BullBearMkt: I appreciate your view, Oga Emma, and I fully acknowledge the importance of understanding the underlying business of a stock. However, I believe it's also essential to appreciate the different strategies that people use to generate profits in the stock market.
In my experience, proficient traders can realise substantial profits even from "dead stocks." without necessarily delving into the business intricacies behind each stock. Their focus, instead, is often on price, volume, and market sentiment. Now, where Fundamental Analysis shines is in helping establish the intrinsic value of a stock, which can help maximise returns in the long term.
I will not say much on Unity Bank, but as a trader, I see opportunity if price can dip a bit. How is the chart for Stanbic IBTC looking from your end bro |

emmanuelewumi: Did you consider the earning growth portion of the equation.
Earning growth made an investor who got a dividend of 200k from United Capital about 9 years ago to get a dividend of N1.5 million from the company in 2023 without increasing his holdings I did and also factored in companies like access bank,UBA who can been stingy with dividends and choose not to increase it like until this year(access) and rather remained same for a long time even with increased earnings. UBA can even choose to reduce dividend like they did in 2020 or 2021 while their peers maintained theirs. If they do like ucap toping their dividends with corresponding growth in earnings, that Won't be a bad idea like we saw with nahco and some other names. They will do well to match these new levels with good yearly dividend yield |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by debeey87(m): 2:54pm On Jun 14, 2023 |
emmanuelewumi: Dividend yield of 10% and above is an aberration, we should should getting use to dividend yield of 4% to 7% in the coming days.
Your total return is the dividend yield plus the earning growth.
Imagine United Capital with dividend yield of 12% plus earning growth of 20% in the past Na capital growth go remain to de hunt at that time because wetin I wan carry 4-7% annual do like in savings account. |

robobo: Playing devils advocate.
the circumstances differ
in the case BCC; Alhaji was buying into it (meaning he was not holding a controlling interest and he needed to buy out the other/ minority shareholders to hold a control interest which would later allow BCC to be merged with) so there was a clear need from Alhaji which could have necessitated the juicy price you mentioned above
However, for Dang Sugar and Nascon, Alhaji already is the majority holder in both and there might not be a NEED that would necessitate the juicy price. I agree with you. He did same with shareholders of savannah sugar in Adamawa by integrating them into dangote sugar. Perhaps he's looking at something similar to Bua foods. |

[quote author=yMcy56 post=123628531]Lol. Wait till ETERNA's price gets to 20 first before you start wondering about how to justify the share price... Can CONOIl justify its price @78+?? At least the corruption don reach smart people wey don chop or still dey chop...
At least we saw eps of over 4naira from Q1, they might print same numbers or higher through the rest of the quarters. E go come remain to declare better dividend but knowing who uncle Mike and his board members are, they fit remain on 2.5naira. Remember last year closed with at least 8naira eps. All my noise about eps is based on dividend hunting for me as I am not a trader so I rely more on companies that can pay sustainable dividends backed by earnings numbers(cash fit no de to pay in time tho) Let the corruption continue. Note: I don't do TA, I only look at few numbers from the financial report not as indepth as most of the resource people here do. |

Off all these downstream companies asides Total, my money is only on conoil considering their Q1 eps. I don't know how eterna that paid 0.15k will justify over 12naira share price and counting. MRS that can't even pay anything out of their over 3naira eps is trading over 40naira. Like some people have said, let the corruption go round. |

Mpeace: Conoil q1 result was more than fantastic. The eps increase was super. If they maintain same by q2 then the flying will be unprecedented Uncle Mike needs to do better when it comes to dividend payment. Now that we're probably heading towards an eps of perhaps more 10naira, hopefully he can pay at least 5naira and in good time as well Caveat: I get tasere units I have held pre-2020 was tempted to offload all but the illiquid nature trapped me so I stayed put. |

44chux: Am not qualified to answer, but since none has responded, let me try my best.
Basically plaster sand is just choice between sand, clay/silt, or a varying mixture of both.
The pure sand gives a harsh texture, which should normally require wall screeding before paint is applied. It also requireds plenty cement and or bonding agent. But the sand does not shrink or expand, hence it doesn't result in any cracks.
The pure clay/silt gives a smooth finish as if the wall hath already been screeded. Requires little or no cement / bonding agent. But clay swells when moist and shrinks when dry resulting in ugly mud cracks.
Basically they use a varying mix of both to achieve the positives of both worlds.
The mixing can be done on site by the artisans or naturally in the river where the sand was dredged. The further upstream of the river, and the more coarse sand aggregates, while the further down the river, the more finer and more clay content
The gum is his way of understanding clay's sticky properties. Recall they don't use cement in clay pots, bricks and tiles but just clay stickiness is enough
Hope this helps. Thank you and this does provide some clarity. |

Conoil will need to do better. You can't be making an eps of over 7naira and you can't increase your payout. Q1 alone ended with an eps over 4naira. |

On choice of plaster sand.
Bricklayers have told me some sand have more gum than others hence they advocate for the ones with gum for plastering. It appears price vary for each type as well from suppliers.
There's also the notion about white and not so white plaster sand.
My question border around what disadvantage is there with using sand without enough gum and can cement which is a bonding agent resolve whatever bonding issue the gum was meant to take care of. Can this also results in cracks on the wall(which were not present prior to plastering).
I'll appreciate contributions from the members. Thank you |

itzmoni: Please house , good evening...I was charged 301k for plastering of a 4 bedroom bungalow (only the inside of the building)...please is this a fair prize, the house is big but not very big..said he would shine the plaster with cement mixed with water to make it look as if it was screeded...he also budgeted 100 bags of cements.. Firstly I don't know your location but charging over 300k as labor to plaster the internal walls is excessive even if he's including the added service of shinning the walls according to him(from a kobokobo project perspective, abroad people might pay higher since they have more purchasing power than us locals). I have a quote of less than 450k(which I am hoping to negotiate to your own figure) for 1no 2-bed, 2no -1bed and 1-bed sitter all ensuite. This cost include fixing of the burglary, hand railings for the balconys and two different stairways, internal door posts for wooden doors in sango otta. I'll advice you ask around in your vicinity. Again, workmen based on how skilled they are bill higher than others. Some will work for you at a high cost and still deliver nonsense as finishing. |

Uchetoba: It use to be available before the result came out. Now that they have come up with this fantastic result let's see what it look like by tomorrow. How come they are unable to pay dividend despite having an eps of over 3naira last year and over 1naira in 2021. Instead they gave bonus issue for 2021 FY and nothing in 2022 FY where they even made more money. |
