israelmao:Even if they choose to forget, we will remember fir a long, long time as Mr. Buhari's legacy. Mindless, plan-less, wanton financial recklessness of the highest order. A so called great leaders led and misled by reprobate Ministers. I said it on 2014 that by the end of his stint in 1983 that every one of his Minister's and MILADS were billionaires despite the much trumpeted anti-corruption veneer. Same thing repeating itself today. There in a public bark of a ferocious dog but a private whimper in government house where his appointees get away with anything and everything as a result of poor leadership. |
mrvitalis:An ignorant citizenry will always be at the mercy of deceitful leadership who are apt to sell smoke. Here we go with another economy damaging subsidy drama. We are not even talking about repaying the loan by the way. And we all know how fast hardware degrades when not serviced properly as a result of inadequate operational funding. What a sad, vicious cycle. |
Hahaha.... infrastructure drives economy indeed. Giving an ignorant man all the tools of success will not make him a success until the ignorance is purged. We repeatedly told them so and told them how it is done elsewhere is the 'successful world'. But they imagine it is a great decision to pay trillion naira loans with daily loses of 2 million meaning we have invested in another 'subsidy scam' abi. Who do this to us biko. |
Hmmm.... no wonder they lost shockingly. |
Watching the funeral right. An icon has truly passed on. The last in a generation of truly iconic world leaders. Such a great woman an beautiful soul. |
Good one from the government. Great development. |
Waivers are necessary by nature as stimulus for nascent enterprises and as insurance in bad times but these should be term based and not open ended and when such enterprises are stable, government should recover every penny conceded. So these crazy waivers should be ended as it is already. None of them qualifies for it anymore. How can you be giving waivers to a bouyant enterprise that is in the process of expanding business. That is an economic crime and in a working democracy with independent institutions the EFCC should be looking into it with a view to investigating both the receiver and giver to determine if no underhand dealings are behind it's sustenance. |
comrChris:The problem is the people. They shield ruling governments too much from scrutiny and this lack of public knowledge about the facts and detailed workings of government means that when government changes the new one spends a lot of time learning the inner workings and tailoring such realities with their own development strategy. You can see this is electioneering campaigns which are light on facts and details but heavy on propaganda. A typical fact is that an outgoing government may have accumulated so much financial liabilities that the incoming one has little leverage to fund substantial expenditure. Who is the cause of this scenario? The people. For permitting such or at the very least making much noise about it that it becomes news. Democracy is not only what a governor, councilor or president does but what the people are involved in. Civic participation does not end with elections. Citizens are custodians of transitions, they are the gear boxes of democracy. |
And then you see foreigners empowered while the youth are idle. I repeat once again. Public works and investment in infrastructure should be the key to job creation and economic stimulus. These jobs can and should be done by direct labour. They are not beyond the technical and managerial capacity of ordinary citizens. It is understandable if such big budget, technically complex works such as the 2nd Niger bridge are handled by expatriates because revenue can be generated from them via tolls, etc to offset the high overhead costs, but when dealing with ordinary, inner-city roads and bridges, culverts and drains that are socially driven and will never pay back then the benefits should go to empowering the taxpayer. This is the only way to develop an economy sustainably. |
VKN23:He said report such a case. I am sure you read that. |
Sorry for him and the sad state of security in Nigeria. I repeat, one of the hard ways to reduce crime in Nigeria is to extend liability to relations particularly parents. But on his part, to try and resist three armed men is not wise in the slightest. He is lucky to be alive. |
Thebadpolitican:Oga. There are different styles of architecture just as there are different styles of clothings, cuisine, and everything bordering on artistry. From a distant perspective they appear to have retained the neo-colonial architecture which is a style that resembles the trado-mediterranean. Not every building can and should be squared off steel and glass. To me it looks fantastic. |
My friend, it is not colonial masters that introduced Christianity but missionaries. And if you read the history very well you will know two things, first of all they did not come at the same time. The Great Colonization of Africa (sub-saharan Africa) started in 1884, the first Christian missionaries came to these parts in 1893 so they are not one and the same group. Secondly, there were many historical reports that not only did they not operate in the same localities but they often worked in cross purposes and often clashed with the colonial authorities in the way their missions were run. Thirdly and finally, not all missionaries were of British origin. As a matter of fact it is widely known that every continent where Christianity first landed, it was led by the Portuguese. Colonialists were here under the orders of the Crown but not every missionary outreach was affiliated with the Church of England or even British for that matter. Read the history of the Soudan Interior Mission (SIM), the largest missionary outreach to Africa for better reference. |
Is he one of those given citizenship recently. Just asking?... ![]() |
ASUU and NANS are just playing games. When they are ready they will openly sit down with opposition parties to negotiate support and watch the ruling government sort out the matter in 24hrs. We just do not know how to use the instrumentality of democracy to get what we want. Power is everything. Threaten the ruling power with defeat and they will give you anything. Dull, ignorant citizens... duh. |
Another car on the auction block ??... ![]() Then the driver will bring his mum to weep.... |
...'political dynasty' indeed. Sounds more like a monarchy than a democracy. So what happens if they don't... will they be banished from the 'Empire'. |
Association of Troublemakers. |
Since the heydays of the 'dot.com' bubble tech has always been a minefield and until bits and bytes can be turned to bricks and bites I will view every supposed success story with a pinch of salt. |
Sltp:Must everything be you versus government. Don't you have a single iota of sympathy, care or respect FOR YOUR FELLOW CITIZEN? If a loved one was knocked down and paralysed by such crass action and the person came up to you saying it was not his fault but that of the government, will you take that from him? Where is your humanity or sense of responsibility. Nigerians.... And by the way I was born in Lagos and started driving in 1991 and I will tell you for a fact, Lagos traffic and congestion is one of the reasons for giving up on Lagos with a certain finality in 2003. Today I can wake by 6am, leave my house by 7am and be at work by 7.30am instead of 4.am I used to. Blame others all you like, people are dying in traffic and by traffic and the government has stepped up, but to you folks it is still a problem. You just love your chaos don't you. |
tuzle:I can't live or work anywhere near the top and not have a closet full of parachutes for family and friends. Skydiving will surely be my pastime. |
Mein Gott!!!!.... folks in all the surrounding buildings should evac fast. Once the temperature of that fire reaches 425 celsius a cascade of structural failure is triggered and at 650 degrees its all over. |
Sltp:So we should kill ourselves until the roads are fixed. So if government is mad, our choice is to be madder. Can you imagine. And the fact is that most of these habitual law breakers know they are felons so they speed up to avoid apprehension making a dangerous situation even more callous. |
And people have the temerity to compare livelihoods to lives and the souls of men to cars and buses. Nigerians against this are heartless, callous and vile citizens, period. If any of those offending guys in the tweets were caught they will be serving time for manslaughter or vehicular homicide. Of what use will be their vehicles to them after the fact. If any of them is found near the auction site they should be arrested and their cases reopened by the police to ensure they have not previously maimed or terminated anyone's life and absconded. Nonsense. |
Nnamaka1:Crushing will have been better but I am certain offsetting some of the costs of enforcing traffic laws via LASTMA budgets was a consideration. The Lagos taxpayer doles out huge amounts to free up the roads. Surely there must be a way out. |
jaybenugo:Nigerians like drama. You had all these challenges before the fact and they could not sober you up and elevate your thinking to do the right thing. You are lucky the crusher was not an option in sanitizing Lagos roads. It is your type that ejected me from Lagos in 2003 with all finality. Simply cannot live with your type. |
ATLIEN2027:Oga statistics. Get this right in your head. There are accidents all over the place. Some avoidable, others not. What sane minds question is the preparedness to survive them and the capacity to overcome them. I have never seen the scene of an accident where the victim sits or stays there in finality either alive or dead. If the victim is dead he is evacuated, if the victim is alive he is treated. The difference between most of these nations and Nigeria is the actions after the fact. WHAT IS THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT DOING ABOUT THE INFLATION CRISES? All over Europe, Asia and the Americas governments are taking concrete actions to combat inflation and succeeding in some cases. Why is Nigeria different. Where are the palliatives, where are the policy actions to tighten belts where wastage, corruption eats into the treasury, nothing. This inept government continues as if nothing matters simply because the people are docile and will rather die in despondency than stand up against their sentiment. Just sorry for Nigeria. Imagine comparing Nigeria with Sudan, Venezuela and Syria, nations under sanctions and at war? Which kind of nonsensical analysis is that? |
Let me summarize it for dummies who insist on progressing in error. If your salary of N10,000, N100,000 or N1,000,00 has not increased to N12,000, N120,000 or N1,200,000 by the end of the year, you have either ended the year poorer or started 2023 poorer than 12 months earlier. Developed nations fear inflation more than external conflict itself and as I have said before governments rise and fall on their ability or inability to tame it. Here the government in less concerned and the people are too ignorant and decadent to recognize this existential threat to the quality of their lives. If the ruling APC cannot make concrete moves to reverse this figure then it cannot be elected back to power. If not the economy will only worsen. |
dazzlingd:C'mon We are talking about the No. 1 leader in the world, just departed. How many leaders of our time rule for over 70 years. How many leaders of our time are Heads of State of multiple nations. You are witnessing history that will certainly NEVER be repeated. That is a privilege.... if you value history. This is the end of an era, good, bad or neutral. |
Hmmm.... indeed.... until Putin's flight to the Hague. God save the King |
OROSUNBOLB:Of course the people decide the kind of society they live in. If the people feel traffic as a result of misdemeanors is not a weighty concern I am sure the State will hands off. The officials criticised here can always get sirens to clear their way anytime the wander around. The government is simply responding to what it thought the people yearned for, alas they were all pretending it was a concern.... not so.? Only in Nigeria are the people unable to decide what they want. And this demonstration of confliction is why this nation simply cannot move forward. We truly need restructuring to establish common values. |
eghuan1:He should not even be allowed near the premises. And should not be eligible to bid. Where is the deterrent then. |
