Yes, we Southerners are politically naive and lack foresight. If Yorubas, Igbos, Niger Deltans and middle beltans come together, all this nonsense that Fulanis are doing will come to an end. The core North have been playing everyone for decades and we still haven't wisened up despite our vaunted education.

If you want to know what I am talking about, look no further than what has happened since Bubu was elected in 2015. Herdsmen and indigenous communities in the middle belt such as Benue, Plateau and Taraba have been killing each other. What did everybody else do about? Nothing. As far as the south was concerned, it's a Northern problem that should be settled amongst "brothers". Well, this "Northern problem" has slowly evolved to something else.

When the army sent troops to invade the Southeast in an operation called "python dance", no one cared about what happened to them. They saw Igbos as a nuisance that needs to be dealt with. Nnamdi Kanu and his disciples didn't help matters. If they had foresight, they would have sought alliances with other aggrieved ethnic groups. However, they alienated everyone with their utterances. They need to understand that you need the South South as an equal partner. They have the resources, ammunitions and ports. They need to patch up any differences they have with Yorubas as they have the manpower and resources to match the North.

When Fulanis invaded the Southwest and started killing the natives, others kept quiet. They saw it as a "family squabble" between Yorubas and Northerners. This is not the case.

Now the President has threatened genocide on a whole tribe and everybody else is mute. In a sane society, he would have been impeached. People would be out on the streets demanding for his resignation.

I am not saying that we all have to like one another (that's not going to happen) but the only solution to Nigeria's problem is when the whole South and middle belt come together and force these people to come to the negotiating table. Otherwise, talks of Biafria, Oduduwa or any other republic is a waste of time. Nobody can do it on their own.

P.S. I am not calling for any violent breakup. We need restructuring. Complete decentralization of the country. The only people benefitting from the current setup are the elites which cuts across tribes. The masses will suffer regardless.

For the life of me, I will never understand the obsession with marriage in this part of the world. There are many reasons why "decent people" are still single. The most crucial is the economy. People say that there's more to life than money. Try getting pampas for your kids, then you will understand. Try getting a decent apartment with low salary then you will understand. Another reason why decent people are still single is the societal expectation that a man must cover all the family's expenses. "Your money is our money and my money is mine alone". You see that statement? That statement has sent many men to their untimely graves.

Another reason why decent people are single is because they want to. Not everyone wants to get married. Majority do obviously but not all. You also have to understand, the rugged nature of this country is so great that most people don't understand the concept of love. Many people have being programmed to have a survival instinct which means that issues such as love and character are out of the door. What matters is what the respective gender can offer. Many women see marriage as a means of escaping poverty while a lot of men believe that the only thing women respect is money and they feel that they can get a woman's love with money. Tell me why there wouldn't be so many single people with that kind of mindset?

Bruh, look it up. The Baltic states are doing much better than Russia. Estonia's GDP per capital alone is 4 times that of Russia. Just go on Google and other reliable sources.

It's more prosperous than MOST of the 15 countries that broke out not all. As I said previously, the Baltic states are doing better than the rest of the former Soviet Union. Otherwise, I get your point. Breakup should ideally be a last option. The issue is that our differences outweighs our similarities. We don't have much in common that makes us "Nigerians".

About 15 countries if I am not mistaken. Yes, not all of them are doing well but that is besides the point. The point is that a peaceful separation can lead to the development of SOME countries. Not all. What we have atm is not sustainable. Look at Yugoslavia. After a nasty breakup, some of the countries that were part of it became very successful (Slovenia & Croatia). While some are doing okay (Serbia).

What are you talking about? The Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) are doing better than the rest of the former Soviet Union. They are members of the EU. Estonia is known for it's I.T. Their passports are among the best in the world. Please do some research. Quite a few countries that have separated are better off than they were previously.

Gerrard, I visited South Korea two years ago for a conference. That country is more advanced than most European countries! Nigeria is a 4th world country compared to South Korea! Why are lots surprised? This has been going on for decades. I will highlight the problem as follows:

1. We have a lax immigration system that allows any tom, dick and harry to get into the country. A lot of these foreigners do not have legal documents to be in the country but alas, they bribed our immigration officials to let them have their way.

2. Nigeria does not have any strong labour laws. We have the Labour Act that is not enforced. As a result of this, these foreigner have taken advantage of that loophole to treat our their staff with impunity.

3. These guys have seen how we treat each other and have acted on instinct. If Nigerians treated each other with dignity, would these jokers treat us like trash in our own country?

4. Inferiority complex. Most Nigerians suffer from inferiority complex. They see any non-black person as "white", "oyinbo". Until we get rid of this mindset, we will continue to be slaves in our own country.

5. Lastly, another problem is corruption. Nigeria is a country where you can get away with murder once you have a lot of money. They have observed that you can bribe the police and soldiers to do your bidding. We are talking about a country where soldiers are holding the personal handbags of female civilians because of money!

Solve the aforementioned problems and these guys will be forced to respect themselves.

People date and make friends with those they grew up with. It is difficult for someone who went to Lekki British International School to meet someone who went to Oshodi Grammar School. Not possible.

Also, differences in lifestyles means that such relationships cannot work. A poor individual will feel intimidated by the lifestyle of their rich partner. The rich individual would feel irritated by the mentality of the poor spouse.

In this part of the world, when you marry someone, you marry their family. This is usually a recipe for disaster simply due to the lifestyle differences between the parties.

In this very forum, many people complain that rich people, especially rich girls, are pompous, not submissive and do rely heavily on their parents. Why then do you want to marry them? Marry your level while they marry guys who know where they are coming from.

They should be focusing on internships for students so that they will have sufficient work experience that will prop up their CV! Universities need career advise centers just like it's done in developed countries. These centers will guide potential graduates towards making wise career decisions! They should be focusing on improving research facilities in every campus in the country. All these idiots think about is new ways to make money off struggling students who cannot afford tuition fees.
