they take forever. Same with a Tailor or even a mechanic. Give it to someone from Togo or Benin and you would be amazed at how straight it is and perfect. We are always about making money and not bettering the skills . The average artisan is still working with skills he gained from his Trainer who learnt in the 1970s. Something outdated. First money they get they use it to flex instead of reinvesting in themselves to learn more. |
Bestinstinct:Most are just blinded by the bulk sum. 30k in 12months is 360k. Factor in the cost you spend on servicing the car monthly due to the rigours you go through daily , then the stress from driving long hours daily and you would see your are shortchanging yourself in the long run. If we had rail systems that worked and you could hop into a train from the city centre to the outskirts then that's fine but staying far away in most Nigerian cities is just a death wish. If you don't have a car, you contend with One chance, pick pockets, stress of hapharzard public transport system. If you have a car, long distance, bad roads , costs of maintenance. So why not just move closer and cut those troubles out of your life? |
Goodplace:No one size fits all when it comes to renting. All those useless rules that people post about your house rent not been more than 3 months salary is absolute BS. There are things you consider. Safety, proximity to work, what amenities are available, how good is the electricity? If those things are good and in the long run would save you costs, it is better to take it and have peace of mind rather than living in an area where security is poor and at the end of the year your phone has been snatched on your way back home and house burgled twice. If the 200k is a good place, please take it and learn to cut out some other expenses to make up for it. |
maybachmusic:No mind am 08 Camry that can't average more than 20Km/Galon and a new car that would average 50Km/Galon is what they are comparing. That's on fueling alone let alone maintenance costs. |
Chai. Illiterate bloggers at it again. In any homicide case, the police always see the spouse as a suspect. So forget all these stories been peppered around. Until they can clear them of all wrong doings, they are still cross examined to ascertain there was no foul play. |
seunfly:Guy chill. I get her point and I agree 100%. Most small businesses made in Nigeria products are just not good enough no matter the price. I have stopped buying non name brand Nigerian things. Bought a basic work shoe for 20k from a so called Nigerian biz and just wearing it around feels like a chore. It's so heavy , makes clanking noises while walking on tiles and the finishing was poor. The gum in between has become bad and that's the story with not only me but others too. I have given them 2nd, 3rd or even 4th chances but at this point seems like throwing money down the drain so I have totally stopoed. That same 20k would get me an average classy Claks or Giogior Brutini that I would still be wearing 5 years from now. Same thing with shirts . You give a local tailor to help sew and one of the most annoying thing is them not understanding basic body movements. Check the armpits of most locally sewn clothes and see how tight those areas are. I want to be able to raise my hands and move around and not walked around as if my arms are stuck together with super glue. Finishing is poor and you would wonder at the lack of quality controls. Compare a locally made trousers and a small name brand from the UK and you would marvel. No linens , pockets get holes within months even without putting sharp objects. Go round and name numerous Nigerian products and look at the absolute drop in quality from whence they started. I don't even need to start naming them, the history of Gala alone is enough to tell you what it feels like. I don't mind paying for goods but if I would be paying over the top then the products should be worth it . And at this point most Nigeria made products don't deserve my patronage |
festacman:She was setup to fail. Not a single PM would come in and be able to fix the issues James Cameron knew what he was doing dropping the mic after the BS he created. The truth is the best they can do is just go back to the population and get a revote. The country is bleeding seriously and lots of things have been put on hold in the last 3 years just because of Brexit. There's no way Brexit was going to succeed. You have two sides with very compelling reasons not to compromise. Do they leave with no deal which is a no go area for the UK as the country would be adversely aaffacted or leave with a deal which the Remain team argues is even worse off than remaining because what's the point of the leave campaign if you leave and just get some agreements and not have a say in the affairs of the EU which to me is a quite true. Democracy sometimes ain't the best deal especially in this age of misinformation and fake news. People vote based on social media sentiments not on facts. Too many points of information that it is hard to even to sieve through what is true and what is a lie. Quite sad for her . |
crackhaus:I know it won't go beyond your to nitpick posts and take things out of context. You need to calm down and look at the bigger picture . I am male by the way so that throws a lot of your opinions out of the window. Since you don't even have a clue let me break this down for you. The Alabama Gov is a woman but this is a legislation coming from the state legislators. Also my earlier post is a response to worldwide movement by governments trying to legislate people's personal freedoms. In your miniscule mind you can't process the wider picture that world over men control most positions of power nay some few exceptions. As a matter of fact 85% of Alabama's state legislators are males. I am sure if there were a balance to this or if the males were more sensible they would have considered calling women groups into the discussions before legislsting over their lives. So please mechionu. I won't be doing a back and forth with you. My point still stands . Why is there is a great proportion of men trying to legislate over a woman's body and what she does with it? |
I honestly can't understand why it is mostly men trying to tell women what to do with their bodies. Get the fcck off and stop preaching to people. I am sure you also won't agree to getting held off from getting rid of a life altering situation if you as a a man would be the one to carry a pregnancy that could take you out. Or don't we even care about the suffering kids who maybe born with abnormalities. Let the child of one of these hypocrites get pregnant via whatever means (rape or consensual sex ) and you would see them going undercover to ensure they get rid of the pregnancy but they would open their loud mouths in public to condemn others who have legitimate reasons for going for such. And check well these are the same people opposed to sex education, availability of contraceptives and support counseling for young adults. Abstinence ain't the only way and you can't suppress natural habits. Just like telling a goat not to eat grass. People would have sex. It's natural. Nothing you gonna do about it. Not everyone is a religious buff. You can't legislate people's personal freedoms based on your own religious or personal ideals. We should be leveraging ways of getting people more educated about using contraceptives or creating better alternatives like male contraceptives. The major aim of people pushing for this bill ain't the health of the child or mother but just looking for ways of purnishing women for having sex because to an extent they are the ones that bear the personal consequences for that singular action. |
superlanny:This is not about depression ALONE but copy cat acts. Are you guys surprised there's been more proliferation of people commiting suicide and pushing the scale since the advent of widespread uncontrolled mushroom news outlets called Bloggers? It's proven that when someone commits suicide and it's publicised a lot of people would definitely want to follow through with it. Most court attention and they see similar cases and want the same euphoria. It's like petrol to a burning fire. You just spurred them on and gave them more leeway for their acts. 6-7 years ago you see people push through with hardship but nowadays we are normalizing suicide and making it trend with our so called hunger and poverty invested bloggers pushing such without providing the balance in terms of healthy materials that people facing depression can harp on. Yeah we had suicides back then but it was not as frequent and daring as this. That's why in sensible countries there are better ways of reporting suicide instead of what useless Bloggers and Social media people are doing in Nigeria. Pasting it everywhere and reporting half truths and sensationalizing deaths for a few bucks. I wish we can honestly ban unverified news blogging in Nigeria. Those people need to go. If you are depressed or feeling low, please speak to a counselor or someone. Your pastors, Imams are there for the religious ones. Step out of the house and don't let those bad thoughts cloud your judgement. You should get help and speak out. Depression is an illness that needs tending to. |
dominique:Some of us predicted that as far back as April 19 when Barca was playing Man Utd. If you watch those teams play it was obvious that they were the better team in terms of cohesion and play. I have always said if there was one EPL team that could best Barca. It was Liverpool and for the Man City vs Spurs game it was a local derby and anything could have happened but I felt Spurs could edge it. Ajax play beautiful football but they reminded me of that Monaco team from few years back, they would falter at some point and it only took 45mins for that to happen. They let off the gas pedal. |
Nigerians just don't take their personal safety seriously. That's why tons die needless deaths. If you check well, that viewing center would have only one exit and probably poor ventilation. You would see them coverge back there again tonight. Instead of looking at the tragedy and finding solutions to avoiding a reooccurence. They would shout It is the devil. Safety Safety Safety is something most throw into the wind and just believe we would survive. It's not my turn we shout. Those who just died also posted the same thing few months back. |
