holuphisayor:Hmmmm....Wembley will resemble an abattoir.... |
pacifique:What nonsense dredging. The amount of material that can be removed in a year will be replaced within hours of a heavy down pour. The Niger has its origins in the deep sahel, that is semi arid regions where vegetation that can retain both mositure and soil is sparse. Same problem the Yangstze in China faces. It is a heavily silted river so what Government's do is to plan around the problem not throw away money needlessly in an attempt to tame one of the greatest forces of nature. What those folks in the affected areas should do is to dyke the river to keep flooding out and control navigation. Just like the Lekki peninsula and Lagos Island, the battle to keep water out is already lost and it is only a matter if time before it becomes far too expensive to live in these flood prone areas. It is the product of global warming and a climate out of control in its extremities. Too bad. |
.....discrimination and body shaming. They should take the PSC to court.... ![]() |
micolaj:Read Duke's statement carefully. You observe the statement: 'against the clamour'... That is the hallmark of democracy, a leader's ability to read the flow of public opinion and respond appropriately in their interest. There is no one that knows it all. And that is why democracy puts the burden of governance in the hands of the people. In a democracy public opinion counts. It puts you on the throne and it should sustain you. A call by the public to broaden the ethnicity of the security apparatus is credible, tangible and foresighted. It represents a clamour for change in the way things have been done. It a defacto call for restructuring. It so unfortunate that supporters of Mr. President's move roll out history of the same failed systems in previous administrations to justify it. And then quarrel with those who say nothing indeed has changed.... So sad. |
But you have become exactly what he was, a bitter soul complete with swearing, cursing and bad blood. Seems what goes round has come around and instead of breaking what is essentially a vicious generational cycle.you are just towing with the flow. I am dead sure your late father had same or sorts of experiences with his dad, your grandad. Very unwise but I understand you must be eager to trend and perhaps get a reality tv check in. |
It is what they do after this thay will determine their fate tomorrow. Most will just shrig thwir shoulders and carry on. The founding fathers of America were visionary. They gave each citizen the right to bear arms and the right to self defence because they knew the worth of life. Here our vision less, greedy leaders do everything possible to weaken the citizenry socially, economically, educationally and thus leave them vulnerable to feudal over reach. The worst part is that the citizens who are being used for target practice will still follow these wolves in sheeps garbs with the noose of religious divisions and ethnic sectionalism. Ask the living amongst them if they want to continue existing by supporting a restructuring of this sinking ship called Nigeria to make it resemble a habitable space and they will put you on hold while they consult their oppressors and the rest they say is history. |
All for the automobile that will soon become extinct. |
Of course that is your desire, your personal agenda... or vendetta, simply because those you lead by the nose ring know no better so they ask you no questions or seek your attention to their plight. We must elect you because of you... not us.... failed nonsensical politicians. |
deomelo:But he was selected and annoited by Jagaban himself and you folks all acknowledged the 'man' as the myth and the legend. So if the 'selectee' is now failing why can't we deduce that the selector is faulty as well. What guarantee do you have that the new selectee will be better. Who gives the warranty of performance when it comes to elected public officers in Nigeria... no one. So expecting a person who is not democratically elected to perform is at best a gamble. If he did not do this and that it is because you did not ask him to do those things you claim he has failed in. You did not ask him for anything. And you will not ask the new man anything because Oga Jagaban has asked on your behalf. My man, until you folks and the rest of Nigeria can elevate your thinking and begin to do things properly, what you see in your society will be the best you will experience in your lifetime. I have made peace with myself that this country cannot be better because the citizenry that should make it simply cannot unshackle themselves from mental slavery. With all the boasting about Lagos state as being the best run enclave in Nigeria since 1999 you still get failings like this is just unfortunate. 20 years of the rule of the Jagaban has not made it a Dubai or Singapore. Just the same ol, same ol rubbish you see in other parts of the country. |
deomelo:Yes, if Oga says so. Now tell us what is really on your mind.... your own mind. Indeed the first liberty of a man has to be that of the mind before he can gain contrary experiences. |
Unserious set of people. Totally disappointed we still don't have a working democratic engine of power and opposition. Every roach just boring holes in the walls of the nation. |
Bad roads everywhere. Kogi is a mess in and out. Stuck trucks stretching several kilometres. Edo east is terrible. Benue highways are a mess. Imo, Abia... Where will you say the government is working objectively. Highway infrastructure in the centre of the country and the east has collapsed. In times past this is where FERMA comes into play. Today, nothing. No intervention anywhere. What is going on. And instead of asking their government take action stupid, silly Nigerians are busy casting aspersions against individuals letting those charged with.those tasks off the hook. I have never seen such stupid citizenry before. What is the point in a change of government if what you are getting is worse than before. If the present government knows it has no blame, no responsibility to do anything, it will not do anything and this is what we see happening. It took me fifteen hours to get to Port Harcourt yesterday and I absolutely regretted that decision. What the Minister of Works needs to do immediately and for the duration of the rest of the rainy season is to set up a rapid response intervention squad comprising civil engineers (not contractors) that will identify critical spots along major highways by SOS calls backed up with audio-visual evidence of the carnage and response to ameliorate them within 24 hours of reporting. Most of the very bad, traffic halting spots and failed sections of these highways are not extensive and not tasks that a budget of a billion naira per state cannot handle throughout the rainy season. This is just common sense for this sorry country. For me, common sense means the end of cross country road trips till January. I've had enough. Never been this bad. |
rafindo:Like the Soviet Union, Cuba and other totalitarian regimes abi. Where they are today is whete China will end up simply because the number one desire of a man is liberty and his firstdesore when he is liberated is to seek the meaning of life until hd finds his Creator. Let China not be mistaken, they will either bend or break. Countless empires over thoudands of years have tried and failed. They will all rise and fall, the will of God will always prevail. Its just a matter of time. I believe China and indeed ghe Middle East are the last battle grounds of the gospel. Once their walls crumble and the gospel reaches every man in those cities, Christ will return. |
SolutionMee:You haven't moved on. You are still here... all of the time. Even more than me who cannot and will never emigrate. |
michlins:You cannot ultimately blame a child for failed parenting. What he is is what his father has crafted. It is a law of nature. The grass at Old Trafford is watered at half time and cut, rolled and disinfected after each match while that of the National Stadium, Abuja is tended to once every two years.... and you expect the same results.... You simply cannot get out of life what you donot put in. If the Sultanate is hereditary you would think the father's preeminent concern will be about legacy and succession. Such was the anxiety of Kings and Emperors throughout time, about who follows after them and how the person completes what he started. But we are in a generation of here and now where people damn the consequences of their actions and give scant regards to what happens when they are gone. We are created to better what God has given us whether human or material resources so it behoves on every man to think about the future and secure it by making his seeds much better than him..... every man. |
gaby:Hahaha...you can say that again. The smell is awful. I have secured a perpetual injunction against the purchase, preparation and servingof that stuff anywhere near my house. Goat meat though healthier is off my wish list for life. |
otokx:If you have been a victim of mistaken identity, if you had been an innocent, unknowing passenger in that car and was dragged out by the angry mob, then you will say no to jungle justice. Mister man, in escalating violence, no one is the wiser, no one is the better for it. Revenge is for the primitive. We can never develop if we cannot institutionalise law enforcement and jurisprudence. The rest of the world cannot be wrong they way things are done and we are right. It is a big shame. No excuses. |
Bizibi:He is doing what every other President before him does, provide the land, the seeds and fertilizer. It is up to the peons to cultivate and harvest the land of the fruits of corruption. Have you seen any President counting money in the vaults of the CBN or selling crude oil in Jankara market.... If certain actions acrions are not tolerated they will be dealt with and the perpetuators indeed. You cannot claim to hate mosquitos and the malaria they bring yet kill only the ones that bite you and not those that bite your children. Mr. President should deal with all corruption because it injutes us all and not only him and his interests. |
somehow:But on another forum your likes will say. Mr. President has the prerogative to appoint whosoever he wishes into his security team without regards to ethnicity and background. This selective standard is one of the reasons Nigeria does not work. Mister man, the only folks in government that are free of Mr. President's bidding are those elected. He is absolutely responsible for everyone else in government. If they go contrary they would be punished or sacked. That is the meaning of the phrase, 'the buck stops at his table', used freely against the previous President. Now we have entered into a new era where Mr President is more concerned about what goes on and goes wrong in his neighbours compound while his own childlren run around unruly. And for folks like you to excuse that for a government that has consistently flown the kite of probity and anti corruption is just sad. Time and time again he is either unaware or unresponsive to blatant and flagrant abuses of office and outright corruption by his government and its lieutenants. When are folks like you going to burn the toga of hypocrisy and start holding someone accountable. The bottom line is brutally simple. If nothing happens to Mr. Malami on occasion of this, then it means there is complicity at the highest level of government. If he can hear the criticism and the so called fake news then he should have heard what his 'appointee' has done. We wait for action as proof of rhetoric. |
femi4:It is the responsibility of the NFF. They have a technical department. They have development programs. They should have a scouting team. Heck, between the time Nigeria lost out in the world cup and today Rohr, his coaching team, NFF officials of various departments have been paid salaries and wages running into millions. Is it unreasonable to demand certain improvement in the team. If this is the team that did so poorly at the world cup and no fundamental changes have been made then we can say without doubt that no lessons were learnt. If this is the best we have to offer then we are in serious trouble. Please leave mediocrity alone. We spend far too much reaources for the paltry results we get. We can do better. |
Just like in politcs I continue to say that Nigerians should be brutally critical and openly protest the continuous poor state of our game and national teams. If we remain silent nothing will change and we will continue to stumble from one tournament to the other. I've watched Nigerian football for several decades now and it has never been this poor. There was a time qualifying for the Nations Cup was such a given that it was either silver or bronze every tournament. We had never missed two tournaments in a row and countries like the Seychelles were a given. All others have improved and we have stagnated or regressed. We must begin to demand improvement all round because if we don't, serious embarrassment awaits. It is obvious the NFF needs a public wake up call because it appears they are satisfied with their salaries, estacode and graft they seem more expert at. |

MyExpression:The National Team is not a redemption ground. It is a proving ground especially when this is a qualifier, not a friendly. What these folks donot realise due to the cloud of sentiment in their eyes is that the group qualifier may come down to goals and not points alone then they will wish they had raised and fielded better quality in front of goal. How can you constantly field a player who cannot deliver more than a goal in three matches. For goodness sake how many matches does a national team have in qualifying or tournament to prove a player. That is how the old Fred of Brazil was fielded by sucessive coaches even though he was not productive until Btazil was humiliated by Germany in 2014. Ighalo is not up to scratch, period. We either find a half decent replacement or change formation in favour of a false 9. This team cannot take us anywhere with this quality I'm seeing. |
Despite the goals the team play is poor and team selection with the inclusion of Ighalo shows we learned nothing from the world debalcle which... is typically Nigerian, a nation of sentimental people. |
oladele00:Quit racism. What does it profit you. Just be objective and inquire on the things that matter. Assess each candidate by what they can deliver. Nigeria can not move forward with such primitive attitude. |
When are we going to restructure from red caps to the east, fedoras to the south, babanriga's to the north and agbada to campaigns to the west and wear the business suits that speak for equity, neutrality, objectivity, plurality and the seriousness that the art of governance requires. They know that our mental ability to assess their suitability cannot rise above sectionalism that breeds mediocrity so they exploit it to the fullest. We are no more than a country of nations and until the people can make the sacrifices to ignore such antics and focus instead on the matters that matter, we will never move forward. |
I agree. Its unethical....a barefaced bribe to try to cover a failed state government. |
They should just organise themselves. They have the courts to arbitrate. I for one want less rather than more government involvement in things. Government doesn't have a good track records of organising things properly. |
Beehshorp:That is because racism has overtaken this country so the assumption is that since the story is about Enugu, the man in question must be from the south-east. We need to raise our level of thinking if we are to survive and thrive in this country. People donot realise the fact that until a teacher from the north can comfortably teach students in a school in the east and a doctor from tje east can comfortably treat patients at any level in any hospital in the north and a businessman from tje wesy can comfortably set up shop in the south without the need to cluster and enclave then Nigeria can never experience a better tomorrow. Once again, the best this present system of existence we experience can offer is superficial. True, sustainable development is impossible without restructuring and the evidencewe see everyday is that racism is broadening and deepening in tandem with the downward spiral of our fortunes as a nation. |
Fantastic. I wish all infrastructure could be conducted year round like this all over. In other parts the complaint is the rainy season which I see as silly excuses by failed contractors and their government lackeys. |
This is just terrible. You run your state aground, get voted out of office as an acknowledgement and then offer yourself a gift, to reward yourself for what exactly. Is this not barefaced graft. Now when the inquisition comes his fans and supporters will be up in arms. Sometimes I just wonder how government is run. The governor just brings out the state's cheque book and orders for anything like he owned the state. That is why the only solution to good governance in this system is a continuous change of government at every opportuned time. Nigerians should realise that this system of government just doesn't work and they will need to pay through their noses for electiins and change of leadership to get it right if they donot demand restructuring. Someone said, what we need for development is stability and I replied him that, a body in a casket at the bottom of a grave is inherently stable. |
afroniger:That is where the problem comes. Alpha Beta took over from Olusola Adekanola & Co. to essentially identify potenyial areas of taxation, collect taxes and enhance the efficiency of the government tax office by training and equipping, all for a fee... which is not illegal. However the grey ties between consultants and government remains the sticking point. The proof of which is in the tenure. Tax consultancies are not audits so they have a tenure. This is 16 years and counting. Exactly when will the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue be strong and viable enough to conduct its statutory functions independently. Who decides these things. Who regulates the fees and tenure and checks for performance.... these are the questions that cause many to suspect that the government and consultants are one of the same side of the coin. And you donot need to look far. There are only two constants in the ever changing face of politics Lagos since 2002, two factors that have remained the past 16 years, that is the party and its principal, Mr Ahmed Tinubu. You donot need to look further for the answers on what is clearly breach of trust. There are rules that simply cannot make you the umpire and player at the same time. And if it is good fir the goose called Atiku and Intels, it should be for the gander. |
