IT WAS the first man-made object to venture into interstellar space and its mission to the planets in our solar system brought back new discoveries and information, including the first active volcanoes and lightning seen outside of earth. Its most famous moments came as it flew past Saturn and Jupiter sending back pictures of the mysterious giants' rings and moons. Now four years after it left the solar system to drift in deep space, Voyager 1 – the iconic space craft launched 40 years ago to explore the cosmos and carry a greeting from earth to aliens – has woken up. Its thrusters were revived by NASA at a mind-bending distance of 13 billion miles from Earth. After decades of operation, the attitude control thrusters that turn the spacecraft's antennae in the direction of earth have degraded, leading scientists to make a decision to fire up the four back-up thrusters, last used in 1980. The NASA team tested the thrusters on Tuesday and waited patiently as the test results travelled through space, taking 19 hours and 35 minutes to reach an antenna in Goldstone, California, part of NASA's Deep Space Network. On Friday the team of engineers at the space agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California discovered that they had managed to activate the back-ups onboard the spacecraft. "The Voyager flight team dug up decades-old data and examined the software that was coded in an outdated assembler language, to make sure we could safely test the thrusters," said Chris Jones, chief engineer at the laboratory. Scientists were relieved to discover that the thrusters worked “perfectly”, and just as effectively as the original ones. "With these thrusters that are still functional after 37 years without use, we will be able to extend the life of the Voyager 1 spacecraft by two to three years," said Suzanne Dodd, project manager for Voyager at the lab. The spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on September 5, 1977 and became the only man-made object to venture outside our solar system. It – along with sister spacecraft Voyage 2 – carries greetings in dozens of human languages to any form of life it may encounter. The greetings are stored on a 12-inch gold-plated copper phonograph record. Dubbed 'the Golden Record' it also contains 31 soundtracks including Peruvian panpipes, Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 and Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry, along with 115 images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on earth. Scientists still hear from the Voyager spacecraft daily, and expect to get data for about another decade. The plutonium-powered spaceships will eventually end their lives orbiting the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. As a result of Voyager 1’s thruster success the team are likely to do a similar test on the thrusters on Voyager 2, though the originals are not yet as depleted as Voyager 1's. Voyager 2 is also on course to enter interstellar space within the next few years. Voyager mission timeline August 20 and September 5, 1977 – Voyager 1 and 2 are launched into space from Cape Canaveral, Florida March 9, 1979 – Voyager 1 encounters Jupiter, two years before its twin November 9, 1980 – it surveys Saturn and its largest moon Titan, a year before Voyager 2 encounters several of Saturn's icy moons February 14, 1990 – at a distance of four billion miles, Voyager 1 takes the famous “pale blue dot” image, capturing Earth illuminated as a small speck in a sunbeam. February 17, 1998 – it becomes the farthest human-made object from earth in space December 16, 2004 – the spacecraft crosses the termination shock, the inner boundary of the heliosheath, a "bubble-like region of space" which extends far beyond the orbit of Pluto. August 25, 2012 – it cross the heliopause, becoming the first human-made object to enter interstellar space November 28, 2017 – Voyager 1’s thrusters successfully power up after 37 years |
right step in the right direction! there are many more out there that need rescuing.... please let's not keep quiet about this...IF YOU SEE ANYONE ABUSING ANY CHILD....SPEAK OUT! SAY SOMETHING!! |
Boltzman:this is the best situation... separate yourself immediately. talk with your husband about it though I guarantee its not gonna be easy but I think the end will be better as you will be free in conscience and liberated from sin and death. if you have all that wealth you mentioned I don't think losing your job now will kill you....cheers. |
pastors are struggling to retain their source of income by "defending " the tithe issue...of course they have to! but hold on...show me in the scriptures where tithe was from your income as per money. no one paid money as tithe. it was all farm or animals owned by the Jews. read the quote from the pastor's defence...the book of Matt... Jesus told them they didn't pay from the crops on their farms...money was never mentioned. |

.com came across a rather interesting video of a man of God who claims that paying and receiving tithe is a sin before God. In the long video which surfaced on social media, Chris Ojigbani who is the senior pastor of Covenant Singles and Married Ministries addressed topics such as; definition of tithe, types of tithe, why it is a sin to pay tithe among others. Speaking on why it is a sin to pay tithes, he backed his teachings up with several Bible passages saying that the holy book gave specific instructions on the group of people who should pay tithes. He said; “When God gave the commandment of tithe, He clearly stated who would pay the tithe; who would receive the tithe; and the purpose for receiving the tithe. He said the tithe would be paid by Israelites (except those from the tribe of Levi). He said that only the Levites were permitted to receive tithe and also said it was for their service in the tabernacle of the congregation. God actually gave them the tithe as an inheritance. For you to be eligible to pay tithe, you have to come from any of the tribes of Israel, apart from the tribe of Levi." Popular Chris Ojigbani In conclusion of his long teaching, Pastor Chris admonished all Christians never to pay their tithes again; else, they will incur the wrath of God. To men of God like him, he pleaded with them not to receive their member’s tithes again. In his words; “If you are a man of God, please do not receive tithe again so that you don’t incur the wrath of God. You can receive the regular offering, partnership offering, sacrificial offering, but not tithe.” *Copied * I hope to post something on TITHE soon for further enlightenment. |

golor:hmmmm.. I had the same situation during my service year and I'm happy I scaled through ...you can too but you have to be very tactical ...these girls don't get easily put off but be very firm and honest with them. avoid falling into one on one situation with them, and no matter how subtile they plant seeds of seductive words into you just pretend you don't hear it. politely but firmly decline any visits whether social or educational. teach the lessons in large groups and try to involve another teacher from the school along with you. don't go telling the teachers or principal that will lead them to intensify the seduction. given a month or two you will find the interest has waned significantly... or they'll have found someone else to seduce... be firm but smart. . |
mmluv4real:may the Lord heal her and provide support Amen |
UbanmeUdie:right, a living woman with one breast isn't attractive is a dead woman with two breasts attractive to you? I think you should just give an encouraging opinion rather than what you said. when you see a sufferer I'm sure you will have a rethink. |

Astronomers have captured images of a new visitor to our solar system - the first known comet or asteroid to visit us from another star. The Queen's University Belfast scientist, who is part of an international team studying the object, said it "sends a shiver down the spine" to look at it and to think of where it has come from. Professor Alan Fitzsimmons, from the School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen's, together with colleagues in the UK, USA and Chile, has been tracking it using powerful telescopes across the world. The fast-moving object, now named A/2017 U1, was initially spotted on October 18 by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawaii. The university said initial data implies it is a small rocky or icy object that may have been drifting through our galaxy for millions or even billions of years, before entering our solar system by chance. The object flew into the solar system from above, was close to the sun last month, and is now already on its way back out to the stars. Astronomers believe it was probably thrown out of another star system during a period of planet formation. The same process is thought to have unfolded 4.5 billion years ago around our own star, when Jupiter and Saturn formed. Despite suspecting such objects existed and looking out for them over past decades, scientists have never seen such an interstellar visitor until now. During rapid investigations, Prof. Fitzsimmons's team has now captured images of the unusual object, and obtained data on its possible chemical make-up. Prof. Fitzsimmons said: "By Wednesday this week it became almost certain this object was alien to our solar system. "We immediately started studying it that night with the William Herschel Telescope in the Canary Islands, then on Thursday night with the Very Large Telescope in Chile." He added: "It sends a shiver down the spine to look at this object and think it has come from another star." Queen's said more information is needed to pin down the exact details of where the visitor came from and what its properties are, but said the object should be visible in powerful telescopes for a few more weeks, allowing scientists to continue their investigations.
