I have been saying this for a while. Nigerian youths have been mentally oppressed from secondary school up to NYSC. They are mentally conditioned to obey without questioning authority. No form of critical thinking is allowed. Hence, why they accept anything the Government does to them. Nigerian youths don't even know their rights as citizens of this country. This sad state of affairs will not change anytime soon.

I will say this once, I cannot verify the source of income of most of these "actresses". Nollywood doesn't pay well for them to have the lifestyle they are living. I always laugh when people in this forum talk about the desirability of Nigerian women abroad. I have lived in Europe for a decade and I can tell you that Nigerian women aren't popping like that. The problem that a lot of Nigerian women in the west have is that they refuse to drop their entitlement mentality in Nigeria. You cannot decide to live in the west and expect men to do all the chasing.You cannot be living abroad and expect men to take care of your bills. Not in a cosmopolitan society. Not in a society where bills are split 50/50. You live in Europe where you are a minority and you still act like you are in your father's land? How? Even within the African community, you have a problem because of that materialistic mindset. It's only the ones that were born and bred there that are slightly different as they grew up in that environment. The ones that came as students/job seekers still retain that mindset.

Yes, poverty of the mind is a big problem in Nigeria especially here on Nairaland. Poverty of the mind is the state of the mind that accepts mediocrity, mental and physical slavery. Let's not talk about the travel section. "What are you doing abroad"? "Stay here and make your millions". Do you think that everyone migrates abroad for financial reasons? People migrate to societies where they feel that their skills will be appreciated. They are migrating because they want to live in a society where simple things such as 24 hours electricity work. Where internet connection is fast and effective. Where health care is affordable for all and not just the privileged. Most Nigerians can't understand this because they are used to a society that is not working.

I have seen people in this forum advice those who aren't happy with their jobs to stay in the said job because "others are willing to earning that salary." That's why many employers exploit people. They know that you don't know your rights and will accept rubbish.

All I am saying is that Nigerians need to start looking at things from a long-term perspective as opposed to a short-term one. The reason why there are so many Yahoo boys and run girls is because a lot of young people are looking at short term ways to make money. Women don't want to build a relationship/marriage with a man. They want a ready made product. They don't know how that "ready made product" made his money. Guys want to "blow" immediately without exercising patience. We need to do better as a country.

Of course he doesn't have skills. The average Nigerian just goes to school to earn his/her degree and assume that a juicy job is waiting for them once they graduate. They refuse to develop themselves and get skills that will make them indispensable. Most Nigerians only look at the short term benefits. They don't consider the long-term goals/objectives. Their own is to "make money as soon as possible, get married and have a big boy/big girl lifestyle". That's why runs girls and g-boys are so rampant in society today.

OP, please ignore the comments here. You have to understand that most Nigerians suffer from poverty of the mind. They believe that as long as the salary is good they can lose their dignity at the workplace just to earn that money. They don't understand what it's like to do something that doesn't bring you joy or peace of mind. The most success people you see today are people who focused on their strengths and followed their passion. I'm not surprised at this topic. People are intimidated by others who are as smart/smarter than they are. Insecure people (whether male/female) like those who are not as "smart" as they are so that they can manipulate/control them at will. Female smarty pants are intimidated by men who can hold a conversation on their own, cook for themselves, can do their own house chores and exposed. They feel that the man will not appreciate them.
