spinna:The sad thing about Nigeria is the wicked never get punished. Only the innocent suffer. |
KillMNKnow:Indeed. See how Buhari and his people tried to kidnap Umaru Dikko back in 1984. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dikko_affair |
KillMNKnow:Don't be silly. Did you see the other names in the pictures in the post? Muhammadu Garba, Shaibu Haruna, Dankawu Madaki. All dealing in illicit drugs in different part of the country. This is a national problem, and the sooner we stop poking fun at each other - and decide to tackle our common enemy together - the better. |
CSTRR:First of all, I firmly think the artifacts should be put under the custody of the Oba. However, the Oba has no legal standing on the matter, and can only get what he is given by the Nigerian State: 1. FG routinely takes the money of people who have passed away, as do most governments around the world. 2. The Kingdom of Benin was annexed by the British Empire in 1897. In other words, it ceased to exist - as in, it passed away. 3. The artifacts legally belong - unfortunately - to the inheritor of British Empire - i.e. Nigeria. 4. The last Oba of Benin Kingdom- Ovonramwen - died in 1914, but his throne was never restored to him. His son, grandson and now great-grandson, are allowed to keep their title and status as traditional rulers in modern-day Nigeria, at the pleasure of the FG. (Note the intentional use of the word allowed). NOTE: they are called "Oba of Benin", but not "Oba of Benin Kingdom" because that kingdom no longer exists. One cannot be a kingdom unless sovereign. It's all unfortunate and I don't like it at all, but there you are. |
The artifacts belong to the sovereign in the land, which is currently the Federal Government. Yes, they were taken from Benin Kingdom, but that kingdom has long ceased to be sovereign, and so it falls to FG to own these artifacts. If Benin wants to collect, it should become its own kingdom again, independent from Nigeria. As for the state of Edo, it has no say in the matter. |
zanshi:Kiikiikiikiii... I laugh in Swahili. Did somebody put Nigerian Gov't and "fast track" in the same sentence? I'm still waiting for Ajaokuta. LWKMD ![]() |
Yankee101:This old yarn? Please provide evidence for what you're saying. I've been hearing it, but nobody shows solid evidence. In 2006, OBJ (from South) shutdown Ibeto Cement. Why? The import license clearly stated they should also manufacture, however Ibeto was allegedly merely re-bagging cement. I say allegedly, because I wasn't there. Yar’Adua (from North) caused the plant to be reopened. All I've heard since is that Ibeto's shipment from overseas has repeatedly been halted. Tell me, if you manufacture, why will you have bulk cement on ships inbound? If indeed there is a policy to "keep the Igbo man down", is the solution complaining, or learning to play the game? The Igbo men who own over 60% of car industry (importing and manufacturing), wire-making industry, plastic industry, airlines, mass transport, financial industry, real estate in Abuja, etc... is somebody keeping them down too? Abi we should label them monopolists too for cornering their various industries? If Igbos were serious, none of us would use Dangote cement in our projects, if indeed Ibeto is being unfairly targetted. |
Yankee101:That's a very funny allegation, coming from citizens who bribe officials to speed up their driver's license and passport applications. We also give a little something for the boys in black. We also dash to the omoniles and LGA chairmen so our building project won't be hampered. Even to supply chairs to a government parastatal, you must share your proceeds with the oga in charge, else you don't get the contract. I don't see why we should complain that the big boys also do the same to see their projects through. |
Another article to sow FUD (fear uncertainty doubt). This refinery is a game changer, not just for Nigeria, but indeed for Africans. Foreign companies (and I'm looking at you France) who have a stake in selling refined products to us have been on a steady campaign of discrediting this gargantuan project. Nobody in the West should be talking crap about bailout, since their governments have repeatedly bailed out their industries, and actively provide subsidies/tax breaks to their own companies to stave off insolvency. We've been waiting for years now, witnessing the push back, but we're seeing steady progress. Didn't the fertilizer section take off last month? People saying: "taking Chukwuemeka money to enrich Haruna... what are Obi Cubana's people doing with all their money this weekend?" Naturally, the reply would be that Dangote was granted a monopoly... really? Why didn't they apply during OBJ and GEJ time for license, especially when Deziani was petroleum minister for 5years? This refinery didn't start during PMB's time you know. This is a huge project - even me with my small small real estate have encountered delays and various issues - but we press on. When this comes on stream, the trajectory of this country will continue to change for the better. |
zangaozanga:All the people employed to arrange the place, make flyers, cook food, serve. It provides employment. All the rental equiment - from tent, chairs, even nylon bags... people will be paid to make these available. That said, my preference would be to build a top-notch memorial school in her honour, that's free or subsidized. There's more than enough money contributed to make this happen. Use half to build it, invest the other half in a trust fund to pay for ongoing costs... |
But to use this money to build and equip schools for the living is too hard. To start real industries for the youths? It is well. Na we dey do ourselves. |
LoveTalk:Security makes a woman feel safe and loved. Money provides that security. That said, it has to be balanced: too many men with money end up neglecting their ladies; after all it's the headstrong determination and concentration that made the man successful in the first place. Personally, I feel the three critical ingredients for a healthy relationship are mutual affection, respect for each other, and self-respect for oneself. Everything else flows from that. Most problems in relationship comes from the lack of affection, and from the lack of respect: - money, in the right amount - not too much, and not too little - reduces stress. Without affection and respect, it can turn to a weapon. - differences in culture, religion, ideology can be accommodated as long as affection and respect is there. - even the notion of cheating will not come up if there's affection and respect. |
Bigredmachine:Amen!!!! |
Dmavin: Bigredmachine:True true... but no forget say na men dey spray all this money. God dey favour men na... ![]() But where people dey see this kind moni? Chai! Too much |
It's not the platforms that are the problem... (some) oyinbo people are always thinking these things... it comes out once in a while, either as an outburst online, or in person... All I'm hearing is: "don't say what you're thinking, even if you think the guy is a monkey". How does that solve anything? |
Fahdiga:Add USA to your list please: A power cut leads to looting. Peaceful protest against police brutality descends into looting. It affects all nations (except Japan, perhaps) |
and I'm sure the contract to build this app was free and fare, without any chopping abi? If EFCC was serious 1/2 the properties in Abuja should be seized. As for me, I'm not reporting anything. Awon were oshi ![]() Give me an app to report police and use AI to match their face to force ID as they are harrassing and killing people. |
Lekki: the glorified slum. We need to start thinking of cities holistically, not just making islands of wealthy neighborhoods - yet you can't drive outside when it rains. If you live at sea level, and you put trash in your drains, well flood is the natural result. . But seriously, Lekki residents can skip one night at the club to contribute and create better drainage. Lastly, Buhari is not the person that gets your council, LGA, and state taxes. It's not FG that does town planning, drainage planning. FG does not issue CofO, nor does it collect land use tax, nor does it approve building designs. Please send your bottle to all those people - including omonile - that you paid these taxes too. |
Please notice that he was attended to and swiftly carried to hospital where he likely survived. That is Ghana In this Nigeria, they would have waited till he fell and had a concussion. Then there'd be 30 minutes of shouting an confusion before somebody calls ambulance. Then the ambulance will have to go and buy fuel, deal with traffic, and won't have any basic equipment on board. The hospital will first reject him, and they may have to go to several hospitals to find one that will accept him. Even then, there's no light, nor oxygen, and our critical staff won't be on seat. By the time he's admitted, our people will pronounce him dead. SMH for Naija. |
omoadeleye:Your head dey dere... and of course the US govt are fully aware. We will later find out 30 years from now after documents are declassified. |
So in this Nigeria, people expect every eligible bachelor to be living in a mansion abi? Why don't women also look at how to build their wealth together, instead of looking at husband as a financial supporter? Afterall she too went to school and university - why do so many people still have the mentality that women need men to take care of them? I was even thinking I would see a mess. The place is organized and neat, which tells you a lot about the character of the person. I'm not a woman - so I could be wrong - but if I were, I would prefer a person who has a good heart, and is clean and neat. Fancy house and nice cars don't mean a thing if your married life is a living hell. |
Na wao... two new babies will be born into suffering... and the cycle continues. Hope it's not the dad sha... the set up looks mighty suspicious... a mysterious "16 -year old boy" managed to bang two sisters.... and dad is on the same bed with his daughters in that shack... ![]() If I was the reporter (or police), I'll come back in a few months for dna testing... just sayin |
BigDawsNet:Catholic was started by rebels against the Roman Empire and includes a lot of Anglican was started much later by an English king who didn't like the idea of having a Pope in far off Rome telling him what he can do (rumor has it he wanted to divorce his wife - which the Roman Catholic church disallowed). A lot less oils, less rituals. You can read the bible yourself, go to church once a week at a very reasonable 10am, and songs are mostly contemporary English from the mid to late 1800s, often accompanied by and organ. Both are way more dignified than these modern pentacostal and envangelical churches where there's far more shouting and dancing than is necessary to prove your point that you're a Christian. For me, it seems the more of a nuisance you are on a Wednesday night, the closer to God you become. Songs tend to be Nigerian in origin, with a nice beat, though the experience is marred by the loud sounds of humble bragging, incessant begging for undeserved favor, and the incomprehensible languages being invented on the spot. And don't get me started on those who wear all white, walking down the street disturbing the peace. ![]() |
Let me come and laugh small... as if no be naija we dey. ![]() |
He was against terrorism in Nigeria. You realize that the terrorists are now in power... so the message is consistent. |
Learn how to program. It's relatively easy to get a job as a computer or embedded programmer in the US once you have the skills. Leave all that nursing, care giving, hair styling, designing stuff alone. If you're serious, get an arduino board and cheap laptop, learn to program. Lots of resources online. From what I hear, there is not as much emphasis on where you studied, as is on what you know. And the pay is awesome. |
So what I'm hearing is: "men, work hard, get money, get married, then spend all your money on maintaning a wife, with children" ![]() Abegi... this country has enough children. Men, use your money to travel abroad, treat yourself to a spa in Asia, spend a week in the Bahamas, chill out in our Lagos resorts. With no dependents, you can save up enough to enjoy this world, instead of spending your every waking hour being a walking wallet. |
Powerful people, for sure, but a waste of time. They should consult with their masters - the true owners of Nigeria - before coming to tell us any agreement. |
Did they get approval from their masters? I mean the caliphate? If a meeting has only southern governors, they can decide what they want, but the true owners of Nigeria will make the final decision. Please argue with your phone. |
Ibom amaka! ![]() In spite of FG, many states are doing the best they can. |
Only a few months? Na wao... only those who have money can save it. Where do you see 1k here and there to save in this buhari era? |
How can Islam frown on mannequins - something that didn't exist when Islam was being developed... ![]() But if Kano Hisbah is looking for inspiration, here are some examples from Jeddah and Dubai
