Nigeria simply does not have any foreign exchange. Government can't meet up with its foreign exchange obligations. It shows how the economy has degenerated. I doubt if any foreign investor would be willing to bet on Nigeria. Foreign investors invest in a country when they are sure of repatriating their profits to their home countries. We are just talking of airlines. If companies like MTN tells you how much of their funds are waiting to be repatriated, you will know that Nigeria is no more investment friendly. Nigeria may not witness inflow of foreign investors in the foreseeable future. |
Nuliberry:Yes, my wife may likely relocate with the kids. They were all born abroad. But for the time being, I will prefer to remain here. I still have my aged parents that needs my attention. I will agree to my wife's relocation because of her intention to enroll for a nursing program. She has been pushing for that for long and it seems to have clicked for her. |
So sad, to even get PTA now is a problem There is no FX any where. Foreign investors are offloading their portfolios at a record level to avoid further looses in their portfolio investment. Very soon, most banks wont have FX to finance import and issue letters of credit. If you have any means of earning foreign currency or doing any job that would guarantee you payment in FX, you are lucky. |
asahnwaKC:Very common in Anambra. You will see well endowed and educated young lady getting married to one uneducated and ugly importer, self conscious of his limited education and physical appearance, who wouldn't waste time to unleash his low self-esteem - induced - anger on the poor lady on any slightest provocation. |
Sorry that the woman died. I am sure it was because of money and wealth that the woman remained in that abusive marriage till the very end. It's very common in my place. You will see women with kids, going through physical and emotional abuse from their spouses; yet remained put because of what they will loose if they go back to their father's house. |
Why are you people cursing and abusing the politicians?? At the end, you all will still line up and queue to vote another set of idiots to power and come online to start abusing them. Another set of thieves are gathering and as usual, Nigerians and nairalanders have started abusing themselves, cursing one another that differs from their own political affiliation. Later, you will come back behind keyboards to insult those idiots that you worked hard to elect, hating people because of your preferred candidate. Be wise!! |
Okonandmary:Some are there as contracted security personnel facing the fans and backing the pitch. I did that security job in Aberdeen. Any time the city club had home games, we would apply to work as security guards, standing round the perimeter pitch, facing the whites spectators and backing the actions going on in the field. We could only turn to the pitch on hearing the shouts of goal being scored. At the end, we would stay back to clear the stadium of plastic bottles, trash and waste. It used to be a rewarding job then as a student. |
jesmond3945:Very apt. Nigerians and this their mentality of my "unborn kids". What of your self and your mental health?? That's why we loot and steal with impunity all because of our so called kids and unborn kids to give them a better life. My father did the best he could and left the stage for me. I am doing well for myself. I can't sacrifice my mental health and peace of mind because I want to provide the best for my kids. When they grow up, they face the challenges and work their way out. |
Askay:You won't go far with this type of writing. It is not about grammar; it is about the useless abbreviations and short cuts. It does no good to your communication skills. Employers and businesses values people with great communication and writing skills. The more you read, the better your written communications gets. Nobody is perfect. We all learn. I am not a perfect writer; neither do I claim to be one. All the best. |
HandsomeGuyman:I heard he is going to retire to Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic. Daura is no more safe. |
Good. This is the role that best fits him. Not going back to soil his name in the mucky waters of Nigerian politics. Imagine if APC had succeeded in getting him to contest the primaries and eventually looses to Tinubu. The embarrassment would have been huge and his image degraded. He dodged a bullet with that bait. |
SensualMan1:You are just too shallow. Empty barrel. You are the reason why Peter Obi have been crying out, begging his supporters to mind their language. Do you think that you alone and your likes would be able to make Peter Obi the president? You guys are demarketing the man big time. Just check and read what you typed there. |
He looked like a LAWMA waste disposal man in the first picture while he looks like a medical intern in the second picture ![]() |
There is nothing wrong with an Igbo man canvassing support for Tinubu. There are lots of Yorubas here in nairaland and my professional WhatsApp group rooting for Peter Obi. People should be allowed to make their choices even when it goes against the herd mentality of their Kith and kin. |
See how the brain box of the robot was exposed. A good enemy gunner will aim at that unprotected brain box and pieces it. The robot will just come to a halt. |
Liz Truss will definitely win the conservative ticket to become the prime minister. The British political establishment is certainly not ready for a non white Caucasian prime minister. Sunak is a sound guy but the odds seems stacked against him. |
Antoeni:I agree with you on this one. I have experienced that as well. So unfortunate. I dont want to sound tribalistic, but if you are non-yoruba and commits a traffic offence, the way LASTMA will deal with you ehh. It is not that they dont arrest Yorubas, they do, especially if you are a working class with nice ride. What I have noticed is that, if you cannot communicate well with them in Yoruba, especially those elderly LASTMA people with tribal marks, your own don finish. Then the Muslim domination of the rank and file of LASMA. Once you are a typical Yoruba muslim guy and flow well with them, you are sure of going free with little penalty, else na for Oshodi, their head office, you go see your car and bail it with N50k upwards with all the stress. They picked me one time at Falomo, Ikoyi as I was about to drop one guy that joined me from mainland. They drove my car to their Sura office in Island. I had to pay N20K to pick it up. |
My sympathy. Looking for job in Nigeria now is one of the most difficult things to do. My brother, you didn't fail. It is just that you did not meet the competitive cut off point - the reason behind the name, " scholastic aptitude test". You are competing with the next person writing the same exam and one mark could make all the difference. Just keep practicing with more materials and time your self. Get proficient with various short cuts of getting fractions, graphical interpretations and percentages solved. Practice with SHL and let your basic maths skills be top notch. All the best. Don't loose focus. |
Be steadfast and diligent in your duty. Your destiny helper is in that church. People are watching. I have been in a bank where a cleaner was elevated to an office assistant and later elevated to a management trainee. A security guy in my church, a Catholic church as well, was taken by one member of the CMO and trained him through his master's degree in LASU. The guy later got partially funded PhD scholarship in Sweden. We rise from our humble beginnings. People are watching. Remain focus. |
Fasindo:Very bad mentality. Typical Nigerian you are. See your wack reasoning?? You better drop this perceptions and attitudes towards Nigerians living and earning legitimate incomes abroad. There is dignity in labour abroad. |
plusfield:Just save your self the stress of explaining to people that would never understand. I clearly understood your point having lived in UK. It's not about defending Ekweremadu as some people saw in your post. It's about the typical British subtle racism. If the referenced doctor was a typical English doctor, there wouldn't have been any indictment. But the fact that the doctor is from the same country as the main defendant, the jury is already put on enquiry of likely collution between Ekweremadu and the doctor |
Tinubu Dioceses ![]() The Pope must hear this |
Nigerian police is just funny. Do they even have records and facial recognition capabilities? How do they know the escapees? Is there any intelligence link between them and the Nigerian correctional services? Funny people. |
Soludo! I hope the hype on this guy is real. I am not feeling the guy at all. I went to Anambra state the other time and wasn't impress about the decrepit state of Onitsha. Bad roads every where, from housing gate junction to Old and New market roads and adjoining streets. Onitsha is in a mess. He should build the African Dubai he promised us. |
This thread brought some nostalgic feeling, remembering my bustling and lively Onitsha of the 80s. For those that lived around GRA, Holy Trinity, Old and New Market roads and adjoining streets close to Holy Trinity, pipe borne water was a regular thing, with its distinct taste because of Nkisi waterworks that pumps water to homes. Those of us that schooled in any of the primary schools around Holy Trinity will attest to regular pipe borne water from their school taps, getting home, we usually use hose pipe to fill up our tanks. Nigeria is degenerating instead of progressing but the stupid youths will be here hauling insults to themselves on top politicians that do not care about their future. |
Honestly, doing any foreign denominated transaction in Nigeria is becoming difficult. Even for students to pay for admission application fee is no more possible. If you do not have someone or a family friend that you could beg to help you pay and you reimburse the person later in Naira or however he/she wants it, you are on your own. All my foreign transactions have been paid by friends and families abroad, of which i reimburse them later. Our country is finished. We still do not know the importance of value system in a society. Once your value system and trust have been eroded, even your best friend will abandon you. I wont be surprise if in the coming years, SWIFT stops honoring LCs from Nigerian banks. One of my clients is into importation and does lots of LCs. The foreign partners always insists that the confirming bank on any LC must be from US or EU, else they are not dealing. Even Nigerian banks with presence in UK are not acceptable by some foreign companies as a legitimate confirming bank for LCs purpose. It shows the depth our moral decadence had degenerated and the fraud-infested Nigeria's business environment |
In as much as this pay increase is good, most Professors in Nigerian universities are too laid back- They are hardly academic and research-minded. Some got their professorship position through ass-licking, which I dont blame them fo,r as some VCs see themselves as mini gods and dish out professorship positions to their cronies. Some of them will collect both local and international research grants and use it to by SUVs, build houses and shopping malls and commission a Phd student to produce a sub-standard journal or research. |
NwaIdeato:Then, you people should be ashamed of yourself. It shows the liberal nature of Western Nigeria. Tinubu would not pull this kind of crowd because of the herd mentality endemic in SE. I have been saying it, SE should not be antagonistic towards other Nigerians. This is one of the reason why it is difficult for an SE person to rise to power in Nigeria. Peter Obi is becoming the closest we have seen in decades but you people are demarketing him badly by your attitude and unwarranted attacks on other people. Obi had to cry out to warn people that are not civil with their support of him. Make no mistake about it, Obi remains the best candidate among the three candidates. |
Girl child poverty is the worst. I pity young girls from very poor background. They are too vulnerable. I see them every where on the streets. |
Timtol:This is fine |
Cousin9999:The reasons you mentioned here are the more reasons that made me to stay put in this country. The country is bad but there are certain things you cannot get abroad. However, my wife is pushing seriously for this "japa" for her and the kids and I have started to consider her demand. I dont intend to go with them as my job is here in Nigeria. I am working towards their "japa" while I remain put here to "enjoy" the benefits that comes with being in ones country. Though, I will have to visit my family once or twice in a year. |
The way maids are handled in this country ehh? See how the couple wasted the life of this poor girl. I am sure she must have been complaining that she was not feeling fine but her wicked madam won't hear her plea. I hate madam's with this kind of wickedness, especially, the nursing ones with babies or toddlers. Their own wickedness and harshness is out of this world. |
