that was why i asked your location, in SW here you can build a 1000 capacity pen with 300-500k(excluding land). labour and materials cost will determine if you will spend more or less than that over there.

budget another 500-600k to rear them for 8weeks(DOC, vaccine,feed,transport etc inclusive).

budget between 30-40k for the tools(tray and big feeders,big and small drinkers etc)

Note: you must be very sure of the market before you invest your money in broilers production.

its very possible to start a laundry business with 20k or less. Though the op's claim of making 200k monthly from the business is not true. From the initial stage, one needs to do a lot of advertising to get clients to patronize you.

How? Ok, like collecting cloth from one house to another and take it home to wash or start asking people on the street if they need his/her service. If you ask me one of the businesses that one need to start in a professional way in order to make it big,laundry is one of them.

Who the hell do you expect to patronize such person? Probably those that gave him their cloth to wash after much persuasion and give him token sum of money? I know like 3 guys doing it in my area. Despite having numerous local customers,(don't let me say the rest).

Packaging matter a lot in every business, and the said 20k or whatever is not enough to set up a moderate laundry business that would attract at least the decent middle class customers.

Broilers gives back what you gave them and that's all. Except you're giving them very poor quality feed or all your birds are runts, you should be able to get the said average weight with 4kg of feed per bird.

Besides, didn't you see where I said the guy should make his prize a little bit higher 390/400?

Poultry meat business is profitable at the point which the business man operates and information and infrastructure he utilises. I make 27-30%. You can and do make more above you 14%.

Nice you make such profit! Please read the post again sir. Those calculations were not for the experts or those who can minimize their costs in one way or the other. It was based on the worst you could received as profit(if others problem did not occur). I didn't say I made or anyone should/must make 14% profit o.

I am about to sign a deal with one of the popular fastfood outlets in town, to supply a minimum of 3,000Kg of dressed birds monthly.

And you know what price they offered? N650 per Kg.

Even the small frozen food shops I supply to before this always buy at this range.

That's business bro, they're doing business too. Remember they bought them life, so after removing feathers,intestine,transport, labour, fuel to freeze etc, they will want to make profit too.

With all the risks involved in poultry farming, you expect a farmer to risk his/her N616,000 because he/she is targeting a profit of less than 15% of the capital invested?

Bro, the price he offered is very much poor. Mind you we didn't even factor out cost of labour in the calculation.

Trust me, the calculation I made above was for the novice who don't know how to cut down the cost. Like I said before, by the time DOC will reach #150 or above as stated above, you won't have any reason to raise the birds for the processors but for the Xmas and new year. And this is the time you make more than 100 percent profit.

So chances are high that you will buy your DOC for less than #150 I mentioned in my previous post.

Besides, I added #50/bird as a miscellaneous. Your mortality too should be very minimal if your management is ok.

See my brother, there's no business in the world that's devoid of risk. I've done a business of over a million naira and lost everything within a space of six month. Besides, 14% profit within 6 weeks is not absolutely bad if you ask me. Many businesses offers less than that, it's because we don't do it in large quantity that we thought the profits were small.

A CAPITAL yes for a farmer with 1000 birds above.

Let me break it down for you guys thinking the guy is a thief. Though he should have make it 390/400 to attracts more supplies.

Except between August and October, DOC is usually below #150 or even below #100. Our present stock is #90/bird.

A birds is expected to take between 3.5kg/4.0kg of feed between day 1 to 6weeks/seven weeks. And the expected body weight during this period should be around 1.8kg/2kg depending on your feeding patterns. And let assume you didn't made your feed(quite less expensive) but you bought it ready made(top feed). A 25kg of broiler starter worth #2700 and finisher mash 2600. But they're doing promo now, you can get it 2600 and 2500 naira respectively.

DOC #150/bird

Feed #416/4kg

Others # 50

Total #616

with the guy prize 1.9kg worth #703- 616= #87/bird.

With the above calculation, the profit is #87/bird( not much) but you can minimize you cost by making use of concentrate and maize(especially finisher mash). You also make more profit if the prize of DOC is below the amount mentioned above.

That's quite ridiculous! Except you're still getting paid/feed from your parent, you can't survive on 10k salary anywhere in Nigeria.

Add a small quantity of 'DD force' into the water and spray the surrounding area of your pen. This should keep them away for few hours. So, do it at least once a day(especially in the evening).

By liquid investment, I meant the investments that could be easily converted into cash. Eg, Treasury Bill, Fixed Deposit, buying and selling of gold and foreign currencies etc.

By sleeping partner, I meant you contributes money to the business without taking active part in such a business. The sharing formula depends on the initial agreement between you and your partners.

It's quite not an easy task to be running a business with studies. Meanwhile, you can make your money work for you by investing in a liquid investment or becoming a sleeping partner with someone you really trust.

Note: what makes you a better person is the ability to study your society needs and comes up with an appropriate decision/idea to tackle them from the limited available resources, harsh economic condition or times.
