Landing gist

We were on our way to get our sin when our son decided he wanted to go back the way we came, like flash the boy had gone under the ropes and took off running in a restricted area. Hubby had to drop all luggage and chase after him with several immigration officers rushing out in full attack mode when they saw a 6ft black man running only to see the tiny boy he was chasing and they started laffing. The boy was really dodging oyinbo trying to catch him laffing and looking back to make sure his pursuers were not near. Eventually after like 200metres he was caught by hubby who normally would have given him two hot ones on his bum to reset his brain, now humbly telling him you made daddy run after you. I think at that point the halleluyah chorus went off in my boys head, like really so im now in canada and untouchable( hes just two by the way). He was just smiling feeling cool.

The bolded cracked me up.....your son is my Lo's double ganga lol. I can definitely picture him doing the same thing. LMAO at immigration officers rushing out in full attack. May canny favour you and yours and I'm sure your soon to birth baby is already praying and blessing mummy and daddy for taking him/her to Canada for his/her grand arrival. Safe delivery dear and thanks for sharing. Landing gist brings life back to the thread

Iftar Kareem to my Muslim brothers and sisters, the curious me wants to ask this question since we're in the month of Ramadan grin
1. How many hours do you guys fast for over there....what time you normally take sahur and also iftar?
2. Are there islamcschools for the kids?
3. Are there nearby mosques (in residential areas) for tahajjud, taraweeh and tafsir?

@Nonyeloooom, You'd have to go to yaba in Lagos to process your waec but if you can't you can contact @Avidreader or @adeboye11 they assist in processing your waec to WES. You can check those people out on the Canada express entry thread

Hello everyone, I really didn't want to ask a question that had been answered but I don't understand something on the ices website, are we to also submit WAEC?

No Ma/Sir, WAEC result is not required with ICES.

Please I’m in the process of getting my PR, and I would like to get a visitors visa for my mom, so she can go with us when leaving.

Please can someone direct me to a step by step process. Is there a link?

What documents are required from her as a pensioner..:: and have in mind that we will be applying from Nigeria.

Also the application will be online and not paper. Thank u

Hi, just as @maternal as said you need to be a PR (landed in canada) before you can invite your mum. Another option is for your mum to apply for a tourist visa showing evidence that she'll be sponsoring herself this way you can land together once her visa is granted.

You can check this link for more details https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5256-applying-visitor-visa-temporary-resident-visa.html

Oh my that was such a read guys....had to catchup on over 50 pages and of course the more I read the more the pages increases shocked, somebody cannot even leave you guys for a while ahn ahn.

Was i tempted to jump to the current page OH YES I WAS grin but I knew every page comes with something fresh I can learn from and add to my bookmark, it took me a couple of days but yes it was worth it.

To my dear seniors that got the GOLDEN MAIL....you can't imagine how my deep silent prayers for you guys and I'm glad you didn't disappoint with your script From @Tojued to @Ramj, @Jesusbaby and others forgive me i can't recall all and of course our very own prof raphrulz I got to the page of your script two days ago around 2am and my eyes were already shutting down. I immediately scroll through just to have an idea of what I was getting into lol, when I saw the long gist I just dropped my phone and went to bed so I could read with my eyes wide open and enjoy the read. You didn't disappoint at all because you murdered every part of the journey with enough details. Thanks alot prof, I'm sure most of us learnt a thing or two from your very detailed script.....I think @raphrulz, @tojued @Ramj and other seniors that just got PPR should book a flight together. Let's have our first set of nairalanders land together and give us some juicy landing gist on the sister thread.

I'm very happy for you all, May your new home favour you and may the doors of favour and success welcome you as you land.

The name sounds familiar but my memory is sketchy. when I was a kid, my cousin would buy me a meal that seems to look like what you have in that pic... I think she said it was made from rice or wheat, but we ate it without soups, was a pancake of some sort, only tastier.. It was commonly sold around Barnawa area of Kaduna. Since then I havent had or seen one, I wonder if its waina.

Yes, it is exactly what you just described. It is mostly sold around Barnawa and most parts of Kaduna, I'd say its very common in the North though I've come across some sellers in Lagos too but mostly where Hausas are populated. I remember as kids we use to dip tge waina/masa in sugar then eat as snacks, it tastes even better. grin

There are alot of recipes and pictures of it on Google so you can check and confirm if its the same as what you had as a kid.

Please what is a waina maker? I am just curious, never heard of it. As for the transformer, just make sure its output voltage and frequency matches your Waina makers input.

Waina maker is commercially sold as a "vitumbua maker", It is a non stick electrical appliance use to fry vitumbua also known as waina or masa in the Northern part of Nigeria.

"Waina" or "Masa" is a popular delicacy amongst the Hausas. The dish is basically made from a slightly fermented rice meal and it is similar to a pan fried rice cake which is paired with pumpkin or groundnut soup. And of course it is highly nutritious.

Below is a picture of the vitumbua maker a.k.a waina maker.

So sorry for the distraction...*runs away* grin

For those of you who are considering buying a step down transformer to use with their (naija) appliances when you land, you may want to read this before you invest your money into one.

You just read my mind on this because I have been thinking of asking about travelling with my precious electrical wanna maker and Kenwood mixer but ive been very busy lately to come online to ask. Then I decided to search for a step down adaptor/transformer and also watched a YouTube video where someone one was sent a 220v appliance instead of a 110v one which was compatible with his countries voltage, but then I still wanted to clarify if anyone has successfully used the adaptor over there with Nigerian appliances. My waina maker can't be left here in naija oooo

Also, I keep hearing conflicting stories about getting a G license in Ontario. Do i need to get the FRSC letter or does my license suffice or do I need an international one in addition?

I evaluated my msc using ICES.
I started the process October 24. My transcript was ready the next day (ABU, Zaria things) and dispatched October 26. It was eventually delivered November 13 due to the canadian post strike.

January 23rd, my profile changed to completed and I got a message from UPS that it would be delivered the next day to the canadian address I provided.

So its 10 weeks from start to completion, no verifications needed.

Hi @happyme31, please can i pm you concerning ABU Zaria and ICES?. TIA

Good morning great people. Pls which of these food items is frowned at or may not make it through the border if carried as checked in luggage:
Dry fish, frozen palm oil, Milo, milk, egusi, knorr cubes, stock fish, ogbono, indomie noodles, tomato paste, dry vegetables, detergents? Flying Ethiopian air.

I know people mostly cargo these items without problems. But I decided to utilize my luggage allowance since we're total of 7 travellers.

Thank you.

To the microbiology guy/lady. You did not mention anything about your work experience. A degree in Microbiology opens doors to a lot of other professions like the ones you listed. Therefore, your work experience plus your qualification will determine the sort of bridging program to apply for.

Hi @salford1, I've not had much experience in the laboratory as a microbiologist apart from the experience I got during my 6 months SIWES training out of school when I was in 300L. The work experiences I've had over the years are;
1. Program Assistant in an NGO (maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS related)and;
2. Currently a data analyst at a maternal and child health hospital. That being said, my plan is to go back in line with my course of study my focus being on food safety/quality assurance and i've actully thought going back to school to take some courses will do the trick.

The reason why I brought up the question was because I've always been told that Microbiology isn't a professional course even when my friends and I discuss about the inability to secure a job at a hospital as a microbiologist as a medical laboratory scientists is given preference over us and wanted to know if same applies over there.

I wouldn't also mind taking some courses to fit back into the NGO world ( WHO,UNDP and the likes) as it was such a breeze working with those innocent mothers and children. And please don't judge me because I asked about fitting in as a microbiologist and now diverted to working in an NGO grin I'm just keeping my options open here.

And thanks to @vole and @winterpeg for chipping in

I've read a lot of views and ways to dive into the system from graduates of Accounting, finance, Mbbs, Nursung and the likes when one finally arrives in, either through bridging programs or taking some courses but we've had no information from Microbiology graduates over there or does it mean we'll have to change career path when we finally arrive. Please, if there are any Microbiologist in this thread or anyone who knows someone in that field should kindly speak up and advise on ways to integrate. As there are branches in this field such as quality control/assurance, industrial, environmental, food, virology just to name a few which means there should be a lot of opportunities out there but I can't seem to get my hands on the right information on how to fit in or bridging programs to go for. There ain't much info on Google either so getting an insight from someone already in the system will be much appreciated.

Hi @kemkem40, please refer to page 1 of this thread for every little details needed for this journey from the CRS tool to IELTS materials down to necessary documents.Trust me you'll be glad you did. When youve done that you can come back and ask about information you deem unclear as there are a lot of seniors here always willing to help.

You can also mention @boco2126 and @wasseynewest for Ryan and liz materials respectively for IELTS but that shouldn't stop you from checking materials from page 1 to conclude which one works best for you.

It shall end in praise.
