Which western culture? The one I know consume a lot of meat depending on the cut.

His story is not newsworthy. Simple!
Johnmattee:
I have already said that in my post that he should show understanding, as regards culture, I repeat, Yoruba culture doesn't teach covetousness, deserving respect doesn't translate to lack of contentment, if you are a Yoruba gal and you are married by now, you'll know better. Take it or leave it, you can only discard something when you get something else, most folks abominate their culture once they have exposure to the western style...wake up.
FamilyRe: My Brother's Wife Served Me With Just A Meat Instead Of Two Meats by Sterope(f): 4:27pm On Jun 02, 2020
Culture is dynamic. It is not westernisation. There were so many things our forefathers did that didn't make it to the 21st century so stating culture is not doing it for me at all. A culture that doesn't teach contentment and understanding is not my cup of business.

Back then meat was a thing. It was not expensive and people can often source for their own meat. Everything is expensive now and corona is outside.

Also, it is their money; it is his choice to visit. They have their reasons from financial to managing the available resources or JUST CHOICE.

If he doesn't like a piece of meat, he should stop at a restaurant and shove down a whole chicken. He should complain maybe next time she should consider tap water.

Johnmattee:
That's not Yoruba culture, I didn't support the OP 100% because he's supposed to understand but who knows maybe there's a rift between the duo. Westernization has made us forgot our culture and values.

The culture that teaches respect but not contentment. Interesting!

He should not be emphatic, let him continue to hit his head. I bet the in-law doesn't know she has rented a suplex in his head.
Johnmattee:
Those people attacking the OP are probably those that don't understand Yoruba culture and tradition, though times are hard, but courtesy in my culture stipulates you treat your inlaw with respect which can come in any form. But because of the situation in the country, the OP should be empathic.
TV/MoviesRe: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Sterope(f): 6:20pm On Jun 01, 2020
Person of Interest is very good
Yampotatocarrot:
Good day everyone.

Please, I need names of series that have ended. I'm not really patient enough to wait for new episodes to come out, I prefer series that have ended already.

Genres: Something about intelligence, (e.g Lie to Me), and Comedy

I'll also like a series similar to "Secret life of an American teen-ager"... Didn't finish this cos it became boring at a point

There is nothing subtle about tribalism
EleventhWeirdo:
tribalism is a subtle bias, compared to racism, which may even include extinction threats.

The US is the epicenter of globalism, so whatever happens there calls for concerns in other parts of the world. A good one from the UK.
FamilyRe: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by Sterope(f): 9:47am On Jun 01, 2020
Yeah. They should keep spending low when at home too. Once people know you for who you are, they wont make silly demands.

onegig:
Exactly. Small circle, mind what you post.

I am not against people flaunting their wealth but what i have realised is that most of these requests are coming from people who think you are large and made based on your social media history.

People post pictures online claiming "new whip", "vacation in Bahamas" and so on without explaining that most of these were funded by years of savings . Don't be offended when you get numerous requests from people sending you messages to "help your boy". It's not your fault it is just the culture.

Criminals are still going to find it easier and less work to break into.

onegig:
I understand personal homes but we have all these busy bodies everywhere and world over people want their privacy but public buildings, schools? Libraries, banking halls? Even buildings on enclosed streets?

And the fallacy of blocks fending off robbery is absolute fallacy. Your house is as safe as the security in the neighborhood. No matter the height of the fence the only thing you can do to protect it is maybe put in deterrents like cameras, electric safety wiring on top of fencess etc, but those are even useless in some scenarios.

He didn't emphatise enough. And he has practically blamed women for men 'urges' in yhe past.

Some of us don't hold people who share same opinion as him in high regards whether family or not, we respect them in other matters. But when they ire, we let them know. Some fathers and elderly ones in some cultures would ridicule their daughters if she were in this position and alive. So, it really isn't about having an elderly. An elderly person can be as silly as a toddler. It is about fighting a system that encourages rape and has failed to take a clear firm stance against it.

Adeboye could have said so much more.

Ingriid:
Gosh! Why are some people so full of hate, bitterness and all sort of Ill manners?

If u can’t respect this man as a man of God, that’s fine but why can’t u respect him as an elderly man that could pass for ur grandfather or less ur father? Someone even calls him slowpoke, how despicable!

I listened to this sermon this morning, this man just said this statement in passing with no strings attached., and for those of u shouting he predicted, did u watch d video and heard d word ‘prophecy from him.

Shame on you if u are educated and u can’t just watch the video and digest before u comment. .

Mscheew! Any topic that has to do with these men of God , u see them rushing out in numbers to come insult them. May God heal ur heart.

Common sense
FamilyRe: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by Sterope(f): 5:22pm On May 31, 2020
Keep your family circle small and prioritise. Ask uncomfortable questions about demands, especially from overbearing parents. When family members push responsibilities like 'why don't you get mum a car', ask them who would be responsible for fuel, repairs etc;

'You should pay so and so fees', ask them if his parents are dead or what happened? If a nephew asks for money, ask him to forward his request to his parents or an outright no. When you give Mr A some money, warn him not to tell Mr B.

There are always exceptions, it is uncomfortable but you will get used to it. Obviously, your 'friends' will not expect you to be financially responsible for them, it doesn't mean you won't care if you really think they need it or if you are feeling charitable.
EducationRe: Two New State Universities In South Africa (PICS) by Sterope(f): 12:25pm On May 31, 2020
Our culture and security play a role in our preferences. Many people wouldn't want their privacy out there and people rarely mind their business. Even homes with large windows to let in natural light are often obscured with huge curtains.

onegig:
The buildings are beautiful but it's not like they are "out of the world" when compared to Nigerian University buildings except for the designs and how they accommodate nature to build the enticing structures. Unilorin has a flowing River and Dam. Instead of building stuctures to explore this natural asthetics. We run away from them or sandfill water bodies, cut down trees. Only OAU did a bit of this and that was like 50 years back.

The biggest problems of modern day Nigerian architecture is we use way too much block.

Like almost all buildings explore the use of cement based blocks for construction. Our architects don't like to explore the use of space or make use of other materials like glass, clay and wood to bring out beautiful structures.

Yes it may cost you extra and may need regular maintenance which we lack but they are lots of durable materials out there especially clay and iron that can be forged to make beautiful pieces.

Just slam a pillar down and start building blocks is what we know how best to do. Can't blame them, you get what you pay for. We believe glass is only for window silt and this is evident in most public structures and personal houses constructed.

If you didn't have the means i can understand but i sometimes feel irritated when i see people post pictures of so called multi million naira buildings of some celebrities and it's just a mold of block with a roof. Nothing special and the asthetic feels like a prison with the high walls and what not.

This simple act would improve the efficiency of the police

But because they have put their brothers at the disadvantage of other states they won't agree

You are quite silly. There are many non-Igbos that have tried this and some had to align with them because of threats of witchcraft.

It is one of the reasons our market women (Yorubas) don't like Hausa foodstuff sellers in some markets

Lol. How many bags are the leaders buying at a time?
2loadedguy:
A lot of times we are quick to criticize but don't think deeply on the reason some rules are laid down in business. Onions are perishable goods and the union knows that if u have surplus u will be forced to sell at lower price because u won't want them to perish hence the reason for the rationing. Your mum too is benefitting from these rules because if other sellers have surplus they will sell at lower prices that will push your mum out of business since she won't be able to compete and the cycle goes on.
My advise to you is to abide by the rules in that market then look for another market to be selling in days u don't have rations to sell at that market and to the fool that quoted if we have onion sellers here and those that liked his comment. Never you make mockery of someone else's means of livelihood else hunger will be your portion in life.

Okayla:
Look for holes in the law and explore, that’s what education will help u do,if u need help let me know I will send u 10bags of onions from jos.
Where do I keep the onion by the end of business,do they monitor how many u take in or how many u bring out?

Our belief systems aren't enough to divide us. You choose to do that on your own.

jesmond3945:
the truth of the matter is our belief system divides us. That's why both adherents seek to make their belief system the only one in the world to create that unity. That's also why the New world order wants to juxtapose both belief system to create unity. As core adherent of one belief system, I would not subscribe to another beielf system but that doesn't mean I would not reach out in love to other adherents of the opposing belief system because it is a must I do so.
